Cost too much to fix
1 Star Review   By MaddiC on Home Depot - Feb 21, 2012

I had this item serviced 7 times in the 5 years I owned it. I decided to have a local company come in because the repairman that came out from Maytag damaged the closet the washer was located in, and a ladder her asked me to use while he was trying to fix it. All in all I paid more than 1 1/2 times the original priceto fix it, sent maytag all my receipts when I was told the replacement parts exceeded the price of buying a new washer nevermind the cost of labor, decided to do this review to possibly save someone else a few dollars.

So far a great little washer
4 Star Review   By bodog on Home Depot - Feb 16, 2012

I had to buy something 25.5 inches wide or under and this was the better choice of those made -and available at the time. the GE was similar but not going to be available for a couple of months. so far this washer is easy to use, holds a good sized load and does spin the clothes fairly dry. i have definitely seen the dryer time cut back. i have not had any problems with it so far after only a few weeks. i think this washer holds about as much as my previous but old maytag top loader. the clothes come out clean and just damp. ease of use. cycle time is around 54 minutes. uses minimal water. i am hoping it lasts a long time.

Don't waste your time
1 Star Review

Strengths: It works for 3-6 months

Weakness: Not dependable after 6 months.

On my 3rd one in 3 years, the waranty company doesn't want to come anymore and Maytag won't do anything. If you enjoy throwing your money away this is the machine for you.

Washer almost as bad as Maytag "customer service".
1 Star Review   By Decasaint on Home Depot - Jul 13, 2011

I purchased a model number MAH2400AWW washer on 6/21/11. When I got it home, not only did the door not open, but water exploded all over the floor when I tried to run a cycle. When I called for “customer service”, I was referred by Maytag to a third party repair shop. The first appointment was available 7/5/11. The repair man showed up over an hour late, and informed me that the washer was missing over $125 worth of parts. He put them on order and scheduled an appointment for another week later (7/12/11). I took a day off of work to be home for the appointment, but the repair company never sent anybody, nor contacted me. I had to call them the next day, where they informed me that the parts necessary were on back order, and they had no idea when they would arrive. I called Maytag “customer service” again, and was told that my only option was to wait until 7/31/11 for the part to be available, and then make another appointment for service. I told them this was unacceptable, as this would mean I had paid several hundred dollars, yet would not have a working machine for ~40 days. I requested a new machine but was denied by employees who had no interest in helping me at all. Even explaining to them that parts and labor were going to cost more than the cost of replacement did not work. Both Maytag’s products and “customer service” are terrible. Do not buy Maytag products!

The best washer I have ever owned - second hand!
5 Star Review   By member kitbil - Jun 11, 2011

Strengths: Washes VERY well when you follow directions.Totally programmable.Small footprint.Amazing capacity for 2.4 cu. in.Energy efficient.

Weakness: Will eat change if you do not remove it will cause a pump problem which, however, is easy to fix and avoid.

Quite possibly the best washer and dryer set I have ever owned. I have owned GE, Kitchenaid, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire washers and dryers in the past (all top load) and had problems with each set that required replacement eventually. I moved into a condominium and had only 26 inches of laundry space to work with -my only choices were the permanently stacked, small, crappy Whirlpool and GE sets or this set and its cousin Whirlpool (I am assuming the same thing with different badging). I was set to purchase them new from Sears for $1300., but, I found the same set used on Craigslist for $350. bucks for the pair! (1 year old). I ran a few loads and noticed a "clacking" noise when the washer drained..checked the internet...found that this machine will eat change and found a quick fix (open the pump assemly on the bottom -shake change out -voila) and also found a remedy (place a plastic screw anchor in the middle of the drainage slot within the rubber seal - fixed). Long story short, have owned them now for a year myself, nothing but sparkling clean clothes and total energy savings. If you don't abuse them (although this washer can handle a TON of clothes -surprisingly) you will get the same results. In other words, follow the directions and quit being lazy....

Excellent service! Excellent Price! Excellent Size!
5 Star Review   By happymommy2011 on Home Depot - May 14, 2011

Oh, I can go on and on about my new washer! I love the size, I love the great cleaning it does, I am super excited to continue the working relationship! LOL If you have children, this washing machine is just right for their laundry baskets to be emptied. The clothes come out clean and almost (really) dried. So far I cannot complain. I did not purchase the pedastil for the washing machine but I will when I get the dryer in time. Thanks to Maytag and Home Depot for their wonderful service and manufacturing!

Lasted for 4 years
4 Star Review   By BklynDave on Home Depot - Apr 19, 2011

If anyone wants to know what you can fit in a 2.3 cubic foot washer, know that I could fit my queen sized cotton comforter in it (big, and very heavy when wet). I could do almost a full hamper (about 15-17 lbs) of laundry. This means I usually did a load of whites and a load of colors each week (drop off at the laudrymat would be $13.50 as of 4/2011). I didn't have a proper laundry drain in the kitchen (I live in a rental) so I have the hose drain into the kitchen sink (I have a double sink so it's okay). (If you don't have a water hook up, you can buy an adapter for your kitchen faucet, too.) I bought this washer as a floor sample about 4 years ago for $400. For a small Brooklyn kitchen, it's a perfect fit and has worked great for most of the 4 years. On the 23 minute "Quick Wash" I could get a couple loads done in under an hour...clean and spun very "dry." The spin is super fast and it runs on 110 volts (regular plug). My roommate used to say "De plane! De plane!" when it would spin at it's fastest -- like Tattoo from Fantasy Island. Hilarious. Over the past few months, the control panel seemed to start pooping out. First the "SUDS" indicator would come on and the machine would stop -- even if you used High Efficiency detergent ("HE"). You'd have to turn it off and turn it on "Rinse" over and over again to get it to complete the laundry cycle. Now the control panel just doesn't work at all so no more washing machine. Boo! Since I paid so little for it to begin with, and I feel I got a lot of use out of it (hundreds of loads) esp. with all the roommates I've had, I'm just going to replace it with the same model. I know appliances used to last 20 years...and I wish my washer lasted longer. (I did take the water pump apart myself when a quarter got stuck in it. I'm not averse to doing repairs, but this is more than I can do) but in accounting/tax terms, the machine was fully depreciated and it's time for a new one.

exactly what i expected
4 Star Review   Home Depot

i live in a small second floor apartment with narrow, steep stairs. this was one of the only washing machines that would fit up my stairs. i have had it for a month now and run it at least every day (cloth diapers). everything gets clean on the "quick wash" cycle which is nice. the spin cycle is "intense". i wouldnt say its loud because theres no banging or anything like that. it just sounds like a loud, mechanical whirring. works great, especially for its size. so far, i love it.

3 Star Review   By Maggiegirl on Home Depot - Nov 24, 2010

I have owned the Maytag since 2007 and in these years i replaced the Assy- Housing Drawer pt#PS2037079 five times. The waterways clog up and the water over flows down the front of the washer.Rather noisy and grinds during cycles.

Worked for 4 1/2 years, but now has a problem.
4 Star Review   By NormNTam on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2010

About 5 years ago we bought this washer and it's matching dryer because of space constraints in our condo's laundry closet. It worked fine for 4 1/2 years, but 6 months ago started blowing circuit breakers after 2 wash loads. So right now my wife can only do two loads of laundry at a time on any given day. If not for this problem, I would give it 5 stars. It still works ok for 2 loads, but the problem it has is worrisome. We may need to service or replace it soon. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Great compact waher /dryer
4 Star Review   By serenity62 on Home Depot - Jul 1, 2010

I bought both the washer and dryer and only had 26 inches depth to fit them stacked in my closet.( You must buy the stacker separately.) They fit perfectly. Being compact they don't hold as much as a regular machine but still do a regular load. No more extra bid loads. Easy to use. The dryer holds more than the washer in my opinion. It's a little noisy but what dryer isn't. The washer is pretty quiet. I'm happy with them!

If I Could Give It A Zero, I Would
1 Star Review   By NeverAnotherMaytag on Home Depot - Jan 4, 2010

Just after the warranty expired, the front door started leaking. After replacing the door, it continued to leak, getting gradually worse and now pours water onto the floor with each cycle. My previous Maytag lasted 20 years, this one is a heap of leaking metal in 2 - if you are going to buy a disposable washer, don't spend this much money on it.

green vs. grunge
1 Star Review   Home Depot

Don't believe the eco-hype; the cleaning power of this "high-efficiency" washer is superficial at best. It just can't clean the sweat out of t-shirts, for example, and that's about as basic a laundry need as it gets. Also, there's no manual override and very little manual adjustment possible of the built-in cycles. An expensive piece of junk.

Good value and cleans very well
4 Star Review   By Marissa on Home Depot - Oct 26, 2009

I purchased the washer and dryer with the plan of stacking them but ended up putting it side by side so I can get more storage space above the machines. This machine cleans very well and it spins out a lot of the water so it takes less time in the dryer. It does its job and no complaints on that part. I gave it only 4 stars because the washer, although leveled, shakes so much when it spins on High that I worry it bothers my condo neighbors. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the shaking. I may have to take the spin level down a notch. I would still recommend it and it's perfect for condo dwellers or smaller spaces.

Horrible, Horrible & Horrible
1 Star Review

Strengths: stackable & a good size for a closet.

Weakness: everything

This is the worst washer that I have ever had. I purchased this a few years ago and had problems within the first 2-3 months. I had my husbands uniform in the washer when it decided to fail. I called customer service and they sent a repair man a week later. Problem: the uniform was stuck in the washer and the door would not open. Police uniforms are very expensive. I had to purchase a new uniform for about $200. The repairman came and told me the pump was broke and it needed to be replaced, it was covered under warranty and the problems were fixed free of charge. The pump had to be shipped to me from maytag, then I had to call A&E to reschedule an appt for them to replace it. Total time without washer was about 3 weeks, laundrymat bill was about $200+. A few months later, i was having a party and I placed all of my bath & kitchen rugs into the washer, again, the washer brakes. Now I had to replace all of the rugs, another week for repair, another week for pump to arrive, another week for repairman to replace. 3 weeks later + more laundrimat bills, rug bills and headache.3rd time, I had a party to go to and put all of my jeans in the washer and bam, washer brakes, door locks, no jeans. I had no choice but to run to the gap and get 2 pairs of jeans for the next 3 weeks. 2 pairs of jeans at the gap + $140. I then decided to call maytag and demand a refund or a new machine and they declined stating that they would just replace the pump again. How could this happen? After 4th time, I then threatened to bring them to court. The cost was killing me,between the laundromat, replacement, uniforms, jeans, rugs and tylenol were out of control. They did finally replace my washer and I was able to get $100 for the laundromat bill. Guess what, The new washer arrives and the same crap again. I could have invested in my own laundromat by now. The pump broke at least 8-10 times between both machines. This is a manufactureres problem, the pumps are made of plastic and brake way too easy. Only one time did a quarter get jammed in there, all of the other times was just poor quality parts. I have 2 children that wet the bed and I need to do laundry everyday like most families. Save yourself the stress and headache, buy another brand. Maytag used to be the cadillac of washing machines, but now they are way at the bottom. The repairman even told me don't buy a maytag, they always break. I hear sears is the best place to buy, they are supposed to have great warrantys and customer service. If you are out of warranty and you do have something stuck in the pump, just do it yourself, it is very easy. I have listed the directions below. I hope my review was helpful to you. Pump jammed with coin or other object. 1. UNPLUG washer & tilt washer back. 2. on the bottom of the waher all the way to the right is 4 screws, the 4 screws are in a square. unscrew all 4 screws. 3. Place a few towels on the floor under the pump. 4. disconnect the clamps on both hoses. Water will come out of both hoses, so this is where the towels come in. 5. disconnect the wire that is attached to the hose. 6. take pump out. 7. there are 3 screws on the pump. unscrew them and then the coins or other objects will come out. 8. put everything back together. If you need anyhelp, just e-mail me.

5 Star Review   By kingkrab on Home Depot - Aug 3, 2009

this is a great washer that gets our clothes very clean with little water wasted. The only problem we have is the noise when it spins. We live in an apt and everything shakes. Otherwise, it's a great machine and yes, I would recommend it.

a little small but quite capable
5 Star Review   By davegingerich on Home Depot - May 17, 2009

Yes, it is a little small -- compared to those Extra Super Large Ultra Capacity washers that are about the size of a Chevy Suburban. But let's face it. How many times are you going to do laundry for the entire football team? This unit has the capacity for any apartment with 1 - 2 people and it fit perfectly into my small closet. It cleans my clothes just fine and I can easily fit a week's worth of 'dirties' in it at one time. Sure beats using the dark, poorly-lit, ugly, communal laundry facility in my apartment complex. Delivery was simple, quick and easy. Hook up went without a hitch. The unit is surprisingly quite as I can't imagine there is room for much sound deadening material. It is also quick. I've used full size, high-efficiency washers before and they seem to take forever to finish a load. This unit does not. You'll be perfectly happy with how long a full load takes. I purchased this with the Maytag Neptune stacking dryer and the pair work very well together ... and look perfectly cute to boot.

Small Maytag Washer
4 Star Review   By NCBuyer on Home Depot - Jan 5, 2009

I love mine. Very small, but fit beautifully in the space (only had a closet! - house is 950 sq feet). Does a fine job. Just don't cram it full. I would highly recommend this washer for those who have space for only a stackable. Not cheap, but much better quality than a tin-like stacked unit. I bought the washer and dryer and had them stacked. My second set of Neptunes. Previous set was full-sized - in a big house. The small set seems just as well made.

A Powerful Washer For a Compact Size
3 Star Review   By member wxjcupo - Jul 25, 2008

Strengths: Compact Design, Plenty of Options, Efficient

Weakness: Spin Cycle Noise and Vibration

I have been using this washer now for about a month. I decided to purchase this washer as a replacement to a broken, discontinued Avanti model that came with the condo unit I purchased in Puerto Rico over a year ago. I was limited in my choice as my original washer fit under a counter in the kitchen and had to find one that a) was available here in Puerto Rico, b) was serviceable here in Puerto Rico, and c) was reasonably priced. While Maytag quality has been downgraded recently, I was still confident that this machine would live up to the tasks I had for it, so I made the purchase. It fit properly and came with all of the necessary equipment for proper installation. I was very pleased with the quickness of the setup process. Since the time between my old washer's demise and my new washer's delivery, I had stockpiled a lot of dirty clothes. So, upon setup, I broke her in quite quickly and hard. The digital motherboard sounds like a video game with lots of sounds and lights. That worries me because these computer circuits tend to fry. The more bells and whistles the thing has, the better the chances of it breaking in the future. I cross my fingers that nothing will go wrong. I was immediately impressed with how much capacity the washer could hold. For the space it used in my condo, the capacity was amazing to me. My sheets and jeans were well washed, but had plenty of room to move around. The detergent dispenser was easy to use, with separate detergent, fabric softener, and bleach dispensers. After the wash cycle is complete, the dispenser does end up holding some water. This is normal, but I always make it a point when I empty the washer of my clothes to also empty the dispenser of any standing water. I don't want water to sit in the machine. That would only end up facilitating mold and mildew, and subsequently, odors in the machine. The washer was extremely quiet, except during the spin cycle. Even with the machine perfectly level, the spin cycle, when given the option to spin fast or even at medium speed, vibrates the machine intensely. I worry about the components in the machine vibrating apart or loose with such vibration. I did notice however that if the load is well balanced, the vibration was somewhat minimized, however sometimes, that is not in your control. I did my sheets and only my sheets and the thing vibrated uncontrollably. Then, during another wash cycle I was doing, with my whites and other durables, it didn't vibrate nearly as much. Not really sure how to equalize that. The rinse cycle is adequate, although some soap does collect under the glass bowl that makes up the door window. I believe this is normal for most front loaders. The system actually gives you a choice for an additional rinse cycle. If you have heavily soiled clothes with a lot of detergent being used, this is a handy feature. One thing that is good about the spin cycle is the fact that it is super fast. That means that your clothes are well drained, allowing for faster clothes drying either on a line (best for the environment and your electric bill, folks) or in the clothes dryer. I am quite satisfied with this machine, however I feel top loaders are much more durable and cheaper. While it is true that front loaders use less water, the overall cost of a front loader with possible maintenance and the initial cost, I think are higher. The only reason why I purchased this product was because I was limited in my choices due to the design of my kitchen. Under normal circumstances, I would not have purchased this product. However, for what it is worth, I feel that the machine is adequate and satisfactorily does the job. I am just afraid, however that the machine is not durable enough thanks to its compact design coupled with such a severe spin cycle that vibrates way too much, to allow the product to effectively last for years and years. Top loaders, however, do not have this problem. I had a top loader that lasted in our family for 22 years. I would be surprised if this machine lasts for 10.

Better than going to the laundromat - barely
1 Star Review   By kect on Home Depot - Jun 16, 2008

I purchased this washer and the compact dryer a couple of months ago. A normal wash cycle is 63 minutes, and if you set it for the maximum spin to try to cut down on dryer time, the walls and floor in the adjoining rooms shake. It was checked to make sure it's level, and it is. As another reviewer said, there's no way the capacity is as much as is advertised. Don't leave something on the top of the washer if you don't want it on the floor when the washer starts spinning. I'm really disappointed but because of space issues I'm stuck with it.

Will Never buy another Maytag
1 Star Review   By member maytagsmells - Apr 27, 2008

Weakness: Smells and uses a large amount of electricity.

3 months after my purchase of a Maytag Neptune from Cluett Appliances in Ware it started to smell. I immediately called Cluet and they told me they haven't had any problems but said I would need to do regular maintenance on the machine by using dishwasher soap and bleach with hot water. 2 months go by and my whole bathroom smells I call again. This time I found out that the Neptune machines have a recall. Cluett will not help my out because as the owner put it (What do you want me to do bring it back to my store and put it in my basement?) So much for customer service. Of course even with the recall Cluett was still continueing to sell the same model to other people without notifying them. I then had to contact a Maytag repair man. With no help and still a lot of smell the only option was to fill out paperwork in their lawsuit. I never received any notification, any rebate or refund and no way of contacting them directly. I still have that terrible machine. If I don't take the clothes out immediately they smell as well. I hate it and at this time can not afford to do anything about it. I will never never buy another Maytag nor will I ever buy anything at Cluett's in Ware. MA. Also I am questioning the length of time that my Maytag has to run. On a regular cycle it is about 74 minutes. That can't be saving me any energy???

1.5 years and already stopped working
1 Star Review   By member nancywt - Apr 18, 2008

Strengths: small. cute.

Weakness: Doesn't work after just 1.5 years of use. Slow.Noisy

I called Sears who had sold this to me. Sorry, no more warranty. They tried to convince me to pay them to come fix it. The phrase they used was "tried and true". I said, tried yes, not so true (to me anyway.)It is hard for me to imagine paying them more money for something they sold me which now does not work. I am now looking to see if this is one of the Maytags they were recalling before I fix it. After reading all the terrible reviews I am wondering if I should cut my losses and get another brand without spending hundreds on repairmen. The last machine we had was a little (we have a small space) old used machine which lasted years and years, even up until we had it replaced. Poor little guy. We should have kept him!

Nothing But Trouble!!!
1 Star Review   By member NeverBuyMaytag - Feb 15, 2008

Strengths: It doesn't tip over. The white color, is white. It doesn't, or hasn't caught on fire yet.

Weakness: Maytag Support and Workmanship suck. Electronic control is flighty.

Doesn't clean clothes, stops in mid cycle, leaving clothes soaking in water. Flighty operation. Door hinge system is built so poorly it breaks, cracking the outer hood and dangling off hinge. Maytag sucks. Maytag must be on it's way to oblivion, good riddance. Sorry to all the workers that will soon lose their jobs ;(

Great investment
5 Star Review   By MattBoston on Home Depot - Jan 3, 2008

I have had this washer for 5 months now and it works like a champ. Very easy to operate and it's a great washer with low use of water. Clothes usually are almost dry after the wash. Cleans great and pretty large load capacity. Highly recommend this product!

Great Washer for the price
5 Star Review   By lisasmommy on Home Depot - Aug 9, 2007

I have used this washer for the last couple of years; for a family of four doing at least one to two loads daily. I love the large capacity and how well everything gets clean. With using less softner and laundry soap this is definitely an excellent value for the money.

I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy
1 Star Review   By member kelkel1030 - May 9, 2007

Strengths: When it works, it washes your clothes. "When" it works.

Weakness: Breaks down ALL the time. The Maytag repair people don't show up 1/2 the time after you've already stayed at home waiting. Expect to pay at least $137 a visit to fish a nickel or bobby pin out.

I posted a reply to "Steve" in Oregon already. Just wanted to put a formal review in with ONE star...if they had less than one star I would've chosen it. Terrible, terrible product. I'm running out of money, time and patience. I have plenty of dirty clothes though.

Best we've had yet
5 Star Review   By meandher on Home Depot - Jan 21, 2007

We purchased this washer a few months ago. We have a huge load to wash daily due to Family size and this machine clearly washes a large load thouroughly! It spins them extra dry and has really cut down on drying time! I would reccommend this washer and have to everyone I hear that is looking for one. We are very happy; thrilled with the product and it's capacity! If you want l;arge loads washed clean and save on electricity give it a whirl!

Money well spent!
5 Star Review   By Esselle on Home Depot - Sep 17, 2006

Living in relatively small quarters and specifically wanting a front loader, I did quite a bit of searching before settling on this machine. It takes up little space, is water and energy effiicient, and the capacity is perfect for a two-person household. I definitely recommend this product.

good luck if it breaks
1 Star Review   By member steveg2 - Sep 8, 2006

Strengths: Nice size for a condo and I was happy with how it cleaned.

Weakness: Pocket change can stop it. Maytag service.

Our machine, purchased from the Home Depot, went into service early Feb of 2005. In Jan or 2006 the machine would not drain so we called Maytag service. Unfortunately since we had purchased the machine in Dec of 2004 we had to pay for the visit. Nothing was found but the machine magically started to work. 1-2 loads later the problem reoccurred and we once again called for service. This time a nickel was found in the pump, he had no idea how he missed it the first time but said it was common for that machine to suck up change. We then had to spend considerable time on the phone so that we would not be charged for the follow-up visit. End of May 2006. Once again the machine won't drain. We call service and he can't figure anything out but it seems to work after he takes it apart and puts it back together. We have to pay for the service visit. Very next load same problem. Service comes back and the control board goes out and they will need to replace. New board is installed (luckily parts were still under warranty) he leaves. Next wash same problem. Next visit they want to replace the pump. Pump is installed but he punctures the house. Hose is replaced but machine has same problem. They test the power, they call the factory technical support, they replace more parts. The only difference is that now after each visit they tell us to call their technical support and try to get the machine replaced because they have no idea. Mid August 2006. Going on month 3 they decide to send a factory tech who wants $137 for the visit. After 45 minutes on the phone they agree that maybe we don't need to pay since the machine hasn't worked after any of their prior 6-7 visits. Another pump is replaced and the machine again fails on the first load. Schedule yet another visit with promises to replace the same parts that have been previously replaced. Sept 8 - Factory tech leaves and machine fails during first load. Not having the stomach to enter into month 4 of this battle I decide to purchase a new non-Maytag machine. I wish someone had told me a similar story prior to losing a 1/2 day of work every other week for 3 months, not to mention the time spent at the laundry mat. Maybe this machine is their only lemon, but the inept service was too much. Service is not shoulder shrugs and suggestions that we try to convince their own technical service into replacing the machine since all they could do was reorder the same parts and come back every 10 days. Hours spent on the phone, finally getting to the top of corp support (or at least told that) only to have them be completely unresponsive and tell me that I can just call them if the next visit doesn't fix it. The response to what happens if it doesn't work this time, "I don't know". I'm venting so hopefully you make a better buying decision than I did and you won't be in the same situation in a year.

Great Washer
5 Star Review   Home Depot

This wash machine is perfect for a one-person, maybe two person house hold. The bigger washing machines are just too big, this size is just perfect. I was already familiar with this type of washing machine, and it meets and exceeds my expectations - easy to use, great results, I am just thrilled.

Not again
2 Star Review   By member ckijora - Oct 12, 2005

Strengths: Small size

Weakness: Getting clothes clean, reliability, load size.

My clothes do not come out very clean and the load size is very small even for just two adults we run a lot of loads and the matching drier is VERY slow. Less than a year in and the pump is broken. The drier is even more poorly made.
