Boasting a whopping 50x optical zoom range (24-1200mm equivalent) and excellent image quality for its class, the Canon SX50 may not only be the company's finest megazoom offering to date, but also the best megazoom we've ever tested. Bought it for Wildlife photography
4 Star Review   By glater on Adorama - Nov 12, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I'm not a professional, just enjoy taking pictures. I mainly bought the SX50 for wildlife photos, mostly whitetail bucks, birds, etc. I haven't been satisfied with my Panasonic 100-300mm lens & didn't like having all the lens weight on the tripod scocket of my GX1, since the lens doesn't have a tripod collar. I bought this camera, after being able to examine a friend of mine's SX30. I've only used it around the house, but will give it a workout over the thanksgiving holidays, at a friend's ranch in South Texas. I love the fast focus, incredible zoom range, and image stabilization. I've included a couple of pics from my backyard testing, both taken at about 30 yds, handheld. Sure, it's a small sensor point & shoot, but I'm not trying to put a man on the moon, just trying to document what I see. It's not my main camera and will only be used for wildlife.

The range is GREAT
4 Star Review   By toomanyboats on Adorama - Oct 15, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

An extremely wide focal range makes this camera pretty special. I also like the swivel/flip out screen so I can frame the shot from over my head, and I don't have to lie in the dew-filled grass to shoot the low angles. After I've used it more, I will have more to add (for sure) - but so far, "I likey." I was a bit put-off to discover I needed to purchase a special Canon adapter to use any filters. This meant I also needed to buy an additional lens cap, because the original would no longer fit. I'm used to my DSLR lenses using the same size filter as the original cap, so all this was new and annoying. I was also surprised at having to buy the USB adapter as a separate purchase. With previous Canon DSLR purchases, this was included in the box. Maybe that is not the case with non-DSLR cameras. Now that these annoyances are behind me, I can enjoy the camera. Because of its wide focal range, it will probably become my "grab camera". It packs a lot in its small size.

Unbelievable Versatility
4 Star Review   By Spike on Adorama - Aug 25, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I have had this camera for over 2 months now and it can take some amazing pictures. I shoot photography for our local community paper and yesterday I shot about 200 shots at our annual summer festival. I wasn't surprised at some of the close shots but that IS super zoom can really get out there and get some long-range candid shot. You can literally sit in a chair in the middle of a crowdwd festival and get super shots, time after time...the one drawback that is frustrating is the slight pause there is when you click on a shot...you miss the exact moment the great shot comes and goes so unlike my SLR where you get the shot instantly. This camera is small and you have to be careful when handling or you will activate or deactivate a program you don't want. I don't know how many times I've mistakenly activated the 10-second timer but you look like a fool when you set up a shot and everyone is posing and the delay comes on! You lose spontaneity.
