Strengths: Everything is far better than any camera in this range. You can't get a crisper picture than this.
Weakness: Don't care for flash.
I have a $6000 Nikon, and this can run circles around it, except for the flash, which is a somewhat hard light, and sometimes too strong even with bringing it down.

Next best thing to a digital SLR
Strengths: Pop up flash, fantastic zoom, low lag time between pictures, adjustable shutter
Weakness: Average indoor pictures, bulkier than most, lens cap, take out battery to charge
Most the the weaknesses I listed weren't really weaknesses to me. I use a digital SLR for yearbook pictures and I'm used to the battery, lens cap and like the bulk--it fits in my hand better. Indoor light pictures (candids in a school setting) don't turn out great, but generally point and shoots don't. I like the pop up flash, it goes a little farther than built-in ones, plus I don't have to...

I like the pop up flash, it goes a little farther than built-in ones, plus I don't have to worry about accidently putting my fingers over it.
Love the zoom. Great for sports pictures. Took a bunch of gym classes outside and even close up, they are very clear.
I haven't used the video feature yet. I bought is for the camera features it offered.
My choices came down to this one or Panasonic Lumix dmc-zs1. I chose this because of the pop-up flash and faster lag time.

Great Auto Features, Amazing Video Quality
Strengths: The camera is a pack of power. Intelligent sensing enables capturing of great images according to the light conditions. Amazing ease of handling. Pricey but worth every penny.
Weakness: The battery pack lasts 290 pictures (only). In built memory rather small given 10 MP capability.
This camera is lot better than many point and shoot out there. Pricey than competition but Japanese made and full of features. Video quality is 720p and it focuses well even in dim lights.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20 Review
Not quite shirt-pocketable, the small and light the Sony H20 packs a 10x zoom into a design that's fun to use and takes great shots too. Its 10-megapixel sensor impresses with good image quality, and the Sony H20's autofocus speed rivals some digital SLRs. We were particularly impressed with its sharp corners at wide-angle, and its image quality was good enough for 13x19-inch prints....
