Nikon D800 Review
5 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Nov 22, 2012

Shooting with a digital camera like the Nikon D800 is a treat. All the controls are ideally suited for the experienced photographer: Important controls have a button or dial, and there are even a few buttons you can program to work just how you want. Built for the rigors of professional photography, the Nikon D800 is substantial, and its output is weighty as well, putting 36.3 megapixels on your subject for detail most folks have never seen. Naturally there are pluses and minuses to that much resolution: Though you get finer detail than is offered by other cameras, your depth of field can be razor thin when shooting wide open, and the large files can tax all but the latest computer hardware. We don't think the Nikon D800 is for everyone, but those who need it will surely love it. Read our review for more!

Great camera
5 Star Review   By Jo Photographer on Adorama - Nov 16, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I stepped up from a D300s and find this camera easy to get used to. I've read many reviews complaining about the weight, everything in life comes with a price-if you want high quality images you need to deal with the heft. Buy a good tripod and get some beautiful shots. If you want light weight deal with you camera phone. Personally, I've been a photographer for over 30 years and find a heavy camera easier to hand hold.

Professional DSLR Nikon 800
4 Star Review   By KCS on Adorama - Nov 6, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I'm a professional editorial and lifestyle photographer. I currently use and/or have used various different camera systems including the Canon, Hasselblad, Mamiya and Nikon. I've been a Canon shooter for nearly 5 years working with the 5D MII and the MIII. I've always found the auto focus and focus tracking somewhat finicky and a bit soft on the older line of USM lens. ...not an issue on the USM II line but that comes with a hefty price tag. I've always been impressed with Nikon's optics and have always felt that they were a bit sharper and faster to track focus. That alone wasn't enough for me to change my system entirely over to Nikon. What made me switch over was the range of "ACCEPTABLE" noise at the higher ISO ranges. I feel that the Nikon 800 produces a much cleaner file than the Canon 5D MIII and produces a larger RAW file from which give more latitude to preserve image quality and detail under the most demanding and challenging lighting conditions. Keep in mind that this comparison is base on Canon's and Nikon's comparable lens line up on not any third party lens manufacturers. It is also strictly between the Nikon D800 and the Canon 5DMIII.

4 Star Review   By Josh on Adorama - Nov 6, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

Its a great camera, the biggest issue I have with it is that it isnt as easy to use as say, and D3200, lol. That honestly is the ONLY complaint. Once I got some experiance with it things worked itself out. Great images and ..well...love it. If this is a major upgrade for you, make sure to spend some time with it prior to heading out to Yellowstone! I have also noticed that it works fine in FX mode on Sigma brands lenses. If I leave it in FX with a Nikkor DX lense it vignettes, yet with using my 150-500 or 300-800 Sigma there doesnt seem to be any vignetting ..

More than most really need
5 Star Review   By Large Format Guy on Adorama - Sep 25, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I have always shot large format landscape photography. Needless to say, it's getting hard to find film and someone to develop it. Not to mention the expense has skyrocketed seemingly overnight. That's why I opted for the D800 with it's 36 Megapixels. That and the HDR function. As I'm reading the manual and learning about all the functions, it's obviously everything anyone could want all in one camera. My only comment is that it's a LOT MORE than I and others will probably ever use. I just wish Nikon made a much simpler camera with the 36 megapixels for those who just want to shoot landscapes. A camera that would hopefully be simpler to use for us dinosaurs who have been shooting large format, and cheaper of course. Otherwise, this camera has everything anyone could want.

5 Star Review   By Pat C. on Adorama - Sep 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I went from d300s to D800. Even better image quality. You can tell the difference is significant especially in low light. I love this camera. Only thing you should not use DX lenses on it. Only use full frame Fx lenses or prime. I have the Tokina 11-16 2.8 Dx. It actually works with Fx at 15-16mm to my surprise. You get vignetting if you zoom out past 15mm but who needs that because it is much wider on a full frame camera.

So far so great!
4 Star Review   By M. S. on Adorama - Jul 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I purchased this camera as a (significant) step up from my D90 (which I kept as a backup). My first session with it was a wedding this past weekend. I used it with the Trinity (85 1.4, 24-70, 70-200) and it did a great job during the day and into the evening. The D90 produces good images in low-light, but the D800 produced MUCH better images. I also appreciated the Quiet mode, which I'm using as the default. From the sound of the Quiet mode, it didn't sound like the shutter was as fast as I set it, but the Quiet mode didn't affect the shutter speed. The only thing that isn't so great about it is that - unlike my D90 - I can't assign the Autofocus switch (from Single Point to Auto-area) to an Fn button. For the D800, the action required to switch takes (the combination of a button near the bottom of one side of the camera and turning a dial at the top of the opposite side of the camera body) some getting used to (fortunately I don't use the 70-200 often enough to have to stretch to switch autofocus with one hand). I haven't done the test for the autofocus issue that others have mentioned, so I can't comment on that (yet.) I don't feel comfortable giving it a 5-star rating yet, as I've only had it for a couple of weeks, and I can't give a more-thorough review.

5 Star Review   By AAurelio on Adorama - Jul 30, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I was really hesitant to get this camera after having my D700 for so long. I loved that camera, but I needed something that could do better in low light situations. The D800 makes shooting so much easier. I am not in love with the file size, but after I purchase more RAM and another external HD, things should get faster. The size is comparable to my D700, but the quality is so much better. Glad I upgraded.

In studio I was loving the camera and detail. Test your camera thoroughly. Just shot one week in Puerto Rico for a job. Major back focusing issues even at the maximum AF-tuning corrections. Unusable at lower apertures on multiple lenses. (Nikkor 28-80 2.8 and even my Nikkor 50mm 1.8 set at f4. Has to use my 600. I didn't notice in studio shooting at f8. Very glad I didn't realize on a wedding.
