Pros:Weight - 2 lbs.Portability - this unit is very close in size to the iPad making it very portablePerformance - the i5 processor combined with the SSD hard drive made this device a dream to use.Handwriting - This device has a Wacom digitizer and Windows 7 built in hand writing recognition was very good.Cons:Size – This unit is 11.5” diagonal 16 x9 display, after using 12.5” 4 x 3 displays for 4 years, the extra inch is surprisingly missed.Dimension – This unit is awkward in either landscape or portrait. The extra width puts too much stress on your hand when holding it in landscape and it’s noticeably narrow when holding it in portrait when viewing websites.Resolution – it comes with a 1366 x 786 display. If you are using something like Dragon Naturally Speaking and are accustomed to having the bar at the top of the screen, this small amount of horizontal resolution is eaten quickly. Fingerprint Reader – there is none. Samsung does include its own additional logon mode much like most smart cell phones so logon can be quicker, but I feel that for security reasons it should have a fingerprint reader.TPM – and again, there isn’t one. With a lot of medical facilities moving toward encrypting hard drives, it would be nice to see this device with a TPM for these added security features. There have been many reports of the backing coming loose from the glass. Fortunately we didn’t have that problem with our unit. Our testing was cut short by the lack of our vendors (all three of them) to locate a docking station for us to use during our testing. Our plan was to place docking stations where the physicians work with USB attached keyboards attached to those docks. Bluetooth would not work since the multiple physicians would be using the same docking station, if multiple Bluetooth keyboards were synced to multiple slates, the antics would have been grand.Overall this is an excellent first generation device. If you are in the market for a full featured laptop replacement, this slate can definitely make you happy. Ultimately we decided that the size issue and inability to add a second battery, or even swap the battery out on the go made this device less useful at this time. If and when our electronic medical records software vendor create a smaller display friendly interface we will seriously reconsider at our next hardware refresh.
