Great power and form factor but has some issues
2 Star Review   By dtjosu on Sony - Official Store - Jan 2, 2014

Very powerful notebook with terrific processing power and graphics. I use this to travel extensively and the size and weight make it a perfect companion. Battery life was excellent at first but after about 5 months has declined to about 80% of original performance. Still above average but not as great as at the start. This unit has a terrific screen and the clarity is great. The problem that I have with it is that the keyboard/wrist rest/pointing device is flaky. It almost seems like the case is too thin and I find that the pointing device goes haywire frequently. Perhaps the case is coming in contact with the pointing device and it thinks someone is touching it even when I am using external keyboard and mouse. Haven't found a solution for it yet other than turning off the internal pointing device and "flexing" the wrist wrest area. That usually seems to work but I shouldn't have to do this on such a high-end notebook.

Scratached Cover and Blemishes Bottom
1 Star Review   By irvineac on Sony - Official Store - Dec 16, 2013

I have returned 2 brand new units because they came with scratched cover and the 3rd one I got has chips/blemishes on the bottom part of the laptop. On the bottom, it seems like there were debris sitting on the carbon fiber material sheets before it got powder coated. I found 8 spots protrude outward which I can feel them with my finger. I have found the same defects on the display in Sony store for the Vaio Pro 11 and 13 and some are without such finishing defect. I insist to get Vaio pro because of its weight for business use. I wish Sony can look into the issue and exchange a new one that is without any sort of visible scratches, chips or blemishes when brand new.

Very bad wifi
5 Star Review   By balajir16 on Sony - Official Store - Oct 5, 2013

I bought this comp while travelling in US and returned to India This is a wonderful laptop and is very light to carry around. I travel with this laptop for business, world-over and very often would like to use a projector to be connected to a laptop and universities in India and elsewhere use the VGA interface. Iam trying to find a HDMI to VGA convertor. Sony stores in Mumbai,India had no idea about this convertor. Locally made convertor works with VGA interface of a external monitor but not with a overhead projector. Iam ready to buy a Sony convertor, if one is made available. Can you please help? Regards Bala

Excellent computer, Win8 needs an overhaul
5 Star Review   By Kaleem on Sony - Official Store - Sep 30, 2013

Dear Friends... I also buying the Sony Vaio Pro 13 laptop... so same issue of Wifi some times working and some times not working.... but i find the solution. First update the Wifi driver and then install the Wifi Driver patch then don't connect any kind of device with usb ports just like a Wirless Mouse or Wirless headphone etc... After that Wifi is working fine and Internet is stable....

No backlighting on keyboard !
3 Star Review   By CocoaBeach on Sony - Official Store - Sep 25, 2013

I am a regular Sony customer: cellphone, pad, camera, laptop....but i have to say this is one of the most disappointing laptops i have ever purchased from Sony. After 10 days i am shipping it back today. Why such a "potentially" great laptop it is so badly manufactured?. Windows 8 only make things worst. Wifi problem it is just appalling. Keyboard quality...well, let us say there is no quality there. Screen and performance...below average. Touch screen? This is cool i can say. Extra battery? So badly designed!. By the way the laptop keeps crashing and restarting at least once a day. Fashion looking, super light...? yes absolutely, just by the looks this laptop is a pure 10, but looks are not enough. I will keep my old (2 yrs old) Sony laptop that is great and will wait for a better option. Ah! Once again, Windows 8? Come on! You can do better than this.

Fixes are Available for "Issues" of Wifi and fan
5 Star Review   By hopethishelpssomeone on Sony - Official Store - Sep 24, 2013

I just got this laptop and absolutely LOVE the size and weight of it. Amazing ultrabook with power! I originally ordered the Dell XPS 12 convertible touch and returned it to get this. I am SO glad I did!! The touch screen works so smoothly. When I first received the laptop, I was plagued with the wifi issues and loud fan, which is frequently reported on blog sites about this product. I fixed the wifi issues by: (1) running a firmware update from Sony's website; (2) updating the intel driver from intel's website - I used version 16.1.5 for windows 8 64-bit and it worked great; (3) run microsoft updates (which should run automatically once you update the firmware. After doing these things, I am having no problem with my wifi connection. You can also change the fan setting in the Vaio Control Center. Play with the fan settings and power settings and you shouldn't have to listen to that fan run constantly. I have to say, when I first got the computer I was so excited about every part of it except the fan and wifi. Now that I have those issues fixed, I will give this computer 5 stars. I can't believe how sleek, light and powerful this thing is!

1 Star Review   By peddu23 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 24, 2013

Seriously! The wi-fi never works smoothly. The connection is horribly slow and keeps dropping. I like everything about this laptop except the wi-fi connectivity. Thousands of people have the same problem with this laptop and Sony doesn't have an answer. DO NOT BUY! If sony fixes this issue, I will make sure to come back and update this.

BAD. very very bad
1 Star Review   By jon1 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 24, 2013

Just returned mine last week do to a multitude of problems, all surrounding around sony software. Wifi drivers would disappear on wake up. However, when? downloaded from intel, it did not have the same issue. Latest Bios update result in loss of brightness control after wake up. Need to reinstall update everytime to regain control. Viao care gave me the completely wrong touchpad driver, thus loosing gesture control. Tried it on 2 machines and both had the same issues. I'd stay away.

Fantastic Computer, Terrible OS
1 Star Review   By netren on Sony - Official Store - Sep 23, 2013

I bought the PRO to August 13. The notebook is nice and light but has serious problems of wifi reception. Not having the ethernet card is really very serious. Sony knows the problem and continues to sell it as if nothing had happened! The problem is the signal reception which often interrupts or reduces the throughput!

Amazing, but with a very basic problem
2 Star Review   By Sheharyar on Sony - Official Store - Sep 22, 2013

I love this laptop. I won't get in to the details about what I love, because there is one astoundingly bad problem. The WiFi is pathetic. Look it up, just google "Vaio Pro wifi" and see how many people have gathered even on Sony's forum complaining about the poor WiFi. A machine like this is premium. It is high end. It doesn't even have an ethernet port. Functional WiFi is absolutely essential to a laptop. I suggest wait until this gets fixed. Otherwise, don't buy.

Could be a great computer
2 Star Review   By Vonroach on Sony - Official Store - Sep 16, 2013

This computer had the potential to be great, but now it is only mediocre. The weight is fantastic, as is the keyboard feel. After resetting some of the touchpad variables, it works very, very well. The screen is beautiful, and while Windows 8 takes some getting use to, it seems to be a fine operating system. I wish the battery would last a bit longer. But the biggest failure of this computer is that my Wifi drops my internet connection several times a day. I have upgraded to the latest (16.1.5.2) yet it still drops about every two hours. There is much chatter about this online (just search for Sony Vaio Drops Internet Connection), and I have talked to the Sony techs (who are very friendly) twice, but so far there is no resolution. Given the fact that there is no physical internet connection available on this machine, this is a tremendous flaw.

VAIO PRO 11
5 Star Review   By doris on Sony - Official Store - Sep 14, 2013

Love it! Pros: Beautifully light, portable and powerful. Great for business travel or taking work home when I need to crunch numbers. Cons: - I had a wifi connection issue shortly after purchase. I discovered a Windows update ran before a Sony firmware update. The Windows update reset the wifi settings. I reconfigured the system to factory fresh and ran the Sony firmware update first. This did the trick for me. No more wifi issues. The diagnosis took 90 minutes. The fix was pretty quick. I wish Sony had installed the firmware before shipping. - Windows 8 isn't great--still, I love the touchscreen. I'm comfortable in Win 8 desktop mode (which looks like Win 7#. I look forward to Windows 8.1. I'm sure it will get better. - Small screen text. I'm not sure if this is a technical problem with the VAIO or with me getting older. I adjusted text size and that worked for me. I was able to overcome the cons within the first day or two. After those fixes, the experience has been very positive. The VAIO is a great travel companion. It's more powerful than the MacBook Air, except for battery life. But with the extended battery #which I bought), the VAIO still weighs less than the Air and has longer battery life.

If i could give this computer ZERO STARS I would. Horrible computer. Just like someone else said its just a VERY expensive $2000 paperweight. Even paid for extended care and cant get sony to care for anything. Only had 2 months HORRBLE wifi issues cant connect to web, tracking pad issues, the list of problems are endless and the way they tell you to repair it doesnt work. Just a piece of ****. I WANT MY MONEY BACK. Customer service is horrible. DONT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on and on. The only positive thing about this laptop is the weight and size otherwise worthless. Im so frustrated I cant even explain how bad this is. I have never written a review before but this computer is SO BAD I had to WARN others not to WASTE MONEY. Did I say customer service is HORRIBLE so is technical support

WiFi issues galore
3 Star Review   By Sweet on Sony - Official Store - Sep 5, 2013

I purchased this one customized and spent about $2,000. I was pretty bummed to find that it too had the Wi-Fi problem and there was an error with the office software that they preinstalled (I paid $200 for H&B and it said there was an error with Microsoft and the Code was invalid.). Unfortunately it took me several hours to resolve it. I had to uninstall and install it several times, run the troubleshoot, the Sony staff were unable to help me, (except to tell me to wipe the computer which I has just installed everything on) they would not refund me or issue me a new code & That was very frustrating. On a lighter note, I think the computer is fast , I love the size and weight. I've only had it a month but I am hoping that it works out well.

Amazing ultrabook!
5 Star Review   By Dolan on Sony - Official Store - Sep 4, 2013

First of all, there is no WiFi connection issue. The WiFi connection is perfect and doesn't disconnect. So far my VAIO Pro 13 works smoothly, the only shortcoming is the loud noise from the cooling fan. At first I was shocked because the noise was so loud, if you are in a library this will definitely going to be a big disturbance to you and people around you. It got much better after I set the fan to silence mode in the VAIO Control Center. As long as the CPU temperature is below 55 degrees centigrade the noise won't bother you at all. So if you just use Windows Office, browse websites or watch high quality videos you don't have to worry about the noise. I tried to run a 3D racing game and the CPU temperature went up to 60 degrees, the noise is tolerable. If you do other tasks and it goes up to 65 degrees in the fan silent mode then you should consider getting a cooling pad. My advice is to download a safeguard to keep an eye on the CPU temperature, get a cooling pad and avoid using Performance and Standard mode in the fan configuration panel. I don't think anyone can tolerate that kind of noise without ear plugs. Overall I am satisfied with my new PC.

How to make good things...bad...but VERY BAD.
2 Star Review   By citizensoldier36 on Sony - Official Store - Sep 3, 2013

I purchased this computer a few weeks ago. Never has so much computing potential been wasted on such a terrible, buggy, user un-friendly OS. Sony would do well if they went back to an earlier version of WIndows OS

Nice and Portable
5 Star Review   By Damol589 on Sony - Official Store - Aug 30, 2013

I got the Vaio Pro 13 a few weeks ago to replace my 5 months old Vaio T. Over all Pro is a much better machine. It has a very good display and sound for its from factor. I have not had any WiFi issues at any airport or at home. At home I am connecting to a 5 GHz router with no issues whatsoever and the 2.4 GHz connection is also stable but it maxes out at 25-30 Mbps while 5 GHz gets the full speed of my service provider at 55 Mbps. The performance is much better than expected and the battery last over 7 hrs. In my opinion the only complaint I have is the loud cooling fan that kicks in almost right after the laptop is turned on. Sony just released a BIOS update to reduce the fan noise in silent mode but it also reduces the performance. Over all I am very happy with Vaio Pro 13!

How Fix the Wifi Issie
5 Star Review   By TechnoFreak on Sony - Official Store - Aug 30, 2013

I have had this computer for over a month and overall I love it. Super fast and responsive, great on the go and at your desk connect to large screen, mouse and keyboard and it's a lightening fast desktop. Great phone support. I do not like the Windows 8 touchscreen but maybe that's my own issue so don't use it and if it's not perfect that is Microsoft's fault, not Sony. The touchpad drove me crazy at first - not intuitive and did all kinds of wacky things when I first bought it, but Sony Support helped me to remove all these features so it works fine as a regular touchpad--though I use a mouse since it's much easier. Great phone support, answered immiediately and very helpful. Worth buying from Sony just for the great phone support!

Notebook with serious problem with wifi
1 Star Review   By aksak on Sony - Official Store - Aug 29, 2013

You can add one more unsatisfied customer with the WiFi connection issue that everyone is describing. It takes me 10 minutes to get connected and I am constantly trying to use the troubleshooting network option to reset the Wireless Network Adapter -- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I need to get to my daily morning meeting 10 minutes early to make sure that I can connect to the network. Very frustrating. I have been to the Sony Store in San Jose and get the response that they are aware and the update hasn't solved it. I've got a nearly $2000 laptop that acts more like a paperweight!

What ever happened to the nice Sony laptops?
2 Star Review   By balamt on Sony - Official Store - Aug 27, 2013

I purchase about a dozen Sony laptops every year. The current line up seems very geared towards the casual consumer rather than the business users. I used to be able to pick a model that had at minimum an Ethernet port and a docking station. Now I'm stuck with a glorified touchpad. If I wanted a touchpad I would look in the touchpad section. I want a powerful notebook/laptop that has a dock and some good processing power and memory options. I guess it is time to start looking at other brands.

a step back in prodcutivity
1 Star Review   By whatname on Sony - Official Store - Aug 25, 2013

I almost never write reviews, however, this laptop is so frustrating - I felt obligated. Setting aside that Windows 8 is less than an ideal OS, this laptop takes patience to a new place. The wireless takes 5-45 minutes to connect - EVERYTIME!! - It can't troubleshoot itself and usually ends up suggesting that you use a wired connection (would be nice if this computer had Ethernet capability, but alas no). The touchpad has a mind of its own, I find my typing skips all over the page and usually I must stop every few moments to ensure the cursor hasn't relocated itself. Additionally, the cursor now decides randomly to fall down and left off the page at any given moment. Almost unusable. The rest so far seems ok. - so to recap - OS8 - bad, Wireless - HORRIBLE - trackpad - HORRIBLE!! customer service - oh yes, chatted with them, their suggestion on a 1 day old computer was to take it in for service... nice.

Fast as lighting, super light and long batter life! Perfect for me, since I'm a college student I can't even tell I'm lugging it around. It's also crazy thin! I haven't had any WiFi issues as some have stated, it's a great little laptop, especially for college students!

Huge WiFi problems
2 Star Review   By ellpet on Sony - Official Store - Aug 21, 2013

Just got the new 11.6" Vaio Pro. Its form factor is very nice. BUT: the machine I got has no backlit keyboard despite what the online spec said. A Sony tech checked it and confirmed that the machine I had been sent has no such feature. Apparently, other configurations of Vaio Pro 11 may have it - if you are lucky, you may get one. Seems random and with no bearing on the price. Can't be just an issue with the bare-bones configuration as I paid extra for a custom-built one. I had concerns about the wi-fi connectivity issue - no problem there, but I am pretty sure that being sent a machine with a missing feature is considered misleading advertising. This is not an issue of a bug or kink due to new technology. It seems like short-changing the customer. Didn't expect that from Sony.

Don't Purchase without Full Firmware Updates
5 Star Review   By HenryTryingToUseSony on Sony - Official Store - Aug 12, 2013

ORDERING: Called and asked about the ship dates, during the call and on the web after ordering the dates moved +/- 1 week. One annoying thing to get the "Sony Reward Points" I had to separately register my name, address, phone, e-mail, etc. and re-type it in manually even after Sony had all of the info from the order. SPECS: Pro 13 specs page on the web shows Ethernet 1000/100 base-T, but without an Ethernet port, this is a misprint, only Wifi. This is obvious, but the SD Card reader allows 128GB or more FLASH storage to be added. I wanted to use Microsoft Bitlocker so I ordered Win 8 PRO and the TPM module. I didn't care about the i7 thus got the i5 and saved the $150 vs. buying an "ship now" version. Seems their queue of orders is deep enough to take 1 week from order to start preparing my PC. A few days after "We're now configuring your computer", the status changed to "Payment Processed". Two days later I received an e-mail notice saying "your order has shipped". Ships from Shan Dong China to Shanghai to USA. STARTUP: Closing and opening the lid I could not see it come out of sleep mode, it was so fast. I found my self trying to see if it was really sleeping by looking at the screen as it closed against the keyboard, then opening quickly. Reminded me of when I was a child trying to open the refrigerator fast to see the light come on. Using an external monitor: you will need a separate (I suggest wireless) keyboard and mouse. Also with your Pro 13 sitting out of the way of your keyboard, will be tough to use the webcam with your monitor, thus may need an extra web cam mounted to the monitor, same consideration for mike and speakers. I only buy a PC every ~3 years and I wear it everyday on the train. Bought a third-party Messenger Bag for a 13" PC, works great and is light. Enjoy this PC every day, but I DO NOT LIKE Win8.

amazing!!
5 Star Review   By vonsazkin on Sony - Official Store - Jul 30, 2013

I have had this ultrabook for about a month now. I have the i7 with 8GB RAM and 256GB PCIe SSD. The 1080p touchscreen is amazing - very sharp and very bright (it covers 93% of RGB color gamut). The keyboard is amazing to type on - very few errors. I do not feel the flex while typing on this thing. The boot up time is about 2-3 seconds and resume time is less than 2 seconds. Battery lasts about 7 hours for me at about 60% brightness (I have optimal settings on the battery so it charges only to 80% and not the full 100%). I plan to get the sheet battery. The audio quality is great. Below 70% volume, it isn't very audible, but above that it just suddenly sounds amazing. I have not had any issues with Wi-Fi so far. It connects in no time and has never dropped the signal. The materials used are of high quality and this thing isn't prone to scratches at all like aluminum can be. Best of all, I love how thin and light this is. As for the downsides: The touchpad does not always register a tap (right/left clicks are fine) but you get used to it - tap in the center of the touchpad and it is fine. A driver update should fix this. The fan does run loud at times, especially when watching videos, but otherwise is quiet. A non-issue for me. I highly recommended this for someone looking for a high end ultrabook. There is also a review by MobileTechReview on YouTube about this laptop. Worth a watch.

Don't Purchase without Full Firmware Updates
3 Star Review   By phil13 on Sony - Official Store - Jul 19, 2013

Purchased this computer from a Sony store. Took it home and spent 6 frustrating hours trying to install Windows and Sony software/firmware updates. There were numerous problems and "glitches" and annoyances during this process. I have an above average knowledge of computers -- I'm afraid most daily/casual computer users might not have even made it through these issues. Even after this painful process, the computer still had wireless and trackpad issues. I returned to the Sony store the next day to discuss the issues with their in-store tech. He informed me that Sony had already reached out to all their stores, indicating that ALL of these computers need major firmware updates (that aren't available here, on the Sony webpage). The in-store techs are (according to him) updating these computers before they are allowed out of the store. Before you buy this machine, ensure that the ALL firmware updates are done BEFORE you take it home. Sadly, Sony has made no mention of this on their webpage, and no "outreach" has been (so far) made. Overall, a poor first impression of this computer and Sony computer sales.
