5 Star Review   By psichlopse on Provantage (Channel Engine) - Feb 27, 2007

Strengths: Macros The 4 shifts are badass. . . gives you 4 different key sets that you can quickly change between comfortable as all hell

Weakness: Not wireless.

ZOMFG, I couldn't live without it. I mostly play City of Heroes. I love the macro funtionality because I can set up an individual keypress to activate power up powers and combat sequences. I can even invite my favorite players. example: shift set one: Travel powers and invites for friends shift set 2: normal movement and power up buttons shift set 3: offensive attack macros shift set 4: afk macros (I can set my toon to follow another and use kinetics to power up group, or lend a hand with attacks. . . macros can be looped)

Belkin N52 Not supported for Mac's
2 Star Review   By NPEWAA on OnSale.com - Dec 24, 2006

Strengths: It's functionality is good with good form and feel.

Weakness: Unfortunately the driver is 3+ years old and has some major hang ups whether using the device for games or a multifunction keypad. Belking has not created a Mac Universal.

When Tiger 10.4.6 came out and its associated security updates the OLD Belkin drivers have a number of hang ups and problems. Belkin has no schedule for a Mac Universal driver and their website shows only Wintel stuff. It is evident that they are not concern with supporting the Mac platform and do not want to help Mac Users. I will be going back to the 15 key and throwing the Belkin product away. I will not be purchasing Belikn products unless they are the only choice left.

Strengths: great to use when working

Weakness: no current drivers for the mac pro intel chipsets

the n52 worked great on my old quad G5, but with my recent upgrade to the new mac pro the device will not work. Belkin has no support for the new macs yet either, but hopefully in time I can use my investment again and start winning at my games again.

Great controller / but poor quality
4 Star Review   By stylepts on Provantage (Channel Engine) - Jun 28, 2006

Strengths: This truly is the most ergonomic controller for gaming. Easy learning curve, great software, makes keyboard control very intuitive and fast.

Weakness: Build quality is poor.

I received my N52 after just two business days - very fast shipping. I played about 5 hours of BF2 today and this controller has already helped me double my performance in my favorite FPS because it increases efficiency so much. No more looking for keys in the heat of battles. Thing is, the mouse wheel already stopped working! The quality of this device is very suspect. At first it feels decent, but the buttons may not last long with normal wear. At $20 you get what you pay for. As effective as this device is, I'd have paid $50 for high quality workmanship. It's too bad they went the cheap routs but I guess they wanted to sell in volume. I'm only giving this 4 stars because I would indeed buy this again because it's so affordable and I bet I will have to in a couple months! Really it deserves 3 stars for poor quality however.

Best thing to gaming for me yet!
5 Star Review   By member jgladieux - Jan 2, 2006

Strengths: Layout of keys and scroll wheel are satisfactory for my hands (size 9 to 10 glove size),over all size is better than the N50 I previously had, palm rest feels better.

Weakness: They could have made it more heavier I tend to move it around in all the excitement of gaming...LOL but velcro does the trick. It does have more weight then the N50.

This is a big improvement over the N50 which I had previously owned, I broke the D pad on my N50 so It gave me an excuse to by this one and I have never been more happier. Belkin replaced my N50 with their life time warranty no problems and it now sits in my gaming closet as a backup to the N52 but so far I have not needed to use it. I would love to see them come out with a model with illuminated keys like the Saitek Pro Gamer Command Pad www.saitek.com/uk/prod... and depending on reviews of that product, it might be the only thing I replace the N52 with. Time will tell, but for now there is nothing out there better for me than the N52. In closing I also wanted to mention that the buttons will loosen up with use, even the orange one above the D pad.

Speedpad Nostromo n52
5 Star Review

Strengths: can play for hours without hand cramping up easy to program thumb controls add to number of actions that are immediately available

Weakness: needs a little more weight to keep the base from moving around

I have owned 2 n50 speedpads and now the n52. The layout of the controls definitely creates an advantage in 1st person shooter games. There are significant number of profiles available from Belkin but it is so easy to create new ones or create copies of your favorites that I don't get many online.

Gaming Automatic Transmission
5 Star Review   By member jmiles82 - Sep 29, 2005

Strengths: Ability to combine multiple mouse clicks into single keystroke

Weakness: none so far

I play a World of Warcraft Undead Priest. Before I purchased the controller, I had a total of eight keystrokes/mouse clicks that must be entered to complete a fight. Each cast required that I monitor a cast bar and then locate the next spell, click on it, watch the castbar, etc. This would lead to frustration in surprise encounters. Lost time fumbling for spells and inefficient casting are a deadly combination in World of Warcraft. The controller allows you to fine-tune the sequence of casts down to 1/100 of a second. This precision improves gameplay immencely. Highly recommend this controller.

2 Star Review   By member jdwilkins3 - Apr 4, 2004

Strengths: Well constructed with a solid feel and doesnot move at all during heavy game play, yet is compact and does not require a lot of desk space. Installation and use of the profile software was easy.

Weakness: The keys tend to be stiffer than a regular keyboard, and some stick during prolonged game play.

Overall I like the concept and give it a Five star rating, but then there is not much else on the market to compare it with. Belkin was of no help when I contacted them about the sticking keys, except to suggest that I contact the retailer (YesMicro.com)about a replacement, who informed me that they didnot offer replacements. I would not rate either Belkin or YesMicro very high in regards to customer service.

4 Star Review   By member m_latou - Mar 18, 2004

Strengths: Well designed, comfortable to grasp and very programmable

Weakness: not as intutive as it seems at first, takes some time to adjust to using it.

I purchased this speedpad based on a recommendation from PC Magazine, I haven't been able to use it a great deal (need a better computer) but from what I've been able to use it on, it seems like it could be very good for a lot of newer games, I did find that the directional pad is a little akward to use at first, since even though you expect it to operate like it does, I wasn't quite adjusted to using that vice the arrow keys. Overall, though I think it will turn out to be quite useful

4 Star Review   By member zetto - Mar 8, 2004

Strengths: Very quick to learn, and provides excellent options for creating macros. It has plenty of keys all within the reach of your hand; tough, long-lasting construction.

Weakness: Keys are somewhat tough to press (compared to a regular keyboard, and the software does not offer the recording of mouse movement, or at least extra mouse buttons (like back/forward ones)

Great, easy to use. Takes a little bit of time to get used to it but once done, it's hard to go back to a keyboard. Keys need some breaking in, but still very responsive. The best part is creating various macros and using shift states for multiple key assignments - you can actually use nostromo n52 instead of your regular full-sized keyboard if you wish and have time to assign all keys and remember them. Also very ergonomic - no need to more your hand too much, avoiding all those keyboard-related syndromes. By all means, if you are playing games, this keypad is a godsend solution for improving your fragging skills :)

Strengths: Easy to use, lots of buttons, comfortable.

Weakness: Cumbersome

I bought this looking for something to play FPS's with. I works great for that purpose. Instead of fumbling around with a keyboard, you have everything you need right at your finger tips. The software that comes with it is easy to use and takes very little to get used to. It is fairly large and with a lot of people's desk space limited it could be a problem. Overall, if you're looking for something to replace your keyboard when playing games, this is a good choice.

Strengths: great for games and other activities (browsing internet, copy and pasting etc)

Weakness: scroll wheel position is not far enough

use it for playing halo; use the direction pad to replace "asdw" button; love it; the problem: scroll wheel is too close to my palm, I have to bend my finger alot and it is not comfortable; if belkin can change the scroll wheel position next to the button #10, it will be perfect.

Strengths: 14 Programmable Buttons! Wheel w\switch! 8-directional gamepad! Right hand still available for mouse, food or drink!

Weakness: Now if they only made it cordless!

I always wanted to get a n50 but could never find it in the stores around here! I'm glad I had to wait. The Nostromo n52 SpeedPad is awesome. You can program anything you need in it and it's right there. No more taking your eyes off of the screen to find F9 or [ keys, just program them into the SpeedPad! Makes gaming way easier. If I was any good at playing FPSs in the first place, this would definitely help me win online:P JK.

Strengths: Very flexable key layouts ,well constructed

Set up the unit , install a snap, key programming very simple and quick. A little tricky to get used to but have seen an improvement in mobility and speed in play. Expect to see a bigger improvement after greater use

Strengths: More buttons than the N50! Separate shift key too.

Weakness: Bigger size takes a little getting used to.

Mine does not have the sticky key problem I have read about. Works great and the extra buttons really help out. In BF1942 the more buttons you have the better. The best FPS gaming controller made!

Strengths: Design, appearance, comfortable feel; anti-skid pad a plus; good price

Weakness: Orange thumb button tough to press; use soft touch keys instead of current key type

I think that this device is a great idea for the serious gamer. It makes it easier to navigate your player as well as different player configurations you may need. I would recommend this to any gamer.

5 Star Review   By member spike595 - Jan 25, 2004

Strengths: Easy to customize using included software, has all keys you could possibly want, comfortable, fast learning curve.

Weakness: As with everyone else, the red button is hard to press, button 15( the "space" bar below the D pad)is a little hard to press and may be hard to reach with small hands.

Im a FPS gamer saw this and had to have it. Had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. Most of the keys have a defult setting that most people would be happy with. The editing software for setting up custom layouts is extremely easy to use. To use a custom layout you must launch the game from the loadout software. At first I didn't like that but now have all my games set up under it so now it makes it easier to start up games. Once you learn key setup it's so easy to use. I haven't had a problem with any keys sticking, at all. And i've used up to six at one time(just to test it). All in all it's worth every penny I spent for it, besides it looks cool sitting on the desk.

Strengths: only the buttons you need for gaming, you can easily customize the buttons as you wish or use the default settings, much better for pc gaming than the keyboard or other devices

Weakness: span from the finger controlled keys to the thumb controlled buttons may not suit everyone

This thing is awesome! It is so much better than using the keyboard it isn't funny. The keys are well spaced, intuitive, and I love the fact I don't have to search all over the keyboard to use a command in the middle of a frag fest. I'd rather jump in and start playing a game and the fact it is so easy to customize is a bonus. For everyone tired of using the keyboard for gaming, this is your device.

5 Star Review   By member Darkonus - Jan 20, 2004

Strengths: * Every key/button/wheel direction/wheel button/8-way thumb pad - ALL Programable * Very Sturdy with rubber grip underside * Easy Install * Very Good Software * Comfortable if your hand fits correctly

Weakness: * Orange thumb button is stiff to push * mouse style wheel feels cheap when turned * Palm rest may not fit everyone's hand size * Learning curve for memorization of keys is harder than keyboard *

A MUST have for any hard-core 1st person gamer, bar-none! Mapped keys/buttons galore make it a gamers dream for any keyboard style game, or any application with lots of features that require multiple repetitive keystrokes. Everything is programmable as single keystrokes, multi-key macros, mouse buttons, and even Direct Input buttons or x-y axis. Much better controller than its smaller brother the N50. The N52, using all its programmable aspects and saving one key/button to switch between the 4 key sets you can program into it, the N52 actually has 104 programmable functions possible, or 26 separate functions*4modes. 15(keys)+8(direction pad)+2(1 thumb button,1 mouse button)+2(mouse wheel forward & backward)- and every one of them can be programmed. Programming each button can be slow, but once you're done, and once you've memorized your profiles for each game or application, the N52 will show how invaluable it is, and why it's worth every nickel paid for it! I recommend this HIGHLY to any gamer, as it makes gaming that usually utilizes a keyboard, much easier and much more enjoyable while using the N52. I found that the 14 top keys are all easy to reach. The thumb pad is great, but takes some getting used to because of the fact that most people are used to game pads and a thumb pad that sits horizontal, rather than vertical. My hand sits comfortable on it, and its non-slip underside keeps it where you put it! I'm extremely glad I upgraded from the Belkin N50 to the new N52.

Strengths: Well built, very versital.

Weakness: Not perfect

This controller is great so far. I had the N50 but knew I wanted the extra buttons, well worth the buy. I like the new orange rubber pad that covers the bottom complete. And the new function of the scroll wheel should prove nice, it should be noted that you can assign separate functions to wheel up or wheel down... I dont have any sticky key problems like others say. And even if you did id imagine just some TLC would take care of that. The new Orange button is a bit hard to press, but its new and its orange and serves its own purpose as a 'make sure you mean it' button. the new thum/space button is a bit ackward so far, but it will come in to its own im sure. Well worth the buy.

I thought I could use more keys than my old n50 and this is it. I have had the n50 for over 2 years with no problems. Now if only Belkin can use better keys or some type of lubricant on them so they don't stick at all, it would be perfect. Nothing worse than using an controller at this level of game play and loosing to a sticky key. I still have to contact them for some type of remedy. All in all? I would recommend it highly over a keyboard, your game will get much better. 8.5 out of 10

Strengths: Great fit on my hand, programmable for all applications -not just games, and easy to use.

Weakness: Takes some getting used to, and the number 15 button (below the D-pad) gets stuck on occassion.

Overall, I like this device because I use an Apple Macintosh Powerbook G4, and playing 1st person shooters on it gives me wrist pain when using the standard WASD controls for movement. This little device helps reduce that pain, and its quite fun to use, especially with the programmable buttons ...macros are great!

Strengths: Only the buttons you need. Looks awesome. Fully programmable.

Weakness: Somewhat of a learning curve.

I would reccomend this item to anyone that is serious about first person shooters. I used the older version, and this one is very similar. but with all the buttons you will ever need. Definitely worth the money.

Strengths: Comfortable Non-skid Rubber covering the entire bottom Great drivers offer huge flexibility to setup controls for games or other software

Weakness: The orange button is stiff, I hope it will get easier to push in time, but mostly I don't use it.

When I started playing games I had the microsoft strategic commander, it wasn't fast enough for FPS. I then moved to the Belkin N50 shortly after it came out. My frags sky rocketed! The N50 is a great product, I had to put mine on a non-skid surface, glad to see they have improved that. Recently my N50 got a short in the cable, called belkin, sent it back to them, and got a new one in a week. Then I found a great deal on the N52 and bought it. It's great to have more keys, although the 4 keys at the bottom are not "easy" to get to, they are great for functions that you don't use every second during a game. I highly recommend the product to any serious gamer... The comfort keeps your hand and arm from hurting, even during those 2 day long LAN parties. I still use a small gel mouse wrist rest on the back, as it's softer than the plastic, but it's not necessary, just my preference.

Strengths: Excellent positioning of keys, very convenient to rapidly change weapons, positions etc. Sturdy and well built to last long.

Weakness: None.

I was looking for a condensed collection of keys that would permit me to quickly access various weapons, maps etc and this was the ticket. It improved my speed, accuracy and reaction time exponentially. I'd be lost without it now!

Strengths: Enough buttons, comfortable, mouse wheel, D-Pad

Weakness: Can be difficult to get used to, not adjustable

The Belkin N52 Speedpad is a great add-on for gamers, especially for players of 1st person shooters. Instead of using WSAD for your left-hand controlls, you use this pad now. It is confortable and much easier to use than a bulky keyboard. The software that comes with it makes it easy to set up controlls for any game (or even any application!) - I definitely recomend the speedpad!

Strengths: Durability, quality of construction, ease of use, versatility.

Weakness: Stiff black keys, hard orange key, minor software issue.

I'll break my review into a few sections of salient points. 1. Keys and buttons. Black keys: (9/10) All of very solid construction, all look to be very durable. However, they are stiff before broken in. This is only a minor issue. Thumb keys: (9/10) The orange button above the D-Pad is excellently placed for certain uses, but is a little hard to press. As for the D-Pad itself, it is well designed and easy to use and use properly. As for the "space" key on the bottom of the pad, I found it to be too far away to use effectively, but it works for less common functions. Throttle/wheel: (7/10) This wheel is large, easy to move, and easy to use. However, its main fault (and a large one, in my humble opinion) is that it is out of the way and difficult to use. General shell and outsides: (10/10) The layout is very intuitive and optimized for use. Everything is firmly attached to the pad, even the adjustable wrist rest and keyboard keys. Overall, the pad wouldn't break if dropped, and seems to be pretty durable. 3. Software and use: (9/10) Using the software, you'll find that you can map any key on the keyboard to any key, button, wheel function, or D-Pad direction. There are essentially 4 times the number of assignable keys on the keyboard w/shift states. Finally, the Nostromo can handle up to SIX buttons being held simultaneously. Overall: (9/10) This pad is incredible and is a pleasure to use.

Strengths: Good build quality, very comfortable, works with any game due to keyboard emulation, doesn't take long to get familiar with.

Weakness: The red button above d-pad requires more pressure to click then I would like. If you don't load a profile and just use it as a keyboard I had some games not see it till I loaded a "blank" profile.

When I first got the n52 I was lazy and was just using it as a "keyboard." I thought it was ok then, but sometimes went back to my normal keyboard setup when the action got intense as I was more familiar with it or didn't have enough buttons. However, once I started to make my own custom configs for games the true power of the n52 shows. Granted it takes some time to learn your configs for various games, but once you do -- watch out! Programming macros for such things as radio commands in Battlefield is great. No need to take fingers off WASD setup at all. I would recommend this for any avid FPS fan.

Strengths: 15 keys to program, more functions for the thumb, entire bottom is no-slip grip. Better programming software.

Weakness: Install instructions aren't concise. lower row of keys difficult to reach sometimes.

Wow what a difference! Had the n50, upgraded. Now I am even more dangerous than before. The n52 will take your gaming to the next level, guaranteed! Thank you Belkin for listening to your customers and making improvements.

Strengths: Solid construction. Everything that you need at one hand. Non-skid bottom.

Weakness: No lefties.

I just got my n52 after having the n50 for quite sometime and I already love the thing. After playing with the n50 I did not think that I would need or want anything else. Now that I have the n52 I do not want to go back. First off I updated my n50 drivers a few weeks ago so when I got the n52 all I had to do was unplug the n50 and plug the n52 in. As for the profile the profile editor can import your old profile so all you have to do is add the little changes that you want. No need to re-map every key and no need to learn a new set up, very cool. I was playing in less than 10 min. After some play time I really like having the extra buttons available, the thumb button above the pad was enough for me to buy the n52. If this is new for you buy one you will not regret it. If you already have a n50 the n52 is well worth the upgrade.

5 Star Review   By member AlphA202 - Nov 17, 2003

Strengths: Everything a person that usually uses keyboard for left hand pay could ever want.

Weakness: Nothing. It has everything I wished the n50 had.

I liked the n50 a lot but I LOVE the n52! It's extremely responsive and the placement of every key is very well though out. I wasn't sure if they could improve on the 50 but the 52 really is even better. Very solid feel. The bottom is virtually ALL non slip rubber. Very very stationary. In addition to adding things, they've improved some of the old. The throttle now works like a mouse wheel, rather than limiting your motions as in the 50. The buttons have more bounce to them and are very responsive and solid. The entire unit feels heavier than the 50. Again, stable. It's even functional outside of gaming. Wheel, UP,DOWN keys and scroll wheel button are great for net surfing... I could go on and on. Just go out and give it a shot. Even if you use a friend's, I'm sure you'll fall in love with it. I have.

Strengths: 4 Extra keys plus 2 extra buttons Vs. Original n50

Weakness: 3 keys would stick right out of the box, red button does not push easily

OK, being a hard-core gamer, I was a little disappointed when I took this out of the box and 3 out of the 14 keys would stick when pressed even lightly. Deciding to give it a try anyway, I mapped out the buttons and tried playing Halo for a little while. I must have gotten fragged a dozen times in the first few minutes because the Left-Strafe button was sticking and just wouldn't pop back up. After watching my character spin in circles while trying to shoot straight, I decided that this particular n52 was a bad apple and RMA'd the thing. So with a little luck and my fingers crossed, hopefully the next one will work just fine. I would really hate to have to order another n50 now that I've seen it's big brother, the n52. But it all comes down to quality and useability, and I'm sure most other gamers will agree.
