DCRP Review: 2009 Super Zoom Shootout
3.5 Star Review  DCResource - Jul 17, 2009

The Pentax X70 is unremarkable, with a few too many corners cut for my taste (limited shutter speed range, choppy frame rate in movie mode, ancient-looking menus, to name a few). Read our Super Zoom Shootout to see how this camera and three others compare!

Pentax X70 Review
4 Star Review  photographyblog.com - Sep 3, 2009

The Pentax X70 is the latest super-zoom compact camera to land on our review desk, and the first entry from Pentax into this ever-competitive segment of the market. This 24x zoom model offers an amazingly versatile focal range of 26-624mm, covering everything from wide-angle landscapes to up-close-and-personal nature shots. If there still isn't enough telephoto range for you, the software-based Intelligent Zoom function boosts the X70's reach up to 3900mm. Also on offer are a 2.7-inch LCD monitor, 1280x720 pixel HD movies, 1cm macro and full range of manual shooting modes. Currently selling for around £370 / $399, Gavin Stoker finds out if the Pentax X70 can compete with the super zoom big boys in our latest expert review.

Pentax X70
3.5 Star Review  cnet.com - Aug 14, 2009

THE GOOD: Sharper photos than most megazoom cameras; plenty of shooting options; straightforward operation. THE BAD: Slow performance; no full-resolution continuous shooting; crippled HD movie recording; noise even at lowest ISO sensitivities. THE BOTTOM LINE: Slow performance and photo quality concerns stop the otherwise very good Pentax X70 from being a winning megazoom.

Pentax X70
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 6, 2011

The Pentax X70 is a professional quality camera that is small in size. It has a 12 megapixel resolution and an excellent 24x zoom lens. The camera has an average 2.7" LCD screen to view the pictures on and comes with triple shake reduction technology to minimize camera shaking and image bluring. The Pentax X70 offers high-speed continuous shooting with 11 FPS, a great feature for action shots. Fast face detection and a flexible movie capture up the appeal of the product, as does the super macro mode that focuses on details of tiny subjects as close as 1 cm from the lens. Features 24x zoom 12 megapixel resolution 2.7" LCD screen High speed continuous shooting Fast face detection Flexible movie capture Super Macro Mode Shake reduction Technology Wide-angle optical zoom ... PROS: (1) Much wider focal range than many competing products (2) Low-noise performance in high ISO ranges (3) Offers full manual controls despite not being a DSLR (4) Very broad lens range beats out many similar cameras, effective range is 26mm - 624mm (5) Onboard shake-reduction features work pretty well to minimize blurring at high zoom ... CONS: (1) Autofocus speed is noticeably slower than other typical cameras like this (2) Video quality is poor compared to many similar or cheaper cameras, lower framerate as well (15fps) (3) Auto white balance produces odd results indoors, colours tend to be too yellow
