One of the best digital cameras
5 Star Review   By member icelander - Sep 9, 2008

Strengths: Carl Zeiss lens, great image quality, easy to use

Weakness: It could have been thinner, but it's ok

An excellent choice for this price.I also wish Sony would use other memory card formats, like SD as the most digital cameras use, because Sony cards are more expensive than the standard SD cards.Well.i definitely advice DSC-W120 for to take awesome pics.

Outstanding cyber shot regardless the appearance
4 Star Review   By member florabing8 - Jul 28, 2008

Strengths: 4X zoom, battery life, high-quality images

Weakness: out-dated appearance, thickness

From the point of view of the image quality, it is among one of the best from cyber-series. From my experience, Canon always gives better image color and quality, however, this one is comparable. The motion-stablization function is also improved. However, this is kind of thick. Not very modern looking. A little out-of-date, if you don't care, that's a good choice.

Good valued digital camera
4 Star Review   By member sierra_nevadas - Jul 5, 2008

Strengths: Price; slick feel in hands; good quality lens

Weakness: Minimal packaging (no paper manual); proprietary memory card

I was looking for a good budget camera, with a decent amount of features. I've primarily been a Canon supporter, but thought this camera was a better value. Thus far, I am not disappointed! I love the metallic ridgy feel of the camera in my hands. It doesn't slip, and allows for a firm grip. The LCD is penty large enough, and there is still a viewfinder if you need it. The picture quality is awesome, thanks in part to the good build quality of the lens. My only real knocks are the minimal packaging, because I didn't even get a paper manual. I had to access the PDF from the enclosed CD. I also hate the fact that it uses a proprietary sony memory card. These are more expensive than the more standardized SD card.

Great budget camera with great purpose.
4 Star Review   By member onlycom - Jun 18, 2008

Strengths: AF speed, Price, Image Stabilization, Image quality in day light

Weakness: Flash recycle period is decent, not great. No user manual control. Inaccurate AF when dark

Sony W120 is great value camera that will make you smile every-time you shoot pictures with it. Its AF in broad day light is great, super fast, and accurate. AF is coupled with IS system that works just as great. Image quality is great up to ISO200, and good at ISO400. ISO is not recommended but it is usable when downsized. A flash performance is good, but its recycle time is about average among other point-shoot cameras. Also I does not have any manual controls what so ever. No AV, Tv, or manual mode exist. If you want to play is aperture, shutter speed, or both, this is NOT a camera you want. I use it for general purposes. Also AF even with AF illumination light, can misfocus at times. The images may get out of focus, so check your picture after shoot just to make sure your picture is in focus. Overall, W120 is a great value camera with great potential image quality. Use it well, and you will be happy with every shot you take.

Not bad
3 Star Review   By member Fiscal Gear - Jun 7, 2008

Strengths: Face detection, 16:9, 4x optical zoom

Weakness: Proprietary Memory Stick, no IS

This is your average point-and-shoot camera. A few points: 1) the 4x optical zoom is a very nice touch for a P&S camera. Many manufacturers advertise their digital zoom as a strength but really digital zoom is no different than clicking the zoom button while looking at the picture on your computer. It's not a true zoom, meaning you're just stretching the image out. Optical zoom is what you're looking for. 2) 16:9 mode is an interesting touch. Personally, I don't see much use for it for pictures but it might come in handy for video. 3) The Memory Stick format should die already. It's just Sony's way of trying to sell you more proprietary junk. The consumer suffers due to higher prices (from no competition) and lack of interoperability with non-Sony devices. 4) Image stabilization is sadly missing from this camera. P&S cameras have enough trouble getting a good picture. The recent proliferation of IS cameras (see Canon) have advanced the P&S camera further. It's a shame Sony doesn't include it in this offering.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W120/B
4 Star Review   By member majinbis - Jun 2, 2008

Strengths: a good, solid compact camera

Weakness: slow focus

I don't think that there have been significant changes from the cybershot w-series. it's very compact, good light absorption and high ISO settings. It takes very good pictures under natural lighting but fails to impress in low-light situations.

Strengths: Great shape, design, matte color.

Weakness: Flush top buttons look nice...but can be more harder to press then others.

Great little camera so far. Novice-user friendly menu programs. Only downside I can see is the same negative all Sony camera's have in that they only take Memory Sticks instead of SD cards.

Great camera for everyday use
5 Star Review   By member layer1 - May 30, 2008

Strengths: 4x Optical zoom, Zeiss lens, takes quick/crisp pictures, beautiful LCD display on back, tons of features, great value overall.

Weakness: Uses a Lithium ion battery, would have preferred it use a more generic battery type (ie AA)

I purchased this camera to replace my old Sony Cybershot DSC-P73 (4.1 megapixel). The old Cybershot was really good but its one major flaw was shutter speed...just took too long to snap a photo which caused me to miss the shot or have blurry pictures because of movement. This camera does not have the same issue; shots are quick and crisp. This camera has a ton of features like the "Smile Shutter", which snaps a photo as soon as the subject smiles. The 4x optical zoom is nice and the LCD display on the back of this unit is beautiful. This camera uses a lithium ion battery: I would have preferred that it use a couple AA batteries as I have lots of those sitting around. Overall this camera delivers great performance at a great price.

Awesome Camera
4 Star Review   By member rshekhar - May 29, 2008

Strengths: Compact, Sony make and it has movie mode and 4x optical zoom

I got this from OD , combined this with epson/hp printer rebate and got a good deal. The main feature I like about this camera is it has a face detect technology and also it has a smile option, with which you can trim someone who is not smiling. Also it can take pic automatically when someone start smiling. It is very sleak , very good in hands. The only problem I faced was the battery compartment was not closing properly.

(Black) Sony Cyber Shot DSC W120 - best bang for the buck
4 Star Review   By member Linanas - May 28, 2008

Strengths: 1)Nice. Well constructed. Sleek looking design. Small. Easy to carry around. Fast response time. 2)Carl Zeiss lens

Weakness: 1).5 inches bigger LCD 2) Not good for low light

The camera looks better when it's actually in the palm of your hands than in photos. Physically attractive and has a nice feel (doesn't feel cheap). I bought this for my sister who is not an advance user like I am. This 7.2 megapixel camera is perfect for an average user that takes pictures of normal recreational things. It's not an SLR so don't expect this to take amazing images. Once you get to know all the buttons and use it correctly as it was intended to be built for, then you'll be able to produce some exceptionally good photos. Nice extra features such as the image stabilizer, smile shutter and full HD 1080. Not bad fora W120 model, which is the base model of the DSC-W line up because it has the Car Zeiss lens as oppose to the standard sony lens you would find in the DSC-S line up. Nonetheless, excellent fast shutter response time. Pretty good bang for the buck.

One of the best camera from Sony
5 Star Review   By member xmliu92 - May 14, 2008

Strengths: 4X optical zoom, compact, excellent image quality, image stabilizer, face detection, reasonable battery life, HD TV display

This is a very good camera with a good price when it comes with a free color printer after MIR. I paid $150 + tax for both camera and an Epson R280 color printer. The image quality is great, and you can see every detail with 7.2MP CCD sensor. One of the best is that you can view photos on your HD TV with this camera. The Face Detection technology automatically controls flash, focus, and exposure to ensure optimal image quality. memory card (MS pro duo) is a bit expensive however it’s faster than regular MS so you can take next picture with very little waiting time.
