Limited Wifi connectivity
1 Star Review   By Carol38 on HP - Apr 23, 2013

The computer looks beautiful, but I couldn't connect to the internet! Internet connection would randomly become 'limited'. I sent the computer back and they sent me a new one with the same problem. I updated drivers and nothing would fix it. If this is a problem with the intel wifi card I wish HP knew how to fix it.

This product has everything that I needed
4 Star Review   By Wilhelmina17 on HP - Apr 21, 2013

Smooth design with lighted keyboard for nighttime work in bed....just don't open the lid while it sits on your legs or you will get pinched....It could also use a DVD/CD player....otherwise it takes a while to get used to the Windows 8 features, but it is fast, very fast and meets my needs.

This product should be avoided
1 Star Review   By wizkid on HP - Mar 31, 2013

PLEASE AVOID. Trust me this is my 3rd laptop after replacement and replacement over again At first the laptop looks great feels great and awesome when out of the box and booted up. But after few days your notice that the the laptop lacks. In Audio, service, cool sense, wifi and battery. AUDIO: You get this annoying robotic sound. while listening to music or streaming movies. Horrible and embarrassing when people are all over your new laptop at school believing your PC is better than a Mac. Then this happens. Also, Beats audio is nothing if you don't have the headphones connected to the laptop. It sounds the same comparing to my old HP dv6 1245dx. STABILITY: Laptop locks constantly with in 5min without the use and must enter password over and over again. SERVICE: The technical support was not even able to fix the problem. i called and had them connect to my PC more then 4 times and still each technical support has faced problems like this and cant fix it. smh COOL SENSE: Just a name. This laptop get over heated and there's only one place where the fan is located. extremely gets hot and makes loud noise, slightly less then my 4 year old laptop. WI-FI: shuts down randomly. Lose connection, then must shut off wifi then on again to connect once more. BATTERY: Very poor. get about 2&1/2 hours of battery life very bad, need to carry the charger all times There's still good things about this laptop. Display, lightweight, backlight keyboard, start up speed, 8g ram and The TOUCH is perfect and great to have. My girlfriends loves this and gets attention. Also, my niece and nephew love to draw on it and color in one of the painting app. Windows 8 is great and awesome. Its the future.

Very good laptop at reasonable price
4 Star Review   By Gordon42 on HP - Mar 30, 2013

The Spectre XT is a very well designed and well built laptop. I appreciate the pound or so I lost from my last laptop, although calling it an Ultrabook is a bit of a stretch. The screen is beautiful but the very high resolution on a 15" screen results in unreadable print on many web pages and apps. Fortunately HP has made it easy to change the resolution as needed, and there is some third party software that does the job even easier and better. The keyboard has an unusual feel to it, but in actual use it is excellent, with extremely good backlighting. The touchpad is by far the best I've ever used (except when I borrow my wife's MacBook Pro, but the HP is just as good). I would have liked a separate graphics card for photo processing, but the Intel is fine for everything else except gaming (which I don't care about). Overall the Spectre has all the features and speed I need for almost every type of use. My only problem: Windows 8 is a disaster. Fortunately there is some good third party software available that make Windows 8 look and act very much like Windows 7. Oh, one other minor complaint: HP has packaged a lot of "crapware" on the machine. Just a nuisance getting rid of it all on start up.

Great Machine! Caution Ordering AC Adapter
4 Star Review   By Valiantlord on HP - Mar 4, 2013

This is an excellent machine for all the reasons that others have posted here. I particularly love the touchscreen. I am writing this review to caution purchasers that when ordering the recommended AC adapters shown on the accessories page for this laptop, none of them are the correct model. When I contacted the HP Concierge service for assistance, the support technician agreed that the part numbers on the website are not correct for this model laptop. You can order the AC adapter as a spare replacement parts from the service department.

Poor keyboard and battery and audio
2 Star Review   By endless on HP - Feb 17, 2013

over all it is stylish product (especially compared to other options out there for people stuck with Windows) but a few main complaints--- Keyboard design is so poor. Don't get mislead by Mac-Pro looking keyboard. Keys are small for many people and the 'Up and Down' arrows are split in to two in the same key. Zoom on the picture to see. you will soon realize how big a problem it is, especially if you use those keys alot. They made the Shift key on the top of the arrow keys so big, which is a useless key, they should have just used a separately keys for Up and Down arrows. Not so great design. -- There is some kind of strange positioning of the touchpad or something, I find that as I am typing the cursor suddenly moves to a different line or position. I still couldn't figure out what it is, tech support is useless on this. -- Batter life is so average for the price. It is close to 2.5 hours if you are using it with music. -- The less said about Beats audio the better. As long as you have head phones on, you are fine, but if you play with out them, dude.. thats pretty average sound as if it is coming through a barrel. My 4-yr old laptop (ironically from HP dv6t) plays better sound. -- The extra money you pay for Intel WiDi is useless in the near future, as I still did not find any adapters that work with Windows 8.

Beautiful computer, Great performance
5 Star Review   By Jim2000 on HP - Jan 2, 2013

I have been using my laptop for a while now and really like all of the features. Here are some specific things that I like: 1. The touchscreen is very responsive. I was really surprised at how easy it is to actually use the touchscreen on a laptop. 2. The screen resolution is great for watching movies. 3. The speakers produce great sound for movies or listening to music. 4. Processing power and RAM. I am able to do work with this computer that causes other computers that I use to freeze up. The power of this machine is impressive. 5. Quick boot time, this is probably my favorite feature. The computer is ready to use seconds after turning it on.

All around a greaat computer. Only complaint is that the battery life is very average. Thin, light, and fast. Very portable even though it has a big screen. I definitely recommend this computer to any college student

Best Windows 8 Touch Ultrabook
5 Star Review   By Chris123456 on HP - Dec 27, 2012

This product is the best touch screen ultrabook on the market. I was torn between the IdeaPad Yoga 13 and the XPS 12. After using a mac book air for a month I decided I couldn't stand to use a 13" screen. Then this released and I took a chance. I'm normally not a fan of HP, but I think they hit a home run with this machine. It's well built, sleek looking, and light given it's size. It also has the horsepower for to do light photo editing and software development. Windows 8 is made for a touch interface and having a touch screen makes using windows 8 fun and enjoyable. My only gripe is that I'd like to set the computer sideways (like a book) and use the touch screen but it won't let me change the orientation. I also wish they had thought of a way to make the screen lay flat so it could be used as a psuedo tablet. Reaching across the keyboard works but it's not the most comfortable. This ultrabook also has two video outs, which is hard to find. It has an HDMI and Thunderbolt port so you could theoretically runt two additional monitors. Given the price and the specs you'd be hard pressed to find a better laptop.

Exactly what I was expecting
5 Star Review   By cboz1962 on HP - Dec 26, 2012

I've only had the computer for about a week, but so far, so good. It is exactly what I was looking for. It's very thin, very fast (all new computers are) and has a great display along with all of the other components I was looking forward to upgrading to. I'm still at the bottom of the Windows 8 touch screen learning curve, but I'll get there. I also purchased (separately) a USB 3.0 docking station (Toshiba Dynadock) so I could get the multiple monitor display. I am having issues with the multi-display going blank and resetting itself back to the laptop monitor, but I gave 5 stars because it could be the dock and not the laptop. I've read conflicting information on various sites (it may also be the usb 3 drivers). Regardless of that, as a standalone, thin, fast laptop with a great touchscreen display, this is one nice laptop. I will certainly look at HP in the future when upgrade time rolls around.

touchpad position problem
1 Star Review   By UsabilityGuru on HP - Dec 16, 2012

Touch pad positioned off the keyboard center, making it difficult for touch typing Put your indexes on F and J keys and you'll find the touchpad closer to you right hand, while it should be easily reachable by the both hands. There is a place for symmetry, but not for the price of usability. This in addition to half-sized arrow keys is enought reason to skip this product. The screen is very good, 1080 IPS! Touch screen feature is very welcome Overall looks is quite attractive I like the position of ther power button - will not accidently press this button while carying the laptop in your right hand with the screen open. Have to wait for a model with the classic keyboard (regular size arrows) and the touch pad center aligned to the "B" key

Fast, light and stylish
5 Star Review   By JerryNCMD on HP - Dec 13, 2012

I ordered the Spectre 15t-4000 in mid November and just received it December 11. It was worth the wait! Between the time I ordered it and production, SSDs were added to the option list on the website, and my initial thought was, "oh great, not even built and already obsolete". Not so! The 32 GB mSSD has this up and running in about 10 seconds, and the added space on the 500 GB 7200 rpm drive will come in handy over the optional 256 GB SSD. My previous HP laptop has dual 7200 rpm 500 GB hard drives, and I have never had a problem with them, so I am comfortable with this drive. Windows 8 is starting to grow on me, and has been the biggest adjustment to the new laptop. The computer is very light and aesthetically quite pleasing. The special soft cover for the laptop and the ballistic nylon case for the power pack and cords are a nice touch. The touch screen works very well, though you can save on smudges by using the track pad and keyboard. Needless to say, while it is probably part of the Window 8 platform, the touchscreen keyboard is redundant and not likely to be used. In combination with the external BluRay/DVD/CD drive and pocket drive for backup, this meets all my computing needs.
