Cable's Ok, Transfer software doesn't work
1 Star Review   By azjimmr on HP - Aug 11, 2009

I had a 32-bit XP system and bought a new 32-bit Vista system. The transfer cable sounded like a good idea. Instructions were not real clear on getting the transfer software to the XP system but it finally went OK. Then, however, the real problem started. The braindead Microsoft transfer software transfers stuff from point A on XP to point A on Vista. On XP I had all my user data on the D partition. In XP, Microsoft uses the D partition as the "Factory Image". There's not a lot of room left on the D partition plus Microsoft recomends you leave the D partition alone. The real problem is the the Microsoft software does not allow you to change locations on the target systems when you use the cable transfer. I believe the other transfer methods do allow the change of location. Don't shoot the cable, go to the source of the problem!

Waste of Time
1 Star Review   By CanjenMike on HP - Aug 2, 2009

It doesn't work very well. It took two tries to get it to complete a transfer. I don't know how long it took since it let it do it overnight, it was slooooow. It didn't transfer all the files, it did transfer stuff it shouldn't have and it didn't transfer settings. I had to go back and recheck what was and wasn't transferred, and then transfer the missing stuff. You're better off getting an external drive and transferring your stuff that way.

Not worth the money
1 Star Review   By Rosie21 on HP - May 24, 2009

The migration cable did not work at all. Old computer (same brand) did not recognize it. I would not waste the money. Still had to do everything individually.

worthless
1 Star Review   By magus47 on HP - Dec 3, 2008

I found this item to be totally worthless. I couldn't make heads or tales of it and ended up just coping things to a CD and transfering it that way. All in all it was a waste of money.

Vital Information
1 Star Review   By Vic300 on HP - Nov 29, 2008

It didn't work for me at all. I later read a review that states the cable doesn't work for 64 bit systems. Which is what my new computer is. That vital bit of information would have spared me time and money.

Belkin Vista Migration Cable
5 Star Review   By Addy on HP - Nov 27, 2008

This cable is great for people like me that don't know much about computers. It saved a lot of time replacing all the information I had already accumilated on my old computer. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. I would recommend this to everyone. It even helped by setting up my service provider and copied all my e-mail addresses.

Belkin Windows Easy(Maybe?) Transfer
4 Star Review   By datrebor on HP - Aug 19, 2008

I bought a new computer with Vista premium 64bit and so I thought I buy this to transfer my videos and music to the new system or well that was the plan I have a 750GB hard drive partitioned with D: drive for backup only at 10GB. This was very easy to set up on the old computer and nothing much to do on the new I set out to transfer but every time I try it sends the info to D: drive with only 1.5 GB left and I can't change that so I called Belkin and found out that this cable is not compatible with the 64 bit systems only the 32 bit, it would have been nice if HP informed us about that little part. Other then that I did not find out how fast it transfer or how well. I gave it 4 stars because of the issue with 64bit systems.

Easy Transfer To The Rescue!
5 Star Review   By member DealGuyMan - Jul 17, 2008

Strengths: From a novice perspective I don't think it could have been easier.

Weakness: None.

I thought it was going to be really complicated but it was a breeze. It came with a little CD to install on both computers. Then when you connected the computers with the cable it walked you through every single step. And it even recommended which files and installations that you should transfer. You had the option of accepting the recommendations or you could individually identify what you wanted to transfer. It was unbelievably fast. I thought it was going to take hours but it went super fast. The written instructions with the cable and the online help were very specific and easy to follow. I was really pleased with it and we were so glad we could keep all our pictures and everything. From start to finish it only took about one and a half hours including very careful review of instructions and documentation. But the transfer only took about ten minutes. I was really amazed at how easy it was. It also gave me the option of moving my old XP operating system to my new computer which had a Vista OS.

Very useful
4 Star Review   By member npa1790 - Jun 6, 2008

Strengths: long cord; good extra features;

Weakness: slow; requires software installation on non-vista computers

I am very satisfied with this Belkin cable. The cord is relatively long so it allows you to connect computers that are far apart. The quality is very high. The actual transfer of files takes a while and you have to set up the easy transfer utility with the CD that comes with the product. Overall, it is a good product for the price and I would definitely recommend it.

Works like a Charm
4 Star Review   By member dobbertincp - Jan 1, 2008

Strengths: Easy to Use, quick, has a nice long cord for easy hookup.

Weakness: None that I found

Followed easy directions, installed software, hooked up right out of the box and went to work moving files from Xp unit to Vista unit. The product does exactly what it says it will do, with ease. Would recommend to others.

Great price for great product. Must have to transfer information from old computer to new VISTA operating computer. Much less expensive than hiring a contractor to do the work for you.
