Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
3 Star Review  productwiki.com - May 5, 2011

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens is a solid build but light in weight (705 grams) “L” Lens, as compare to Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L Lens, and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Lens.Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens combines professional design with optical quality. Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens has 8-blade aperture , which opens at constant f/4 at all focal length ranges, which assists in better color with better foreground/background blurr. This lens is narrow enough to be compatible with smaller lens size and weight, but wide enough to create some background diffusion in this focal length range, and does not require bright light for handling. However, this is a low light lens, which means one needs a flash while shooting indoors after the sunset. Canon’s Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) technology enables this lens the capability of fast focusing, in a ... PROS: (1) includes lens hood - improves image contrast, protects from flare, adds some protection (2) now includes image stabilization for up to 4 stops of improvement - especially important for a slower F/4 lens (3) excellent full frame sharpness starting from 135mm, even wide open (4) excellent control over CA, Coma and geometric distortion (5) USM - quiet, fast and accurate autofocus ... CONS: (1) image stabilization is noisy (2) double the price of the previous 70-200 F/4 L lens (3) sharpness lacking at the short end of the zoom range (4) slow maximum aperture - poorer when shooting in low light, trying to isolate a subject with DOF

Strengths: Crisp sharpness and amazing color with this lens. Nice lens hood and case are included.

Weakness: Tripod mount ring not included (Canon brand is expensive to purchase)

From the first photo I took with this lens, I was hooked! Amazing clarity compared to Tamron zoom lens I purchased previously. I will be using this lens for wildlife, marine and landscapes mostly. I use the lens on my Canon Rebel XSi and love it after having it only one day! Hats off to Canon for an L-series lens at a remarkable price for the quality.
