Crucial m4 | 256GB
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Aug 24, 2011

The Crucial m4 solid state drives (SSD) are advertised to be Crucials top of the line SSDs with read and write speeds of up to 415MB/s and 260MB/s respectively. The m4 lines capacities range from 64GB to 512GB, all compatible with SATA 6Gb/s. Crucial have managed to keep the performance of these SSDs whilst decreasing their prices, making them some of the most affordable SATA 6Gb/s compatible SSD. These SSDs use MLC NAND and are backward compatible with 3Gb/s SATA connections. They have a MTB life time of 1.2 million hours and are backed by a 3 year limited warranty. The Curcial m4 series solid state drives are good options for buyers looking for capable performance at a manageable price. Features / Specifications 64GB to 512GB Capacities (their performance will vary based on capacities) Micron MLC NAND memory modules SATA 6Gb/s SMART Up to 415MB/s read, 260MB/s write Weight: 75g Active ... PROS: (1) upgradable firmware - for reliability and performance improvements (2) all the perks of a solid state drive - extremely fast, physically resilient, low power consumption, doesnt get hot, silent (3) 2.5" design - fits in laptops and desktops alike (4) SATA 6Gbps capable - makes use of the higher bandwidth throughput of the latest SATA standard (5) RAID, SMART, and TRIM support ... CONS: (1) all the cons of a solid state drive - high price per GB, unrecoverable data in the event of a problem (2) late garbage collection leads to slowdowns over time - only if TRIM is not enabled / implemented (3) 25nm NAND is rated for 3000 cycles vs Intels 5000 cycles - essentially the same NAND?

One week so far.
4 Star Review

Strengths: Big improvement over my old 7200 rpm HD. Load times are drastically reduced.

Weakness: Needs a bracket for standard desktop hard drive bays. (not included)Needs slightly smallers screws to secure the hard drive than a standard hard drive. (not included)

I've had it for a week now. 2.5" means it doesn't fit properly inside a standard desktop HDD bay (it's geared for laptop users). So you will need a special mounting bracket and screws (use pricegrabber if you don't have a good computer store around you, they are like $5). Usage wise it's awesome so far. Computer boots from power on to desktop and ready to go in ~30s and from the end of the windows logo to desktop is about 5s or less. (no grinding out programs after you get to the desktop screen). Shutting the computer down takes about 10s from click to power off. Game load times are drastically reduced. All the little moments of having a bogged down HDD are gone. I pair this with a 2 TB disc drive and my old 500 GB disc drive. Run windows and games off the SSD and all my other crap goes on the disc drives.
