Sony Vaio Pro 13
1 Star Review   By Jay2 on Adorama - Oct 9, 2013

CONS: The first one I bought I owned for a month before one day it just never turned on again, I returned it and received a new one and here are the issues ive had with both: 1.) constantly shuts down on its own due to DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION--I had this issue with both sony vaio 13 laptops and have learned its a hardware issue that ill have to send in for repair, which I have no time to do so I just have to put up with it shutting down on me 6-7 times a day 2.) touch screen is ok and not always responsive and somewhat jerky or overly sensitive 3.) wireless is TERRIBLE. sitting in places where everyone else is able to connect im constantly left hanging 4.) battery life is nowhere near what is claimed, it lasts about 3.5-4 hours PRO: 1.) its light ____ I owned the first computer for a month and this one for about 3 weeks and ive spent at least 5 hours total on the phone with sony helpdesk trying to work through these issues, I have no patience left for this, especially with the shut down issues and poor wireless and I wish I could return it for a refund but ofcourse that's not covered in warrenty. I DO NOT recommend making this purchase. I have friends with touchscreens that are light that work much better and were much cheaper (Lenovo, Samsung, MacBook) also windows 8 is super annoying and counterintuitive and when working on the desktop the start menu keeps popping up and forcing me to reselect the desktop

Very Dissapointed
1 Star Review   By CharlesA06 on Adorama - Sep 9, 2013

Pros: Very Slim, Lightweight, and Touch Screen which is nice. Cons: -No Disk Drive, No ethernet cable port -Wifi connection keeps dropping and when it is working, it's very slow. I even had the laptop a few feet from the router and the connection is still slow. Our internet connection runs at 16 mbps and I checked the speed of the Vaio Pro 13 on speedtest.net and it's running at 2 mbps. Sony claims that the WiFi driver update that was just released on 8/21/13 will fix the problem, but it doesn't. The WiFi connection still drops and is still slow. All in all, I am very disappointed in this laptop especially for the price. I have purchased the Vaio Z-Series in the past and could not be happier, but this laptop does not compare and is a waste of money in my opinion.

Lovely system, problematic wifi, but appears fixed
4 Star Review   By brjoce on Adorama - Aug 23, 2013

The Vaio Pro 13 is a great system. Definitely could be a 5 star across the board. It's light, thin, pretty, fast, and battery-economical; all things you would want in a laptop...err ultrabook. So why the 4 stars; well, the wifi was problematic. The issue was associated with wireless n disconnecting when the system was put to sleep. Restarting the system would remedy this issue, but after attempting to use Sony's current drivers, to no effect, the fix involved using the intel wireless 7620 drivers, which were more recent than the ones offered by Sony. It appears that the issue has now been resolved and my wife loves her new laptop. We're a loyal Sony household, and I have no doubt Sony will properly address the issue.

Very good and light laptop
4 Star Review   By szarogesy on Sony - Official Store - Aug 19, 2013

I've bouught this laptop month ago. Mostly using it for work and study (a lot of Excel, C programing, DTP, bash scripts with cygwin - prefere this way than dual boot for Windows and Linux). Pros: - lightwaight (just 1kg!), - with heavy internet usa (or watching movies) up to 5h. With normal work and some web browsing up to 6-7h. - backlit kaybord (you can swith it off with Vaio Control Centre (as well as auto screen brightness adjustment), - it is very preatty piece of work :) - excellent display (better than MacBook retina in my opinion), - touchscreen: fun but gamechanger as for me. - very fast (regarding hard drive, booting etc.) CPU and graphic card - just fine for me. I do not play games. Sometimes watching full hd movies (with this display really nice to watch)! Cons: - too sensitive touchpad. You have to get used to live with it. At desk, usally i do use mouse. when travel, mostly keybord or touchscreen, so this is not big issue, - max resolution 1920x1080. This is an issue for me. I have Dell U2711 external display with max 2540x1400 pix resolution. This computers hould be able to work with it but not. Even if HDMI is 1.4 in laptop I've tried to use very good 1.4 HDMI calbe (this Dell have 1.3 connector so it should not be able to obtain full resolution via HDMI) and HDMI-dualdDVI cable. I think graphic card driveras are an isse here and meybe future udpate will sove this. - This model has 124 GB drive. It is very fast but larger drive to expensive for me. But I've bought 64GB SD card and using it all the time as external partition - works fine for me (Snadisk Ultra, I can get up to 4 MB writing speed).

Beautiful Laptop
5 Star Review   By cder on Adorama - Aug 1, 2013

I was debating between this and the MacBook air, I wanted to run windows regardless but went with the vaio because of the higher resolution. If you buy this run the vaio updates which take care of the wifi issues and noisy fan. This is really a super gorgeous laptop with good battery life. My only problem has been the touchpad is super sensitive when typing, I'm hoping they release some kind of update where you can tweak the sensitivity. I may just need to get a mouse and turn the touchpad off.

Good but flawed enough to make a return.
3 Star Review   By David001 on Sony - Official Store - Jun 30, 2013

Many good things in this machine. On paper everything is there: HD screen, haswell, ssd, super light, low batter life..... But some serious flaws made me decide to return this and give you some feedback. The laptop make a high pitch noise even under low workload. It sounds like I have a HDD hard disc installed, or have internet Hub inside. It's not loud but it's different from fan noise which is smooth and regular. It's a distract especially when I work in a lab or quietly at home. The touchpad is not responsive enough. It has a delay when using IE, and occasional just don't respond. Moving up and down a pdf document or IE webpage is like displaying slides. The wifi occasional lose connection. The auto screen light adjustment is a good but not a necessary feature. The adjustment is staged not linear which is another distract. Worse, when i disable it from control center, it continues to adjust. I really like the product and tried many ways not to return. Who wants to spent time and money to return a working computer? But I have to. Please fix the touchpad and fan noise problem. And oh god SONY, for the sake of Harvard, MIT, BC and BU, you should never close your Boston retail store.
