This is the first lens on the market to incorporate Canon's new Hybrid Image Stabilization Technology. Hybrid IS effectively compensates for both angular and shift camera shake during close-up shooting. The lens was developed to expand users' photographing range and allow a wider range of users to easily enjoy macro photography.

This 100mm macro lens is super sharp and offers creamy bokeh. I am enjoying this for lots of foliage and close up details shots of newborn's skin + details for portraiture. It is easy to use (as most lenses should be!) and has a nice weight to it. It's a big one! Adorama provided a great kit package as a gift for purchasing the lens from them which has been helpful. Feeling grateful!

I totally recommend
After reading a ton of reviews and general information about this lens, I took the leap and purchased. WOW - it does NOT disappoint! I love using it for macro flower shots and this is superb, clean and crisp. Worth every penny.

A lens worth having in your bag!
I've been enjoying taking photos of insects, flowers and lizards. The lens gives you the ability to capture the smallest details and beauty of your subject with crystal clarity. I can't think of anything negative about this lens.

I mainly use the lens (in manual focus) for macro and portrait. I am very pleased with the focusing, sharpness, bokeh, and consistency. The image stabilization allows me to hand hold the camera when needed, although I almost always use a tripod. I like the feel of the lens and smoothness of the manual focus. Overall, it was money well spent.

Crisp, easy to use--5 Star
I use the lens for macro photography, and for that it is superb. among other things, It has a selector switch that limits the focus to one of three ranges, speeding the focus process--especially important when shooting insects. The short version of this review: this is a really fine lens; the difference between my non- IS 100 macro and this one is very obvious in photo quality.
