Classic Jacket
4 Star Review   By Anonymous on Nordstrom - Nov 10, 2013

I'm very happy with the color and fit of the jacket. There's enough room for a sweater or other layers without being too bulky. Surprising for a $400 jacket, there were numerous loose threads, preventing me from rating it with 5 stars.

Classic Jacket now Oversized & with Modern Tweaks
4 Star Review   By Anonymous on Nordstrom - Oct 12, 2012

I have been wearing Beauforts since my Dad handed down his original Dress Gordon-lined A150 Sage Wax to me when I was 17 years old. 17 years later today the Beaufort is a completely different item. Although they are still hand made in England the quality has slightly diminished and the tailoring is not as it used to be. My father's beaufort from the late 1990s was a size 40 or Barbour C40 and it fit me perfect (21.75" chest/33" long). My second Beaufort was a size 38/C38 and it was a Classic A830 that I bought in 2004. For some reason the cut was bigger than previous Beauforts. Today I just picked up a new Classic Beaufort jacket and I'm shocked to see that the 2012 models in size 36/C36 now fits me as if it was the original size 40 with a 22 inch chest/35 long! I'm not sure why Barbour keeps over sizing the cuts each season. Also the new Beauforts uses a much lighter/thinner fabric cotton under the wax coating than before. And the tartan lining weave is not as thick as before. The jacket is now overall much lighter when you put it on but it still seems just as weatherproof, waterproof and durable. However, they were more loose threads on my new Beaufort, than I can remember on any previous Beauforts I owned, and the Velcro on the cuffs were definitely not stitched on like before. For that reason it just doesn't seem handmade anymore but factory made in bulk. However, for the price and quality and the fact that these are amazingly still even made in the UK I have to recommend them but try it on before you buy. I'm still shocked that I'm now a size 36 in Barbour but wear a 40R suit normally!

Shoddy Workmanship
2 Star Review   By Anonymous on Nordstrom - Sep 9, 2012

I've had a Barbour Cheviot since 2005, and I wear it frequently. It is well-insulated, it has lots of pockets (including well-placed hand warming pockets) and does a good job of blocking the wind. The reason I don't give it a rating that reflects the above description is because I've had several occasions where stitching has ripped during normal use. Three pockets (one twice) and the zipper. For a coat the price of which exceeds $400, you shouldn't have to have take it to the repair shop every year. Perhaps most frustrating is the fact that Barbour will not stand behind their product - they will repair the coat for a price, and it takes weeks for them to get the coat back to you. I've had North Face jackets that have stood up far better under more extreme use.
