Lenovo N5901 Wireless Mini Keyboard
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jul 5, 2010

The Lenovo N5901 Wireless Mini Keyboard (57Y6336) is an ultra-compact, wireless keyboard featuring a keyboard and mouse (w/track ball). It uses a wireless USB dongle to allow for operation anywhere within 10 m or 32 ft of a PC. As well as being useful for “coach potatoes,” the N5901 is very versatile in that critics report that it works with any desktop—Windows 7, Vista, XP, Macbook Pro, etc. They also say it’s comfortable to hold and type with, but it isn’t recommended for more than just simple web browsing / emailing, as cramping can occur. Also missing is a Windows Media shortcut, though there are volume/playback controls. Plus navigation is a bit painful, as users must first scroll with the trackpad, then move their thumb over the correct mouse button. This means that scrolling or dragging a window typically require two hands. Features Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard Keyboard and Mouse ... PROS: (1) turns any PC into an effective HTPC with fully functional remote keyboard and mouse (2) lightweight (3) solid construction (4) great rangee (5) too small to be used as a touch typing keyboard - limits its functionality, and that of your new HTPC ... CONS: (1) glossy plastic finish picks up fingerprints and scratches easily (2) no Windows Media Center key (3) noisy trackball - should have been a trackpad or trackpoint! (4) no backlighting

Lenovo N5901 Black Keyboard and Mouse Combo
4 Star Review

Strengths: Great all in one unit. Mouse ball is very responsive. Easy to hold in one hand. Dedicated keys for numbers.

Weakness: No back-light. No Function keys.

Purchased for $27.00 + Tax from Lenovo.com - good deal to connect a PC directly to my television. Having the arrow keys on the keyboard makes scrolling web pages convenient. I would not use this keyboard/mouse as my primary device, but to have this device as an easy way to connect a PC to my TV it works great. I would purchase this item again.

MY SECOND PURCHASE - AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!
5 Star Review   By WestLAJon on LENOVO - Mar 23, 2011

Strengths: Input/Output compatibility, Durability, Software compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, the best input device

Weakness: no backlight

I must be the biggest fan of this product. After a couple years of non-stop daily use and countless dropping onto a concrete floor, on button was a little bit sticky, so I GLADLY bought another and still think this is THE BEST TRACKBALL/INPUT DEVICE I've ever owned. Yes .... there is NO BACK LIGHT .... but compared to it's wireless trackball flawless use, durability and price .... I couldn't possibly give more praise and high enough review for this product. Thanks Lenovo!

Excellent little controller
5 Star Review   By Blake on LENOVO - Mar 16, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Warranty, Durability, Software compatibility

Weakness: Keyboard/peripherals

The keys are little small (or I have big fingers :) but it's not much different from my Blackberry - in fact it is bigger and easier to use. If you can manage email using a Blackberry, this is so much easier to type stuff in. The range is good and power consumption is pretty impressive. I use it most with my HTPC. Perfect little universal control.

Great remote for laptop attached to Big Screen TV
5 Star Review   By Pauliecow on LENOVO - Mar 15, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Warranty, Support, Durability, Build Quality

Weakness: would be nice to light up the keyboard

I used to use a large wireless keyboard but it was always in the way. This remote is great. I was worried I would have a problem with the small keys but the design makes it easy to hit the right key. Lenovo customer service was great. I had a problem with one key repeatedly getting stuck. They sent me a new unit overnight.

Strengths: Battery, Input/Output compatibility, Weight, Build Quality

I am using this remote/keyboard in my living room Windows 7 Media Center setup and I don't use any other remote anymore. Will be great if there is some type of back lighting for the keys when using in dark movie rooms. but overall great design single hand usage is good, Go Lenovo!

Not quite what I expected
3 Star Review   By LMOMaine on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

I purchased this because I frequently work at home and cannot always juggle my laptop and my work files. This seemed like a good alternative to a traditional keyboard and wireless mouse. However, it is too small to be really useful. It is about the size of a cell phone keyboard--which would be great for texting but is not so good for typing actual documents. It might be great for just surfing the net and a little light typing. I don't know because I don't have the time to just play. The trackball mouse works pretty well, though.

almost but not quite
4 Star Review   By eigerkill on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Durability, Keyboard/peripherals, Build Quality

Love the compact design, reliability, ease and trouble free use. Problems include: Trackball skips when used vertically. Turning on my 2.4ghz wireless headphones causes the keyboard/mouse to freeze. How this product could be improved: Move the multimedia buttons closer to the mouse, and add a dedicated scroll wheel.

Almost great
3 Star Review   By Krizizzy on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Pro: The design is very ergonomic. And the roll ball is sufficient for some small web surfing. Con: - no backlit keyboard - HOW can you design home theater keyboard that does not have keyboard backlit? MOst of the time you want your home theater room to be dark! - Left mouse button broke after half year light usage

Handy gadget
4 Star Review   By guido238 on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Works as intended, but room for improvement. To use as home theater remote, it definitely should have a lighted keyboard. Also would have preferred bluetooth as the wireless interface. I also have a logitech dinovo mini, which I use more, because it has the two features mentioned above, but the logitech is seriously overpriced IMO. This keyboard is a reasonable alternative, if you can live without the lighted keyboard and have a free USB port.

Good multimedia accessory
4 Star Review   By arjay on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Weight

Weakness: pointer accuracy

The N5901 remote with keyboard is a nice piece, certainly more convenient than a full sized keyboard and mouse. The only drawbacks I can see is that the size of the ball makes the cursor move really fast, something that I wasn't able to correct with mouse settings. Also, it would be nice if the keyboard had a back light. This is a feature that was included on the really cheap mini touch pad/keyboard I replaced with this purchase.

This has been one of the handiest keyboard/ mouse combos I've ever used. It has been really easy, light weight and really a convenient companion. I am really glad I got this when I did. It is an absolute must for HTPC setups!!!

3 Star Review   By JNHD75 on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

does the job and it's small
4 Star Review   By ship on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight

Trackball works nicely when you adjust it a bit slower. Batteries last a long time, if it had a backlight the battery life would be dismal, everything is a trade-off. Feels good in the hand - it works my HULU and Netflix from the couch which is all I ask of it. Plugged it in and it worked - no fuss.

Good Wireless Mini Keyboard

5 Star Review   By enjocampos on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Weight, Storage, size

Great and convenient
4 Star Review   By purplepiggy on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Keyboard/peripherals

Weakness: no backlight

I used to have a wireless keyboard and mouse, not anymore. This product has replaced them both. Its small and easy to handle. It comes with a usb receiver thats so small, you could leave it plugged it in on a notebook. Its not without some flaws, you probably need two hands because the left and right click buttons are above the trackball. And sometimes the ball movements dont register exactly how I moved it. This could be a result of interference from my cordless phone which is also on the 2.4 ghz band. And I wish they made a backlight for the keys. Its hard to see if you turn down the lights to watch a movie.

Nice keyboard/mouse combo for the money
4 Star Review   By hectormuniz20 on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

The only thing I don't like about this keyboard is the trackball, it stays loose all the time making the mouse pointer move when you are typing something, and the other thing is there is no F's keys, no F4 or F1. For the price con find anything better than this keyboard, perfect size if you are going to keep it at your living room next to your TV or HTPC.

An excellent media center tool
5 Star Review   By ScishFottman on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

I was considering this device for quite some time for my media center pc, and when it went on sale, I purchased one. I have now owned it for 2 months, I can honestly say I don't know how I lived without it. This devise is NOT ideal for typing anything but the shortest of messages. The most difficult duty I subjected it to was instant messaging. I have large hands, and had more than a few mistakes as I got used to it. For browsing, it works well for address entry, and once you get used to the trackball, it does an excellent job, even if it does take some getting used to. One of the things I didnt expect, but was very surprised to see, is that the wireless connectivity is a true hardware solution - to wit, I can use the keyboard to access the bios. Very nice, and well not terribly necessary, still a good sign. The device does have two design flaws - No caps light to indicate that caps lock is on. frustrating when entering a password - No illumination for the keys, which is real downer if you are using it in the dark to watch a movie, and suddenly need to type. Other than those two flaws, the device is perfect. I would love to see lenovo release a device with a caps light and a backlit keyboard, albeit I do understand the potential battery drain of the back light. I am actually waiting for this to go on sale again so I can pick up a second one for my sister.

4 Star Review   By Xeni on LENOVO - Feb 16, 2011

Strengths: Weight, Keyboard/peripherals, use ease, size, eliminates cluter

Weakness: unable to view keyboard in the dark

My miniture keyboard/trackball mouse combination is the best multi-media gadget ever invented! I use it everyday to surf the net and quickly respond to emails from my livingroom big screen TV. My Lenovo keyboard/mouse combo fits in the palm of my hand. For texting I use both thumbs. Hope Lenovo engineers come up with a backlighted model for the next generation--need to turn on lights to use in the dark!

Very good, but...
4 Star Review   By UWATL on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Weight, Build Quality, battery life, operating range, overall usefullness

Weakness: no function keys, no backlight, mouse buttons hard to click, trackball travel

I use this for controlling my HTPC which is connected to my HDTV in the living room. Overall it's an excellent product, especially the build quality and finish, and how well it fits in your hand. It does what it's intended to do quite well. However, over time I've come to wish for a Version 2 with the following issues fixed... 1. Needs backlight. Watching movies or listening to music with the lights out you REALLY start wishing it had a backlight. 2. No function keys! This is a major annoyance when trying to switch between Fullscreen mode in your browser (F11) or close applications quickly (ALT+F4), or rename files (F2), or... you get the idea. Of course, this is not an issue if you're not a heavy Fn-key user like I am. 3. Hard mouse buttons. The mouse buttons need quite a bit off effort to click and feels uncomfortable after extended use. There are 'dead spots' that you need to avoid to make sure it clicks right. In my opinion, the resistance level on any Logitech mouse is just right and is my "reference point" 4. Trackball travel. The slightest movement of the keyboard itself sometimes sets off the trackball unintentionally. This is quite an annoyance when using Windows Media Center or Boxee as mouse movement causes the on-screen display to turn on. This could have been avoided by using one of those neat laser-tracking affairs you see on smartphones these days... easy for me to say I guess :-)

Great for PS3 and HTPC
4 Star Review   By Cuzzoni on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Works great with Sony PS3, just pop the receiver in the USB port and you have a full features keyboard, that is tiny. You can get rid of a full-size keyboard for you HTPC by using this as well. Great that it has an on/off switch too.

Meets most of my expectations
4 Star Review   By Bluntknife on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: keyboard buttons

Weakness: no backlighting, poor track ball

I got this multimedia keyboard for surfing the web and watching live streams on my big lcd tv and have been using it on and off for a month and a half. The keys are easy to use and even though i have big hands i never had any problems. The track ball mouse controls took some practice before i got the hang of it. The feature i really wish it had was back lighting. The built quality doesnt inspire confidence but it has survived some falls. Also the usb attachment is tiny and can be lost very easily if not attached at all times to a computer.

Best in it's genre
4 Star Review   By kbwoof15 on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Durability, Software compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Build Quality

Weakness: no backlight

this remote keyboard/mouse combo is by far the most superior in its class of devices. Any other keyboard/mouse combo handheld devices are poorly constructed and often break. This device is sturdy and well made. The only downside is that the trackball moves easily - so it can be difficult clicking things without moving the cursor - and that there is no backlight to the keyboard. If these were improved in a future version I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again.

Nice little keyboard
5 Star Review   By Alexio on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Weight, Security Features, Build Quality

Weakness: key positioning

I got this combo for exclusive use with WD TV Live. It does exactly what I wanted. The dongle was recognized at once after the restart and I have used it at ease to browse the internet resources (Yuotube, Deezer and such), provided by the latest version of WD firmware. There is some anecdotal evidence that it will work with B-Rad firmware as well. Trackball feels a bit awkward, but I never used this type of tracking before and at the end it does the job. Getting used to click buttons will take some time as well, as they are somewhat oddly placed. To give you idea of its size - the keyboard is the size of the slide-out of most common smartphones. Hard to rate the reliability, but it feels solid.

The little remote that could
4 Star Review   By Amaze713 on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Display performance

Weakness: Build Quality

The Lenovo remote is a little handheld wonder. I set up my spare laptop in my Multimedia Stand and connected it via HDMI cable to my 50 inch TV. Now I have a wireless keyboard and mouse if I want to work on powerpoint presentations or any lengthy typing assignments. However, the Lenovo remote is the little handheld remote that really shines. It is very intuitive, easy to use, and reliable. I often use it for browsing the web or watching online TV shows via netflix or major networks. For shortness of argument sake, let's just say it's perfect save for the following cons: The keys are a little too close together so you are bound to have mistyping and need to backspace every now and then. There is no backlighting, so you just need to be able to see the keys. The rollerball feels a little loose. When I first purchased it worked tighter, but sometimes the ball will roll but the mouse won't move or fully go the direction I need.

Works well in living room
4 Star Review   By PCTV on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Used it to control Mac Mini connected to TV in living room. It is very small and has good remote range. Obviously the tiny keys and track ball should not be used for typing long paragraphs. It is good enough to type web address, search key words etc.

Multimedia Remote
5 Star Review   By gist4you on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Input/Output compatibility, Weight, Security Features, Software compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals

This is the perfect device for armchair surfing. It lets you drive your PC from streaming video to screaming email without any interference with your "real life." What may be best is that this keyboard sits on your TV tray, favorite arm chair, or side table without offending your favorite interior decorator, or getting in the way of the magazine you are reading while watching the news feed from your PC.

MiniWireless Keyboard N5901
4 Star Review   By nate on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Keyboard/peripherals

It was better in terms of comfort and performance using the keyboard instead of the notebook touchpad. I could sit back and do what needed to be done without crouching over the notbook. My suggestion is to replace the trackball with a touch pad similar used on cell phones.

Average mini keyboard
3 Star Review   By liaoliao on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Design is neat, same layout as standard keyboard but with very small keys. The most problem is the reception of the device. After approx 5 meters, It only works for me at certain angle where my USB connector locates.

Perfect for multimedia Home Theatre PC - Q150!
5 Star Review   By DTRaleigh17 on LENOVO - Feb 15, 2011

Strengths: Battery, Weight, Durability

I use this remote every day. My Q150 is my primary source of entertainment, its connected via HDMI to my living room TV and this remote is perfect to control everything right from the couch! Very intuitive design, and easy to use! I wouldn't write a long email using the keyboard, but its great for searches and typing URLs. The track ball is easy to use with either thumb. I havent tested to see how far the range will go, but i've never had any issue sitting in my recliner in the opposite corner of the room. the battery is still going too, so thats good, and i never bother to switch off the remote.

Superb fro HTPC
5 Star Review   By smurfsriot on LENOVO - Dec 15, 2010

Pros -Perfect fit for any HTPC. The size is great and fits nice in large or small hands. I have my HTPC about 15 feet away from my couch and the USB dongle is in the rear of my case and the connectivity is flawless. I haven't had any issues with loss of connection. The mouse ball is smooth and very responsive. The overall design feels sturdy and should last quite some time even with mild abuse (dropping on floor, stuck in couch, etc.) cons - There are only two cons I have for this device. 1 - The keyboard does not illuminate nor do the keys have backlighting. This makes it very difficult to navigate in the dark if you are watching movies/tv/games at night. 2 - the layout does have a learners curve. To operate the mouse smoothly, you will need to use both hands (one for the ball, and one to click the "R" "L" buttons. The keyboard is at times a challenge also because the mouse ball is centered below it. Other thoughts - wait for this to go on sale (it does many times throughout any given month) After shipping I paid twenty bucks for it. At that price, it shouldn't even be a question as to whether or not you should purchase this. I would pay up to fifty bucks for this device. I would absolutely recommend this product for anyone who owns a HTPC.

2 Star Review   By QINSP on LENOVO - Oct 15, 2010

Excellent Plug-n-Play on Win7 Pro. Existing keyboard and mouse continue to work. Small footprint. However, there is no F1-F12 keys, or manual. Online manual was sparse, and did not note F-Key ability. No, the ALT+1 does not make a F1 key. It makes a "ding" sound only. I need the F-Key ability, so for me this is not usable.

serious design flaws for fast users
1 Star Review   By Eyan on LENOVO - Sep 16, 2010

Weakness: Support, poor customer support

If you are tech guy want to turn your TV into your monitor, mainly to watch videos and occasional texting, I seriously doubt if u will like it after a month of use. Pros: 1. Small 2. wireless(integrates with apple) cons: 1. Tiny keys 2. Too loose trackball(u move the keyboard) -This was the dealbreaker#1 3. No backlit( not helpful for video watching, even in slight dark) - dealbreaker#2 4. wrong position of trackball 5. Horondous service, if u do not like the product. (21 day return policy; sales, support, return dept are out of sync;20 min of wait time and problem resolution on phone takes wooping 70 minutes, with 4 different support phone nos, as they are not able to transfer !) Overall my product sastifaction satisfaction was low, but customer care experience made me take "Lenovo" out of my list of shopping destinations.

I had a problem with the trackball. It just horribly when trying to navigate the mouse onscreen. Dealing with Lenovo for a replacement has been a nightmare with making an initial call, waiting 3 days for a call back from a service department. I then wait another 2 days for another rep to call me and arrange to make a replacement invoice. Basically over 2 weeks and still no resultant in progress for a replacement. Good luck!

Excellent device
5 Star Review   By flynike on LENOVO - Aug 5, 2010

Strengths: Durability, Build Quality

I have nothing but good to say about this remote. It is extremely well made and solid feeling in the hand. One gets the sense that it will last for years. Of course the keys are small, but how not on a remote? The key combinations I use most often are relatively easy to strike. The fact is, that if you have a lot of typing to do, you need to employ a wireless keyboard. But for uses where a few keys need to be used, as in control-key or windows-key combinations, it works a charm. The trackball is surprisingly easy to use. Before purchasing this product, I was using a remote that "drifted" the cursor around with a rocker key. Since the resolution on my 37" TV is pretty high, text and file structures are small, and it was tough to get that "drifting" cursor to stop just where it had to. The trackball can position that cursor pretty exactly. Range is good for my living room, and sensitivity of the tiny, tiny sending unit is good. My computer box is behind the TV, and still I have no problem with control sync. With the wireless keyboard/mouse I sometimes use, and with the remote I used before, I had to allow the senders to "peek" out below or around the TV to be sure of constant sync contact. Not with this device, which has not failed in connection for a moment. If there is a feeling of wanting a bit more, it is only in wishing that the two-handed combinations of everyday computer using could be accomplished by one hand only. I use windows-E very often to bring up windows explorer to select movie or music files. That can't very well be done one handed; one needs to reach over with the left to the remote held in the right. Same for dragging items; one needs the one hand to hold down the left trackball key, while the other hand moves the trackball. This one movement may after all be do-able on this device with one hand. I am working on it, and getting a little better with it over time. In conclusion, this little remote has improved time spent with the media center computer a great deal. Very pleased with the purchase.

Perfect palmsize HTPC remote
5 Star Review   By gemini on LENOVO - Aug 2, 2010

Just got the remote. Fast shipping. Try it on my HTPC. Took me a minute to figure out where the USB dongle is. It is inside the remote. I guess I didn't read the manual. Good range (mine is about 8-10 ft) The trackball is a little sensitive but I quickly master it. Have all the keys that I need to control KMPlayer, my media player of choice. Can't think of any negatives.

Think before buying.
2 Star Review   By Arod on LENOVO - Jul 28, 2010

Theres lots of pros that have already been covered. But the downsides are too much to overcome. 1. No backlight. Black keys on black shell with no backlight renders the KB almost useless in anythign but bright lit environments. 2. The trackball is WAY too sensitive. No way to change this via software. Only through windows settings which are universal. Dont bother if you want to web browse. Youll be missing links and miss clicking all day. 3. No middle click/scroll wheel. All the actions a clickable scroll wheel give you are missing on this. Having to leave the trackball and find the dark arrow keys while browsing folders or webpages is counter intuitive. Even at the sale price its not worth it. Basically uselss for any day to day usage.

Bought 2. both miss kestrokes and have flaky range
2 Star Review   By Jonathon on LENOVO - Jul 21, 2010

Pro's long battery life decent feeling keys Con's no backlit keyboard more than 3feet away from dongle causes flaky operation. It keeps missing keystrokes and mouse movements. The keyboards layout and trackball usage is very awkward. If I could get my money back I would. bought two. Experienced issues with one and tried the other one with the same issues. flaky range and missing keystrokes/mouse movements gets very annoying very quickly. I have to be right next to the dongle for it to work. I have had this behavior with every pc I have tried. I am really disappointed.

5 Star Review   By BAD1234 on LENOVO - Jul 7, 2010

Weakness: Durability, Warranty

Be careful when buying this product, if it works, it's a very good product, if it doesn't work, they is replacement for it. Mine came defective and when I call the support center all they kept asking me is for a FRO #, that doesn't exist on the back or front of this product, then they say that without this FRO #, they can't do anything for you. I've only had this for a little over 2 weeks, so it's still under the supposed Warranty that pretty much doesn't exist on this product. so buy at your own risk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good looking, but lacks feature.
3 Star Review   By lambition on LENOVO - Jun 25, 2010

Strengths: Weight, Build Quality, range

Weakness: no shortchut keys, keyboard layout, mouse button

This keyboard looks nice, and has a good range. However, it lacks shortcut keys which many multimedia keyboards have. It would been great to have programmable shortcut keys which will allow running applications such as web browser and media center. It would also been great to have a button to shutdown windows. Another problem is mouse buttons are located right above the trackball. It is very easy to move trackball while trying to press the button, which will cause miss click. Also keyboard layout is square grid. This may cause typo to a people who are more used to regular keyboard layout.

It's about time!
5 Star Review   By Jerzee on LENOVO - Jun 4, 2010

Strengths: Weight, Battery, Software compatibility, Durability, Build Quality, convience

Weakness: sometimes awkward clicking the r/l mouse buttons.

I purchased this keyboard to replace another wireless keyboard. The computer that this keyboard is attached to is setup with our TV and is solely used for entertainment (streaming video/music, social networks and lite-browsing). This keyboard reminded my very much of my cell phone (raised keyboard, condensed QWERTY) and I felt it would be a good match for this computer. I only had one concern and that was whether or not the keyboard would function well on a Linux computer (bad past experience with other wireless keyboards). I plugged the keyboard's dongle into a the available USB port and the operating system discovered it and it works perfectly. Normally some of the media functions will not work with Linux, but everything on the keyboard functions like it should. I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone using it as a media/social/entertainment type of computer. If you are looking to use this keyboard for writing a paper or any "serious" type of use, then this is the wrong one. This keyboard is perfect for Social Network sites, chatting, IRC and general Internet browsing. Although the box does not state that this keyboard works with Linux, it does.

Worst Service Ever!
1 Star Review   By ChrisP on LENOVO - May 8, 2010

Weakness: Warranty, Support

I received a defective keyboard, the Q,A,Z,1,tab, and home keys on the keyboard did not function and I had to get a replacement. Good luck getting support for this model if something is wrong with it, I spent 3 hours on the phone with customer support, getting transferred to 6 different departments, none of which knew of this keyboard, or were able to support it... after talking to 8 or so different reps, I got to someone who could send me a replacement. I received a replacement which worked fine (the Chinese version shipped from China w/ Chinese text/not English on the box)... But guess what? No return slip to ship the defective one back. Called customer service again, and was told that the phone number AND return shipping address in TX is not where this model could be shipped back, even though thats the return info they provided me with the new keyboard I received. I will never order from Lenovo again! I like the keyboard, but DO NOT order unless you are sure it will work right out of the box!

Great gadget
5 Star Review   By fatuous on LENOVO - May 6, 2010

Strengths: Build Quality

Weakness: Keyboard/peripherals, no backlight

Great device for the price. I have a Microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard that works over infrared. I've never been very happy with it. It requires line of site between the keyboard and the infrared receiver, so it frequently misses key presses, and the eraser-tip style mouse is awful. I was looking at allot of different wireless keyboards including the Logitech DiNovo Mini. When I need to do real maintenance on my HTPC, I use Remote desktop from another PC with a proper monitor, keyboard, and mouse. But sometimes I just need to do something simple from my couch like ALT-TAB or type in a URL, etc. This is a great product. I haven't had a lost key press yet, and the trackball works perfectly. The little USB receiver dongle fits under the battery cover which is a nice touch. As other reviewers have noted, the keyboard layout could be much better, should include more differentiated arrow keys for example, should support function keys, and should include a backlight for the keyboard. But for the price I paid with a coupon, I definitely got my money's worth. And since I paid so much less than the DiNovo Mini, I have plenty left over to buy the 2.0 version of this product which will hopefully add features, provide better key placement, size, and layout, and include back lighting. This is a great value for the money with the coupon, and I can recommend it easily. Just be aware of what this product can and can't do before buying.

Excellent Choice
5 Star Review   By Purav on LENOVO - Apr 19, 2010

So I read a lot of the reviews before buying this product, and for someone who is a text fanatic, I would say this was the best gadget I have purchased in a while. I hooked to the computer that would be connected to the Home Theater System permanently. The best part is, I most just have to use the mouse to play movies, or music, and it works like a charm. There is a function key which allows you to bypass pressing three keys like Ctrl+alt+del. One item that might have helped, is if the keyboard was back lit... would have been much easier to read when watching movies in the dark, and suddenly you need to pause it and check your email or something. Other than that... very good value for the price.

ALMOST PERFECT.... ALMOST!
4 Star Review   By JonInLosAngeles on LENOVO - Apr 15, 2010

Strengths: Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Weight, Durability, Build Quality

Weakness: Keyboard/peripherals

Finally found just what I was looking for at a reasonable price. Works GREAT on windows Vista Basic CON: (pay attention Lenovo) THE KEYBOARD NEEDS A BACK LIGHT! The keyboard is exactly like a high end Smart Phone (the types vary, and I would not choose a flat keyboard like this one - but many people do). PROBLEM - On a phone, there is always some light reflecting from the screen onto the keyboard. The keyboard on this otherwise FABULOUS product is next to impossible to see unless you are in a very well lit room. Having no screen attached (like mobile phones do) makes a HUGE difference in being able to use the keyboard at all. The keys have no tactile fell or way to use without looking at the small, flat close together keys. PRO: The negative opinions about the left and right button being above and not below are not very accurate. Yest they are above, HOWEVER .... INGENIOUS they extend outward and to the side .... making the very very top narrow portion extremely sensitive to touch to push, which increase pressure required the farther your finger is from the top center. IT'S GREAT. You may be navigating precisely, in which case the light touch is perfect, or if you are jumping around, you can give a really hard squeeze like push to a very large area to get the click you want (right or left). ALL IN ALL - GET THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT A WIRELESS TRACKBALL! LOVE IT! NOTE: On Firefox there are addons that give you the ability to have the scroll ball gestures do commands like "open link in new tab" or "save as" .... and a couple others that make up for the lack of a scroll wheel on this device.

Nice Remote
4 Star Review   By DIYguy on LENOVO - Apr 2, 2010

Strengths: size, range, volume and media control keys

Weakness: non-standard keyboard layout, keys not back lit, trackball could be more snug

This replaced a wireless keyboard/mouse for my home theater pc. The combo keyboard/trackball in one small unit is very convenient. Range is excellent. Keyboard (not including trackball extension) is about the size of an average smart phone. Keys are small, but that's to be expected in a full keyboard this size. The remote has a few inconveniences, but for me, they are not deal-breakers. The keyboard keys are not back lit, so they're a little difficult to see in the dark (I have good vision, no glasses/contacts) They are also stacked in-line vertically (not offset like a regular keyboard) so it will take some getting used to in order to identify them by position. The trackball is not seated very snugly so on occasion, when you move the pointer over an item and you lift your finger off the trackball, the mouse pointer may shift slightly and no longer be on the item you were about to click on. This is relatively easy to adjust to, but it would be nice if the trackball was a little more snug. The remote has convenient media control keys across the top. From left to right: My Computer (the orange button, which is not programmable) Volume Down Volume Up Mute Previous (doesn't scrub/scan) Stop Play/Pause Next (doesn't scrub/scan) I tested the multimedia control buttons (mentioned above) in several media programs. Some buttons didn't work in some media players but you can always use the trackball. Media Players Tested: Windows Media Center (all buttons work) Windows Media Player 11 (all buttons work) VLC 4.2.1 (only volume buttons work) KMPlayer 2.9.4.1435 (Previous/Next buttons don't work) Boxee 0.9.20.10711 (only volume buttons work) Finally, there is a very low profile on-off switch on the bottom to save battery life. In all, this is a very nice remote and a very convenient replacement for a full sized keyboard.

best remote for HTPC
5 Star Review   By homeboy on LENOVO - Mar 24, 2010

I have been shopping around for a practical and convenient remote control for my home theater PC for a while. this Lenovo remote definitely is the winner. I was surprised how small and light it was and even though it may look a little odd in the picture, it is actually very ergonomical in your hand. I think the closest competitor is the Logitech diNovo, whose design is not as good as this Lenovo and it's twice as expensive! I would have given 5 stars on the feature if it had backlighting on the keyboard. but this is your best deal for sure.

Not what I expected
1 Star Review   By TPark on LENOVO - Mar 18, 2010

Weakness: usability, product design

I was looking for a multi-function remote of sorts that I could keep by my bed to play media or chat on my tv that's connected to my pc. This appeared to be the perfect product - a trackball so I don't have to worry about mouse tracking on any surfaces and a keyboard I could use to chat. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed once I actually used the product. The trackball is difficult to use with one hand and virtually impossible if you want to drag something on the screen - this limitation proved to be more frustrating than I could have ever imagined. Also, the keyboard does not light-up so it's very difficult to use in a dark room. After a couple weeks of trying to get used to it, I had to return it. I didn't appreciate the fact that Lenovo's policy is to charge a 15% restocking fee AND shipping. In the age of superior service from e-tailers such as Amazon, I doubt I'd ever deal with Lenovo again - for both product design and return policy.

I have a PC to TV connection for the purpose of watching movies and surfing the web on my TV. Needed a remote to control my PC, and voilà! The remote was very easy to install; OS detected the hardware and automatically installed the driver. Been using the remote for two weeks now with no problems and am very happy with it. Lenovo did a great job designing the layout of the multimedia and convenience keys. My only gripe is that the function keys are not on the keyboard; a factor if you're a big user of the function keys. Also, it would be a great addition to see this remote with the keyboard lit up for when navigating in the dark. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that has a PC to TV connection and is looking for a remote.

Bought this to use with my computer/lcd tv set up. Works great, easy to use, solidly built. Much better than other wireless keyboard setups I have tried.

HTPC Media Server/Client Remote for Windows 7
5 Star Review   By coolheadal on LENOVO - Mar 4, 2010

Strengths: Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Software compatibility, Durability, Build Quality, perfect

Weakness: roller is too free movement

Best item ever! Easy to use and has on and off switch too. No drivers needed under Windows 7 Ultimate. I was able to use the product with SageTV Media Center Server via HDMI 1080P AMD Quad Core connected to my Sharp 46" LCD 1080P HDTV. Navigation was easy. The roller ball excellent and it does have a red glow where the roller is house at night. The keys don't light-up though. But volume, play pause, stop, skip FF/RW everything you need for your Windows 7 MCE or SageTV MCE. I am ordering a second one to use with a wireless netbook running SageTV Client connected via VGA to HDTV. No issues with it! My first one looks so futuristic and everyone wants one too!

AWEsomness...in all of its tiny-ness!!!
4 Star Review   By MGtheVisionary on LENOVO - Mar 2, 2010

Strengths: Keyboard/peripherals, Software compatibility

Weakness: Weight

Love it. was about to drop $280 for a software a specific remote and a micro keyboard to conserve some desktop real estate. I'm a musician and a studio producer so space and control of applications and gear are paramount. I ran across this little gem 4hrs ago and now its in my studio and I am typing online reviews with it in my greedy little hands! Form factor- No, its not the best qwerty layout ever...that would be the keyboard on my phone (HTC Touch Pro 2) so I would know. It will take some time to play catchup on the physical side for Lenovo. 1) The bottom row has me constantly mis-typing "M,N, and ." but thats just some conditioning to get used to. 2) Also, the way it almost feels more natural to hold it flipped around with the trackball to the front. If you're used to texting and slide-out phones you most likely agree. 3) I wish it could be a little more heavy to give it a more sturdy feel and surface around the trackball is a magnet for fingerprints. Overall- It has only been a cpl hrs but the out of the box tests I have performed tell me that unless the structural quality and Rf signal weaken and/or degrade over time...this may be a hard deal to beat! The form factor issues are minute at best. This remote is the shiiiiiiiiizzzzzzz!

Off Da Chain
5 Star Review   By PumpkinEscobar on LENOVO - Feb 19, 2010

Love the size and keyboard. Works perfect and the range is awesome. My equipment is behind a wall and this works through that! I got this on promotion for $41 and it arrived 3 days later! I'd buy another one but the promo ended. I'll keep my eyes open for another deal like this. A must buy for entertainment pcs.

Solid HTPC remote
4 Star Review   By WhoDat on LENOVO - Feb 18, 2010

Strengths: Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Weight, Battery, Software compatibility, Durability, Build Quality

Looks good much smaller than i thought. If you can use a phone keyboard you can use this thing with ease. The setup is nothing just plug in the tiny and i do mean tiny adapter and turn on computer and it works. Great range and even an on off switch for batttery savings. Only reason its not a 5 star is no back lighting not even an option. That and a scroll wheel would make this perfect.

Great concept but needs revision
2 Star Review   By momobond on LENOVO - Feb 5, 2010

Strengths: Keyboard/peripherals, Weight, Build Quality, great concept/potential, nice range

Weakness: horrible layout, no backlight, trackball does not click / function as left click

I had purchased this mouse/keyboard combo for home media and surfing purposes. I had thought that the trackball would be clickable like a blackberry. Moreover while using the trackball trying to click on the left click is just plain awkward and the right completely unusable. And because the left mouse button is very limited to the area right on top left corner of the trackball, my left thumb has to extend all the way in just to click it. I also thought it to be a light-up keypad as cellphones have. Yes the battery life may worsen however these days with LED technology it shouldn't that hard of a task. Range and accuracy is very good though- I have no problems using it from a good 10 feet away. Nice placement for multimedia buttons and volume as well. Another feature that should be added is a scroller wheel maybe implemented into the edge of the pad. The page up down is on the right side of the pad and is just horrible to use all while trying to navigate with the trackball and left click. I really wanted to love this and was so excited that I found it however it was a huge let down. There's so much potential here.. just needs a revised layout and features.

my own opinion
4 Star Review   By andy197x on LENOVO - Jan 25, 2010

Strengths: Weight

To be honest, I was the top 400 users to buy this product with a coupon 1st, excuse me if you find me nagging too much This thing just need to work a little bit harder on the keyboard mapping the arrow keys are not built to be easy to find and press, no Function key at the top like F1 (help), F2.... the "E" button is hard to type with after 2-3weeks I have to hold it down all the way even though I know i clicked on it to make it response I like the Fn+Enter= Ctrl+Alt+Del...I was l0Ling for a while... this thing is small enough that I have to concentrate on the keyboard for letter to lettA just like txting, but that's okay since I use it as a media center controller and presentations for the most of use Moreover, the trackball is too hollow to roll (mobility-wise, yes its good) but just lack of a feeling to roll a track ball, I cannot roll this ball too fast or else it will skips, if it was made a bit solid for a trade off of weight increase, I will still buy it ooo, here's a thought for improvement, I need a middle scroll button for the mouse so I can skim through my stuff Overall, I will rate it 8.5 out of 10 for the use of a small wireless keyboard/mouse. the points was subtracted from the improvements that I'm looking for Recommended for most of the people who search for a small wireless keyboard and mouse to use

Near Perfect
5 Star Review   By Hobknoblin on LENOVO - Jan 22, 2010

Strengths: Weight, Software compatibility, Durability

I love this controller. It works out of the box with my WinXP, Win7, Ubuntu, and Mac OSX machines. Even the media buttons work across platforms. It feels good in your hand and looks good on your coffee table. The controller powers up/down easily with a switch on the back and has a slot to store the usb dongle in the battery compartment. The keys have a very satisfying click and a good layout. The trackball feels a little cheap, but works well. It takes a few swipes to get across my 52" of desktop real estate. (I would have preferred a Trackpoint, but you can't have everything.) A third/middle button might have been nice as well. I have it connected to a Macbook that is temporarily connected to my new TV until I get my HTPC up and running. It allows me to wake the Mac from sleep with the keyboard remote. For a couch keyboard/HTPC controller, you would be hard pressed to find anything close to as perfect for anywhere close to the price (i.e. the Logitech diNovo Mini at $140 which just doesn't speak to me).

Fantastic product at a great price
5 Star Review   By Misfit410 on LENOVO - Jan 20, 2010

Strengths: Input/Output compatibility, Keyboard/peripherals, Software compatibility, Durability, Build Quality

Weakness: availibility

For my media center I've been through all of the low-midrange wireless mouse and keyboard options, None of them would work well beyond 4-5 feet from the receiver, and I did not want to pay the big bucks for one that would. I really did not nave the table space for something that big around the TV, so when I saw this on Gizmodo it was love at first sight. I ordered immediately, though sadly it seems like it took an extremely long time for this product to arrive, but it was worth the wait. It's small and compact, very sturdy build quality, has all of the keys one would need on a normal keyboard though the placement of a few will take a bit of getting used to. The trackball is very responsive and smooth, you will need to get used to the two thumb action to be as effecient as a normal mouse+keyboard but I got the swing of it fairly quickly. I took it for the ultimate test this morning, a presentation in a large computer lab, the computer is at the back of the room a solid 30 feet from where I was standing at the front, there was no notible loss of signal or delay at all, this thing performed like a champ and I'm going to start pushing others to invest in one in place of other solutions that have been seeking that cost 10X more than this device. Overall it is what it is, simply looking at it you know if it's what you are looking for or not, a simple and portable solution/replacement for wireless M+K, I use it everywhere now.

Great Choice
5 Star Review   By Xeni on LENOVO - Jan 19, 2010

Strengths: Keyboard/peripherals, Wireless card, Weight, Battery, Build Quality

I bought this for a HTPC i'm building in hopes of getting a quality product that would work for me. That's exactly what I got. It seems very well made and thought out. Small but not too small. USB dongle (very small) can be stored behind the battery cover. Came with two Energizer AAA batteries in very nice Apple like packaging. Love the power switch as well. It is well worth the money. Also worked with my Mac which is a plus. You can tell it was made for Windows as Fn+Enter will send the Ctrl+Alt+Del command.

This is a GREAT HTPC remote
5 Star Review   By Angie on LENOVO - Jan 6, 2010

Strengths: nice compact design

Weakness: no space between keyboard keys

Purchased this for half price with a coupon code, but I definitely think this is worth even the full price. Its cheaper than the diNovo, and has a great design. I bought 4, and they each run a different signal so they don't interfere with each other at all, which is nice. The remote is fairly light, but does not feel cheap or flimsy at all. It works very well, no lag. I tested it on Windows, Mac and Ubuntu and it worked great on all of them. I have yet to see how the battery life is, haven't had it long enough, but I'm not too worried about it since you can turn it off. The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the keyboard portion, it is very thin and tapered on the edges. I would have liked it to be more flat so that I could have a better hold on it to type faster. Individual buttons with some space in between (more like a cell phone qwerty) would make typing a bit easier. Overall though, it is a great little HTPC remote and I look forward to surfing with it from my couch.
