I wish I had just bought the 1.4

My 85mm is the main lens I use, and it is amazing in low light situations. This 50mm doesn't even compare. I should have just spent the extra money for the 1.4. On the positive side, it is very light weight.

Love this Nifty Fifty!

I originally bought this lens as I heard Canon was going to discontinue the 1:4 and reprice the 1:8 to higher than the 1:4 ( I am sure with better quality as well). The 1:4 and 1:2 were out of my price range and the reviews everywhere on the 1:8 were usually very high. Takes Me Back To My Photography Roots

My first 35mm film SLR came with the "standard lens" of the day, a 50mm f/1.8 lens. There were no zoom lenses then, or at least they weren't common. Love my Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II Lens!

I use this lens for day to day shooting with my Canon 40D. It's a great lens bc it gives clear and close shots and is easy to work with! It's great bc I am just now getting into photography and am learning all the different techniques.
