Good performance, decent-quality, excellent price
This is my second Toshiba laptop. Since I had good experience with the first one, I knew I could rely on the Toshiba brand. I did about 1-2 weeks worth of comparison shopping before I purchased this laptop. Even though this laptop is meant to be a backup computer I needed to make sure it had reasonable performance for work. I do graphic and video editing, so the computer had to be able to run editing applications. According to the system requirements and what forum users had to say, the processor would work well. And so far it has done everything I needed it to. I have used the computer for gaming, graphic editing and some video processing. And so far it has performed quite well. It processed a short video in just under a few minutes, when it would have probably taken longer on my Macbook Pro. And I didn't expect to be playing the latest games on this laptop, but it has run Diablo 3 without much of an issue (although not on the highest settings, so don't expect to play games that require intense graphic rendering). I like that the laptop doesn't weigh a lot, but it makes it difficult to open the lid with only one hand. You have to hold the base down, otherwise you end up lifting up the entire laptop. It's a minor thing, but I just thought I'd mention it. Otherwise the fact that it's light is great, since I frequently move up and down stairs with it depending on where I'm working. It doesn't feel cheap....just light. Another minor issue, I wish the USB and headphone inputs weren't so close to the front of the computer. It just feels awkward for some reason and I would have preferred them closer to the screen/back of the laptop. Again, not that big of a deal, but worth pointing out. The keyboard felt a bit tighter - the keys closer together - than my Macbook, so it took some time to get used to it. It didn't take that long to adjust and I actually think I can type faster on the Toshiba. So, I'm pleased with the keyboard. Overall, I give this laptop top scores for performance and functionality. I would recommend it to a friend, and I would recommend it to anyone needing an affordable laptop with good performance.

Quality with reasonable prices
Toshiba laptops have always come highly recommended and having experience with other brands has kept my frame of thinking towards Toshiba products permanently. It would take quite an outstanding product at an even more outstanding price than what Toshiba offers to even make me reconsider another brand.

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5231 15.6" Black Laptop
Strengths: Easy to use.
Weakness: Too many problems
Within the first 3 months of owning this laptop the power cord went out on it. I called Toshiba and they wanted me to send in the whole laptop, cord, etc. I just went down and bought a new one for $90.Next, just before the warranty on this ended, I got a screen that had multi-colored lines running through it. You could get no picture except the lines. This time I sent the laptop in to Toshiba. They did correct the problem however it took about a month to do.About 4 months after getting the laptop back (now not under warranty), I opened it to use one day and the screen was "cracked". Now it just shows as black. I have had to hook it up to an exterior monitor to use the laptop.I would not purchase another laptop from Toshiba.

The Satellite C655-S5231 Laptop has everything I need to accomplish tasks I have with respect to the price. I only wish it was designed with more usb ports and the power adaptor was positioned on the rear of the laptop. I have not had any issues so far.

This laptop has been great so far. Runs fast, downloads as fast as connection will allow, Lightweight (great for students), big hard drive and great memory for the price. I don't use facebook though, just lots of general internet use (e-mail, shopping, surfing) playing media (mostly music) and running standard programs (Adobe, Word, Excel). Would recommend for anyone on a budget who needs something for general purpose on-the-go use. One downside: there are only two usb ports, so if you plan to use an external mouse you will only have one left to work with.

My first computer
Seems to work pretty good except when i compose an Ee-mail I usually have to hit enter when I want it to go to next line. Technicians at Staples didn't know how to fix.

Super pleased for the price!
I really shopped around before purchasing, and had an entirely different computer picked out. But when it was out of stock at two Staples locations, the store clerk suggested this one based on my needs. It was $50 more than my original choice, but SOOOOO well worth it. Quick, tons of memory. Pretty light-weight. I love that it has the num pad built in, as well as web cam w/mic. My only two complaints (and they're small) are: 1) Touchpad is so sensitive that I often change the zoom level of the screen by accident. 2) CD slot is too close to where the adapter plugs in,making it awkward to open and close. I really recommend this as an affordable, do-it-all laptop for nearly all users. Thanks Toshiba!!!

not what I was hoping for
My Toshiba is a month old and it is already giving me problems. I play facebook apps and am constantly popping up with line _ is full. Also closes my page unexpectedly frequently. Speakers are very weak evenat full volume. I'm not happy with my purchase and wish They hadn't run out of the Toshiba model that I originally wanted.

Not really what I expected
I saw the lap top in an ad, and I liked the price. I'm not crazy about it. It runs slow and you have to push hard on the mouse buttons. I feel like this is a situation where you get what you pay for. The price was good, but not crazy about the quality.

High On Satellite
After owning the Satellite C655 for about a month I would say it is a great laptop. But then I expected it to be since I had purchased several other Toshiba latops for the company I was working for. I have no real complaint with the laptop (though I would have liked to had a couple more USB ports), but I have little use for Windows 7. If I would have had a choice of operating systems, it would have been XP.

Touchpad w/Multi-touch Control
The Touchpad w/Multi-touch Control which has embedded scrolling and embedded zoom features causes extreme frustration when using the computer. This condition destroys the overall rating. Both features are uncontrollable and become activated without any concious effort on the part of the user. Unnecessary time and effort must be expended to 'normalize' the display and resume the task at hand.
