Fujifilm FinePix S1800 Review
3.5 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Dec 31, 1969

Among the smallest superzoom digital cameras on the market, the Fujifilm FinePix S1800 and S2550 don't overreach in terms of zoom, making both fun cameras that turn out pretty good pictures. Their 18x zooms range from 28-504mm, an impressive range for such a small camera. Both the Fujifilm S2550 and the S1800 have a 12-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch LCD, and the ability to capture HD video (720p). The only thing that separates them is a product name and an HDMI port (the S2550 has one; the S1800 does not). Neither digital camera represents the pinnacle of technology, but both are good for long-zoom snapshots when size, weight and cost are of primary importance. Read our review for more on the Fujifilm FinePix S2550 digital camera; or if you don't think you'll need the HDMI port, you can save a few bucks by choosing the Fujifilm S1800.

4 Star Review  photographyblog.com - May 10, 2010

The new Fujifilm FinePix S1800 super-zoom is the cheaper relative of the S2500HD, with the only difference being the lack of an HDMI port. Competitively priced at less than £175 / $200, the 12 megapixel S1800 offers a very versatile 18x lens, 3 inch LCD screen, full manual control and HD movie recording. FujiFilm FinePix S1800
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - May 5, 2010

The FujiFilm FinePix S1800 is one of two advanced digital cameras (S1800, S2550HD) released in early 2010. It features a 12MP CCD sensor, an 18x wide-angle optical zoom lens, a large 3” high-contrast LCD, and an electronic viewfinder. It’s not quite worthy of being labeled an SLR, but the S1800 does provide high-resolution images throughout the focal range, from 28mm wide-angle up to 504mm telephoto. It also supports 720p video capture and includes an NTSC/PAL output, although an optional FujiFilm HD Player (HDP-L1) can be purchased and then used to watch recorded content on an HDTV set. Additional Information Additional features include an Instant Zoom that immediately crops a long-distance photo; Automatic Face/Smile/Blink Detection, and Auto Picture Rotation. Features FujiFilm S Series Advanced Digital Camera 18x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens 12.2MP CCD Sensor 3.0” LCD Display 720p Video Recording 1080p Still Capture NTSC/PAL Video Out Instant Zoom Automatic Face/Smile/Blink Detection Auto ... PROS: (1) uses easy to find AA batteries - great for when you forget backups and need to get replacements right away (2) 18x wide angle zoom lens (3) affordable price (4) capable of recording video in 720p high definition (5) " LCD display as well as an electronic viewfinder ... CONS: (1) not compatible with a large variety of SD cards (2) recorded video is quite noisy (3) Significant field distortion, but expected for the price point

User Reviews
Great pictures, horrible video
2 Star Review

Strengths: Clear pictures, ease of use, inexpensive compared to other brands

Weakness: Camera noise blocks all other sound in video

I tried the video function on this camera and immediately sent it back. Just the running noise of the camera in video mode was loud enough to eliminate any other sound in the room. If you use the zoom while filming, forget any other sound in the area. That said, if all you want are the still pictures, those were very pretty, and overall the camera was very easy to use. For me, I use the video function a lot so the noise was enough for me to not keep it.
