Sometimes product categories are defined by one popular line, and the Nikon P510 continues the tradition of excellence in ultrazoom digital cameras, with a very wide, very long zoom lens and impressive print quality. With a zoom that ranges from 24 to 1,000mm equivalent, it has a tendency to make you see the world differently, allowing you to realize shots you hadn't before imagined. With great handling, a nice grip, an articulated LCD and built-in GPS, the Nikon P510 offers more than ever before. Read our Nikon Coolpix P510 review for more!

3.5 Star Review cnet.com - Mar 22, 2012

THE GOOD: The Nikon Coolpix P510 is a fun camera to shoot with, overflowing with photo and movie features, and backed by very fast shooting performance and excellent low-ISO photo quality. THE BAD: The P510 has trouble focusing at the telephoto end and its low-light/high-ISO photo quality has room for improvement. Also, the camera feels cheaply constructed. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Nikon Coolpix P510 is easy to recommend for its features, photos, and performance, but the usefulness of a 42x zoom lens is debatable.

Purchased P510 as Replacement for P500
4 Star Review By HiTechPete on Adorama - Sep 3, 2013

I purchased the P510 as a warranty replacement for a P500 I bought used that was defective after 1 month of use. The P510 is a factroy refurbished unit and also got the Mack 3 yr extended warranty to avoid any future problems that might come down the road. Overal the P510 is a better camera than the P500. The optics are noticably clearer, and the electronics are faster by far, and easy to use in manual mode, excellent autofocus. The GPS is not as useful as I'd thought, since co-ordinates are not available by any display on the camera but only in the metafile after download. Also the GPS sattellites are not showing as available when other GPS devices can pick up 2-4 sattelites. The GPS always on shortens battery life considerably. If you want at real GPS device, get a wrist watch for $40. Overall very satisfied with the P510 picture taking quality.

nice travel camera
3 Star Review By olimacsajor on Adorama - Aug 1, 2013

drawbacks: 1. out of date firmware. its menus are so 2004. this is very easy to fix, and could help with another drawback, 2. 8 seconds is not long enough for a manual shutter speed. not for a camera like this. 3. manual aperture only lets you take it to f/8 and again, for a camera like this, an f/16 would not be expecting too much. 4. the viewfinder is almost useless. forget to manual focus with it. 5. the charger must be an inside joke from nikon. plug the camera to the wall? the first time i see this. you better be able to keep your eyes on the camera for 4 whole hours if you're not home. 6. i don't care about the gps, but if you do, you should know it's not precise. at all. and you need an external program to actually read it. if it gets to lock a position. the great things about this camera: 1. awesome build. sturdy. quite hefty but that's expected and even desired on something this big. 2. awesome zoom. really. i'm taking the nicest shots of the moon, to give you a clue. dead easy to frame and take a good quality pic of something quite far away, without having to crop an image. 3. fantastic quality pictures. even if you do need to crop. getting surprisingly good results with photoshop. as good with low light as any other non-dslr. 4. decent battery life, provided you don't waste it on the gps. on the other hand, a sub-par battery indicator. that, again, could be solved with a firmware upgrade. 5. light and versatile. imagine a dslr and lenses that cover 24mm to 1000mm. put that in a little over a pound. and fast. 6. big variety of modes, scenes and little useful tools.

5 Star Review By MisterEd on Adorama - Jun 18, 2013

The P510 (refurbished by Nikon) is a great deal! I own 2 Nikon D5100's with several lenses (35mm; 18-270mm; 150-500mm)which yield excellent results but all that equipment is difficult to transport when flying. The P510 with it's 16MP sensor, and 42X optic

A lovely camera . . . . . .when it works !
1 Star Review By member KeithdeJong - Apr 27, 2013

Strengths: It's many features.

Weakness: The ON / OFF button.

I am a 45 year plus user of Nikon equipment and cameras and this is the first Nikon that is causing me grief. .In over 50% of trying to activate the camera with the main button, it WILL NOT WORK.Enquiries "on line" came back suggesting this may be a humidity problem but the camera has never been exposed to extreme temperatures or humidity (Specifications say below 45C and 85% humidity)since I bought it in Netherlands about 9 months ago.Unfortunately I live in Australia and the 2 year warranty is not valid here.Have been in contact with the retailer and Nikon in Netherlands. My work often takes me to Europe and I will go and see them and hope they will do the right thing : repair or replace. Also hope this is just a "dud" and I have been unlucky with this particular camera and it's not an issue with the P510 at large.. Problem is that sometimes it works OK.
