Camera Labs – Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens review
4 Star Review  cameralabs.com - Feb 15, 2007

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens delivers ultra wide angle coverage to EF-S compatible bodies like the EOS 400D / XTi and EOS 30D. Mounted on one of these bodies it offers an equivalent range of 16-35mm, covering all the popular wide angle focal lengths and allowing you to squeeze in bigger landscapes, buildings or group shots when you can’t step back any further. It’s also very well corrected, performing better in many respects than the EF 17-40mm lens does on a full-frame body. The USM focusing motor is also fast and quiet. It’s one of the most exciting and flexible lenses you can buy for a Canon EF-S body. Find out how the Canon EF-S 10-2mm lens compares against its closest rivals in our full review – and for a demonstration of its highlights, check out our video tour.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
3.5 Star Review  productwiki.com - Dec 14, 2011

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is a compact wide-angle lens built for the EOS 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D and Digital Rebel SLRs. The lens operates like the equivalent of a 16-35mm zoom, with the added ability to close-focus to 9.5 inches allowing subjects as small as 3.6 x 5.4 inches to fill the frame. Autofocus is fast and efficient, and focus can also be adjusted manually using a ring cam. Since the focusing system is internal, the lens does not need to extend when zooming. The circular aperture design allows for natural highlights, creating properly backlit effects even at two stops. Apertures, when set manually, will still stay constant from f/4.5 though to f/22. Features Wide-angle lens Fast AF, with manual focus ring Compact size Light weight Inner focusing system Circular aperture design Electronic diaphragm Focal Length & Maximum Aperture: 10 - 22mm; 1:3.5-4.5 Focus Adjustment: Inner focusing system, with focusing cam ... PROS: (1) ideal for indoor settings or working in tight groups as you can be fairly close and get everyone in the shot (2) ideal for outdoor wide-angled shots, catches an extremely wide view (3) generally a very sharp image every time (4) no light flaring or chromatic aberration (5) motor is extremely quiet and in most settings you usually wont hear it ... CONS: (1) too short even at max length to work in all settings, cant do everything (2) a bit of softening in the corners at 10mm

A must have lens for Italy
5 Star Review   By FrancoGuiseppe on Adorama - Oct 8, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

Contemplating for months the need to fill the wide angle void in my lens collection, I decided on the Canon 10-22mm a week before traveling to Italy and boy am I glad I did. I used it for more than 50% of my 2600 photos. While the 24-70mm and 70-200mm take awesome photos, I often find myself backing up to capture a scene. In order to capture the vast expanse of Piazza San Marco or even a complete building façade from the narrow passageways and squares of Venice, a wide angle is a must. At the Vatican, statues high above the Saint Peters Square call for the 70-200mm, the Statue of Saint Peter, 24-70mm, but to capture the grandness of the Basilica or the square itself a wide angle is essential. To capture the complete and elegant majesty of the Colloseum from within, the 10-22 captures to within a few degrees of everything in your eyesight and you need it all. With this lens on my 7D at the end of a table, I could capture all six of us dining without crowding in, plus the surrounding restaurant scenery. Simply priceless photos!! If you want to capture your vacation, you need this lens. I can't imagine traveling without it now.

An Excellent Wide Angle Zoom Lens
4 Star Review   By Farm Kid 47 on Adorama - Sep 3, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

This lens is the third leg of my lens group, having a Tamron 75-300mm telephoto and the standard Canon kit zoom lens for my Rebel T1a. I had planned on buying a new Tamron lens, but when I saw this E+ rated used Canon for about the same price, I decided on the Canon. It was a good decision. Sharp image, great color rendition, ultra-wide 10mm operation, good auto focus. The only thing it lacks is image stabilization, but I can deal with that by using a tripod. I'm expecting many years of good service from this outstanding lens.

Good glass and construction
4 Star Review   By JamesC the Diver on Adorama - Jul 23, 2013    ( See more reviews from Adorama )

I've owned 2 of these lenses, using them on a Canon 7D for landscape and underwater photography. I destroyed the first lens in a diving accident in Palau, and recently received the second one. The Good - The first lens that I had was tack sharp. - Relatively fast autofocus motor (USM) - Excellent at "close-focus wide angle" underwater photography! - 77mm filters, matches several of my other lenses. - Robust construction. Not quite as solid as an L, but pretty close. The Bad - Can spend a lot of time seeking in lower light. - The second lens that I recently purchased is back-focusing by a significant measure. I would have given it 5/5 stars if the second lens wasn't back-focusing so much.

This lens extends my reach, and provides super-scenics beyond the normal wide-angle range. As with any ultra wide angle, the specialty lens requires specialty attachments - with prices to match. Of course, the custom lens hood and "extra thin" 77mm filter
