Amazing iMac Core 2 Duo desktop!
5 Star Review   By member lingie - Jul 14, 2007

Strengths: Fast. Reliable. Great design.

Weakness: keyboard not good for someone who's used to laptops. Not enough RAM slots. Limited upgradeable parts.

So far so good. It is reliable like the Macbook Pro C2D that i have. Bright screen. Fast processor. Does its job. Good pricing. But, keyboard is awful so i replaced it with the Macally IceKey which is a slim keyboard with laptop style keys.

4 Star Review   By KO KING on OnSale.com - Apr 1, 2007

Strengths: very fast. extremely quiet!

Weakness: no firewire 800 ports

Well I must say; I was a bit skepitical about this all in one imac. I would recommend this computer to anyone who is getting into the mac world. I am a sound editor, and musician who works with pro tools and it handles all of mys sessions so far no problem. Obviously if you are a video editor handling files 80 gb up you are going to need somthing much more than this but if you are into tracking or editing this is a very fast machine. So I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to upgrade from the g4 desktop or anyone who is wanting to get into macs.

very good value and very capable family computer
4 Star Review   By member turtlebud - Jan 31, 2007

Strengths: * includes pretty much everything you need * separate graphics card * beautiful design * space saving

Weakness: * limited expandability * ports are difficult to access * small display

The more I use this, the more I'm amazed as what it can do. At first glance, it's an all in one computer, no big deal. But when you realize that it comes with a webcam (isight), dual layer cd/dvd burner (superdrive), a good graphics card (128mb ATI Radeon X1600), decent size hard drive (160GB), wireless card (airport extreme - 802.11n capable), multimedia suite of applications (iLife), a remote (with corresponding software - frontrow), you appreciate what a value it is. My sister was amazed at how nice it looks and was suprised to find the computer IN the monitor. Speedwise, it runs your every day applications (Office, Safari/Firefox, iPhoto) very well. I do have a couple of gripes. The ports are a little hard to reach because they are located in the back of the computer. You'll probably need to get a usb hub because the 3 usb ports will be used up with a keyboard, printer, and some other peripheral like a usb card reader. While 17" isn't too bad, it is rather small relative to the size of monitors out there today. However, you'll need to pony up another $300 to get to a 20" version and $800 for the 24" version (drool). Finally, the only expandable part of the imac is the memory and unfortunately, they use 2 512MB RAM modules so if you want to get more, you'll have to replace one instead of just being able to add to it.

5 Star Review   By member Michaelite - Jan 29, 2007

Strengths: Design, Speed, Configuration, Works right out the box,Mac OS

Weakness: Upgradeability, Lack of ports, 90 day tech support.

I use both Mac and Windows and therefore can understand the strengths and weaknesses of one versus the other. That being said, there aren't any systems that even comes close to what iMac has to offer. If you a compare a similarly configured Dell or Hp you will notice that the iMac is priced similarly (in some cases cheaper) than the PCs. The system is extremely fast, except when running non-native applications like Adobe Acrobat or MS Office. Rosetta does a fine job of rendering these applications, but they do eat a huge chunk of memory. The system is extremely quiet (I don't play games on my machine so cannot state about the noise level during gaming). The performance of hard drive on this machine is a concern. Since the system is not heavy and has a small foot print, the system gets moved when trying to unplug peripherals. The fact that the all the ports are on the back does not help much. Front Row is clean and works well, but the minimalistic apple remote precludes it from reaching the same league as Media Center. Also the performance of isight is subpar, it suffers in low light situations.Minor annoyances include: the short cord length of mighty mouse and keyboard, built in isight and microphone does not work with some of the messenger applications. A thing to note here is the technical support from Apple (I am sure Mac zealots would disagree). I don't think the support from Apple is remarkably any better than what Dell or Hp has to offer. The amount of time one has to wait to reach a tech support personnel is ridiculous. Considering the market share of Apple and the fact that free support is limited to 90 days, this is less than desirable, particularly when Apple is trying to lure PC users. Bottomline - iMac is an art

Love my iMac
5 Star Review   By member EstherSez - Dec 31, 2006

Strengths: Great design, well laid out desktop, ease of use, ultra ultra quiet,

Weakness: Well, I can't carry it in my pocket.

I am a 4th generation mac user and lover. They only get better with time. This one is eay to use, plug it in and you are up and running. We have 2 in our family and only derive good work and great pleasure from them. We are not geeks and don't need to Make our computer do anything we dream up; with an iMac, we can do all sorts of creative things w/o bothering. I made a movie from a slideshow of a boat sinking. I can add captions to photos. I can make comics!! It is a lot of fun- my inner creative child has been unleashed!! Oh, I also have Word for iMac. (Evil Word I always called it.) It works well w/ iMac, but I am still No Fan of Word, hahahahaha!!! Word is so illogical, but when sending docs that employers require- they want Word and now I can give it to them.

5 Star Review   By iMac 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo 17\\ on OnSale.com - Dec 29, 2006

Strengths: Well Designed, fast using OS 10 or Windows XP (Out runs my 2GHz PC), rapidly finds Router and connects for all functions, this is a plug and play machine

Weakness: Price may appear high for the current PC user, but worth every penny

I checked performance with Windows XP, OS 10, MS Office, Internet connectivity with wireless and ethernet. At this time, it just doesn't get much better than this.

17" iMac 2.0 GHz
5 Star Review   By member GASTURBO1 - Dec 10, 2006

Strengths: Good connectivity options, Compact space saving design, Wide screen, Built in webcam, Looks good.

Weakness: Limited upgradeablity.

I belive that all desktops should be similar in design to the iMac's, simply because of the all-in-one space saving design. Although other manufactureres have attempted similar approach, it seams like Apple is the only one who succeeded. The iMac 2.0GHz is one of four models Apple is currently offering. But if you can live without the huge 20 or 24 inch screen ones, the 17" 2.0GHz is a better buy when compare to the rest. It has the same 1 GIG installed memory and 8X DVD combo drive as the more expensive ones. The only drawback that I can think of is the lack of internal upgradeability options. Other than memory, if you wish add any accessories, it would have to be external via USB or Fierwire ports. Overall a nicely designed space saving desktop.
