This is the lens I keep on my camera at all times because it is versitle and has a wide range of uses from low light to bright sunlight. I have taken over 3,000 images with this lens and to date have not had any problems.

A Great Lens (when it worked)
3 Star Review   By Kickin Back Gar on Adorama - Sep 12, 2011    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

This lens WAS great for scenery and low light indoor photography. In museums and shows where a flash was prohibited the lens worked great. Also worked great for portraits. It does lack the little extra "reach" to make it a little more versitle lens (16-75

Good basic lens
4 Star Review   By Gotcha on Adorama - Sep 4, 2011    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

This lens is OK. It does a nice job, but end up doing a little manipulation to the photo in my AcdSee using the sharpening. Use for outdoor team photos and it works ok.

5 Star Review   By Ji the Pentax enthusiast on Adorama - May 9, 2010    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

This is the 'as good as it gets' zoom lens for Pentax. I've used DA 16-45mm before and tried a DA 17-70mm as well. But in the end the DA* 16-50mm was IT. The versatile f/2.8 with weather seals and silent SDM really makes a huge difference over the lens th

5 Star Review   By Islander on Adorama - Apr 11, 2010    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

Purchased lens to replace kit lens that came with K-7. So far I'm pleased with the images. I recently ordered the 50-135mm f2.8 to complement this and with these two lenses I will have everything I need.

Image quality is great
4 Star Review   By graydog on Adorama - Aug 19, 2009    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

The lens operates very smoothly. Although it's a little heavy, a lot of glass. But I'm very please with the images. 77mm filter size makes for expensive filters.

I own the legendary 50-135mm and in my last photo-shoot I had to stand too far back, though the images were still stellar, I just wanted better close-ups for groups of people and this lens does it with distinction. Initially I agonized about quality contr

SUCH a great lens!

I traded in my 31ltd for this lens, to keep it's bigger brother, the DA*50-135 company in my bag. Both lenses are superb zooms, with a constant aperture throughout the focal range. While the 50-135 has IF, this lens extends, but with no creep. I needed th

Shoot in the rain
4 Star Review   By member kakaku - Aug 29, 2008

Strengths: Water and dust resistant, quiet auto focusing, seamless transition between auto/manual focusing

Weakness: high out-of-pocket cost, length changes as you zoom, not the sharpest lens at 16mm/F2.8

I bought this lens because I wanted to be able to shoot when it's raining. I did not want to give up taking pictures of my dream destinations just because it is raining, and using a plastic cover is too cumbersome. This lens is weather sealed and resistant against water and dust. So far I have only used it in a drizzle, but a friend of mine who has the same lens used it on a Niagara Falls tour boat and the lens survived massive splash of water.

Awesome Lens!!! (if you get a good one)
4 Star Review   By member jefftoe - Jun 10, 2008

Strengths: near silent focusing, outstanding IQ

Weakness: There have been some quality control issues with this lens.

I was hesitant to order this lens due to quite a bit of chatter on the internet regarding focusing issues with this lens. Mine is a little soft on the outer edges at 16-20mm if you really pixel peep.Other than that it is an amazingly sharp lens with great color reproduction. Its worth the $$$ if you get a good one.

Excellent lens
5 Star Review   By Walter Cossa on Adorama - Jun 2, 2008    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

Great focus mechanism, silent and fast. The image quality is outstanding. Great for landscape photography and family photos. Because of its size, the in-camera flash causes big shadow on the lower portion of the picture, it will require an external flash.

Nice build but average IQ
3 Star Review   By spot on Adorama - Mar 10, 2008    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

Weatherproof Design, nice build quality, Quickshift and noiseless AF are nice. Image Quality at open aperture is just on average level. Some issues with Front/Backfokus. Lenshood is sometimes tricky to mount.
