Canon EOS 5D Mark III Review
5 Star Review  Imaging Resource - Jan 8, 2013

No one was voted into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame this year, mainly due to the taint of performance enhancing drugs. But when it came to adding another model to the pantheon of legendary DSLRs, the Canon 5D Mark III -- introduced last spring -- earned IR's full support in just its first year of eligibility. And, yes, you can call the Canon 5D Mark III a mid-range DSLR on steroids, and we have no problem with that. As one of the true superstar DSLRs launched in past year, the Canon 5D Mark III deserved close scrutiny, and it's lived up to our high expectations. Replete with new features, the Canon 5D Mark III's most important ones are its full-frame sensor, whose resolution Canon kept to a conservative 22.3 megapixels, and its fast and accurate autofocus system that was brought over from the Canon 1D X. The image quality we see is good enough that we can say Canon's covered the right bases first, so you needn't worry too much about image quality, even as ISO rises. There are issues, as with any system, including more limited dynamic range by comparison, and default settings for noise reduction and sharpening are a bit extreme in JPEGs, but most of that can be worked around or avoided by shooting raw. And while we wish the EOS 5D Mark III included a pop-up flash, the camera's low-light performance is stunning, so shooting in ambient light is easier than ever. Our comprehensive, exhaustive review includes our own hands-on take of the Canon 5D Mark III, two separate shooter's reports from professional photographers, and of course our detailed, objective testing of image quality and camera performance conducted in the IR lab. Read why we think the Canon EOS 5D Mark III is such a special camera that it's a safe buy regardless of how you'll use it. It's easy enough for enthusiasts to capture stunning family portraits and travel photos, but sophisticated enough to satisfy the demands and needs of the pros.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Review
4.5 Star Review  ephotozine.com - May 10, 2012

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is an excellent camera, capable of taking stunning photos in a wide variety of situations and has a wealth of lenses available to go with it. The 5D Mark III may not be as ground-breaking as the 5D Mark II, but this is simply because the Mark II was so good, and where the Mark III has been improved is noticeable.

Canon EOS 5D MkIII Hands-on Review
4.5 Star Review  photo.net - Jul 25, 2012

On March 2nd 2012 Canon announced the Canon EOS 5D MkIII, (compare prices) as an upgrade of – but not a replacement for – the EOS 5D MkII. Among the major new features of the EOS 5D MkIII are: •A new 22.3MP CMOS sensor with a gapless microlens, 8 channel readout and low noise •A new 61 point AF system with 41 cross sensors (same as EOS 1D X) with AF to -2EV •A 63 Zone iFCL metering (same as EOS 7D) •Native ISO settings of 100-25600 with expansion to 50-102400 •A new Digic 5+ processor (30% faster than Digic 5, 17x faster than Digic 4) •6fps continuous shooting •In-camera HDR. 3 images taken at +/- 3 stop intervals with in-camera image alignment Currently (July 2012), the EOS 5D MkIII sells for around $3450 and the EOS 5D MkII sells for around $2100 There were a host of other features that were upgraded or added, but the new sensor, new AF system and new processor are the major advances which enable many of the other upgrades such as faster shooting (6 fps vs 3.9 fps) and more extensive in-camera processing. With a processor 17x faster than...

Canon 5D MarkIII - not sure about this
3 Star Review   By Kynn on Adorama - Oct 29, 2013

Fantastic images, but Having freeze up problems.. I own a MARKII and never had any problems. Mark III has locked up a dozen times during shoots and I've only had this camera a week. Web search indicates this does happen with MARKIII and appears to be related to SD card use. Also, TERRIBLY slow performance on writes to the SD card.. I'm ALWAYS waiting on the camera to finish writing to the card. FYI.. the SD card was one of the freebies from Adorama.. 32 GB SANDISK. On another note, the 16GB CF cards I own do NOT work in the MARK III (even after formatting) but work fine in my MarkII and 7D. A little frustrated with Canon at the moment. Firmware is 1.2.1 which is latest from Canon - needs FIXED!!

Incredible Upgrade for 5D Mark II
5 Star Review   By BradMoorePhotography on Adorama - Oct 14, 2013

I've been using a 7D and 5D Mark II for the past 2 years for Sports, Weddings, and Still Photography. This is my Favorite thus far. Great camera. I upgraded to the 5D Mark III in July, and have taken close to 8K photos-No regrets. I'm loving this AF especially for sports action-night games. Image quality is so much better.

Canon 5D Mark III
5 Star Review   By DaveB on Adorama - Oct 1, 2013

I recently purchased a Canon 5D Mark III. I use the camera for nature photography. The camera produces awesome images. They are sharp and clear. The colors are vibrant. I am still learning to use the cameras many features. One can blend images and do HDR in camera. The cameras controls are organized well and easy to use. I have a 7D and found the transition seamless. The camera gets my highest endorsement.

Perfection
5 Star Review   By Momaziggy on Adorama - Aug 6, 2013

I upgraded from a Classic 5D to the 5D Mark III so this review is based on my upgrade. First the ISO is unbeatable compared to my Classic! I can now get natural light shots that I wasn't able to get before. And the new AF system is amazing. As a person who shoots with very large apertures and toggles my AF points while shooting fast moving lifestyle shots, I was concerned if I would be able to toggle so many AF points and fast enough. But I had it down in 1 day. Canon did a great job giving you options on how you toggle by choosing zones or a singular point. I still need practice on speed but I am able to toggle a single AF point fairly quickly and will only get faster. The FPS really surprised me as well. I cannot say one bad thing about this camera. I would give it 10 stars if I could!

I bought this camera as an upgrade to my 3 year old 7D and I have absolutely no regrets. The focusing system gives you so many options and the picture quality is nothing short of amazing. High ISO performance is spectacular - even shot some at 12800 that

I find no fault with this camera. Outstanding particularly is low-light performance, which has been a life-saver for me in venues not allowing flash. I do not normally shoot with higher ISO (e.g., 2400-6400), but being able to do so has made a world of di

Outstanding camera, Great Canon Quality

Canon EOS 5D Mark III (Body-only)
5 Star Review   Crutchfield.com

Crutchfield has collected 2 user reviews for this product with an average rating of 5.0 out of 5 stars. The most recent reviewer said, "This upgrade from the Mark II is much more significant than what I had been led to believe by the reviews. The image quality, color, & sensor sensitivity is far beyond the 5D Mark II & will take your work to the next level. The results I've seen in the weddings & senior pictures since switching from the Mark II has brought more positive comments than I'd ever imagine. I know it's not cheap.........but the good stuff isn't"
