4 Star Review Imaging Resource - Dec 31, 1969

Iconic and capable at the same time, the PowerShot 520 HS represents quite an evolution in Canon's classic ELPH design. Duplicating the same diminutive shape and size as its spiritual predecessors, the Canon 520 offers a 12x zoom ranging from 28-336mm with optical image stabilization. Its 3-inch LCD has a higher resolution of 461K-dots, and its simple control set and intelligent exposure modes make getting good stills and videos easy. Read our review for all the details!

Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS (Black)
3 Star Review cnet.com - Mar 29, 2012

THE GOOD: The Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS is a good-looking camera thats remarkably compact for its 12x zoom lens. THE BAD: The 520 HS button layout takes some adjusting to, its battery life is relatively short, and its photo and movie quality are disappointing given the cameras price tag. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon PowerShot Elph 520 HS is a good choice for those already happy with their smartphones photos and movie clips, but looking for a cute little camera with a long zoom and faster performance.

4 Star Review By Va Photographer on Adorama - Apr 8, 2013

they say the best camera is the one you are carrying. I lose too many shots by not slinging my 7D/24-105 around my neck. This is a nice pocket camera. Smaller than a deck of cards. Fits easily into front pocket. Great 12X optical zoom, with digital post to 48X. functional IS. Best feature is the low light handheld which lays up to 4 snaps down to creae a single image. I shot indoor theater at full zoom and the results are great. No blur, loss of image quality. Takes very good video in regular or super speed to allow slo-mo playback. Only downside is short battery life. My twin batteries in the 7D grip last forever, this tiny NB-9L battery only goes maybe 100 shots. Inexpensive extra batteries are a MUST. I have an original ELPH APC camera. This is actually smaller, same boxey shape, but light years ahead in features and quality. This would not be my only camera, but it is the only camera I would have when my DSLR is at home.
