Great camera as long as it doesn't break.
2 Star Review   By traveler59654 on Sony - Official Store - Dec 27, 2013

I have been using this camera for about 9 months. Up to this point the camera has been great. The camera is very small and with the retractable lens this camera is very easy to carry around and travel with. It is very comfortable to hold and after learning the manual functions the camera produces great photos. The bad. After 9 months of use the lens will not protract from its closed position. I sent the camera in for warranty repair and was told the Sony repair facility will not repair a broken motor in the lens without me first paying for a new zoom ring on the outside of the lens. $80 dollars for a zoom ring that has a normal wear and tear scratch from use. I think Sony tried to find an issue with the camera to help cover the warranty repair cost. So...if you want to make sure Sony covers a warranty repair don't ever take it out of the box after you by it. It will not get scratched that way!

The Nex 6 Can Be Used As A Pro Video Camera!!!
5 Star Review   By TheEbonieJeneus1 on Sony - Official Store - Nov 28, 2013

I Purchased the Nex 6 over the summer of 2013... I read the reviews on it and couldn't decide between it and the Nex 7, but since the 6 was the newer version I went for it... Man this thing shoots Extremely Professional Video!!!! I am a professional videographer and I've seen a lot of complaints about this camera from the way people say it overheats to sever moire and aliasing... Obviously some of these people don't know the ins and outs of this camera and are obviously very cheap!!! First of all let's address the over heating issue... With the Nex-6 it will over heat if you use an SD card rather than a Sony Memory Stick!!! Get the HG-HX Version!!! It is Way Better Than An SD Card (Even Class 10) and it's faster!!! Secondly if you shoot thru the OLED eye piece instead of using the electronic LCD screen you will have longer battery life and and the camera will remain cool... When I used a 32gig class 10 sd card for my nex-6, I couldn't figure out why it was overheating... Then, as soon as I switched to Sony's Memory Stick Pro (HG-HX) 8gig version, I could record for the length of the card without over heating (In 1080p 60p 28mbs you'll get 38min with 8gig memory stick pro (HG-HX) but I shoot 1080p 24p 24mbs which extends my time to about 46mins on the same card). Now also the 18-55mm pancake lens that comes with the camera is an okay lens, but I decided to upgrade to the 35mm 1.8 prime lens for the nex system AND WHAT A REMARKABLE DIFFERENCE IT MADE!!! My suggestion is if u are looking to buy this camera buy the body, it is a wonderful piece of technology because of the shooting options it gives u and how it performs... Get a fast, high quality prime lens if u shoot video, for optimal image quality.... It will reduce distortion, moire, aliasing and provide wonderful low-light sharpness... Again I am A Professional Videographer and I just used this camera for a video shoot!!! If you would like to see the image quality of this camera go to www.youtube.com/theeboniejeneus & look for the video "Protect I"... All of the CloseUps were done with the NEX-6 and the wide shots came from the sony HDR-td10 (3Dcam)!!! My Main Camera Setup Consists Of The Nex-6 with The 35mm 1.8 prime lens!!! As far the work I have done with the Nex-6, I've shot commercials, music videos, political forums, etc and I Do Not Have A Problem With The Image Quality At All... And after purchasing a prime lens, the image quality far exceeds that of a zoom... Take Care Guys!!!

Really weak features on a Great Camera body.
3 Star Review   By holyvideoly on Sony - Official Store - Oct 21, 2013

I upgraded from the NEX5n to the NEX6 with the 16-50mm compact lens. Since I do a lot of video and editing I found that the NEX series produces elegant, crisp 1080 60p video, I upgraded to the 6 because of the following features. 1) viewfinder 2) increased lens stability in video mode (Optical Steady Shot) 3) Wireless download capability 4) Power Zoom lens 5) Lens compact geometry (Camera will fit in your pocket like the NEX5 with "pancake" lens) 6) Improved focus (when cont shutter selected photos were out of focus) 7) more intuitive direct select dial on top. But, I am returning it. Mainly to get rid of the SELP-1650 Lens. I am going to purchase the body only and use my lenses from the 5n until Sony get's an improved design together. What I found: 1) Viewfinder, Excellent worth the switch 2) Lens Stability, This was good. Not as good as a digicam but an improvement. 3) wireless download, Just a mess. Sony for some reason thinks the best value for wireless is for you to send copies of your pictures to your phone??? This is a semi-pro camera. I need it to distribute high megapixel media to a computer, where it will be processed with Photoshop or Sony Vegas. This wireless requires install of "Play Memories" that takes over all your images on your computer. You have to manually access your router (BTW they refer to this as an Access Point... which most folks probably never heard of, which is a dumbed down router) I was unsuccessful in getting the communication going, and found that my battery was drained to 35% after 30 min of trying. I contacted Sony to see if I could forget about the wireless and shut it off. The answer is "no" ... it is on all the time, cannot be shut off. That seems very poor design to have that thing searching and sucking the battery? 4) Power Zoom Lens, If you have done video using a Sony or Panasonic digi-cam you know that slow is elegant. This one is rough, jerky noisy, and way too fast. (if you wanted fast that would be with a manual hand twist, while slow is hard to do manually etc) Also, the lens has mechanical and digital zoom. You cannot shut off the digital zoom. So as you zoom you slide into digital without a detent, and start loosing pixels. This is really amateur in my opinion. 5) Small form factor, This is great. It moves in and out with accuracy. 6) Improved focus, In video this is definitely an improvement. The 5n said OSS in the lens, but it did not work in video. So any little shake in hand motion ended up on the video. Upon using the 10 shot/second stills... as my Grandson walked toward me, the focus was lost. It is improved though but not perfect. 7) Simplified layout and Dial, Yes and No. The dial on top is more traditional and better direct access. (they removed the antishake function and put it in the "SCN" tho) And No for the menu system. The NEX5n had a touch screen that was helpful, this one does not. The added features are stuffed into the end of the set-up. (toolbox icon) Summary is that Sony has an outstanding product. I will use it and work around the limitations. The thinking for the software is suspect. I question logic that puts the emphasis on sending pictures to facebook (or Aunt Edna's cell phone) rather than moving the media to where it needs to be.. And, digital zoom? Do they even do that on DSLRs? No shut-off for the wireless? I hope there is a firmware update coming soon to correct this. (Recommend Sony use their programmers in the group responsible for Vegas Pro... a supremely outstanding product)

Best Camera for the Size!
4 Star Review   By Amber Bamber on Adorama - Sep 8, 2013

I'm using this camera for travel and general picture-taking. Although it's not an SLR, It has many or all of the functions of one, without the big size and price. The only thing I don't like about it is I'm constantly feeling like I'm going to lose the lense cover, as it's small and doesn't have a strap attachment. I'm hoping I can find some way to fix that before my next outing.

Remote iPhone app is great
5 Star Review   By achiu on Sony - Official Store - Sep 1, 2013

I'm sure you read all the other reviews about the image quality and lenses. Here is the addition for the remote mobile phone app, "Smart Remote Control." It uses WIFI but the camera acts as an access point. So, if you are in the mountains without any WIFI, just turn on the app on the NEX 6, search for the access point using your mobile phone, then they get paired. The NEX 6 acts like a WIFI router. I've used it up to 30 feet away. It can be used anywhere. The phone gives a real time video feed (sometimes half sec delayed) to the phone. It can send the image to the phone each time you take a picture, but this transfer delays time between shots. It uses whatever settings you had for the camera before going into this mode. You can't change anything from the phone, yet. But, I'm sure there will be an update like any app with more functionality. How does this help you? You can see the picture on your phone in real time and adjust the people in the picture just right to take the perfect shot. The rest of the reviews here are pretty spot on. 24mm lens is excellent!

limited NEX 6 lens
4 Star Review   By ponder on Sony - Official Store - Jul 31, 2013

I really like the NEX 6, especially the active viewfinder, and I keep wanting to buy it. I just can't find a lens I want to carry with it. I want a walkaround camera with the APS-C sensor to replace the Sony HX9V I now carry in a cell phone belt pouch. I want a pocket camera, not a pocket camera with a backpack of accessories. If Sony took the lens from the CyberShot and put it on the NEX 6, I would buy it in a heartbeat

Travel to trade shows over the past three weeks, great for people, outdoor & indoor landscape. Easy to change out lense and compact enough to be able to bring along. AutoFocus can get itself a little confused at times.

The IPAD of Camera's
5 Star Review   By Calhiker on Sony - Official Store - Mar 19, 2013

Wow ! What a delight to work with, brings the fun back to photography. Easy to use , a comfort to hold, IQ that wows !, so intuitive. I love this Camera. When a product like the IPAD is released and you get to using it and it feels like an extension of your mind and body, you know your on to something special an engineering marvel. I can say that this is the same feeling I felt with the NEX 6. with its compact size and large sensor the same one in the likes of such excellent camera's like the Nikon D7000, D5100, Pentax K30 this little marvel holds its ground on IQ against the above mentioned. But unlike the big black bricks they call camera's, you'll be more up to carrying this Camera out and making the shot, its the travelers dream. A compact power house! The NEX 6 also has photo apps that can be downloaded directly via its WIFI capability, these apps add a whole other dimension of possibilities for pre and post picture editing and features. The video in this Camera is also fantastic in pure HD 1080 with image stabilization, you'll look at your video and think you shot it using a Hollywood camera costing thousands. As with everything we must also list it short coming which I feel are very small. One the View finder in very dark scenes can get a little grainy this is due to it being a mirrorless camera and it does not have an optical viewfinder but an OLED viewfinder so its like having a small TV to look through , this does not effect picture image quality in the least just what you are framing through the viewfinder in the dark. In the light, viewing your taken photo's through the viewfinder adds a dimension of 3D effect to the photo's a really nice effect, one thing I wanted to mention about the viewfinder that's a positive is that if your a little unfamiliar with the Pro camera settings - manual settings and want to venture into this as you learn, all adjustment made can instantly be seen in the viewfinder - ISO settings, shutter settings etc.. you will be able to see in real time the effects they have on the image, this is an excellent learning tool. Second Con - would be the battery life. You'll be able to take about 300 -400 photo's before having to recharge- easy fix purchase a second or third battery. So there you have it I love the NEX 6 and believe you will also. Enjoy!

Best Camera I've Bought In A While
5 Star Review   By Meangrain on Sony - Official Store - Mar 12, 2013

I have been buying about 3 cameras a year since I started seriously into videography. I run multi-cam shoots and upgrade several bodies at once. After 3 months with this camera I still have no complaints. It performs as well as any full-bodied APS-C DSLR and has the best control scheme I've seen on a Compact Mirrorless to date. WiFi is nice and works well, but is a feature I rarely use. Hybrid PD/CD-AF is lightning-fast with near-instant focus speeds, though it does not work with video mode, only CD-AF. Lens Compensation settings can fix your jpegs but not raw images or video. Video capture on this camera is superb. IMHO, it crushes everything Canon and stand side-by-side with Nikon (who use Sony sensors on many models). Big win for videographers here, and the crisp EVF is a nice touch too. This camera sits alone at the top of the mirrorless class and stands side-by-side with the best of the APS-C DSLR cameras. Imperceptable differences between the 7D or D7000 in iage quality. Big win for Sony!

Great Camera
5 Star Review   By MDTexas on Sony - Official Store - Nov 18, 2012

I just returned my RX100 P&S, while the RX100 isn't a bad camera, I didn't like its size because of the fact that it was too portable. What I mean by that is that, if I had a regular $200-300 P&S I wouldn't mind it if while it was on the lanyard, if it got bumped around accidentally, but this camera (RX100) is so small compared to it's price that I was just too cautious about placing somewhere and it accidentally getting knocked over etc..... Anyway, the NEX-6 is a great camera, I was choosing between this and the 5r but ended up going with this instead because I really like the NEX-6's viewfinder, also from what I understood at the Sony Store, the 6 has an active AF, where if you are continuously shooting and the subject changes distance, then the camera actively readjusts its focus accordingly, whereas the NEX-5n, 5r, and 7 don't have this. I strongly recommend this camera. Keep up the great work Sony!!

Superb Little Camera!!!!
5 Star Review   By JPJr on Sony - Official Store - Nov 17, 2012

I've been using pro level, huge and heavy, DSLR's for many years (after many, many years of using BIG AND HEAVY film SLR's). - primarily because of their better image quality when compared to smaller, lighter cameras. It was not unusual for me to lug around a 30 pound gadget bag, full of camera bodies, lenses and accessories. But, for the past couple of years, I've found myself picking up, carrying around, and using, little, point & shoot cameras because of their lighter weight and bulk - but, I soon found that their image quality was not good enough for "prime time," so I began looking for a premium quality, small, mirror- less camera - and I think I've found just that in my new Sony NEX-6. Wonderful every day, take everywhere, carry-around,camera. Excellent image quality with the kit 16-50 zoom., Easy to use (although the incredible number and variety of features are a little mind boggling at first). EVF is perfectly satisfactory and certainly better than looking at the screen in bright daylight. I've only used the camera for less than a week, but I have been extremely pleased with the results. Colors and images are comparable to those I've experienced from pro level DSLR's. I printed a couple of 13X19 enlargements of NEX-6 images this week and the quality is superb. Just in case you can't tell, I love this little camera!

Responsive, portable and excelllent IQ
4 Star Review   By Shopaholic on Sony - Official Store - Nov 14, 2012

I have been using this camera for over 2 weeks now. Upgraded from my NEX-5 (first generation). Having a viewfinder is nice especially in sunny weather, the pancake lens make the camera more portable, IQ improved a bit. Also auto focus is much faster, especially with lens that support phase detection, like the new pencake 16-50, the tele-zoon 55-210. But not all E-mount lens are supported, like the 50mm F1.8 or 16mm F2.8. Also, the camera can actually use the old NEX battery, as long as they are genuine battery made by Sony, and not those cheap knockoff someone got from the auction site. Thrust me, no matter how real those batteries look, they are fake. The easiest way to tell genuine from fake is by weighting them. The genuine one is heavier. Hope that helps.

This is a great camera
5 Star Review   By Kendrick on Sony - Official Store - Nov 14, 2012

This my entry into the Nex system, but I am a long time Sony user. I have owned alpha cameras and most recently the a77 and a99. I have been looking for a camera that's easy enough to pick up everyday and use. This is that camera! I was first impressed when I took ISO shots from 6400 to 26500 and believe it or not it performed MUCH better than my expectations in low light. The image at 26500 was actually usable straight out the camera! Again since my goal is to make a memorable photo per day, I didn't want to bring out my heavy a99, but still want great quality. After using the Nex-6 for about an hour, I can meet that goal. Sony has been on a roll lately with its sensors and it was a welcome upgrade to the jpeg engine for this system. Not sure what they did to tweak it but they are on the right track. As long as you read over this cameras functions, you can manage your expectations when it comes to battery, accessories and such. I am impressed with the purchase and comparing it to the competition, Sony has done right by the photographer this go around.

Dont buy it if you are upgrading from other nex
1 Star Review   By DinilAD on Sony - Official Store - Nov 11, 2012

camera came without a proper battery charger. it came with a USB charger which use camera as charging device. So if you have a spare battery, no use for that. Also this camera only support the battery that came with the camera. Other nex batteries are not compatible. Good thing about this camera its new design, view finder and power lens. But totally not worth the money.
