Best price I found by far for a capable computer that can attach to a docking station. Battery life is outstanding as well.

I love my new laptop. I like HP Products
The laptop is easy to set up and to use right out of the box. I have had it a week and so far no problems. HP Tech support is very patient and helpful with any questions I have had. My first laptop didn't work out of the box. HP sent me a new replacement laptop before the first one even arrived back at their warehouse. They sent the replacement laptop overnight which was great. The only thing that I don't like is that the door to the CD is very hard to open. I have to put the laptop on its side to open it up.

Great build quality
I bought this machine to replace my old but still high-end 6-year old HP laptop that's taken a beating but eventually failed. I mainly picked it because I am hoping to get another 6 years out of this laptop. I have a feeling I will not be dissappointed. I like my laptops to have good build quality: nice keyboards with good "travel" when you press the keys and a good "click" feel so you can type in the dark. I like the two separate mouse buttons instead of the single button where you can click each side or the (terrible) trackpad with no physical buttons at all. The keyboard light is really handy, and I find myself loving the features like the fingerprint reader which I didn't think I would ever use. One suprising thing that I like is that the mouse buttons are made of plastic and not aluminum like the rest of the body. This is nice because they have a textured and soft feel. The aluminum body seems to keep the machine quite cool even when I'm running a really cpu and disk intensive task. I bought an extra 4GB DIMM to install and I was pleasantly suprised to see that the body opens up quite easily just by unlocking a few latches while still feeling like a quite solid build. It appears that the designers made a concerted effort to make all of the parts of the machine easily serviceable. When I buy a machine, the first thing I usually do is repartition/reformat the HDD and reinstall Windows clean. But there wasn't really any need to do that with with this PC. Usually there is a ton of junkware installed but I found that all of the preinstalled software was quite nice and useful. It didn't seem to impose any tax on my machine in the background either. I did wind-up using the included recovery media to reinstall, though, because I didn't like the way the HDD was partitioned and the partitions couldn't be resized to suit me. It was a breeze to reinstall of the preinstalled software and get it right back to the factory state which was really nice (a welcomed change from most PCs). I have only seen two minor drawbacks: 1. There is no hardware volume control. Most HPs have hardware volume controls but this one only has a mute button. It is extra fustrating to me because the mute is indicated by a red/green LED and I (like a lot of men) am red/green colorblind so it's pretty much useless. Most HPs have a blue LED that is easier to see. 2. The "function" keys (f1, f2, f3, etc) are evenly spaced on the keyboard without any tactile indicators of which ones are which. Most laptops have a subtle spacing between the f4 and f5 and f8 and f9 keys that you can feel when you type so that you can easily find the right key without looking. You probably don't realize the suble space until it isn't there and then you find that you have to stop typing at look at your keyboard to figure-out which function key you are hitting. I am considering putting some sort of sticker or something on the f5 and f9 keys so that I can use them without looking like normal.

I have this Elitebook 8460p notebook. Well worth to get this laptop. has lots of good features and they seem to improve it with updates to firmware as well as software updates, bios updates. one problem i have is hp has at least 3 or 4 different programs for finding updates on the laptop and downloading and installing them, however i find the different updating programs do not actually always match at any given time for the updates that exist. i'm also hoping that the newest bios update, that was emailed to me, but does not appear to be downloadable from the product downloads page yet, not listed there yet, will fix an issue with the bluetooth driver not installing that i currently have. all said, it is a very nice laptop with all the newest technology on it. uncled

The overall build quality is good, graphics work exceptionally well when running mainstream games, doesent get hot. I think this is a great product for the money spent . Buy the next model up if you want a modem or do an upgrade, I purchased an extra 4GB RAM which really boosted the speed during gameplay and office applications. It also has a good amount of ports more than the average user would need, overall its a great buissness laptop thats versatile enough to use for gaming or buisness.

I like this laptop very much - many useful features. The only trouble I've had is opening the CD slot. The button is difficult to use - requiring me to hold up the left side of the laptop so I can push it with my thumbnail.

Good fit and finish. Little flex when holding it by a corner. Easy access to memory and internals for easy maintenance. Runs cool. Battery life is >5 hrs even when running lots of heavy appliications. Was able to get additional 4 gb for cheap so it runs really fast. Only complaint is that it is hard to remove from docking station. Remember that it comes with windows pro which is more expensive than other versions. Nightlite is a little cheesy. Works in a emergency though.

Fingerprint reader failed about a month after I got the computer. Now I have to send it in for repair and be without it for a few days. A fingerprint reader is not what I would consider an essential feature, but if I paid for it I want it to work.
