Description
Realizing both high performance and high image quality, this high-speed standard zoom lens offers 24mm to 70mm coverage together with Tamron's exclusive VC (Vibration Compensation) system and a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor for fast and quiet autofocus. Since this is an SP (Super Performance) series lens, the optical design places the highest priority on image quality with the extensive use of special optics, including three LD (Low Dispersion) lenses and two XR (Extra Refractive Index) lenses. The result is best-in-class image quality that reduces various type of distortion. In addition, the F/2.8 high speed and the circular diaphragm construction enable this lens to achieve beautiful out-of-focus effects while the high resolution gives finely detailed images. In a Tamron first, a simple drip-proof structure is also featured. This full-spec standard zoom lens responds fully to the inspiration of the photographer.

Nice lens!
4 Star Review   By Ann B. on Adorama - Oct 25, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I have used this lens to photograph events and portraits. The auto focus and image stabilization work great. I researched 3 24-70 2.8 lenses: Nikon, Sigma, and Tamron. I am happy with my decision to go with the Tamron.

Over priced for Sony mount version
3 Star Review   By St. Johns River kayaker on Adorama - Sep 24, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I purchased this lens and a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and ran a side by side comparison. The two lenses both performed extremely well however one is about 1/3 the cost of the other. The biggest selling point on this lens is its vibration reduction which, on the Sony mount version, is absent. Why charge the same amount for this lens with or without this expensive feature? The only advantage of this lens over the 28-75 is the additional 4 mm on the wide end. I found this hardly worth the more than doubling of the cost. Also on the down side is the 82 mm filters which are much more expensive than the 67 mm used by the similarly performing but less expensive alternative. Finally, the size and weight of this lens are significantly greater than the 28-75 making is a less attractive walk around lens. So, what's great: the performance and quality - very sharp, excellent contrast, solid build and weather seals. Down side - way overpriced in the Sony mount version. If you're shooting Sony, go with the 28-75mm - and if you have more money than you know what to do with, buy two of them with polarizing filters and you'll still be ahead. I returned this lens and kept the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and I'm a happy camper!
