Nikon Coolpix S3
4 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Feb 7, 2006

The <a href="http://imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CPS3/CPS3A.HTM">Nikon Coolpix S3</a> packs a lot of features into its sleek, handsome exterior, including a 6.0-megapixel CCD with 3x zoom lens, and a large 2.5-inch LCD. Its build is solid, with no creaks, and has a pleasant heft. All the controls and features--with the exception of the SD card door--are well-constructed and give the camera a feel of quality. The <a href="http://imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CPS3/CPS3A.HTM">Coolpix S3</a> delivers very bright, snappy-looking photos with vibrant, hue-accurate color and good detail for making large prints. The S3's vibrant color will appeal to the majority of consumers, but may be a bit much for those accustomed to more restrained color. The <a href="http://imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CPS3/CPS3A.HTM">Nikon S3</a>'s high-ISO performance was useable up to 5x7, but started to fall apart at 8x10. Still, the ISO 400 setting of the Coolpix S3 should be more than usable for the majority of consumers, particularly if they are making prints 5x7 inches or smaller from the images, but if you need greater quality keep it below ISO 200. As a take-anywhere "pocket" camera, the Nikon S3 performs very well and will make its owner very happy with their purchase. The <a href="http://imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CPS3/CPS3A.HTM">Nikon CoolPix S3</a> is a nice subcompact digicam. Great portable with easy to use program menu.
5 Star Review

Strengths: Easy to follow program modes. Video with time lapse. Size is incredible. Nikkor ED lens with excellent contrast. Built in photo fix to maximize the shot with in. Large LCD. Battery life...

Weakness: In regular Auto mode camera does search for the shot, USE THE BUILT IN PROGRAMS ALREADY! 15FPS on video not 24FPS.

This camera is a sleek pocket camera that is a pocket camera... People keep comparing these cameras to there D70 or SLR camera quality. It has the best program modes in the business, so use them. Video mode is great and has an incredible Time Lapse feature. Camera is wonderful and should have its place among the top pocket cameras. I've been reading that people don't like the flash, to bright. Well if you are shooting at 10 ft compare the cameras then. Also put your camera in close up portrait and see the difference in the flash. USE THE PROGRAMS! And as for the Canon it is a brick and lens jams up if you dink it or get grit on the protruding lens. Same risk with the Casio models. Image quality is so close. I would buy this camera over the new S5 and S6 due to the picture quality rating better on DPreview tests. Hard to upgrade this great camera...

Cool pix S3
5 Star Review   By member Thinkbig16888 - Feb 9, 2006

Strengths: size/pic quality/ comes in a variety of body color

Weakness: video mode

qty of pics is excellent. Size is great. Pop in a 2Gb sd card and it works non stop. If they can get the video to work better, it would have gotten 6 stars from me.

COOLPIX S3 Digital Camera Review
5 Star Review

Strengths: Very high resolution, easy to use, takes very pice pictures with a minimum of effort. Great little camera.

Weakness: No memory AT ALL comes with the camera. Not even a small card, such as 12 MB. Each {icture is about a megabyte, so you'll need a good size memory card purchased separately.

See Pros & Cons above. They pretty much sum up my thoughts. With 6.4 Mega Pixel resolution and very good ease of use, its an excellent camera at a very reasonable price.

Very pleased!
4 Star Review   By member colejw - Dec 14, 2005

Strengths: I really enjoy being to carry this camera everywhere that I go and still get quality pictures. It is sharp, has good color balance, and is exceptional for a camera this size.

Weakness: You have to be careful with the auto focus. Sometimes I have to wait until the camera is ready and the shot might be gone.

I have several 35 mm cameras and a Nikon D70. I have been very pleased with the pictures that I get from the S3. If you are careful, you can get images that are very good quality. Size is the real plus for me, along with the high quality images.

5 Star Review

Strengths: Size, picture quality

I normally shoot with a D70, but it is too large to take on business trips....this is the perfect compliment. I take it with me everywhere. Well done Nikon!!!

Cool looking and Compact
2 Star Review   By member chanamasala - Oct 31, 2005

Strengths: Looks and portability. Big LCD screen. Ease of use.

Weakness: IMO, image quality is less than my Canon.

I really love the looks of this camera. The big 2.5 inch LCD screen is cool too. I like the non-protruding lens. But after using a Canon S400 for two years, the image quality of this Nikon is just not as good, in my opinion. I like that the Nikon uses SD cards. I got the Nikon because the Canon was small but still a little too heavy and bricklike to carry around with ease. I really care most about image quality so I'm sticking with my Canon. But this one is way more portable and the build quality is excellent. Start up time was fine and also in-between shot time.
