Sony DCR-DVD650
3 Star Review  cnet.com - Oct 13, 2009

THE GOOD: Simple operation; records to DVDs or Memory Stick flash media. THE BAD: Soft video; noticeable purple fringing on subjects; DVDs not ideal storage medium. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD650 offers an all-in-one, on-the-go way to capture standard-def video and burn it to a DVD, but hard-disk-drive and flash-memory models are otherwise a better option.

Sony Handycam DCR-DVD650
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 22, 2009

The Sony Handycam DCR-DVD650 is a standard definition DVD camcorder from Sonys 2009 lineup and is a step up from the DCR-DVD610. The camcorder features hybrid movie recording directly to DVD or Memory Stick Duo media for increased flexibility and is compatible with a variety of DVD formats including DVD+RW. It includes a professional Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar zoom lens for 60x optical and 2000x digital zoom and utilizes Sonys SteadyShot image stabilization to reduce blur. The DCR-DVD650 is designed with a 2.7" touch LCD screen that rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles. It includes a 1/8" advanced HAD CCD imager for crisp video and still images and has a built-in zoom microphone to add realistic sound to the footage. The DCR-DVD650 differs from its predecessor, the DCR-DVD610, since it has a more powerful zoom lens and has wider compatibility with more DVD formats. Features/Specs 60x optical/2000x digital zoom Professional Carl Zeiss® Vaio-Tessar® zoom lens SteadyShot ... PROS: (1) also allows you to record to Sony Memory Stick flash-based storage cards (2) affordable price (3) 2.7-inch touchscreen display (4) fairly compact (5) easy to use ... CONS: (1) recording to DVD doesnt make sense when flash and hard disk based storage is so capacious and affordable in comparison (2) Sony Memory Stick cards are more expensive, less capacious and more difficult to find compared to more common formats such as SDHC (3) can only take small 640 x 480px still shots due to its smaller 1/" non-HD 640K sensor (4) standard definition only (5) footage contains lots of digital artifacts and noise if viewed at full resolution
