Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 review at Camera Labs
4.5 Star Review  cameralabs.com - Oct 28, 2010

The Panasonic Lumix FZ40 improves upon its best-selling predecessor in a number of important areas, most notably the lens range. In the shadow of the PowerShot SX30 IS it's easy to overlook the FZ40's new 24x optical zoom. It may not be as long as the Canon, but it does offer wider and much longer coverage than the earlier FZ35 - and the 600mm maximum will be more than sufficient for most photographers. For videographers, the new 3in screen provides a much better view for HD 16:9 movie shooting. As for image quality, the FZ40 wasn't actually any better in our tests than its predecessor, but it certainly wasn't any worse. So which super-zoom camera should you buy of the major new models? The FZ40 is certainly one of the most affordable, not to mention light too. As always it boils down to comparing features and being honest with yourself over which ones really count to you personally. We'll help you make the right decision in our FZ40 review at Camera Labs where we've fully compared the features and quality between it and key rivals.

3.5 Star Review  cnet.com - Feb 15, 2011

THE GOOD: Excellent feature set and shooting options for the money; nice design; great battery life. THE BAD: JPEG photo quality tanks at ISO 400; menu system can get confusing. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is a solid megazoom, but its low-light photos need extra attention.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40
4 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 24, 2010

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is a point-and-shoot digital camera by Panasonic. It is a member of the fall 2010 lineup of Panasonic Lumix handheld cameras. Its 14.1 megapixel camera can record 720p quality video in the AVCHD format. There is a button on the top of the camera that quickly switches between picture and video mode, instead of having to dig through settings or spin a dial to the correct notch like most other cameras. Panasonic touts this camera as one of its "super-zoomers" as it has a 24x optical zoom, which is considerably higher than most optical zooms on point-and-shoot cameras. The other "super-zoomer" camera is the FZ100, which offers all of the same features as the FZ40, except upgrades to 1080p video recording. The Lumix DMC-FZ40 comes with software to view and sort recorded media, as well as software to easily upload the videos to YouTube. Features Point-and-shoot ... PROS: (1) great image quality (2) records video in 720p high definition, stereo audio (3) HDMI output for direct playback of images and video on compatible HDTVs and displays (4) 24x optical zoom (5) records to affordable, capacious and easy to find SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards ... CONS: (1) large and heavy (even moreso than the previous generation FZ38) - not good for a consumer who wants something easy to use on the go (2) larger display (" vs. 2." on the FZ38) retains the same low resolution (3) smaller image sensor cannot compete with larger DSLRs in terms of image quality - poor noise / dynamic range above ISO 400

FZ40K worth the upgrade
5 Star Review   By Potter Not Harry on Provantage (Channel Engine) - Sep 27, 2010

Strengths: 24x zoom and Lecia Lens superior quality

Weakness: LCD display panel scratches easily get your self a screen guard.

I just upgraded from the FZ35k to the FZ40K it was worth every penny when I didn't miss the shot of the Coopers Hawk at the top of a telephone pole the 24x zoom and new Lecia lens worked fantastic keeping my subject focused and image tack sharp zoomed out all the way. I took photos of a farmers market and the colors were true and bold. A fantastic camera just got better.
