Nikon Coolpix L4
3 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Sep 7, 2006

Though it is in the same family as the previously reviewed L2 and L3, the Nikon Coolpix L4 is different. Its 4.0 megapixel CCD sensor does a decent job, but its output quality is only equal to 5x7 printing without noticable blurring from anti-noise processing. Its body is still as handsome as the others, but the 3x Nikkor optical zoom protrudes from the camera body even when closed, and does not appear to be up to the L3's higher standard. The Nikon L4's lens is also slow and noisy when zooming out to the full 3x. While automatic controls were impressive, there's very little manual override on the Nikon Coolpix L4, particularly relating to ISO light sensitivity adjustment. Still, the Nikon L4 has several handy features, including Nikon's D-Lighting, Face Priority AF, Best Shot Selector, and 14 scene modes. Like its bretheren, the Nikon L4 is slow, lagging behind some of its competitors in shot-to-shot speed and overall shutter response. With the price hovering at around $120, it still does a decent job and would make a great first choice for kids. If you need a very inexpensive digital camera and only plan to print 4x6 images, see the full review at www.imaging-resource.com for more on the Nikon Coolpix L4.

Nikon Coolpix L2, L3 and L4 First Impressions Review
5 Star Review  Digitalcamerainfo.com - Dec 31, 1969

Some might call the new Nikon Coolpix L2, L3 and L4 “budget” cameras, though Nikon actually refers to them as their “Life” series. They provide sensors of 6, 5.1, and 4 megapixels respectively, and still offer good functionality with Nikon’s Exclusive Feature System for a price as low as $149.95, in the case of the L4. (The L3 lists for $199.95 and the L2 goes for $249.95.) All three cameras also have 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and 2-inch LCDs of varying resolutions. Designed to compete with Canon’s popular A-series cameras, all three new models in Nikon’s L-series take easy to replenish AA batteries. To make them easier for beginners to use, the Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) have been redesigned and the cameras feature 15 or more scene modes, including four with Scene Assist which display framing guides to make shots easier to compose. They are all available this month.

Pretty good camera!
4 Star Review   By member mikesay98 - Jun 30, 2006

Strengths: nice pictures, good size

Weakness: could use a few more options

The camera's a good camera if you're looking for an entry-level one, but it does lack some of the bells and whistles that other cameras close to its caliber have. Overall, though, a nice camera.

Awesome
5 Star Review   By member Bernie1967 - Jun 18, 2006

Strengths: user-friendly, compact, takes wonderful photos.

Weakness: internal memory capacity is only 9 photos

If you're looking for a value-priced, yet awesome piece of equipment, look no further. The Nikon CoolPix L4 is not only an excellent means to introduce one to the wonderful world of digital photography, it is also a very high-quality piece of electronic equipment. The pictures it takes are as vivid as one could hope for! An important note: Because the internal memory capacity is only nine (9) photos, a memory card is a MUST, particularly if you take vacations. My recommendation would be to purchase at least a 512MB card, which will store approximately 256 photos.

great camera
4 Star Review   By member cfeilong - Jun 3, 2006

Strengths: nice shape, sharp LCD, great pictures

Weakness: low resolution

I have obtained this camera for almost a month. I like it very well so far. I shot more than 100 pictures, and printed out about 20 of them. Looks very impressive both in the computer or the print-outs. Camera itself looks great too.

Good
4 Star Review   By member godman - May 31, 2006

Strengths: compact, inexpensive, nice lense

Weakness: Focus at dark. Operation is not as good as Canon

I bought this nikon camera with another printer bundle. The price is acceptable for a beginner. The picture is good, but when the light is not enough, it is hard to focus.

Strengths: compact

Weakness: None so far

This camera is very good take pictures with size 4x6. Easy to carry where ever you go. Need to have couple of pairs of extra AA rechargable batteries. The price I paid for this camera is around $140 with free printer. For this price this is very good camera.

Nikon Coolpix L4 Digital Camera
4 Star Review   By member mamabake - May 23, 2006

Strengths: It's a very small, compact camera, which is nice. Takes nice pictures. Zoom is good, too.

Weakness: Would be a much better camera if it had an AC adapter. The AA batteries just don't last very long.

It is a good camera for the price. I would recommend this camera to the first time digital camera buyer. This camera is easily figured out, too. Very simple to use and takes nice pictures.

It's OK for a budget buy
3 Star Review   By member eatwallet - May 22, 2006

Strengths: small size; low price for a 4M camera

Weakness: picuture quality not that great

I purchased this camera because I am satisfied with my old Nikon coolpix 3700 camera. Surprisingly, I found this camera is cheaper than my old 3700 but with higher resolution (4M vs. 3M). It turned out that this new model is OK, but not much better than my old one.

Coolpix L4 Digicam
4 Star Review   By member mkoc77 - May 21, 2006

Strengths: sleek, 4MP, 2" LCD, 2AA battery

Weakness: no sound

This is a very compact camera with lots of features. I have been using it for the last ten days and I am pleased to get this. One of the features that I most like is the usage of battery, which is two-AA. This may not be true for other users. However, this very important especially for vacations. You can find AA batteries at any grocery stores which is convenient. In addition, the screen size is big enough to preview the images. By the way, I bought this from Staples with free HP printer. I have printed several of my pictures and the quality is good. The only drawback is that video capture has no sound. Other than hat great for entry level.

not bad for a mid-range camera
4 Star Review   By member flyguy5187 - May 20, 2006

Strengths: good detail qulaity, durable, worth its money

Weakness: could be made less bulky, better zoom

the nikon l4 digital camera is not a bad camera considering it costs less than $150. It takes quality pictures and is manufactured from a well-known photo imaging company. I personally dont find this camera that attractive and extraordinary but for something less than $150, what else can you ask for.

Nikon Coolpix L4
5 Star Review   By member truong_99 - May 12, 2006

I, too, bought this camera as a replacement for a previous digital camera. My Olympus D-450 was flawless - at only 1.3 megapixels, the quality of the photos (even 8x10 enlargements) was superb and it was extremely easy to use. However, there was the issue of those mini-megapixels, the camera's age (7 years) and size (it was getting too big to schelp around handily). I've had this little Nikon for 15 hours and there's nothing I don't know how to do on it at this point, it's that easy to set up and use. Photo quality is wonderful. I have a couple of 256mb memory cards on order and will likely run out and get yet another, bigger, card today. I take lots of pictures, and with a major vacation coming up in 6 weeks, I'll be taking lots and lots more pictures. A big selling point for me was the slightly larger viewing screen (2"). 1.5 inches in some of the compact digital cameras is just TOO small. FYI, for those of you who quibble about downloading pictures from the camera (any camera) to your computer, get yourselves a memory card reader. Not only does it save your batteries, the download speed will astonish you. I have a SanDisk ImageMate 12; that means it reads 12 different types of cards/memory sticks. It runs off the USB port in your computer, so there are no batteries involved. It's inexpensive and well worth it. To sum up, this little Nikon is easy to use, produces great photos and I look forward to many years of faithful service - I hope! - from it. And the price! - 1/3 of what I paid for the old Olympus for many more features. This one is a winner in my book.

Excellent Compact Point-and-Shoot
5 Star Review   By member vijaymtech - May 10, 2006

Strengths: Nice compact camera View screen

Weakness: No AC adapter

This camera is 4 megapixels, takes video as well as still shots. Plus, the smaller size of the Nikon, makes it easier to carry along. The viewing screen also improves the ability to take pictures more easily than looking through a small viewfinder. I was very pleased with the movie mode, which takes crystal clear videos. This is a great feature to have, nonetheless, for those moments where you might want to capture some video footage. Then only drawback to this camera, which is very minor, is that it does not come with an AC adaptor, which I would want to use when transferring pictures from the camera to the computer, so as to save the batteries.

Strengths: compact, great photo quality

I am very impressed with the ease of use and the picture quality of this camera. This camera is 4 megapixels, takes video as well as still shots. The smaller size of the Nikon, as compared with the others, makes it easier to carry along. I purchased a 256MB memory card to store more photos. The viewing screen also improves the ability to take pictures more easily than looking through a small viewfinder. I was very happy with the movie mode, which takes crystal clear videos. All in all, this a great camera, easy to use, and takes impressive pictures.

BEST BUY... EVER (or at least for now)
4 Star Review   By member mutt55 - May 4, 2006

Strengths: Easy to use, compact, price, large screen and nikon line with nikkor lens...

Weakness: no view finder, hard to view the screen in sunlight and drains batteries too quick (must get rechargables)

I was pleasantly surprised by the recent release of this nikon. I bought it for a gift and upon their request, I learned to use it for them but it was so simple. All functions are the same as the higher lines from nikon and the pictures are excellant. The case itself though is in between the good & bad (not flimsy like the equivalent priced cameras from fuji or kodak but not as secure as the cases on the canons). Overall this camera is a great deal. I paid 149 at a local best buy store because I needed it at the last minute but the camera sells at Beach Camera for only $118 & that includes tax & shipping. If you are worried about purchasing online, well they are highly recommended by ALOT of reviews & I have already bought (2) much more expensive cameras from them.

Coolpix L4
4 Star Review   By member MrJerms - Apr 26, 2006

Strengths: Price, picture quaility, descent LCD size

Weakness: Little heavy, no sound when recording video

For the price, it's an excellent buy. The camera takes descent pictures. It lags a little between shots. Takes good video, but it doesn't record sound. Basic controls, easy to figure out. The camera is light weight...until you put the batteries in. Has a 2" LCD which makes viewing your pictures a little easier. An excellent recommendation for the beginner. If you want more manual options and advanced features, move on.

Great camera
5 Star Review   By member dshpinel - Apr 24, 2006

Strengths: Quality components, optical zoom

Weakness: AA batteries, no sound in video mode

This is an entry level camera with same components as higher priced cameras. I love the quality of the pictures that come out from this camera. One positive thing that I haven't seen in other cameras is that you can choose different language for menu. It was useful for me because I bought this camera as a gift for my father, and it's much easier for him in his native language.

good product
5 Star Review   By member respseller - Apr 17, 2006

Strengths: compact, inexpensive, nice lense, takes good pictures

for the price, this is a great camera. 4 mp takes very nice pictures for 4 * 6 for sure. I have not tried 8 * 11 yet. color is very nice. Although, video does nto have sound functionality, it has resolution of 640 x 320, which is very nice. Highly recommended!

Good Camera
4 Star Review   By member jkalyan - Apr 7, 2006

Strengths: Compact camera

Weakness: AA Batteries , good for only 4*6 inch prints

Its a entry level model in digital photography with a really cool price. It uses high-quality components like a 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens and a bright 2.0-inch LCD with in-camera image-improvement features, in lightweight and compact bodies. I would highly recommend this camera who are entering into the digital photography.

CoolPix L4
3 Star Review   By member gwenevir - Mar 28, 2006

Strengths: Small and Compact

Weakness: Double AA Batteries

Coolpix L4 is great for taking pictures 4x6 which is enough for me when i travel. It's small and compact. However, i did not like the AA battery which makes it a little heavier. According to its quality, I don't need pictures bigger than 4 x 6 so 4 MP is enough and the pictures come out good. The price is also not expensive compared to other brands. The use of an SD card is also helpful because it seems like a lot of cameras use them instead of compact flash.
