Junk
1 Star Review   By Creekbed50 on Home Depot - May 29, 2013

Worked for about 14 months (was quite loud) and then died. I called warranty service and they said I was only covered for one year despite compressor being covered for five. All the authorized repair centers I phoned either were out of business or explained they didn't fix this brand (despite their listing as authorized service centers). Terrible product, terrible service.

you have to know how to use it
3 Star Review   By DCSafetyHarbor on Home Depot - May 27, 2013

This cooler is not as straightforward as it seems. If you follow these guidelines, you should be OK... 1. the 'cooler' only maintains the temperature. If you put in room warmth beverages, it will take it days to cool them and it will do so unevenly. I found that this product works best if the beverages are pre cooled to desired temperature. From there, the fridge does a good job keeping them cold (in my case, 36-38 degrees). 2. the fridge keeps the back wall of the fridge cold. In fact, it can build up ice. anything that contacts the back will freeze... so, to avoid messy cleanup and avoid dis satisfaction, do not push objects past the shelf lip to contact the back wall and allow some airspace. likewise, as mentioned before, put precooled beverages in the fridge to avoid throwing the thermostat off kilter. Overall, this is a good product. it is NOT a mini fridge or a commercial fridge... it is a cooler. a subtle but important difference. we use it to store cans, juices, water bottles... things that clutter the main fridge and keep the door open the most. for that, it is great a good way to improve it would be to improve ventilation... in other words, wire rack shelves and improved fan. It is attractive and has lots of features. it is also the least expensive cooler in this capacity range. Set realistic expectations and understand the product and it will be great.

DO NOT GET THIS!
1 Star Review   By TEKan on Home Depot - May 25, 2013

I agree with the other reviewers, this is a terrible beverage cooler. Like others have said it does not keep beverages cold, I was constantly reseting the thermostate to try and drop the temperature and after 2 seasons it is dead. Home Depot should stop carrying this item. Seriously do not buy this, I wish I had read the reviews before my purcahse!

Purchased three years ago
1 Star Review   By kpmse on Home Depot - May 24, 2013

I’ve had it for three years now. I finally have it set as cold as possible (not even sure how I did it) and then ended up with a large ice build up on the back of the frig that actually cracked the plastic. I have to keep cans away from the back or they will freeze and explode. Cannot turn frig off to defrost I have to turn off at breaker box. Not worth buying.

Terrible refrigerator
1 Star Review   By RonF on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

I always check out reviews, etc, online before making a major purchase, but my wife and I saw this at the store when purchasing a full sized refrigerator and thought, "Wow, this looks nice for beverages in our downstairs game room, bar area". We just assumed a "Beverage Cooler" could keep beverages COLD. Not even close! It says that it can be set for 35 degrees...but the digital display never went below 37..mostly always 38 or 39. But a "real" thermometer showed that most of the refrigerator stays in the 42-44 range. Beer and soda barely chilled. Contacted manufacturer several times ("Magic Chef") and was curtly told three different times, after being ignored initially, that those temps "were in the acceptable range for this cooler". Then I typed the model into google and saw all of the same temperature complaints! So we just took it back to Home Depot and got our money back. Live and learn. Never "assume" that a Beverage cooler can actually keep your drinks COLD like they should be.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!
1 Star Review   By NIKKI on Home Depot - Apr 18, 2013

This product looks great in my kitchen and that is the ONLY thing nice I can say about it!! Super disappointed. Hums REALLY LOUD for an hour then quiet for 30 minutes, then loud again...this goes on non-stop! In addition to that, it does not keep the beverages cold. I am really sad to have to pick out something else to replace it because it looks great in my kitchen....the bonus was that the door handle also matched the handles on my cabinets and drawers. But hey, it's NOT WORTH IT!!

I knew it was too good to be true.
1 Star Review   By Barbara on Home Depot - Feb 27, 2013

While this unit is a very attractive addition to the kitchen space, I have been very disappointed with this beverage cooler. It advertises a capability to cool to 35 degrees, but the coldest I have been able to get it is 44 degrees. That may be okay for a wine cooler, but not for a beverage cooler that is used for other beverages. I wished I would have spent the extra money to get a cooler that truly does maintain temperatures in the 30's. It's not a good deal if it doesn't perform as advertised.

3 Star Review   By Johnny on Home Depot - Feb 26, 2013

Light started having issues withing 3 months and stopped working after a year, then found out the light for this model wasn't documented. Instead of replacing a $3 15W bulb, I have to order a $30 Printed Circuit Board (PCB) with 6 LED lights on it! I have replace a PCB instead of a bulb! The worst part is, the LED version is not documented, only the bulb is referred to in the dated manual.

This Fridge is Great but....
4 Star Review   By JoJo11 on Home Depot - Jan 4, 2013

We have had this fridge since September of 2011. It has worked great for us. Keeps all our beer nice and cold and it looks really good under our bar counter tops with the rest of our stainless steal appliances. The one problem that I have come across is that the interior light went out about two months ago and I finally got around to replacing it. The issue with that is I assumed it was just going to be a regular small light bulb that I could find in any hardware store for a couple of bucks. That wasn't the case, it is an LED board with 4 or 5 LEDs built into it. I called the tech support about the light and they were very nice and friendly. If the fridge was still under warranty they would have sent out a technician to replace the lights for Free. Unfortunately it was a couple months past. I'm a pretty handy guy so I probably wouldn't have any issue replacing the part myself. The issue is that it cost $60 for the part and $10 to ship. That is almost 1/4 the cost of the fridge just to replace the light. If I needed a technician to come out that would probably cost another $100. Mine as well buy a new fridge at that point. Looks like we won't have a light in our fridge.

Great Value
4 Star Review   By bullmoon on Home Depot - Nov 15, 2012

I read so many conflicting reviews and was tempted to spend a lot more for good cooling and reliability - don't do that. I'm so glad I got this and wish I would have ages ago - so much better then the mini-fridge I was using for beer. It looks great, has tons of room - even for the tall Growlers and keeps the beer perfectly cold. My only small criticism is the interior lighting -the LED lighting looks really cool - but is just not enough to light the bottom area...whatever. Every cooler like this you look at will have good and bad reviews - even those $1500 and up. For the money, this one is excellent. Loving it so far. I rarely buy an extended warranty, but for the price this was, it seemed like a fair deal and now I'm not worrying about anything going wrong - I'm covered.

Very pleasing design, front venting allows zero clearance builtin.
5 Star Review   By djacks123 on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012

Was looking for a small under counter refrigerator that I could install in my casita in place of the wine cooler that stopped working. Most under counter front vented refrig. were priced $800 to $3000. This refrigerator is a real good deal at $399. I would buy another if this one went out.

waste of time and money--DO NOT BUY!!!!
1 Star Review   By frustrated on Home Depot - Oct 2, 2012

Bought this items despite reading all the NEG reviews b/c it was 1/3 the price of our other choice. Loud, worked for about a week, had to take a day off work for a repair call, never received the recommended parts but didn't matter....seal broke and unrepairable. Customer service did refund my money so now after 6 weeks I spent 3X the $ but have a different product worth every penny..LISTEN to the reviews and DO NOT EVEN TRY IT!!! I was very frustrated.

Don't waste your money!
1 Star Review   By unhappycustomer on Home Depot - Sep 19, 2012

We bought July 1, 2011 and it died on August 14, 2012. We spent the $$ for a repair man to come and look, he called the manufacturer and they said the particular problem couldn't be fixed and to trash the unit. We actually didn't move into the house and START using it until Sept. 2011, so it didn't even last a year. We had to keep resetting the temperature several times for 2 months prior to it dying. It's a piece of junk and now we're left to find something the same size and triple the price to fill the hole in our cabinetry left by this waste of money.

NOT WORTH BUYING.
1 Star Review   By Jazzy on Home Depot - Aug 20, 2012

This cooler does not keep beer anywhere near beer cold. I bought it on August 31, 2011, so it's not even a year old. I never could get the thing to stay at 35 degrees. It always jumped up to 42-46 degrees. After several calls to the repair service (the cooler is still under warranty), I finally asked for my money back. Vissani agreed to refund my $400.00, although I haven't received it yet. I just wish I would have read the other reviews before buying the piece of junk.

Lasted six months
1 Star Review   By Gary on Home Depot - Aug 1, 2012

If you're looking for a bargain, look elsewhere. That is, unless you're the type to buy a new fridge each season. Bought it because it was so inexpensive relative to the others, and it worked great for the first three months. A little loud, but it was a third the price of the competitors. Then, the temp controls decided they weren't going to do 37 degrees any longer; it got "stuck" at 45 degrees and wouldn't change. Oh well, I thought, that's fine. Six months after purchase, it was reading 75 degrees, compressor trying. Dead as a doornail, as far as cooling goes. Still under warranty, but what a waste of time and effort. I'm concerned they'll be (or are) out of business already after reading the reviews.

STAY AWAY
1 Star Review   By tagtastic on Home Depot - Jul 26, 2012

I purchased two of these for our bar in the basement. They ran fine at first. The LED interior lighting went out of one at 13 months and just today the second one stopped cooling. Too much money for just a years worth of use. I do not recommend.

Works Great
5 Star Review   By bruce on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

I bought this cooler for basement bar remodel and it has worked perfectly since I installed it, had a slight problem getting it level, but no big deal. The digital controls are easy to use. It keeps everything between 37-41 degrees, looks great and the price was right. The only thing that I would change is the LED light, it could be brighter but it still looks good. It keeps beer colder than my local bar does!

Doesn't hold colder temperatures
1 Star Review   By Brad on Home Depot - Jul 7, 2012

Bought this unit 5 years ago. It has never achieved a sub-40 degre temperature which I want for sodas & beer. Now, it won't cool below 55. Not a good value. A drink fridge should cool drinks colder than this, and last longer.

OK for beer
2 Star Review   By mannyv on Home Depot - May 31, 2012

My unit hovered at around 41 degrees. That's OK for beer, not great for everything else. Temperature never got below 40 consistently and fluctuated a lot, making it too unstable for wine.

Good looking unit but useless for beer - doesn't get cold enough.
2 Star Review   By Lennard on Home Depot - May 22, 2012

Attractive looking unit and a very attractive price. The adjustable glass shelves are good for stacking beer bottles unfortunately the unit is not really capable of getting a "cold beer" temp. Typically the temperature runs around 40 degrees F even though set at the lowest setting of 35. At times the temp fluctuates to 45 degrees even though the door remains closed. This unit is probably defective and is going back to the store. If you want a wine and soft drink cooler this may work for you but if you want ice cold beer steer clear of this and all other beverage coolers - you need a refrigerator not cooler.

DON'T BUY THIS COOLER!!!!
1 Star Review   By TracyL50 on Home Depot - Apr 10, 2012

i bought this cooler a month ago. And it doesn't keep the temp where you set it at.. I set mine at 35 degrees and the cooler says it reading at 38 degrees. but i felt that the soda and beers didn't feel that cold, so we put in our own digital thermometer in, and it was reading 47 degrees. so you can't go by the thermometer in the cooler it is way off. so for everyone claiming it is reading at around 38 degrees, you should put your own thermometer in it. for me 400.00 is a lot of money so i took it back to home depot. I went to Lowes and bought the Frigidaire 4.6 Cu. Ft. Beverage cooler. it is a little smaller but it works great and keeps the right temp. before you buy this unit read the reviews. And then read the reviews for the Frigidaire. I would not buy this unit… i wouldn't even give it a 1 star but you can't leave 0.. i will say it is nice looking. but if it doesn't work, well then the looks won't mean anything...

Cooler is too loud when it is running
1 Star Review   By Hugh on Home Depot - Apr 6, 2012

We bought this refrigerator along with the matching wine cooler for our family room wet bar and although it is nice looking and provides adequate space for beverages it is too loud when it kicks on and off and is running. If you bought this and the wine cooler for a location other than your family room, where you watch TV, you might not mind the noise level. I guess for the price, I expected more.

After one year -- just out of warrenty -- became very noisy.
2 Star Review   By Disappointed on Home Depot - Mar 28, 2012

Very disappointed as liked appearence and features of unit. Even had a space built for it in guest room of new house. After year just beyond warrently, began making loud humming sound. Guest had to unplug in order to sleep. Vissani said might pay for parts. But those are incidental given service travel and labor to fix at our home. It is a heavy piece, so may have to pay hauling charges as well. Imagine when all said and done we'll have sunk cost of this thing into repairs

Good Beverage Cooler for the Money!
4 Star Review   By Kappy on Home Depot - Feb 27, 2012

I read other reviews before I purchased and knew what to expect. The programing of the temperature control is easy. I programed it at the lowest, 35 degrees and get a steady 36 - 38 degree temperature. It keeps the beverages / beer cool, but not ice cold and it's got excellent capacity. Its used down the basement in the man cave only and not outside at my cabana bar. So, it works well with the even average household temperature. I would recommend this unit only if you're using it inside. Looks great in black and stainless and matches my basement bar decor.

Very Disappointed
1 Star Review   By Steve on Home Depot - Feb 20, 2012

I just bought two of these beverage coolers from HD. I wanted to put them under my bar because the picture on the box looks great. I got home, plugged it in and turned the interior light on. IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURE ON THE BOX. The light is a very dim LED, nothing like the incandescent glow in the picture, where the light permeates through the bottles. It lit up nothing. Shut the door and you can’t even see what’s in the refrigerator. I don’t know if it was a design change when this product changed from Magic Chef to Vissani, but this purchase was a real disappointment. I returned them a few days after I bought them. HD was very accomodating with the return. (This is the first time I have EVER written an on-line review)

1 Star Review   By buyer on Home Depot - Feb 17, 2012

Product wouldn't cool. the lowest temperature I could get on it was 46F which is pretty high for a beverage cooler. I called tech support and the guy determined that the unit was defective. Magic Chef customer service was terrible in handling the case from that point onwards.

Poor quality wine cooler (Vassani)
1 Star Review   By broadwaymike on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2012

Watch out for this Magic Chef off brand! Mine quit cooling and its only 3yrs old. It runs but doesn't cool. Three yrs ago I got one similar to this model. It lasted about 5 months. Home Depot replaced it no questions asked. So I got the replacement and another one for my white wines. 2 1/2 yrs later it quit cooling.

This is a great beverage cooler
5 Star Review   By jp1960 on Home Depot - Jan 31, 2012

This beverage cooler keeps everything at the right temp. Cooler stays right around 38 degrees. Sodas and beer are nice and cold. Love the light inside gives it an elegant look. Like the fact that the shelves are adjustable. Can even put trays of snacks inside. Price was within our budget priced some that were double the price. Thanks Home Depot

Great value
4 Star Review   By Markmc440 on Home Depot - Jan 31, 2012

This is a nice cooler. It got a bit rough in shipping I believe as a fan mounted in the top rear of the unit got knocked out of place. Easy enough to pop back into its mount.

Don't waste your money
1 Star Review   By wineenthusiast on Home Depot - Jan 28, 2012

Multiple problems. Light bulb went out repetitively. It doesn't cool evenly. The glass front door spontaneously cracked. The seal/weather stripping broke down. Frost built up in the back which then leaked and stained the floor making a mess.

Overall I think that the beverage cooler was a good value.
4 Star Review   Home Depot

In summary I would say that overall the beverage cooler was a good value. The capacity was good and the interior space is good for all kinds of beverages with different shapes like wine, sodas, juices, water and etc. However, it makes a little noise when the fan transitions or shuts down and I don't know if that should be expected. Also there was a little tarnish on the top hinge that I could not remove.

Yes, this product looks good, BUT it spoils my fruit juices and does not chill other beverages adequately.
1 Star Review   By veganchef on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

I have had this unit 1 1/2 years. It has never held a constant temperature. It will register at 37 or 36 degrees and within an hour will register in the low 40s, not to return to the thirties for months. Manufacturer does not reveal this undesirable large fluctuation in the temperature until the product has been purchased. Poor quality. Would not purchase again!

So far so good!
4 Star Review   By CMMC on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

The fit was great and it has served as a great back-up to our full size refrigerator that is suffering from "old age." Not suggesting that is what you use it for but it is giving us "breathing room" while we decide what to purchase to replace the full size refrigerator.

Looks good, sounds bad
1 Star Review   By anonymous on Home Depot - Jan 10, 2012

Looks great, but when the fan is on it sounds like a lawnmower. Completely unacceptable volume. I think the one I purchased must be defective, because no one would keep it if it sounded like this. The loudness of this product has compelled me to write this which is my first online review of anything ever.

Horrible Product
1 Star Review   By Daniel on Home Depot - Jan 6, 2012

We purchased this product approximately two months ago and noticed right away that it was not chilling our beverages to the temperature selected. We had it set at 35 degrees and and thermometers we placed in the unit measured 44 degrees. We contacted the manufacturer and the rep we spoke to told us that the cooler was guaranteed to work 5 degrees +/- what the cooler thermometer states. Since our reading was greater than 5 degrees different, they sent a repair man out. The repair man told us that he could replace the fan, but we would be better off taking the unit back and getting a new one. We did and we are experiencing the same issues with our new unit. Needless to say, we will have to go through the hassle of returning this one too. Buy this product at your own risk.

Very poor
1 Star Review   By frank on Home Depot - Jan 6, 2012

The appliance looks great but does not cool. The book says 35 degrees to 54 degrees F but it only gets down to 39. I have set it at 35 empty and it will not get to 35. They replaced the control but that did not do anything. I called the MC Appliance number and was told that the factory sets a 5 degree span, so the product is running fine. Tell that to any beer drinker! I am returning the appliance today. Will find a product that does not have a 5 degree span.

Great Product for the Money!
5 Star Review   By mcgrathteam on Home Depot - Dec 28, 2011

I bought this for my husband for an early christmas present. We have been using for 2 weeks now and it has been working great. It keeps drinks cold, it looks good and is fairly quiet. I looked for a long time to find a beverage frige that could be built in and other models ranged from $600 and up if they had good reviews. This was half the price of one I had on order and cancelled and I am glad I got this one instead! I also went to the brand website and ordered a wine rack shelf for $24.00, so I thought that was nice and I was able to talk with someone so I feel good about if I ever had an issue with the product they would be responsive. I would recommend this to any one.

Works great for beverages and other refrigerator like items
5 Star Review   By Glenn on Home Depot - Dec 27, 2011

I have found the unit to work very well and get to temperature under 40 degrees. Their were some complaints it did not get cold, but that was the wine cooler. It can take a day to get real cold if you put a fridge full of room temperature drinks, but it got there. You need to make sure they are not touching the back cooling part I got this on sale, free delivery and a rebate. I cannot complain. I am very happy with the price and way it works It also looks very good

Works fine for me!
4 Star Review   By Chaz on Home Depot - Dec 18, 2011

I've had this beverage cooler for 8 months, and it has done the job for me. I was skeptical at first because it is considerably cheaper than other models, but I have been pleasantly surprised. I have it set at 37 degrees and use it for keeping beer and non-alcoholic beverages cool. I've read other reviews about how it doesn't get drinks very cold or sometimes leave you with downright warm drinks. I won't discount what those folks are saying, but I simply have not experienced that. In fact, I have the opposite problem. If you really fill it up to capacity with cans/bottles, the cans/bottles towards the back can have a tendency to freeze up on you, and I have had a couple aluminum cans literally explode their tops off leaving me with a mess to clean up. I have found that if I leave an inch or two of space just in the back center of the middle row, that seems to alleviate the freezing issue. I am guessing that it allows better air flow for more uniform temperature throughout. The fridge isn't the quietest thing in the world; it actually sounds about the same as my full-size kitchen fridge when it runs. For perspective, I have it under the counter in my kitchen very close to my family room where we spend most of our time, and although you can hear it running, it isn't a nuisance and doesn't cause us to change the volume on the TV. I do also get an occasional knocking sound when the compressor first kicks on for the cycle which is quite loud - I would classify that as a nuisance if it wasn't for the fact that it happens for a split second once or twice an hour at most, and it certainly doesn't happen each and every time it turns on. Also, it does seem to run frequently which concerned me, but it hasn't had any noticeable effect on my electric bill. Visually, I think this thing looks better than the picture. I can't explain it other than you'd have to see it for yourself in person. I like that there is a nice Vissani logo provided in the bag that you can affix to the unit (it's secured by double-sided sticky tape), but I left it off because it just provides a cleaner look. I doubt Vissani intentionally provides the logo separately so that people can choose not to put it on, but the unintended "feature" is a plus in my opinion. Sorry for the long review, but I wanted to give you as much info as I could to help you make your decision. People are generally less inclined to take the time to review a product when it does the job it is expected to do, so we are often left reading mostly negative reviews from frustrated folks that are experiencing problems...what you never really know is whether or not the percentage of the negative reviews correlates to the percentage of product owners that are unhappy with the product. I can't answer that question obviously, but I wanted to at least give you perspective from a "happy" customer for your shopping comparison. In conclusion, would I say this thing is perfect? No. Do I think it will last for years and years? I'm still a little skeptical. But, it's been running like a champ, and for less than $400, my opinion after 8 months of use is that this unit has exceeded my expectations, and I am planning to purchase a second one in a few months when I finish my basement.

Nice Cooler
4 Star Review   By StPaulB on Home Depot - Dec 17, 2011

I can't speak to why so many people were having issues with the cooling setting, or why some thought it was noisy because I don't have either issue. In fact, I am able to set the cool setting down to 35 F if I want to but have it set to 39 which is nice and cool. You do need to hold down "set" for about 3 seconds to change the setting so perhaps that is where some are having issue. The quality is fine, although my hinge seems to rub a bit on the bushing, but I should be able to clean that up. The light on the photo above is a bit misleading as the actual lights are 3 LED lights which don't light the cooler up much through the smoked glass. Overall, this is good quality. I can't speak for the durability as i just got it up and running today.

Good for Wine, Not cold enough for Beverages
3 Star Review   By Nathan on Home Depot - Dec 3, 2011

Bought this fridge 2 years ago. I am now selling it. It just does not get drinks cold enough. It looks good and it runs quiet. If you set the thermostat to 39, it seems to cycle back up to the low 40's and if you put a thermometer in the fridge it is actually is sometimes in the high 40s. It would make a good wine fridge. Ended up buying an Avanti which keeps my beer at 33 degrees.

Good price with rebate
4 Star Review   By OHReviewer on Home Depot - Nov 28, 2011

This wine cooler looks great and seems very well made. It has separate, adjustable red and white wine settings. It can be set cool enough for beverages. There is a large temperature difference from the top to bottom, almost 10 degrees. The light is a cold bluish LED, and can be turned off. The stainless finish is really nice. The front two feet are adjustable for leveling. The 50 bottle capacity requires some front-to-back alternating racking on the top few shelves. This cooler is slightly noisier than my old cooler, but it's not an irritating buzz or anything - just the compressor hum.

Looks great, but you have to like warm beer.
2 Star Review   By Melissa on Home Depot - Nov 4, 2011

We bought this unit about a year ago and noticed that the fridge only went to 39 degrees. You would set it at 39, but if you checked on it a day later it would be at 42. 42 degree beer is not pleasant. So for this item to be sold as a beverage cooler is inaccurate and should better just be labeled a wine cooler. If you are looking to keep beer, pop and water at a cold temperature, go elsewhere, because after reviewing the issues with this product now that the warranty is up, you will find that Magic Chef has many issues with their cooling units. If you call their help desk though, you can replace the circuit board for an easy $60 plus freight and install it yourself. So just remember, this unit will probably be costing you closer to $500, not $400.

I really like this product!
4 Star Review   By spiechj1 on Home Depot - Nov 3, 2011

We bought this beverage cooler about 18 months ago, despite some negative reviews. It was quiet and worked great. Then, a couple of days ago, it started making a loud noise when the compressor came on. I thought " OK, the reviews were right, the compressor is broken". But we checked the back and determined that the noise came from the fan, which was vibrating. My husband re-set the felt pads on the mounting and hot-glued them in place and now it's fine and I love it again.

2 Star Review

Strengths: large capacity and nice looking

Weakness: will not hold a constant temp. can not be set for lower than 42 degrees which is not cool enough for most beverages

worked well for the first 1.5 years than the problems began. Will hold temp for one or two days than all at once decides to shut down and it will be at 60 degrees! have to "tap" on the temp controller a few times to get it to turn back on. then will stay on for a few more days before starting all over again. I will be replacing it as soon as I can with another brand and hope for better luck.

5 year compressor warranty is a farse!
1 Star Review

Strengths: gave us a good 12 months before it died

Weakness: compressor!

my 13 month old beverage center stopped being cold. Called them regarding the 5 year warranty on the compressor..here is how the game goes - yes there is a warranty, they will ship the part for free to a licensed coolent/refridgerator repair center/person. Guess what it costs for labor...$350.00...after 7 repair man calls...we threw in the towl and went out and bought a new one (of a different manufacturer of course). What a mess...and I have to pay my private garbage company to cart it away...only adding insult to injury! Get the extended warranty if you choose to get this cooler!

4 Star Review   By Joelap on Home Depot - Jun 23, 2011

I bought the beverage cooler in March 2011 but the temperature was 8-10 degrees more that the temp display when verified with a digital thermometer... not very cold. At this time the minimum setting was 39 degree... again not very cold. we placed a service call and they replaced the circuit board behind the display and the temp sensor. The minimum temperature can now be set to 35 (was 39 with the old board) with the new board and the temp displayed is accurate (when compared to another digital thermometer). we like it now!

Beverage Cooler/Wine Cooler
4 Star Review   By AJ63 on Home Depot - May 3, 2011

I purchsed the beverage cooler and the matching wine cooler about 1 month ago despite reading other reviews that complained about the noise. So far no problems. Both coolers are located in my home bar as built in units. I have not experienced any excessive noise from the compressors. Both units are cooling as expected. The only complaint I have is that the beverage cooler is factory pre-set at 45 degrees and it took several attempts for the thermostat to reset to a lower temp. Another drawback is the limited ability to adjust the shelves to accomodate taller bottles/cans. If you need more space you have to remove a shelf entirely. Overall, for the money a great value.

Excellent Option
5 Star Review   By tarheeler on Home Depot - May 1, 2011

The beverage cooler was delivered quickly and in excellent condition. Following the directions it was easy to adjust the temperature and it began to cool immediately. This cooler has a huge interior capacity and the adjustable shelves allow for various size drinks such as water bottles and sports drinks not just soda cans. Overall appeal is fabulous and after a month absolutely no complaints.

best bang for you buck
4 Star Review   By roadsoda on Home Depot - Feb 28, 2011

This bad boy fit like a glove into our bar space. It is cabinet height with a rough in of approx 23 ¾ wide. Some of these beverage coolers (especially built in) go for well over 1000 dollars (ge, kitchen aid etc). This cooler can reach 37 degrees and easily maintains 38 degree average. My 2 and 3 yr olds love it because they can now access their milk and water bottles easly. If you on a budget and are looking for a good unit search no further. I have done the research for you. We are only using 2 shelves. On the bottom we easily fit 4-5 big wine bottles, orange juice and gallon of milk standing upright. On the upper shelve we fit out water, kids bottle and beer also standing upright no problem. Plenty of room! It runs smooth and the fan does not seem to come on that often. Came with a burnt out bulb only complaint.

beverage cooler x 3
5 Star Review   By ipscgal on Home Depot - Jan 9, 2011

I bought the beverage cooler model over 4 years ago and installed it in my new house as a built-in my kitchen island. Like it so much I bought another one and gave it to my builder who has it in his rec. room. After 4 years he is happy with his also. 1 month ago, I moved into a new home and bought a 3rd one also installed as a built-in in my kitchen island. All 3 have been well worth the $$. They look great, work great. Temp. adjustments were easy and cooled to 40* (that's what I set in at) in @ 1 hr. I inadvertantly overfilled the top shelf and had soda freeze and the back ice up. Haven't done that again and the unit works great. If this 3rd unit runs as well as the other 2, I will be very pleased indeed.

Short-Term Review
5 Star Review   By MikeL1978 on Home Depot - Dec 21, 2010

So, I have had this unit for almost 2 months and I really could not be happier. I initially purchased a unit over 3 times the price and returned it. This unit is quiet! It is factory set at 45 degrees, but that is easily changed with the digital keypad and keeps my drinks at a nice 39 degrees. Installation was a cinch, just slide it into the space provided. The shelves are really nice. Some of the more expensive models still have wire shelves which just bend under the weight of the drinks. This causes the drinks to fall over when people start pulling them out. These shelves are tempered glass and do not bend, perfect! The door is very easy to change over to a left hand open, just loosen a few screws. My only suggestion is that I wish it had a better light inside. The one provided only lights up the drinks directly around it, but considering the only units this nice are at least twice this price, I can live with it!

This Model works Great
5 Star Review   By Mattrix on Home Depot - Dec 19, 2010

I'm tired of seeing one star reviews with a simple comment like 'stopped working after two years' and that is it. Come on, give us more detail than that! Did you know this unit comes with a 5 year warranty? I purchased this unit on 12/18/2010 and am very pleased. Unlike other reviewers, this model cools easily down to 38 degrees F without a hitch. Sodas are nice and cold. Any issues with cooling seem to have been addressed as this unti has adjustable temperatrure down to 35 F. This is a super deal. We needed this size to replace a broken built in. If you need a fridge this size, you either get this one for $350 or the only other choices all cost $1200 and up. This is quite the bargain. My complaints: 1) Interior light is turned on and off with a switch on the inside. It does not go on and off with the door opening and closing. Kind of weird but it works ok once you get used to it. 2) There is nothing either in the manual or online that says how much power consumption or energy usage this fridge uses on average, so it's impossible to compare. 3) There is no on / off switch of the unit, just a plug, even though the directions say to turn it off before replacing the lightbulb, or when you go on vacation. However, as a builtin, this makes it difficult as you have to pull it out and unplug in order to turn it off. All in all this is a great little fridge.

A disappointment - it just doesn't get cold enough
2 Star Review   By blankpage on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2010

We purchased one of these reasonably priced appliances at our local HD and installed it as a "built-in" under our new kitchen island. The item looks great and we have not experienced any noise issues as mentioned in some of the other reviews. Our only use for this item is storage of canned soda and beer. Unfortunately, the unit absolutely refuses to cool below 45 degrees and this has proven to be inadequate for chilling beverages. Some of the reviewers indicate that they've been able to these things below 40 degrees but that sure hasn't happened at our house. There appears to be a new unit from the same manufacturer with dual beverage - wine zones that advertises better cooling potential in the beverage section. It costs $65 more but you might want to think about getting that one unless you like your beer cool rather than cold. Wish we would've waited.

Works well overall
4 Star Review   By Summerplace on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2010

We have this unit built into our new lake home hutch and it looks great. It works well and is quiet. We had heard that these units couldn't get colder than 45 degrees but found in the instruction manual that it could be set lower so we have it at 40 degrees. We have had two problems but they are manageable. Pop cans against the very back of the shelf can freeze and the glass door sweats when the humidity is high. For the price, this unit is a good value.

3 Star Review   By mimiof9 on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2010

We purchased this beverage cooler and it would not cool past luke warm. My son purchased the same cooler and he had the same problem. We returned them to the store and the manager explained that there was a mix-up at the factory and some of the wine coolers were packaged and shipped as beverage coolers. This would explain the lower temp. We each received a new beverage cooler and the temp is now at a reasonable 38 degrees. There is a slight plastic odor when the door opens which is the only problem I have with the unit. If you buy an under counter cooler, make sure it has front venting. Which this unit does have.

Wine cooler
2 Star Review   By Highmaster on Home Depot - Mar 11, 2010

Bought the product about 1+1/2 to 2 yrs ago. worked ok for a while then the control panel on the front door fell off and it stopped operating. Got the door fixed under warranty. Now just a few weeks ago the upper compartment fan stopped working. Can't order or buy the part. forced to take it to a shop for repair. $88.00 and before I could pick it up the shop calls and the lower compartment fan dies next. In my opinion the unit is not made well. From the stand point that it has not lasted very long and is now having it's 3rd problem I have to ask is it worth the repair or just getting a new and better unit? From this experience it is a big dissapointment. I would say it would be worth paying a little more and getting a better unit. The cost of a new door and control panel and replacing the fan motor would be about half the cost of a new cooler alone, now add in the lower fan motor.......

Failed after 2 years
1 Star Review   By Kuhlman on Home Depot - Dec 5, 2009

Worked well for two years then compressor ran continuously but failed to cool. Warranty would pay for replacement compressor but we have to call an appliance repairman and have them diagnose the problem. If the compressor needed replacement the repairman had to call Magic Chef who would provide one free (5 year warranty on compressor only). Approximate cost to fix is $300. Just so you know what you’re getting....................

Awesome little refridgerator with minor drawbacks.
4 Star Review   By illini on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2009

This refridgerator looks great and works great. We bought two of them and put them side by side in our basement. The handle was super easy to switch around and this fits so many bottles, cans, etc. We bought the beverage cooler style. I even use it when we have parties for cakes and various salads. The two drawbacks are as follows: 1. Could chill drinks a little bit more. Does not get them ice cold. 2. The door needs to be shut. If you try to just slam it shut it will end up ajar. It does not seal shut when closed with a swing of the arm. That being said, I still plan to buy one more for our kitchen area since for the cost, it is not worth $1000+ to fix the two issues mentioned above.

Keep your wine in good hands

I really like this wine cooler - it looks great and keeps expensive bottles safe from turning into vinegar. Highly recommended!

Great Deal
5 Star Review   By DV8R808 on Home Depot - Jan 25, 2009

This Beverage Cooler is exactly that, a cooler. Some people like their drinks Ice Cold ( 35 deg ) if so, this will do almost that. If you are looking for a cold drink this more than handles the job. Options are you can get an ugly and cheap mini fridge, or buy a high end beverage center which will cost you minimum $1400.00 to get the extra 6 deg colder. You get what you pay for, this Baby more than fits the job PLUS- It looks great, it will impress your friends, incredible durability, stainless design and it will allow you to have cold drinks for your guests. What more do you need? I think its AWSOME.

Works for me
5 Star Review   By beercamper on Home Depot - Jan 19, 2009

I just purchased the unit 2 days ago so this is a short term rating. I bought the unit to use in my homebrew beer hobby so I can produce lagers without tying up the refrigerator. I set the unit at its lowest setting 39 degrees F, which it reached within 1 hour and 5 minutes – not bad. After running the unit for 2 days, the unit cycles between 39 and 42 degrees F – still not bad. I noticed 1 or more of the posters mentioned ice in the back of the unit – while I have not experienced ice after 2 days of operating, this is a natural occurrence and the unit is auto defrost. The unit will automatically go into the auto defrost mode to eliminate the ice which the melted ice is collected in a pan underneath the unit and expelled through evaporation – meaning you have to do nothing. If you go to the Magic Chef website and look up the unit and click on the manual as I did before making the purchase, you will find this stated in the manual. I find the unit runs quiet. The unit is preset for 45 degrees F. However, if you wish to use a lower setting, as I did, push the set button (you hear a beep) and hold for 2 to 3 seconds (you hear a second beep and the numbers will start flashing), then press the up or down arrow keys until you reach the desired temperature, and then press the set button to lock in (set) desired temperature. After 2 days of usage, I give it 5 stars.

sorry I bought 2
1 Star Review   By notworthbuying on Home Depot - Jan 12, 2009

I bought two of these beverage units thinking that they would be perfect in my new house....was I ever wrong.... they might be okay if all you wanted to do is chill wine, but they are TERRIBLE for soft drinks.... it doesn't matter what you set the temperature to, they will not cool below 44 degrees!!! Also, if drinks get too far to the back they freeze and burst .... ice forms along the back like a manuel defrost ...they have been nothing but a disaster....I am currently looking for replacements for both :-(

Poor Temperature
2 Star Review   By Seevee on Home Depot - Nov 27, 2008

The temp control does not keep beverages cold. The best I can do is 43 degrees which is inadequate. Other than that, it's adequate.

the flexibility of this fridge is what makes it a worthy purchase, can do wine or beer bottles. and digital temp setting at this price is a steal. nice product, great value

I like it!
5 Star Review   By homeowner21048 on Home Depot - Sep 14, 2008

This refrigerator holds a ton of cans, bottles, party trays, whatever you need. It stays between 39 and 41 degrees which is plenty cold enough for sodas and other drinks. It makes great temporary storage for a party and we've had no complaints in the two months we've owned it.

MAGIC CHEF 5.8 CU. FT.BEER & WINE COOLER- AWESOME PRODUCT!!!
5 Star Review

Strengths: SELF DEFROST, GREAT LOOKS & VERY RELIABLE

I OWN A RESTAURANT AND NEEDED A SMALL COUNTER TOP BEER & WINE COOLER. AFTER SPENDING TWICE AS MUCH MONEY FOR A COMMERCIAL UNIT BY COLD TEC THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS I FINALLY HAD IT. I CALLED MY SUPPLIER AND TOLD THEM THAT I WAS TAKING IT BACK TO THEM FOR A FULL REFUND AND DO NOT WANT ANOTHER REPLACEMENT OR ANY OTHER COLD TEC PRODUCT!!! I BOUGHT THIS MAGIC SHEF UNIT AT HOME DEPOT FOR $299. AND COULD NOT BE ANY HAPPIER. IT IS SELF DEFROSTING, LOOKS GREAT,WORKS GREAT,AND BEST OF ALL I SAVED $200. I HAVE A 10 CF MAGIC CHEF REFRIGERATOR AT MY OFFICE AND IT IS AS IMPRESSIVE AS WELL. DO NOT HESSITATE TO BY THIS UNIT. BEST BUY FOR THE BUCK!

Not Recommended
2 Star Review   By Nick112 on Home Depot - Jul 29, 2008

Great looking, but that is about as far as it goes. I returned this item after 3 days. It does not ever get down to the lowest setting of 39. After taking the temprature of most drinks they all average between 50-60 at that setting. SUGGESTION: Go with a different brand.

Does not cool below 39 degress
1 Star Review

Strengths: Attractive with lots of space.

Weakness: 39 degrees is not cold enough for beer and soft drinks.

This unit is billed as a beverage cooler, not a wine cooler. I would not recommnend this unit to anyone planning to refrigerate beer and sodas.Lots of space and attractive unit, but worthless due to limited temperature.

Not Cold Enough For Me
2 Star Review   By DSabatine on Home Depot - Apr 15, 2008

This unit is definitely very nice looking and sturdy. The tinted glass, blue temperature display, interior light and glass shelves are all a plus. However, if you want your drinks to be cold and not just cool, you should not buy this. I set the unit to it's lowest setting of 39 degrees. It struggles to get that low and usually reads about 42 degrees. This reading is taken on the top shelves of the unit. The bottom shelves registered between 44 and 48 degrees. I called the manufacturer and they said this is the exact same unit as their wine cooler only with different shelves and different packaging. The gentleman on the phone said it shouldn't be used for anything more than cooling beverages. I guess that is why it is called a "Beverage Cooler". Unfortunately I want something that can really chill a soda or bottled water. I wish it had a lower temperature setting than a wine cooler. But if you are looking for something for wine and you don't like your beer real cold, this would probably be perfect and it looks great.

Perfect for my needs
4 Star Review   By BriquceC on Home Depot - Mar 6, 2008

Nice product--fits perfectly into my "man" cave. Only complaint is that it was easily damaged moving it from our vehicle to our basement. (left a dent and a scratch on the side when sliding it out of the hatch) Another reviewer complained that the lowest setting was only 39 degrees. While beer temperature is a matter of taste, most experts recommend that beer should be served betweent 45 °F (light beer) and 60 °F (strong dark ales), I think the coldest temperature setting of 39 degrees is more than low enough. I'm not trying to freeze my beer.
