DCRP Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5
4 Star Review  DCResource - May 5, 2008

In the introduction to this review, I remarked that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 was one of my favorite cameras of 2007. I'm pleased to report that this years model, the DMC-TZ5, is even better. It offers a big zoom lens, good photo quality, a stunning 3-inch LCD display, a 720p movie mode, and generally snappy performance, all in a relatively compact body. It has a few downsides, including above average noise, a slow lens, and sluggish low light focusing. Despite a few flaws, the TZ5 is a great camera, and one which I can highly recommend.

4 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Jul 25, 2008

Though it has a 10x zoom the <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Panasonic TZ5</a> is still quite pocketable, a great digital camera for everyday carry. The <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Panasonic TZ5</a> is about the same physically as its predecessor, with a new grip and a few shifted controls. Optical image stabilization gives the 28-280mm lens a little more crispness indoors and in low light, and the <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Panasonic TZ5</a>'s new 9.1-megapixel sensor serves up slightly smoother images. Though they couldn't make the <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Panasonic TZ5</a>'s 3-inch LCD any bigger, they managed to pack in twice the number of pixels, raising resolution from 230,000 pixels to 460,000, great for viewing photos or videos. Overall, the Panasonic TZ5 delivers images that can be printed at up to 11x14 inches, with a high-quality and versatile 10x Leica zoom in a very small package. <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Click here</a> for our review of the <a href="http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/TZ5/TZ5A.HTM">Panasonic TZ5</a> digital camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5
4 Star Review  letsgodigital.org - Aug 25, 2008

The combination of an effective and powerful image stabilizer and a large optical zoom makes a very strong concept. Nothing beats having a camera loose in your inside pocket and being able to capture virtually any moment you want. The ease and user-friendliness of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 are clearly present and we have no comments on these. If Panasonic works on the aforementioned remarks, in our opinion the concept will then be perfect.

4.5 Star Review  cameralabs.com - Mar 16, 2008

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 is one of the most flexible compacts on the market. Like its predecessor, it may not be the slimmest model around, but uniquely packs in a 10x optical zoom lens complete with image stabilisation and a 28mm equivalent wide angle. Of course the earlier Lumix TZ3 had all of that, but with the new TZ5, Panasonic's added a more detailed screen, High Definition video recording and an improved version of its Intelligent Auto mode, along with two extra Megapixels. It's a compelling upgrade to one of the best models of 2007, but is it really worth paying the extra or better to go for its predecessor or a model with greater control? Find out in our full review where we've compared the TZ5 against key rivals and check out our video tour for a demonstration of its features.

5 Star Review  photographyblog.com - May 12, 2008

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 has a very hard act to follow - its predecessor, the TZ3, was one of the most popular digital cameras of 2007. The DMC-TZ5 retains the same core features - 28-280mm lens in a pocket-sized package - and adds more megapixels, 720p HD video, a higher-res LCD screen and Venus IV Engine processing engine into the mix. Can the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 improve on a winning formula, or does it just deliver more of the same? Read our 240th product review to find out…

3.5 Star Review  cnet.com - Jun 23, 2008

THE GOOD: Attractive, functional design; generally above-average photo quality for its class; nice, useful feature set; lens can zoom during movie capture. THE BAD: Aggressive smoothing reduces detail in indoor shots, even at low ISO sensitivities; modest performance; poorly placed microphone. THE BOTTOM LINE: Though its not perfect, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5s compact midrange megazoom feature set puts it in a class with just its sibling, the TZ4, and should deliver a satisfying shooting experience.

Broke in 6 months, Panasonic NO HELP!
1 Star Review   By member bikeboy3 - Jul 3, 2009

Strengths: Big Zoom

Weakness: Poor Operation in Low Light, Weak Construction, Short Battery Life

Bought in December, stopped working June! I take great care of my equipment and LCD screen internally cracked, sent to Panasonic and they would not honor warranty. Even when the camera worked the battery life was awful and the low light weaker than any camera I have ever used. I am semi pro and have Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras that all work better. Sony, Canon & Nikon service exceptional. Panasonic the worst ever! DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA or anything from Panasonic because if it breaks for any reason they will not honor warranty!

Panasonic TZ5 Camera
5 Star Review   By member deshwasi - Oct 29, 2008

Strengths: Pocket Size, Super (10x) Zoom, Wide-Angle, HD movie

Weakness: none.

This is one of the best pocket cameras available with chock-full of features and excellent performance. one of the best-rated cameras in all reviews, it can do HD video too on inexpensive SDHC memory card. pics are sharp and vibrant. a bit excessive noise reduction is an issue at higher ISO but nothing to worry about in normal well-lit conditions. i love this camera and highly recommend this
