Good little wine cooler
4 Star Review   By DSulkin on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2013

This wine cooler hs worked smoothly and consistently since installing it 4 months ago. I read the reviews about it being noisy, but that hasn't bee the case. It has run quietly since installation. It's not silent because it uses a compressor. The temperature has remain consistent. The construction could be better. The front kick plate is held on with sheet metal screws. I removed the to reverse the door, but could not replace them. For some reason the were too short after the door was reversed and I had to find replacements. Otherwise everything was fine.

Would not work.
1 Star Review   By Rusty on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2013

We purchased this unit in October 2012. By Freruary, 2013, it was making a loud poping noise and would not work. Service person came out and changed the thermostat. It lasted less than two months and it started popping again and not functioning. Got money back but had to dispose of unit. Very unsatisfactory product and experience.

Did not work from the beginning
1 Star Review   By lljm on Home Depot - Apr 1, 2013

Despite other negative reviews I went ahead an purchased this unit. It would not cool from day 1 and I had to return it. Too bad. It is a nice looking unit and it appears to be solidly built. I did not get a replacement unit due to my experience. Just to let everyone know, HD was very good about returning the unit with no hassles.

Nice for the price, but too many things I didn't like
2 Star Review   By Bubba on Home Depot - Feb 26, 2013

I had a (expensive-brand) built-in wine cooler that broke and a replacement was completely out of my budget. The Vissani seemed like the best low-priced unit based on the features and reviews, which are mostly negative for almost every brand. Because of the reviews, I purchased an extended warranty. Any comparison to my previous unit is unfair, since it is over three times the price, but it is what I had before so it had set my expectations. Regarding other reviewers complaints of uneven cooling in different sections, my previous unit's manual specifically tells you which sections are cooler (back and bottom) and warmer (front) so I do not consider that a defect in any way, just a shortcoming in the Vissani manual. Based on reviews, I removed the back and checked for any reason the fan or compressor might be noisy, and found everything satisfactory. The lower grill cover was very bent. This may have happened while trying to remove the unit from the packaging, but I don't know. It was definitely sitting on the Styrofoam in a way that bent it. I was able to straighten it somewhat by putting it on the carpet and stepping on the middle while pulling the bend out. It was still bent, but as mentioned by another reviewer, it is down low so it was tolerable. The door was very crooked. I considered reversing the door to see if it would be better, but in the process discovered that by pulling the door as much as possible while tightening the screws, that I could make it straighter, but not straight. Sine the unit is built-in and you only see the door, I un-leveled the unit with the adjustable feet to make the door appear straight when it was installed. This had the unfortunate side-effect of making the door slam into the cabinet while I was retrieving wine. One bit of obviously poor design is that there is no off switch. As soon as I plugged in the unit, it came on with no way to turn it off, so I slid it into the built-in position under the counter with it running. The owners manual suggests turning it off when not in use for an extended period, but this is not possible when built-in and the plug is behind it. The shelves slide out in a simple way, with a clever protrusion to prevent them falling and allowing the shelf to tilt. This is all true only when empty. Once I had wine on the shelves, they no longer slid freely, and the shelf was in danger of dropping out when slid forward. I was unable to add or remove wine bottles without shaking most of the bottles in the cooler. I set the thermostat to 52, and it never got below 57. I lowered it to 50, and it got to 55. Sensing a pattern, I lowered it to 47, and it promptly went to 48. Setting it to 49 let it fluctuate in the lower 50s. My previous unit did not have a digital thermostat, and I have no idea whether it fluctuated - I had simply set it to a position where I liked the temperature of the wine. I bought a thermometer and verified where the temperatures were colder/warmer, and that the fluctuation on the digital display was in fact understating the variation in other parts of the cooler. The real clincher in my unhappiness with the unit is how the wine bottles stack. My previous unit alternated the bottle position on shelves, so that a bottle was under the bottle two shelves above, and between the bottles on the shelf above. This lets you see the labels. The Vissani stacks them all above one another and you cannot see any labels. It also makes the fit for bottles much tighter to add or remove them. I've looked at pictures of other units and see that this is true of most brands. I hated this. Since pulling out the shelves shook everything, this was a deal-breaker for me and I began prowling craigslist and eBay for a unit like my old one but in my budget. The longer I owned the Vissani, the less disgruntled I became, and decided that if I could not find a used replacement within the 90 days of the return policy that I would keep it and could be happy with it. Fortunately, I found a used replacement like my old cooler and returned the Vissani for a full refund, including the warranty. Thank you Home Depot for your great return policy. I'm now a happy camper, and my used wine cooler, which has no warranty whatsoever, is steady at 52 degrees and I can see the labels. I recommend the Vissani only to someone who is unwilling to purchase a used cooler without a warranty, and whose budget cannot go substantially higher than this price point. (Wait for it to go on sale.) It's reasonably quiet, has the same bottle layout as most other brands, holds plenty of bottles, can be installed built-in, and does its job in its inexpensive way. I, however, am really happy I don't own it anymore.

Easy solve for the noise issue
4 Star Review   By winefan on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2012

I found (like some others) that removing the little plate across the bottom back made a huge improvement in the noise. It wasn't rattling or anything, but I think it was concentrating and reflecting all of the compressor noise right out the bottom front vents. It's really super quiet now without that plate on. I don't know for sure, but I don't think that plate is really necessary given nobody will have access to that area, and my old Magic Chef (older but similar design) didn't have one anyway. It seems to me the motor and fan were pretty quiet, as both are mounted in isolating rubber grommets or housings. So no vibrations are translated to the cabinet. Now with this very little mod, it's great and I hardly notice it when it's running. So far so good. One other note, I found I could only fit champagne bottles on the top rack and four bottles on the second from the bottom rack... wish I could do more... though that is 12 bottles.

The first one that was delivered did not cool from day 1, we returned it and received a replacement. The replacement has now stopped cooling after only having it for 8 months. I would not recommend it nor will I get another one. I will recommend to Home Depot they should stop stocking this piece of junk.

Good Value, Holds temp for Reds and Whites
4 Star Review   By MikeH630 on Home Depot - Nov 24, 2012

Bought on sale one week ago to replace a dead Magic Chef unit that lasted 5 years. Vissani is exactly same unit as my last Magic Chef. My new unit was very loud and took the advice of previous reviewer and took off back. I found a small wedge between the fan and fan bracket but problem is the cheap bracket. By adjusting the flimsy wedge and loosening the bracket screw, my unit is now very quiet. I do recommend this unit with this one caveat. Unit cools well but I don't have a thermometer to check top to bottom. Overall, good unit for the money but do unscrew the front bottom panel and clean every 6 months to reduce heat buildup. That might help it last a bit longer. VETERANS get a 10% discount at Home Depot so I got it at a great price!

Reasonable product for a reasonable price
4 Star Review   By AZSteveW on Home Depot - Jul 23, 2012

The cooler was easy to set up, and it was not difficult to change the door to the opposite side. It looks good and cools fairly well. While I haven't monitored it closely, it seems to run a few hours a day. It is noisy enough when it runs that I would not like it in my living room, but it is fine in my laundry room. It can hold close to the 50 bottles it is rated to hold, and most of the shelves can hold oversize Pinot bottles. An open question is its reliability. My previous wine cooler (not this brand) was quieter but would not hold oversize bottles except on one shelf, and it lasted less than 2 years. I purchased an additional 3-year warranty for this product from Home Depot for a very reasonable price. So far (2 weeks), I've had no need for service. All in all, a reasonable product, a good warranty and a great value.

Dead Compressor
1 Star Review   By fluf on Home Depot - Jun 29, 2012

Purchased unit in Feb. of 2008. The compressor stopped working four years later. It is under warranty but the labor to install a new one is over $500 if you can find anyone to do it. I guess a company can warranty a part knowing that no customer will want to spend more on the labor than on the cost of the original unit. I say, Buyer Beware.

Had the same problem as another user.
1 Star Review   By ted72 on Home Depot - Feb 25, 2012

The temperature varies quite a bit. I used an indoor-outdoor thermometer to check the accuracy of the setting. Here is what I found: With the temperature set at the default for red wine: **At the top of the unit, the temperature varied between 54 and 62 degrees **At the bottom of the unit, the temperature varied between 49 and 63 degrees With the temperature set at the default for white wine: **At the top of the unit, the temperature varied between 44 and 53 degrees **At the bottom of the unit, the temperature varied between 36 and 51 degrees. These measurements were taken with the cooler empty. So don't expect the temperature to be at all consistent from top to bottom nor consistent over time. The range of 15 degrees a the bottom for white wine is rather bad, I think. For long-term preservation of fine wines, the variation in temperature is as important as the temperature itself. The reason is that if the temperature varies, the bottles breathe more. That pulls in more air, which causes wines to degrade. Mitigating this somewhat is the fact that interior bottle temperature would not vary as quickly as the air in the cooler. Nonetheless, this cooler should be considered as a place to store wines several months but not for years, in my opinion.

3rd day of ownership and not cooling
1 Star Review   By Ted72 on Home Depot - Feb 24, 2012

Bought this item from HD on Feb 20 based on the reviews and I'm keeping it in a 72-75 degree kitchen. I let it cool overnight to adjust and the 2nd day, it seem to still be a little warm. The built in thermometer never showed the temperature I set it to and the temperature was always 5 degrees hotter then then thermometer i put . 3rd day, I set it to 43 and the cooler's thermometer was measuring 47 the whole time, but my own thermometer displayed 56 degrees. Turns out that it only cools the bottom 2 racks of wine and the top 3 racks have a 10+ degree difference. I called the company to report the problem and they offered to refer me to a tech under their warranty.. However, I think i should return the unit and find another one. Seems like these have a bad reputation.

Terrific Cooler for the Price
5 Star Review   By Bill on Home Depot - Feb 6, 2012

I bought this cooler as a Christmas gift to myself. It was on sale for 25% off, and there truly isn't another cooler on the market with this much capacity that can touch it for the price. I am using it as a built-in, and I love the fact that this one is specifically designed with a front vent, so it can be used either free-standing or built-in. I saw some other reviews complaining that the unit is loud, but I installed mine under a wet bar in my bedroom and you can't even hear it unless you are right next to it. It has only one zone, but I only stock red wines, so it's fine for me. There is only one unforeseen problem... now that I have it, I feel compelled to fill it. This "gift" is turning out to be much more expensive than I anticipated!

Great Unit
5 Star Review   By Mary on Home Depot - Dec 8, 2011

I had been looking at this cooler and planned on purchasing it based on previous reviews; however I was concerned about the issues others had listed with the noise. I found it online with an additional $50 off and free shipping. It arrived quickly and set up was easy. The temperature is perfect at 39 degrees but the top of the cooler is colder then the bottom. My only complaint is that half the bottles are in the back part of the cooler and it is not easy to see what is there without removing the front bottles.

Great for the price, we'll see about reliability
4 Star Review   By JTDIY on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2011

Found this on sale on Black Friday while looking for tools. I went to Pacific Sales to view better models but found that most were hundreds more for less capacity or thousands for more features and space. I came back for this unit. So far, it works well. After start up, it took overnight to bring a full load of 50 room temperature bottles down to the red wine temp (54). I switched to the white wine temperature that next morning and it's been running at 48-49 ever since. It's located in a vestibule next to the bedroom and is quiet enough that I don't hear it with the door closed; a little louder than a new dual compressor Thermador refrigerator just installed. I guess we'll see how long it lasts for $348.

I love this unit.i purchased this unit last year.I had seen many very expensive units that held just as much wine as this one.I figured it's worth the shot.It has been a wonderful edition to our kitchen. It does keep the wine at the right temperature.I don't know where the people complaining of noise put there unit, but ours is in the kitchen and it sounds great.People should also know when you first stock the unit with wine(50 bottles) it does take more than 24 hours for all the bottles to reach the ideal temp.So the unit will run for several hours til that happens.

Looks Great. Cools well. Quiet
5 Star Review   By mommajanks on Home Depot - Nov 28, 2011

We bought this after reading all of the reviews. We had it delivered (free) and let it sit upright for about three days before plugging it in. It is very quiet and cooled immediately to the set temperature. It looks like a much more expensive unit. We wish we had purchased this a long time ago. Great look for the price. Can't beat the price. And there was a $50 rebate, so save the box for the UPC label.

Looks great, keeps constant temp, sounds like a threshing machine
1 Star Review   By Architect on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2011

Good price, easy installation, looks great in kitchen, temp stays right where I set it. I had seen a review that indicated it was loud, but at first it was only slightly louder than the previous unit. I thought that was OK based on all the other positives. Then after two months it began making so much noise when the compressor comes on that it almost drives us out of the kitchen. It is hard to carry on a conversation. I love Home Depot, but I won't spec Magic Chef in any homes I design! A Texas Architect

Home Depot- get rid of this model
1 Star Review   By KBJersey on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2011

I've read so many complaints on this model after buying it myself- the problems started immediately, no temp control. I set the uit for 57 degrees and it never cooled less than 71...which is warmer than the room it's sitting in. We have a few hundred dollars of wine sitting in this unit and it's warming the wine, not cooling it! I've tried unplugging the unit to see if I could reset the internal circuit board or something...to no avail. It's going back this morning and not for an exchange.

Very well satisfied-good product, and perfect for our needs.
5 Star Review   By Rita on Home Depot - Nov 15, 2011

We wanted a unit that did not require defrosting, was quiet, and looked nice. The Vissani fits the bill. Keeps drinks at a constant temperature and holds a lot since it does not have a freezer section. Also like the glass shelves, which are adjustable.

Over 4 years in use and works perfect!
5 Star Review   By Trilogy1943 on Home Depot - Oct 28, 2011

This unit is an amazing buy - I have had mine in service since July 2007 and it is quiet, dual temp works as advertised - good for both red & white wines. I am building a new home and will be purchasing another for it. I am just happy it's still available!

Nice look and that's about it!
1 Star Review   By Rush on Home Depot - Oct 23, 2011

I bought this wine cooler Friday ( 21 Oct) I left it standing up for over 24 hours, I did not plug it in until Sunday. It is a very nice cooler and it fits perfectly under your counter. I took my dishwasher out and it fits nicely in that space. I am so hurt at the moment, I had it plug in for over 10 hours now and it is still hot inside (76 degrees) I am so upset. I really want to pull it out and return it to HD but there is no more in stock.....so disappointed!!!! I will be calling customer service first thing in the morning....I really love the look of this cooler and I hope they can send someone out to fix it!!! If they can't then I guess I will just return it.

Noise is unbearable
1 Star Review   By Rital on Home Depot - Sep 27, 2011

I bought this wine cooler because it had a good star rating and a great price. It does seem to cool the wine. However, the noise is unbearable. It is level and not vibrating. It is just loud. I have it in the basement and can hear it all the way upstairs, even with the doors closed. It was about 1/2 the cost of other similar units. Now I am paying the real price. If noise is not a concern, you are good to go. If you want to be anywhere around it, try another cooler.

Good value, but not good for long-term storage
3 Star Review   By Reedc on Home Depot - May 16, 2011

I purchased the cooler over the internet and saved $50. It arrived on-schedule and undamaged. My cooler is quiet, unlike what other reviewers reported. I have not used it long enough to have an opinion about reliability.

Product seems to function as advertised
3 Star Review   By jimmieb on Home Depot - May 14, 2011

The product seems to be working as advertised (have had product only 4 days as of this writing) but I had to modify a bit. The wine cooler was extremely noisy. I removed the back cover and placed a shim between the fan housing and the fan motor - eliminated the noise. Cool does seem to hold set temperature within the rage specified. Over all, now that the noise issued is resolved, I am happy with the product so far.

Great Price for an under-counter model!
5 Star Review   By mrbynum on Home Depot - May 10, 2011

I scoured the web for a wine fridge that was inexpensive and simple. Home Depot hit a home run. The fridge is basic but great looking and just what we need. Unless you require dual zones and a bunch of other options, this is the one! I also received free shipping!

Good Product
5 Star Review   By MDhomeowner on Home Depot - Nov 27, 2010

I've been looking for a replacement wine cooler for a Danby model that stopped working several months ago. I liked the style, design and size of this model (it fits perfectly into a built in area in the kitchen). I read the reviews and thought I'd take a chance with the fan issue. Brought it home and let it sit for 4 hours before plugging it in. I thought it wasn't working when I plugged it into the outlet - it's that quiet. Left it out for 4 hours to make sure the fan didn't act up and then moved it into the built in area. It's only been a day but so far so good, selected the white wine setting and the cooler chilled to 45 degrees inside a couple of hours. It looks great in the kitchen. Bonus feature was the cooler was in stock in my local HD and they gave me the internet price of $50 off. Coupled with the $50 mail in rebate I think it's a great deal.

Loud but Fixed and now Quiet
3 Star Review   By HandymanHelper on Home Depot - Jul 5, 2010

We are doing a total kitchen remodel. Part of our cabinets were designed to fit a wine cooler like this one. We read the reviews and were worried about the "loudness" but we didn't have room in the budget for the $1000 + models that don't have a fan. So we just brought this one home last week. We took the advice of other reviews and waited 48+ hours. We just plugged it in and It was indeed very LOUD. I was worried we'd have to return it and save up for a more expensive model, BUT we read the review that gave advice about how to FIX THE NOISE and IT WORKED! We took off the back, adjusted the fan, and it is ALMOST SILENT NOW! I am happy with this purchase. I'll report back in a few months once we've filled it with wine and had a few dinner parties. THANKS!

Nice unit if you're deaf
1 Star Review   By camijud on Home Depot - May 19, 2010

Bought this unit to replace a Haier thermoelectric unit that died after 6 months. Brought it home, plugged it in, ran it for 2.5 days before we unplugged it, boxed it up and took it back. Compressor is very noisy (I could hear it running 2 rooms and a closed door away) and fan ran constantly. My husband said the fan unit on the back wasn't running properly and was red hot. It's been mentioned in other reviews that the fan housing sometimes restricts the fan, and obviously we had one of these units. Ironically, when we returned it they refunded in cash and then couldn't use the cash to order the another model unit online. SO, we walked out with our cash in our pocket and no wine cooler.

So far so good
5 Star Review   By WinoinDenver on Home Depot - May 15, 2010

The unit will hold 52 standard bottles though the box says 50. The door can be flipped to the other side which is nice. Its very quiet. Its easy to use. It looks good and seems to built with quality. No complaints so far other than its "fun" to get down the basement stairs. Home Depot recommended letting it sit upright for 24 hours, but the instructions said 4 hours will do. If it blows up tomorrow, I'll change my review, but so far I am happy.

Revision after almost 2 years usage
4 Star Review   By LittleWineGuy on Home Depot - May 4, 2010

I rasise the rating from 2 to 4 stars after use it for almost 2 years. (I will give it 3.5 stars if possible) Reasons: 1) It's quiet. I noticed some users complain it's noisy but not in my case. 2) Price - I bought it on sale ($275). A $550 vinotemp has similiar capacity but also got no humidity contriol (although I never owned one). 3) I bought a $30+ humidifier and mod it to control the humidity inside the cooler. (- 05 star) 4) Upper and lower temp still have 5 - 10 F degree difference. My solution is keep the upper temp as 57 - 58 F, thus middle become 55 F and lower arounf 52 - 53 F. Drinkable vintage at the bottom, expensive (over $80) wines at the middle, and not so expensive wines at the top. (- 1 star) Wine cellar with stable temp and humidity cost too much. I like EuroCave a lot but with the price I can live with this little puppy.

Nice Product
5 Star Review   By Windjammer on Home Depot - Apr 28, 2010

I bought this to install in an existing cabinet in my dining room. I was afraid of the noise and if it would fit into the opening. It's quiet to the point you can barely hear it running and it fit perfectly. The temperature stays right where I put it and is very uniform. I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend it!

Excellent cooler.
4 Star Review   By shuslig on Home Depot - Apr 20, 2010

I bought this cooler because I needed a larger one, and one that performed better than my two other models. I am thrilled with this unit. I own a Vinotemp and a Haier. Both are thermoelectric, so they have a hard time maintaining temperature. This is my first unit that has a compressor, and now I'll never buy another thermoelectric cooler again. Some reviews complain about noise, but I have not experienced any problems with that. The compressor will make a little noise when it starts up, but it is not noisy by any means. My only complaint is that the shelves don't roll out. Overall, a great appliance. I plan on buying another soon.

Fix for anyone having a problem with noise
4 Star Review   By DoDoD on Home Depot - Dec 14, 2009

When we turned this fridge on it was extremely noisy, but we solved the problem. The fan that cools the coils in this fridge does not have a very solid mounting setup and, if the fan is just slightly off center, it vibrates and causes noisy operation. The fix is pretty simple though. There are 3 screws holding the access panel on the back of the fridge; remove them and the access panel. I just took a wooden shim and forced it into the gap between the side of the fan motor and its mounting bracket to make the fit tighter and adjusted the fan position so it was centered. This made an extremely noisy fridge very quiet and it's now hard to tell when it's running, even when you're right next to it. The difference is like night and day. Been running fine and quiet ever since.

Not bad for my 1st wine refrigerator
4 Star Review   By Harleylvr on Home Depot - Nov 13, 2009

I had read a lot of reviews about wine refrigerators before making my choice. This was my first one and I wanted the best for the best price. I just enjoy wine and with the remodel of my home due to a flood, I took advantage of adding this appliance. It looks great. The price was right. I find it hard to see that it will hold 50 bottles. I removed a rack so that my champagne bottles would fit. The only thing I found to not make the rating a 5 is that I could see is it is a little loud when it cycles on. But, it is not built into the counter so it might be if you did. I love my new wine refrigerator.

Works fine
5 Star Review   Home Depot

We have had ours for 3 months, no issues. Generally keeps wine with 2-3 degress of setting. The temp seems very accurate in the middle shelves, top shelves are 3-4 degrees warmer, bottom 3-4 cooler. Works well to keep the whites on the bottom shelves at about 40-45 degrees and the reds above a 50-55. Runs quiter than most refriderators. Getting bottles in and out is fairly easy, and large ones aren't a problem. Overall, for the price, I think it is a good deal, better built that others in the price range and holds more wine, To avoid problems with start-up, the people at Homedepot told us if we brought it home on its side, to let it sit upright for 48 hours before we plugged it in and then another 24 hours to let the tempature adjust.

Is your refrigerator running?
2 Star Review   By WineOh on Home Depot - Jul 20, 2009

I have been unimpressed with this unit. The temp does not hit the lower threshold, ever. It does keep drinks cool so I can't be sure if the digital read out is just incorrect The compressor is loud and constantly running. Save on electricity and buy a more expensive model.

Do not buy this product!
1 Star Review   By Tylerw on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2009

Red and White wines are supposed to be kept at different temperatures. If you like both, there is no way to separate the different types w/different temperatures. Also, the refrigerator stopped cooling in less than 2 years...... Severely Disappointed!

love it, good value
4 Star Review   By jjboat on Home Depot - Jun 18, 2009

We spent a long time looking for a wine cooler. It was the last appliance we bought for our kitchen remodel. I was concerned after reading some of the reviews about noise and temp control and since it was a remodel the unit sat in the box for 2 months. However, we have had it in place now for about 6 weeks and we love it. The wine/bar area is our favorite part of the kitchen remodel! I usually don't hear the unit running at all but occassionally when it starts up and the house is very quiet and I'm sitting in the kitchen, I do. Temp is great ... we keep the reds on the top, white on the bottom and it chills them perfectly. The only complaint is that it definately doesn't hold 50 bottles but the specs or something I read did specify that it didn't hold 50 standard size wine bottles but ones of different sizes. It looks great and we receive many compliments on how it looks etc. Definately recommend.

Decent, but noisy
3 Star Review   By CLC1 on Home Depot - Apr 27, 2009

We purchased this cooler for our second kitchen in the lower level of our home. It is the perfect size and fits nicely under the counter for a built in look. It will fit in the same space as the average dishwasher. And since the door is reversible, it's easy to customize to your needs. On the negative side, it's a bit loud when the compressor is running. And the light doesn't come on when you open the door. You must either leave it on or off. Since we got it on sale and had a rebate, adequate for the price.

Great wine fridge and silent operation!
4 Star Review   Home Depot

I read reviews saying this wine fridge was noisy, which had me concerned about buying one as the kitchen is open to the living room in my condo. I took the chance - the guy in Home Depot told me he'd sold hundreds and had never heard of anyone having a problem with one - and bought one and was pleasantly surprised to find that it's just about silent, I can't hear it at all. Then it keeps my wine at a constant 57 degF and looks good in my new kitchen. Couldn't ask for more, I would recommend to others.

Not an ideal wine storage product
2 Star Review   By LittleWineGuy on Home Depot - Jun 16, 2008

Pro: Appearance, ok quiet, good for causal storage. You paid what you get for a under $250 wine cooler. Con: 1. Top & bottom temp differecne is 10 degrees F plus 2. No humidity control 3. Not ideal if you wanna cellar your wines 4. Digital thermometer is not accurate. I bought 2 other thermometers to verify the temp and draw the conclusion. Something is better than nothing. This wine cooler is just a toy but if you don't have budget and all your wines are going to serve within next few months then go grab one.

An Excellent Value
4 Star Review   By Michael7 on Home Depot - May 19, 2008

This wine cooler has a number of good features for the money: digital thermostat, decent capacity, relatively quiet, attractive appearance, a quality feel and built-in convenience. It departs from smaller wine coolers in that it functions and operates more like a larger, permanent refrigerator than most wine coolers 35 bottles or smaller. Like most refrigerators, its compressor is occasionally a little more noisy than at other times--but not so noisy that it is distracting or a problem. The majority of the time, I would rate it as quiet. However, it is a little more noisy than the newer, ultra-quiet refrigerators available nowadays but not nearly as noisy as the 30-year old GE you may have grown up with. Shelves sit securely in place and wine bottles must be removed from the shelf in order to remove the shelf. Spacing between the shelves is tight but you can fit champagne or rhone bottles on most of the shelves. It is easier to place them on the front half of the shelves with the bottom of the bottles closest to the door. Thermostat setting reflects average temperature (i.e. middle of cooler). My unit comes on within 3 or 4 degrees above the temperature setting. The temp display will climb up to 4 degrees above before the cooler cycles on, then it will turn off when it reaches the set point temp. This minimal swing in air temperature has little affect on the internal temp on the wine in the bottles. In case you're wondering, a thermostat setting of 55 degrees means that the middle shelves are close to 55, the top shelves are closer to 59-60 degrees and the bottom shelves are around 51-52 degrees. To compensate for the drying effect of most refrigerators, I have placed a small container with a wet sponge on a middle shelf to add moisture to the cooler. Door is double paned with very dark-tinted glass. I don't think light will be a problem. Instruction booklet says the glass is UV filtering. Door gasket seals nicely and door has a heavy duty feel. While there are some very minor vibrations from the compressor, these are minimal. Again, they are slight enough that I'm not worried. Paid $299 but received a rebate coupon for $50 off at time of purchase. It's a great deal. Would have given the cooler 5 stars if the compressor was just a little bit quieter and the spacing of the shelves allowed for easier storage of larger bottle sizes such as Rhone or sparkling wine.
