Whirlpool Duet Sport WFW8300SW
2 Star Review  productwiki.com - Jun 20, 2009

The Whirlpool Duet Sport WFW8300SW is a lower model front loading washing machine which fits at the bottom of the Duet Sport product line. The ultra capacity stainless steel was basket can handle 10 pairs of jeans in a single load, while its front load design and automatic water level control conserves water and energy making it Energy Star qualified. There are 7 factory pre-set wash cycles and options, including a cycle for quick wash, delicates and whitest whites to name a few, and also features a three-tray dispenser which releases detergent, bleach and fabric softener at appropriate times in the cycle. An innovative suspension system reduces vibration during operation, in which the wash basket reaches a maximum spin speed of 1,050 RPM. The quiet wash technology uses a sound-absorbing pad on the front of the cabinet helping reduce operational noise. Other features include child lockout and optional storage pedestals, laundry ... PROS: (1) efficient with both water and electricity (2) clothes come out clean and rather dry (3) compact size (4) quiet (5) Cleans clothes great! Comes out dry so drier runs works less. Easy to use! Efficient. ... CONS: (1) many are lemons - require a lot of money to fix or replace (2) prone to mildew growth (3) more expensive than top loading washers (4) no internal light

The longest 7 minutes of my life
1 Star Review

Strengths: Fun to watch the spin cycle on high.High-efficiency washer/dryer.

Weakness: Small capacity.Doesn't dry completely.Dryer sensor gets stuck at 7 minutes for over 2 hours. The washer vibrates violently.

These units came with my apartment, but I have to say, I'm not impressed. The washer is much smaller on the inside than it appears on the outside, and does not match the dryer capacity. Clothes never come out quite dry, and have on occasion come out with a smell due to the inadequate drying. Most worrisome, the automatic dryer cycles often get stuck at "7 minutes" for over two hours, which supposedly indicates a faulty sensor but appears to be a semi-common problem. The washer shakes quite violently on the high spin cycle. I'm worried that it will come after me in my sleep. The washer/dryer were installed about 2 months ago.

RUN AWAY FAST!
1 Star Review   By member TobyCollins463 - Sep 17, 2012

Strengths: It is a great washer except for the following which is a huge reason to run from this purchase!

Weakness: Mold builds up in the rubber seal, see comment...

I contacted Whirlpool Canada because the rubber seal around the opening became so odorous and realized there was actually a slimy buildup of mold. I've read other reviews where it was a flaw in design as the water sits. You would think a washing machine would be the cleanest appliance, but not in this case. I contacted Whirlpool and I was sent Affresh. It takes the smell away but as the rep even said, the mold is there to stay. A health hazard to say the least and I scowl every time I have to put something in or take out. Rather unhappy after paying good money. I could replace it she said at an $81 visit, $19 for every additional 15 minutes and the cost of the piece itself which I don't even wanna know, as chances are it'll just happen again. So fellow peeps, keep away from this product and save your money and health!

GRAB YOUR LAUNDRY AND RUN!!!!!!!
1 Star Review   By member Baseball2 - Aug 2, 2012

Strengths: saves water and electricity

Weakness: Drains poorly, vibrates, and leaves clothes wet

Have had washer for bout 3 yrs and honestly, I'm sick of it. Its loud, vibrates and rattles at the least imbalance. The drain is constantly getting clogged with the smallest things. THREAD. Have had numerous error codes and now I think I've got to have a new drain assembly. I'm afraid to even think how much it will cost and I'm gonna install myself. I really wish I had never bought the monster.

Bad Deal Bad Deal Bad Deal
1 Star Review

Weakness: Jet-like Turbine like noise, smells foul, costs more to repair than replace

Machine started to make a Jet Engine-like turbine noise recently. Had a tech look at it. Major parts are failing. Total cost to repair exceeds the cost of the unit by two fold. Called Whirlpool - typical customer service. Said I should have gotten the extended warranty. Asked how long these machines should work under normal circumstances before major failures - answer was 10-15. Seems pretty stupid to purchase an extended warranty for something that should work for awhile. Whirlpool being the great customer service organization they are is at least behaving consistently and not doing anything.

Very disappointed
1 Star Review

Strengths: uses less water

Weakness: rubber seal tears, pump attracts small items

This has been nothing but a disappointment. The door's rubber seal gets torn. I have had to replace it twice. From the tears, it looks like pant buttons get caught during the spin cycle. Whirlpool has not seen fit to come out with a rubber seal repair kit, so it costs over $200 each time. We have also had to replace the pump due to small items getting caught in it. I am religious about checking pockets, but those rare bobby pins that made it past me ended up costing around $250. At $650 I could have purchased a new machine. Even if this item is available at a "great price" you will end up paying, and paying, and paying in the end.

Spin cycle is the worst
1 Star Review

Strengths: Good wash cycle, clothes almost dry.

Weakness: Spin Cycle is loud, it looks like an earthquake.

Good wash machine but when it has to spin, it is completely annoying.By the way, the company where I bought it, had to replaced in the 1st week of using. Why? because the front panel was crazy. The next one had an error code F-22 (don't remember) but it was about the water temperature sensor, technician report whatever to avoid the problem... so I just had to use cold water =(And now that noisy sound like an old machine.

The Whirlpool Duet is not worth the money
2 Star Review

Strengths: cleans the clothes fairly well

Weakness: vibrates and shakes the entire floor when spinningtiming is constantly offdryer never drys clothes all the way when it automatically shuts off

I bought my first front load thinking I would get a better wash and because everyone was buying them because they were the new in thing. Well, believe me, I made a BIG mistake with the Whirlpool duet sport pair. Every since the day it was installed it has not dryed right and I can't tell you how many times it shut off after I went to bed and the towels were not fully dried and had to be re-washed due to mildew smell. I now have to bascially be near the dryer esp. when I am drying towels to avoid this from happening. The timing on the washer is totally screwed up all of the time. I don't recommend this pair to anyone. Go with the top load, I should have!!

Dont buy it!!
1 Star Review

Strengths: cleans the clothes

Weakness: clogs to often, expensive to fix

We have had to have the pump replaced now twice... and it just went out again!!! The washer is only 3 years old. It shouldn't have these kinds of problems. Between the service person and the parts we have paid 350 each time... No point in fixing it again... We will just be buying a new washing machine now. Very disappointing

Terrible Washer
1 Star Review

Weakness: Gasket, Pump, Door Lock, Noise, Filter, Smell

I bought this front load washer 5 years ago and have had to continually fix it. The gasket got torn and leaked. The door lock had major issues. Also, the filter needed cleaned periodically. Also, this thing has recently started producing horrid smells. So, I decided to go with a top load HE washer. I've been burned by the front load and will never go that route again.

Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer
1 Star Review

Weakness: Breaks after a short time

It is unfortunate that Whirlpool continues to put out a product of this caliber without a BUYER BEWARE sign. You cannot tell me that they don't know about the problems with these washers, but yet they continue to sell them. People cannot afford to pay this much money for an appliance to only last for maybe if you are lucky four years. I am extremely dissapointed and can't wait for the class action law suit against Whirlpool for continuing to market this product.

sport duet
2 Star Review   By member Janet98 - Oct 22, 2010

Weakness: length of cycle

I was so excited to buy this machine, now I want to sell them. The wash cycle is way too long. Sometimes takes 2 hours to do a load. The repair man said that it was my soap but I am scrooge with soap. I am now on my fourth type of soap and the ten towels that i washed tonight came out sopping wet. i would love to sell them and get rid of them. I bought them to save money on my electrical bill not pay more. This is what the repair man said is happening. I am not happy about this at all. I think that there is something else wrong with the machine.

Whirlpool Duet - Washer and Dryer
2 Star Review

Strengths: Washer WAS good when new.

Weakness: It shakes the house when spinning and it makes too much noise.

The washer WAS quiet when it was new. Just over 1 year old it started making noise when spinning (and it's getting worse). Our machine is on the 2nd floor and it shakes our house when it spins. So far we don't have problem with the dryer.

Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer and Dryer
1 Star Review

Strengths: uses less water

Weakness: Both units just hit a year old and I have already had the circuit board in the dryer replaced, the washer now leaks (yes, after a year), and I have had the motor in the washer get stuck.

I would NOT recommend purchasing this washer and dryer set. I wish we would have waited for these to be out longer before purchasing them as they are only trouble. The dryer gets stuck some times and continues drying after the clothes are already dry. This is after the new circuit board! We were getting the PF error on the dryer. The washer's motor got stuck (not covered under warranty) and now leaks water. We did not catch the water leak in time and now have damage to our base boards and wall. The water leak was UNDER the washer. Do NOT buy!

My second one is leaking too!
1 Star Review   By member ProductReview2009 - Oct 24, 2009

Strengths: Works well when not leaking

Weakness: This is the second washer that leaked

We got a Duet Sport two years ago. It worked fine for a year, then started to leak. The part they said needed to be replaced was on back order, so they replaced the washer with a new one. I've had it a year now, and it too has started leaking. I think it's time to give up on this model and try a new one

Buyer Beware!
1 Star Review   By member valpfeiffer - Aug 4, 2009

Strengths: Low water usage. Energy efficient.

Weakness: Vibration during spin cycle. Poor quality.

We have owned a Whirlpool Duet Sport washer and dryer for two years. The dryer's computer board went out shortly after one year. Today we found out the washer needs a new computer board as well. We have three people in our family and wash two to three loads a week, so the machine is not heavily used. We are very disappointed in the quality of our washer/dryer set.

Bellow tears and causes leaks
2 Star Review   By member cnetzell - Jun 9, 2009

Strengths: Leaves clothes dry and reduces drying time. U like the extra white rinse.

Weakness: This is the second time the bellow has torn causing it to leak water on to the floor.

I am frustrated with having to repair this washer again. We purchased two years ago. There is only the two of us and not a lot of heavy duty loads. Therefore I am unhappy with the repair record. I had a Maytag for 15 years with out any trouble, the motor just went out. It does help to run the bleach cleaing cycle once a month.

BOUGHT THE PAIR WITH PEDESTALS - 84100SW
3 Star Review

Strengths: USES VERY LITTLE WATER AND VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF HE SOAP..HAS DECREASED ELECTRIC BILL

Weakness: MUST HAVE WASHER PROPERLY INSTALLED AND BALANCED OTHERWISE IT WALKS. MUST WIPE OUT DOOR AREA AND BETWEEN GASKETS AFTER EACH WASH. MUST USE CLEAN WASHER CYCLE EACH MONTH.

IT TOOK SOME GETTING USE TO. I AM SAVING ON WATER, SOAP AND ELECTRICITY USAGE. I HAVE A TWO YEAR WARRANTLY WHICH GIVES ME SOME COMFORT. HAD TO PUSH A BIG COMFORTER INTO IT..WISH IT WERE LARGER INSIDE BUT GOT DUO AT A GOOD PRICE WHICH INCLUDE DELIVERY AND PEDESTALS. HOPING THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS AFTER 2 YEARS... TIME WILL TELL IF I MADE A GOOD DECISION HERE.

The worst Whirlpool product I have ever had!!!!!
1 Star Review   By member bklevine - Feb 19, 2009

Weakness: Vibrates so badly that you can hear it over the TV in the adjoining room banging against the wall, mildew collects in the rubber around the door on the inside and outside even though I leave it open.

In the beginning, I had my washing machine checked for shaking over and over again. They leveled it several times and replaced the shock absorbers. Machine is too heavy for me or any woman to correctly level it or clean behind it at any time. Whirlpool greatly needs to recall these washing/dryer machine products or have parts or problems repaired and replaced! This is my 3rd Whirlpool washing/dryer machines, their worst products ever!! They should not carry the Whirlpool name, they are so bad! Even the dryer timer causes it to run on and on continuously!

DON"T buy this
1 Star Review

Strengths: Nice Look, Good price

Weakness: If it breaks - hard to fix

For those who give good reviews about this Whirlpool washer Duet Sport, I was wondering how long they have owned it…..I wish them the best of luck. I have searched a few websites and I found so many people with bad experience with this particular washer and I was one of them. I thought it was my bad luck to get a ‘lemon’ washer but I guess I am not. Do NOT buy Whirlpool Duet Sport WFW8300S . I had it for a little over a year and it only took two washes to break it. Of course, I did not think to get extended warranty because I did not expect it will break so fast - so if you still want to buy it, make sure you get extended warranty with the option to replace your washer because there is a chance that it will not be fixable. When I called Whirlpool to fix my washer, they will certainly direct you to A&E Factory Service. DO NOT let them fix your appliances. They have less than desirable service. If you can find other service companies, I strongly suggest to use them. It has already been more than a month, from the first time I made the service call to Whirlpool and the washer is still broken. The first technician from A&E came really late and he did more talk than work. He diagnosed something is wrong with the control board , so he needed to order it. We waited for a week and it turned out that Whirlpool ordered the wrong parts two times, which delayed the service a few more weeks. I complained to Whirlpool until I don’t know how many times I already did it. The first person who took my call easily said that A&E has 90 days to fix my washer but I don’t have 90 days without washer!! Whirlpool rep told me that she would call me back but she never did, or they will transfer me to A&E - and the company I need to talk to is Whirlpool! If you plan on stacking the Duet Sport washer & dryer, be very aware that you will need to have the stack kit for this model. So, if one is broken (i.e.: washer) and then you want to replace it with a different brand you will have to get rid both of them. Three parts were replaced, the washer is still not working. It keeps giving ‘F28’ error code. I lost my patience then I bought a brand new washer (not Whirlpool). I know I have spent more money but I don’t want any headache. My experience from this is - Whirlpool (Duet Sport washer) and A&E Factory Service are not good combination. Best of luck for your appliance hunting.

Great Combo
5 Star Review   By member blueeyeguy - May 25, 2008

Strengths: Gets wash really clean, very quiet overall, green

Weakness: needs to be levelled carefully

it does need to be levelled very well or the spin cycle will vibrate alot, btthis is also because when it spins at the highest speed it is removing so much of the water in the clothes. They come out of the WASHER alot dryer than from other regular machines. As for the detergent, expensive but you use so little you wont notice.

Not Impressed With Washer, Whirlpool, or "Authorized" Repair Organizations
1 Star Review

Strengths: Uses less water. Quieter than previous front loading machine.

Weakness: Door seal broke after only 2 months. Difficult to get repaired or replaced. Warranty is worthless.

I purchased this washer in early January 2008. The front door seal (tub bellow) tore after less than 2 months of use. In spite of numerous phone calls and emails to Whirlpool, I have not been able to get the machine repaired. It has been a week now and I'm knee deep in disgusting, soiled laundry. The soonest it can be repaired is sometime next week. My mother-in-law lives with us. She is 88-years-old, has Alzheimer's, is an invalid and incontinent. In spite of all the efforts we have taken to prevent "accidents", I have to change her bedding every morning. I usually have to change her night clothes at least once during the night and she goes through at least one change of clothes during the day (that's a total of 2 outfits each day). I desparately need a reliable washer. That is why I bought a brand new washer in Janary. Not being able to wash any of this nasty laundry has put us in a difficult situation. We live out in the country so I can't just drive down the street to a laundry mat. I also work full time, as does my husband. We have both altered our work schedules so that one of us can be with her most of the time. We have a caregiver for parts of 3 days a week that we can't be with her. When I'm not at my job, I'm taking care of an invalid. When I'm I supposed to wash all this stuff? We are now out of bed linens and clothing for my mother-in-law and our garage smells like an outhouse. All I get from Whirlpool's customer service is "We are sorry, but there is nothing they can do." The first repair company I called said it would take 11 days to order the part from the east coast. That is total BS. I called the company from which I purchased the machine and they said it would only take one day to get the part. Unfortunately, they are not an "authorized" repair company so I'd have to pay them out of my pocket and pray that I get reimbursed by Whirlpool. Since Whirlpool won't pay for the out-of-pocket repairs to our 10-month-old stove, I don't expect them to pay for this repair either. The second "authorized" repair company I called, can't come out until sometime next week. In other words, I've been screwed and didn't even get kissed. Whatever you do, do not buy ANYTHING from Whirlpool. Their warranty isn't worth paper on which it is printed. The only positive thing I can say about them is that their customer service people do seem to at least be in the United States and speak English.

Great Washer!
4 Star Review   By member MeOlMe - Feb 14, 2008

Strengths: Cut down our energy bill tremendously.

Weakness: This washer's capacity is much smaller than the el cheapo one we had for over 7 years. From the outside, you can't really tell as it is so heavy and large. But the inner capacity wish it were bigger.

I bought both the washer and dryer for Christmas. They look great together and the price was unbeatable. The regular detergent we had won't work with this washer. We had to get the HE kind, which cost a bit more than the regular. Another thing is you won't see any suds during wash, so it's kind of hard to tell if your clothes are actually being cleaned until you take them out.

leakfest
1 Star Review   By member sunseed - Jan 23, 2008

Strengths: it wasn't too expensive for a front loader and it's better than the laundromat.

Weakness: it has leaked out the bottom of the door since shortly after we put it in service. the repair folks have been out many times, but it actually seems to be getting worse even with replaced parts.

i'd advise against it, but who knows, maybe ours is just a reject. i'm hoping we can trade it in on another brand. my wife wants to try the same model again, but i think she's asking for trouble.

Whirlpool Duet Washer
4 Star Review   By member htny01k - Jan 22, 2008

Strengths: Efficient, Easy to use, Reliable.

This is a fantastic machine. It works well and very efficient. It uses very little water to wash because of the front loading capability. Unlike a top load washer, the Duet front loading washer is very easy to load clothes in and out of the washer and it cleans your clothes well due to its front load design. This washer has saved me money because of its efficiencies and it has made my clothes sparkling clean. Overall, a good buy for anyone looking for a washer.

Great Washer Real quiet
4 Star Review   By member ktkrause - Jan 17, 2008

Strengths: Unbelievably quiet. Washes clothes without beating them up. Efficient

Weakness: Vibrates see comments below

This is a great Washer. It is efficient, quiet, and I have had no problems with it - so I like it. The one thing that takes getting used to is the vibrations. This thing spins so fast that it definitely vibrates the floor. It is not overly noisy when doing this, but nonetheless it does vibrate. I am amazed at how fast it spins when drying. oh yea, it drys the clothes very well which means less time in the dryer...

Whirlpool WFW 8300SW Duet Sport Washer
5 Star Review   By member shahhere - Jan 13, 2008

Strengths: Nice and queit. Washes the clothes nice and fresh.

Weakness: Clumsy soap dispenser tray setup & the washer is really really heavy.

Like i said the washer is really really heavy and is about 300lbs so make sure you get enough help when picking up the unit or get delivery because it will be worth it. The dryer is not as heavy and can be easily picked up by 2 people. The sport version of this Duet line is quite a bit smaller than expected. Also please remember that you have to use High Efficiency Detergent and cannot use regular ditergent.

Reltively quiet, cleans well
4 Star Review   By member sjelg - Jan 7, 2008

Strengths: Energy efficient, noise less obtrusive (than old top loader)

Weakness: You do have to wipe the water out of the front seal and leave door open after using.

Bought as a pair with matching dryer because of a very good deal with rebate around black Friday. Washer capacity is less than old top loader, but we are a small family and the top loader was inefficient at smaller loads. While this washer does make noises, they are more water sloshing and not heavy machine motor noises. It must be leveled correctly or the spin cycle can be noisy with vibration. We did not get the pedestals (due to cost) which seems to help keep the spin cycle vibration down.

Good value for money
4 Star Review   By member mochiball - Jan 5, 2008

Strengths: energy efficient, water-saver, gentle on clothes, cleans well, price, quiet, intuitive interface

Weakness: small capacity, low to ground (unless you buy the pedestal), more expensive HE detergent, water collects and small items get trapped at base of rubber seal

Bought washer/dryer pair for great price at black friday sale. Have been very pleased with the performance of both. It's definitely an improvement over my old top-loader in almost every area. Capacity is similar to a standard top-loader. I would recommend this only for single/small families. On average I still need to do 2-3 loads a week for my family of 3. So if you can afford it, a larger capacity washer would be the way to go. One minor thing to note is that water seems to collect around the rubber seal at the base of the opening. I just leave the door open after use to prevent mildew. Also, small items (i.e. baby socks) tend to get stuck in between the rubber seal as well, nothing a lingerie bag won't fix. Overall, great buy.

my first front loader, works great!
4 Star Review   By member funkadelic - Jan 2, 2008

Strengths: quieter than my top-loader, energy efficient, may qualify for a rebate through your energy provider

Weakness: low door if you don't use a pedestal, pedestal prices are absurd (~$200)

The washer is a lot quieter than my top-loader during the wash cycles. This is important since the laundry room is near my bedroom & I often start loads when i go to bed. One of the (minor) nags that I have about it, since i don't feel like paying an outrageous $200 for a pedestal, is of the low door height. I know this is so that they can sell the overpriced pedestal, but I will eventually build a platform that will hold both my washer and dryer. Also, I qualified for a $75 energy rebate through my energy provider (PG&E in Northern California) by buying this washer. Be sure to check if your provider has rebates for purchasing energy efficient major appliances.

Clean Washer Cycle
1 Star Review   By member CathyOH - Dec 29, 2007

Strengths: Wash cycles all seem to do a good job.

Weakness: When I run the clean washer cycle, water LEAKS out the bottom of the door.

I am waiting for a third service person to come to try to fix this. They have already tried different parts, and no success. This cycle has leaked since the first time I ran it. I just wonder if all the other owners are running their clean washer cycles as suggested. Other than this, it does fine, except that the longer length of the cycles has taken some getting used to. An Excellent Washer
5 Star Review   By member JerryWest_44 - Dec 28, 2007

Strengths: - Easy to Use -- Both of my teens luv to use it- Quiet- No vibration if balanced

The vibration complaints above are ill founded. The key is make sure all four sides are balanced perfectly. Once balanced make sure you lock down all for legs using a 14mm wrench to all four leg nuts. I replaced a Maytag Neptune washer

So glad I bought it!
5 Star Review

Strengths: I love the reduced amount of water needed for each load and the energy effiency. Love the looks and the height with the pedestals, makes it easy to use.

Weakness: I guess the only weakness for me would be the tiny bit of traveling during the spin cycle. But my old top loader moved a bit as well, its not enough to be a real problem for me.

I read every review I could find before taking the plunge and was pretty nervous about it, but the idea of 17-19 gallons vs 40 per load really swayed me. I've had the set, with pedestals for a little over 3 months now and have NO regrets! I did buy the extended warranty which I usually never do, but wanted an insurance policy. I do a bit of preventive maintenance after using the washer though, by wiping down the seal and soaking up the little bit of water inside the seal when I'm finished each day, takes about 1 minute, and I leave the door open, hopefully that will prevent any mold or mildew. I also bought a product called afresh for this same purpose but haven't used it yet. I love using the washer and dryer. Absolutely! I am one of those crazy people that enjoys doing laundry anyway (wierd I know!)but now i REALLY love doing the laundry. I'm actually happy when my college age daughter comes home with a pile of dirty clothes. lol I would buy this set again, definitely. I only wish I had it when my kids were little and I did tons of laundry. As to the capacity...I think it holds an adequate amount. Obviously if you want a mega capacity you should buy one of the larger models. But this one is a nice in-between. The HE laundry detergent seems to last forever. It takes such a small amount for each load, and I love being able to add in my fabric softner so easily. Haven't had any trouble with the detergent, but I don't add it in until I'm ready to start the washer as it drains out if you add it hours before starting the load. I guess it only drains into the tub, but I wait till I'm ready to turn washer on. No trouble with the bleach. The tendancy to overfill is there...bit I'm sticking to the manufactors recommendations.

Very glad we made this purchase
5 Star Review   By member sciteacher - Dec 21, 2007

Strengths: Very quiet, saves energy, many features

Weakness: None that I have noticed

We have had no issues with this washer. We purchased the both Duet Sports and couldn't be happier. We live in a loft condominium and we have them stacked. We notice no vibrations and the machine is extremely quiet compared to our old machine. It's a bonus that it uses less water and energy. I would highly recommend this appliance. Very tough to beat for features and price.

Whirlpool Duet Washer
4 Star Review   By member morgothtdo - Dec 17, 2007

Strengths: Reasonably priced, energy efficient, clean design.

Weakness: Does vibrate quite a bit in the spin cycle. Pedestals are outrageous ($200 each).

I purchased this washer to replace an old top loading one that was past its prime. I had read that front load washers were more energy efficient and used less water which is certainly true. But not only does this help with the energy efficiency of the washer, but the dryer as well because the clothes do not come out nearly as wet as they did with my old washer so therefore take less time to dry. And since the dryer is one of the most expensive appliances to run this results in some nice savings. The only downside versus the old top load is that you can't just decide to throw in a couple more things when its filling or you will end up with a pile of water on the floor. It is recommended you use high efficiency (HE) laundry detergent with this washer which could be a downer for some. We only use All detergent because of some sensitivity issues and it is the same price per number of loads for the HE and regular kinds. The only real downside to the washer so far is like most other reviewers have said the spin cycle can get a little out of control. Its virtually silent until then, but once it hits the laundry room does start shaking and we've had a few things fall off the shelves around it. I've heard some various recommendations for stabilization that I have not tried yet. I have also read about some mold issues with the washer so it is important when you are done washing you do not seal the door so the leftover water can evaporate. You also should use the cleaning cycle with bleach as recommended to prevent this.

Duet Sport Washer
4 Star Review   By member ra_thirumuruhan - Dec 15, 2007

Strengths: Silent. Energy efficient. Consumes less time to wash a load.

Weakness: The final beep sound that intimates the completion can be made as a volume adjuster. In my home the washer is in garage, many a times i dont hear the beep sound for its feeble.

Overall I am very happy with this washer. Easy to use, energy efficient, water saver, time saver, silent operator, user friendly. I highly recommend this washer. Its one of the best buy I ever made.

Whirlpool Duet Washer
5 Star Review   By member dvi10 - Dec 10, 2007

Strengths: Front loading, energy efficient, less wear on cloths, dryer is stackable

Weakness: none so far

When this washer and dryer pair went on sale on "black friday", I purchased them at a great price. I was attracted to the Whirlpool brand because of its good reliability and so far, so good. Cleans cloths great. I was mostly unfamiliar with front load washers before now so I'll highlight some of the things I have discovered using this washer. Number one, it's much easier on cloths than a top-loader. Cloths are cleaned by tumbling into the water and detergent "bath" and not by using an agitator. This uses much less water and detergent and is more energy efficient than a top load washer. Because of this design, cloths come out quite a bit dryer than in our old machine and drying time is a fair amount shorter, also resulting in less energy usage. As with most front loaders, wash cycles are longer (45 minutes to over an hour) but that's really not a problem for us. There are 7 wash cycles available on the front panel and detergent and bleach are added via a slide out panel. I think you can create custom cycles, but haven't gotten that far yet. Our Duet holds 3.3 cf of laundry. Whirlpool make other Duet models of varying capacity and size. We like the sport model because of its smaller footprint; we have the dryer as well and that stacks on top of the washer if so desired. Very neat and compact! I've heard about mildew smell problems on front loaders and to leave the front door open after use. We have so far, not had any such problems even with the door closed, but will update this review if we discover this later. The washer is whisper quiet, ours sits on a concrete floor in the basement. I have heard some people may have noise issues during the spin cycle when the washer is on the second (wood) floor so be advised to ask about that before purchasing.

A very good value for your money
5 Star Review   By member praveeng - Dec 7, 2007

Strengths: positive reviews everywhere, low failure ratio, comparatively cheap

Weakness: smaller capacity, some vibration

Overall, I would give this washer 90/100. The only reason it didnt get a 100 is that there's a little bit of vibration that you can feel in another room, and the capacity is small. But I think Whirlpool also makes a bigger capacity washer in the "duet" range. Other than that, we liked the washer very much.

Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer
4 Star Review   By member katiegal - Dec 5, 2007

Strengths: I was hesitant to try this washer at first, because of all the selections on the control panel! But it is easy to understand, and is very quiet when running. I have not had any vibration problems.

Weakness: Could have a larger capacity, and I didn't know about having to use he detergent, which is a nuisance as the regular types seem to be the ones on sale!Other than that, it is fine!

Well, I really do like this washer and dryer (we got the pair). As for the washer, it is very quiet, and because we had it installed, the delivery men leveled it really well and ran it through a short cycle before they were through. It does not vibrate (as others have mentioned), although we do not have it on a pedestal, and that may have something to do with it. As far as the F-01 error that another reviewer mentioned--someone I know had the same problem and they just had to unplug it for 2 minutes and it reset itself and worked fine (good info to remember)! I was surprised that we have to use the HE detergent, but amazed at the low water usage!

Duet Sport WFW8300SW Washer
4 Star Review   By member leedc3 - Nov 25, 2007

Strengths: High quality unit - quiet unit. Pedestals are key - small size makes the door low.

Weakness: Pedestals are extremely expensive! Knobs seem alittle cheap, but OK.

Just got this washer and dryer set (Duet Sport) over Thanksgiving. Excellent unit - just started putting it to use. Make sure you use HE detergent - I don't get the full chemistry behind it, but I recommend doing it (although you'll find other 'home remedies' on-line). Water and energy usage is amazing from all I hear, so can't wait for the first bill. The Pedestals are a must, unless you are 4 ft. tall - make sure you get 1 tall enough that can fit a detergent bottle. High quality unit.

Amazing Washer
4 Star Review   By member claweave - Nov 23, 2007

Strengths: Cheap price, clean looking, energy efficient, high quality

I love this washer. I can put so much more in there and it is so much quicker and energy efficient. It said the annual electricity cost including the water from the electric water heater is $13! The washers seems to get clothes clean, quickly and efficiently. I like how much quicker I can get my laundry done. If I had it to do all over again though I would definitely buy one that had a larger capacity washer. No other complaints to this date.

Duet Sport WFW8300SW
4 Star Review   By member Marvin88 - Nov 23, 2007

Strengths: Gets close much cleaner Saves on water consumption Saves on energy consumption Space saver

Weakness: Spin cycle can get a little loud if at all out of balance

This is a great washer. It really gets close very clean and fits into the space that a std. 25" deep washers fit into. Don't be fooled by the Whirlpool requirements for space. If you have space constraints (as I did) go measure it yourself - it should still fit. Make sure you properly balance this machine though as the spin cycle can get quite loud if it is out of balance.

Buyer Beware!!!
1 Star Review   By member Nicole2007 - Nov 21, 2007

Strengths: For the first six months I was able to use my washer, I loved it. I found that it was quiet and efficient.

Weakness: BUT when an F-01 error code happens...it locks your clothes inside!! There is nothing you can do. Waited two months for them to replace the machine, the new one did the SAME THING after 2 loads!!

Horrible product! Whirlpool is seriously lacking in quality control. I am still waiting for my replacement to see if the third machine will have the same problem. I find it very hard to believe that I am just jinxed.

Whirlpool washer 8300
5 Star Review   By member nfn14655 - Nov 18, 2007

Strengths: Unbelievably quiet! Easy to use and, so far, exactly what we wanted in a washer.

Weakness: Takes 55 minutes for each load of laundry- too long! We haven't tried 'quick wash' as of yet but hope it cleans as well.

Can't believe how little water it uses & the capacity is great. We've washed large sheet sets, duvet cover, etc... "Spin' cycle starts like a small turbine engine taking off but is isn't loud. Overall very happy.

Problems
1 Star Review

Weakness: F20 and unwashed cloths

Problems with my second washer in 4 months. First one was relpaced the first week for F20 error code and wouldn't complete wash cycle. Now 4 months later the second washer is doing the same thing. This looks like a common issue with all the post and questions online about it. You get junk for your money and they make a profit.

Duet 8300
1 Star Review   By member kylebrown - Aug 21, 2007

Strengths: Cleans well. Low water use.

Weakness: Out of control vibration and movement.

My first Duet 8300 came crashing out of my laundry room. It broke a door off the hinges and smashed a light switch. The service man the store in which I purchasing the washer told me there was nothing he could do to stop the vibration. The store brought me out a new washer a week later. They said the first one must be faulty. The second one, on the third wash knocked a hole in the laundry room wall and shook the walls in my house so badly a large picture frame in the living room fell off the wall. Personally, Im tired of paying good money for junk. Whirlpool told me the only real fix for the problem is to not use the pedestal.

Sport Duet 8300S
3 Star Review   By member jbglds - Aug 14, 2007

Strengths: Cleans great ! The reduction in the amount of water used is great. Quietness as well.

Weakness: Initally in spin cycle it really rocked and rolled. Thought it was going to take off. But this was resolved and anyone having this problem check. See comments below.

Even if it is level where you have it you should level if possible when it is in a spin cycle. My problem was the adjustable legs on the pedistal. Make sure the lock nuts are at the top and tightened against the pedestal. This will prevent the vibration. If you have the pedestal check instructions on page 5 step 4. This so far has solved my problem.

Vibrating spin cycle is very annoying
2 Star Review   By member Debbie96H - Aug 8, 2007

Strengths: Great washing and easy to operate. Love how quiet the wash and rinse cycles are.

Weakness: Spin Cycle is out of control

I love this machine except for the vibrating spin cycle. I'm afraid the machine is going to fall over (It's on a pedestal.) If I can't find a solution for this, it's going somewhere else. We put the laundry room on the first floor of our house along with our living quarters. I took great care to use 2x6 walls to insulate against any noise but it sounds like the house is sitting on the railroad tracks when the spin cycle starts. It's terrible.

GREAT
5 Star Review

Strengths: Cleans well, does not leak, does not get moldy.

Got this washer with the birth of our first child for the increase in clothes to be washed, has been a hoss, and very reliable. I would not trade it in, nice size and does not move if placed on a small piece of wood under the machine.

Love EVERYTHING About It!
5 Star Review   By member cleemich - Dec 28, 2006

Strengths: Cleans wonderfully (especially like the 'whitest whites' cycle), quiet, energy efficient

Weakness: Can't think of any

I have both the Duet Sport washer and dryer and am thrilled with both. I have a first floor laundry room off of my kitchen with no door in between. The units are so quiet that you can't even tell that they are running except for when the washer goes into the spin cycle. I don't agree with the 'floor show' comment made by the previous poster. I hardly notice any vibration and the noise from the spin cycle is barely noticeable. Would recommend these appliances to any one!

Cleans Great, IF You Can Stand The Floor Show
2 Star Review   By member theshadow - Sep 25, 2006

Strengths: Low water use, cleans well, most of cycle is quiet.

Weakness: Spin cycles are a nightmare of noise and movement.

Don't be too impressed by Whirlpool's claim that this unit was an improved suspension system that keeps it quiet and reduces vibration. When it starts to spin, it turns from a placid, energy-saving washer, into a monster. It shakes and vibrates, as does the floor and anything nearby. It might be okay on a concrete basement floor, but if you have a first-floor laundry, even one with a well-supported floor as we do, it's another matter. Don't expect help from your retailer or Whirlpool; they'll just tell you that "well, front load machines tend to do that".
