Best Shop Vac
5 Star Review   By motomanmel on Home Depot - Jun 18, 2013

This is the best Shop Vac i have every used. I own 2 of them. One is at home and one is at my shop. I have a CNC factory and when we purchased a new CNC machine last month we needed to wait for the chip conveyer. Took 6 weeks to get to me so we needed a way to remove the chips fast. This Shop Vac did the job in a few seconds. pulled aluminum chips and cast iron chips with no problems. I an sold on this product... PS we just got out chip conveyer and im still using the shop vac to clean up from aluminum to Cast iron....

I will never buy again.
2 Star Review   By Jkerr on Home Depot - Apr 30, 2013

Well, now I'm very angry. Owned a Craftsman We/Dry vac for 10 years. No problems, eventually gave it away. Owned a Ace brand shop vac for 10 years. No problems, eventually gave it away. Both of these places would have replaced the item no questions asked should I ever have had a problem. Bought a top of the line RIGID Wet/Dry vac. Within 2 years motor implodes and shoots metal out the blower side of the unit. Note that RIGID Wet/Dry Vacuums are the store brand of Home Depot. Warranty? Only if I ship the head at my own expense to them to check. If they decide it is a warranty related item they will eventually send me a new head. I'm mid way through a remodel on my master bathroom. Do I have the time to wait for this bull? No. I will never buy a RIGID product again. I will never recommend their product to the thousands of car folks and DIY folks that I interact with on an annual basis. I *will* put in my Websites recommendations not to buy the product. I will also never buy a tool from Home Depot again. Heck, even Harbor Freight has a better warranty program. And, it appears, that I will be going out and buying either an Ace or a Craftsman brand Wet/Dry Vac this afternoon so that I can finish my Master Bathroom.

I love this Vacuum
5 Star Review   By FairOaksDreamer on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

My backyard is all hardscape ringed with tall trees, big potted plants, bushes, and a swimming pool. I use this to vacuum the leaves and small branches that fall in the yard, it is much quicker than using a blower and picking them up afterwards. I also have drainage issues in the yard, and when I pressure wash or use any water to clean the hardscape, the water has to be vacuumed up. My old craftsman vac was too hard to use. It was heavy and I had to lift it to empty the water. This has a drain plug, which is ingenious, and I ordered the pump assembly. This enables me to connect a garden hose and pump the water uphill to the street to drain it. Voila! Problem solved for a 4'11" female. This is so easy to maneuver, and the extra components fit in the nifty attached bag. This is a winner, worth every penny.

I recieved this vacuum I had bought to fit in the 20" by 20" space of my old Sho Vac that burned out after 25 years. The Specs say 19.8" by 19.8". However the assembled dimensions are 22" wide by 27" deep with the hose sticking out 9" before it turns making it 36" deep. Too bad I have to take it back. Looks like a nice vacuum but too big for my shop.

5 Star Review   By Righty on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013

Very pleased with this Ridgid stainless vac. It arrived fast and just in time for a major drywall project (new house). It was easy to put together, however I will let you in on a time saving tip. Mounting the handle can be tricky as other reviews have stated and I found it to be true. The sharp ends of the handle will dig into the plastic handle mounting brackets. These brackets (2) are held in place by two little screws located on the inside of the vac. I recommend taking these screws out and the brackets off of the vac and then inserting the handle to it's locking position. Then re-insert the screws into the brackets as you put them back on with the handle as a one piece unit. I've been using this vac a lot and find it to do a great job. It is quieter than my old Craftsman vac and I think it has more power too. The stock hose is not the best because it is rather stiff and not long enough for me. I will probably upgrade to the pro hose when I get this house done.

excellent power
5 Star Review   By Terry on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013

Quiet and powerful. It actually lifted the carpet off the floor. Picked up large pieces of flooring material when redoing a floor. Best value, less than a 1/3 the cost of units with less power.

Powerful suction and quiet operation.
5 Star Review   By JD405 on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2013

This is the best shop vac I've ever owned or used for that matter. It runs a lot quieter than most and has plenty of power too accomplish the task at hand. The optional filter bags are great when vacuuming up fine particles such as drywall dust. The only negative that I experienced is the stiff 7' hose that comes with the vac. If you're going to speed the money for this type shop vac, I recommend purchasing the 10' pro hose also.

excellent suction and sometimes to much
4 Star Review   By thedoctor on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2012

The larger floor wand and also small one should have a bar across them to hold them away from the floor as the suction will hold them to the floor unless you can remember to hold them at an angle to the floor, It is useless on carpet the way it is. But over all I am happy with the product and just mentioning in hopes the company will read and make an adjustment in the wands.

Excellent shop vac
4 Star Review   By barndude on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2012

Has plenty of power and is quietest shop vac I've used. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because attachments being press on causes them to end up either stuck on too tight so you can barely remove them or too loose and falling off.

Just flat out tough
5 Star Review   By coaltrain on Home Depot - Aug 12, 2012

I bought this vacuum new about 6 years ago, this thing is unreal, its pulled out roughly 200+ gallons of water out of basements, all my remodeling projects indoors and out, wish i could count how many hundreds of hours mine has on it. its definately built for contractors: stainless, high capacity, big motor, big rear wheel that dont fall off, push handle, bag compartment to throw all the attachments and whatever else ends up in there dirt, dust, water, etc. overall best vac ive ever owned, homedepot stocks all the attachments for them so you dont have to go through the painstaking process of ordering parts.

So, So Good. Seems Like Good Quality Vac
5 Star Review   By CleanWFPK on Home Depot - Aug 1, 2012

I was looking for four important features: suction, stainless steel, drainage hole and capacity. The positive reviews convinced me to buy. The item was shipped out very quickly. I had one problem with assembly – installation of the handle (One side was bent and wouldn't go in properly). That problem was resolved when I called the Rigid customer service line. They shipped another handle quickly. I have only used the vac once since I received it and only as a dry vac. So far, the suction is excellent and it is very easy to maneuver. It moves better than my old vac which was mounted on its wheels in such a way that it kept coming off the track. The manner in which these wheels fit appears to be more stable.

Awesome performance after 6 years
5 Star Review   By TrimCarpenter on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2012

We are in the hardwood flooring and custom millwork business, 6 years ago we had purchased from The Home Depot one of these Rigid 6.5 hp vacuums to see how it would perform in a commercial heavy use environment i.e. jobsite cleanup – today it is still in use and is our main go-to tool. Because of the solid reliability and performance we now have eight of these vacuums on our trucks. We use these vacuums on a daily basis averaging 30-50 hours of hard use during the week and all of them have performed flawlessly. We have tried several others i.e. Shop-Vac and Sears and they lacked the cleaning performance and ruggedness that we require. Most of our carpenters have purchased this exact vacuum for their personal use. Our only complaint is that the open top accessory bag mounted on the handle turns into a huge dust/garbage/catch-all collector and as someone else noted that it should have a closable lid to keep the accessories in and the dust and debris out. Also, if it had power cord wrap holders mounted on the handle would be a plus. The wrap system around the motor cover is somewhat lacking. We have to load and unload our tools everyday and every little thing really helps. I have read reviews of people complaining on how the vacuum does not perform well i.e. has low suction performance. The main performance issue that we experience is that paper cartridges seem to plug up quickly and significantly hinder vacuum performance even though the canister is ¼ full. If you are NOT using the vacuum in wet conditions I highly recommend replacing the paper filter cartridge with the Rigid brand 16 gallon vacuum bag. You will find that when using the vacuum bag the suction remains strong and constant throughout use even after hours of heavy drywall dust collection. We have tried the off brand bags and had very poor results. Swapping out the paper filter for a bag filter is one of the best vacuum performance tricks in our trade.

Amazingly easy to clean- retractable handle a nice touch
5 Star Review   By Champion on Home Depot - Mar 27, 2012

Excellent quality- a simple wash out of the cannister with a garden hose makes clean up fast. Drywall doesn't stick to the inside like a plastic canister. I would like to see a two button catch for the handle so that it doesn't drop down too far and touch the rear wheels. Overall would highly recommend to any contractors or homeowners.

product net expectations
4 Star Review   By bfblack on Home Depot - Feb 13, 2012

I needed a new shop vac as the hose on the old one was cracked and covered with duct tape. Old hose could not be removed so new vac was required. Product arrived in a timely manner, opened box and could see broken piece of plastic in bottom of box. Customer service said 7-10 days for replacement part to arrive and that was about right. Assembly took about 1 hour. There were issues with getting metal handle through plastic housing because of undesirable lip left on inside diameter of plastic from molding process. The solution required sandpaper and a round file. Assembly instructions were ok. The 1/2" cap nut was somewhat difficult to install; hard to hold it in place while you pound on it. I ran a comparison test between old and new shop vac using shaving from my jointer. The new (Rigid) vac took about 40% longer time for same volume of chips but was much quieter.

Great vac
5 Star Review   By plainclothesfireman on Home Depot - Jan 24, 2012

Ridgids 16 gallon vac is the easiest to pull around by the hose and attachment storage is handy. The best I've found to roll across the yard from the shop to the garage, or across air hoses and extension cords. Only wish it had a smooth interior hose. I spend some amount of time clearing debris that gets stuck, even with optional 12ft. hose. Over all think this is the best one I've used.

great vac
5 Star Review   By ausitn on Home Depot - Jan 1, 2012

I bought this mainly for woodworking to help with dust control. All I can say is wow! I had this hooked up to my DeWalt planer which puts out a ton of dust and it sucked it all up until the drum was full. Only used it one day but very satisfied with the purchase. Better than the Harbor Freight dc system I used previously. They also found a way to make a shp vac look sexy. Works great and looks good in the garage.

Good Product
5 Star Review   By Rec21 on Home Depot - Nov 28, 2011

This replaced a late 1950's Sears dry vacuum that is still going strong, however, I needed the wet vac option and needed better filtering. We live in a Jeffrey pine forest and the early summer pollen is so heavy in some years that the driveway turns yellow and after 38 years in this type of forest we have both developed allergies to it. I purchased the 5 step filter and will be trying it out next summer. The 3 step filter does much better than the cloth sack on the old Sears vacuum to say the least. No haze in the shop like the older vacuum when cleaning up fine sawdust from my disc sander. Does a great job vacuuming cars as well. I gave it a good rating for suction because it always seems like you can use more, enough to pick up a bowling ball! Actually it doesn't seem to have enough suction to get a good flow through me tine detailing attachments that I use in crevices in the cars and for cleaning the insides of electronic devices. Then maybe its the 1/4" diameter of the detailing tools that require two reducers just to attach to the hose. Otherwise the suction is very good for all other uses. This vacuum weighs less than the old Sears even though that vacuum had a very heavy cardboard or fine particle board tank. The noise is considerably less as well. Instead of a loud, high frequency whine the noise Rigid puts out has less volume and none of the whine the older vacuum did. It is less noisy than most shop vacs I hear on a regular basis, of which many have that high frequency whine even though they are fairly new models. I purchase the model with the stainless steel drum as I'm thinking it will be more durable over the long run. After all it needs to last as long as the Sears, which my dad bought when he was 15 years younger than I am now! With some of the smelly stuff I have to vacuum up at times I think it will be less prone to absorbing odors. It will probably be easier to clean when oily products need to be cleaned up. Someone mentioned that they would like to have this vacuum equipped with castors on all four corners as it would be more maneuverable. I find the larger rear wheels to be much more convenient than the small castors on all four. You can lean it back by the large handle and move it quickly around the shop, and more importantly, the driveway when cleaning cars. It used to take forever to roll the old vacuum around the shop and the small castors caught up on little pieces of debris like twigs and gravel on the asphalt driveway. When I pull the hose into a car enough to pull the vacuum closer to the car it follows with very little effort. The large wheels keep the vacuum in place better than the old four castor models I've used. These last two statements appear to conflict but this is what I've found through use. The handle mounted storage bag saves me a lot of steps to where I used to have attachments hung on a tool rack. The only problem I've experienced is one of the plastic tabs for power cord storage broke off when I bumped the top portion of the vacuum (the motor unit and lid) when I set it on top of the drum after cleaning the filter. The cord scan still be rolled around the top, but metal tabs would have prevented this. Even if they are made of plastic the tabs could be longer and wider to roll the cord easier. All in all, a good purchase for me. I did so after a lot of research before buying this unit. I look forward to using it for 2-3 decades, after which I will be 90 and I may wear out before it does!

4 Star Review   By pfromal on Home Depot - Nov 7, 2011

very nice product - has every accessory you could want. adequate as a blower - GREAT as a w/d vac. garden hose drain attachment is wonderful for draining/cleaning our little pond. wish the front rollers were a litle sturdier. not sure if the extra dollars for stainless are justified. also, how about putting a zipper on the storage bag so accessories won't flop out if unit is tilted...

4 Star Review   By Doug7856 on Home Depot - Oct 29, 2011

I'm pleased with the suction of the unit, but the wheels are cheap and fall off. A shame the manufacturer cut corners because its a pain as you pull along the unit and the wheels fall off... I recommend with the understanding that the wheel design is poor.

excellent product, does everything it said it would and more
5 Star Review   By none on Home Depot - Oct 25, 2011

Before purchasing this wet/dry vac I read all the reviews about it and they were all positive and they were also all correct. It's an excellent vac. I made a plastic extension for it so I could clean out my rain gutters without having to get up on a ladder and it worked beautifully with no clogging. I have many trees around my house so the gutters need cleaning regularly, a job I used to dislike immensely, but not any more. The only thing I would change is the length of the suction hose that comes with the vac, it could be about another 2 feet longer but it is adequate as it is. All in all, works great, excellent suction, a well made product well worth the money.

This product is wonderful, and has great features
5 Star Review   By fostershields on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

I had been working with a small, not strong shop vac for very long. This new Rigid product is easy to put together, works very well, has great suction, and I have used it to blow up an inflatable boat. Great product. Solid, sturdy, strong, rolls really well, stays clean, has a good basket to hold parts. I love it.

Great Vacumn
5 Star Review   By Nette on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2011

This vacuum is large and a bit heavy but you don't need to lift it and it moves easily over door ways, ect. Boy does it do a good job on cleaning up. It has a low noise level while vacuum too. I expected it to be much louder because of it's size. The attachments are all with the vacuum & the electric cord is longer than most! The handles make all the difference in maneuvering around with it.

Good value, good machine.
5 Star Review   By Kdelbox on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2011

This is an excellent vacuum. Well built with plenty of power and storage capacity. The only negative I have found is the hose is too short. I recommend getting the hose extension kit.

I wanted a larger vac to replace the one I had. I didn't expect such a quiet vac. This is an excellent shop vac.

Awesome RIDGID Vac!
5 Star Review   By ToddA on Home Depot - Jun 14, 2011

I have always had a great experience with RIDGID products. They are the only power tools I buy. This RIDGID vac replaced a Craftsman that had issues, and I can tell you it was the best decision I could have made for a new vac. I have had an older RIDGID vac from 12 years ago, and they are still excellent quality. I love the features, power, and durability of this model. It is also very quiet compared to other vacs.

Great deal for a great machine.
5 Star Review   By jimdbrow on Home Depot - May 29, 2011

This shop vac is the best I have ever had. I like that I can have the whole thing right there. It is great when you have to clean trash out of your vehicle or whatever you are cleaning and have something to put the trash in while you are working. The suction power is great and it has a pretty go selection of parts. If I need another one, I will definately get me another one just like this one.

What's not to like?
5 Star Review   By DPrice on Home Depot - May 4, 2011

This machine has tons of suction. I haven't had the occasion to use it as a wet vac yet, but I can tell you from the design of this machine it would be very easy to use. The drain is right at the bottom of the vacuum tub eliminating the need to lift or tilt anything. The cord wraps around a handle top on the motor housing for storage and stays in place thanks to two tabs on either side of the handle. The snap grip on the cord plug allows you to attach it to the cord. Cord storage problem solved! The tool storage bag attaches to the upright handle of the vacuum. You never have to guess where your attachments are. There are two snap latches that secure the motor housing to the vacuum tub. They have a positive snap action so you know when they are secure. This machine attaches easily to my shop saw and orbital sander and just gobbles up the the sawdust. You can get a HEPA style filter that will trap 99.9% of particles or you can use the fine particle filter like I do. The fine particle filter does an excellent of keeping the dust down when I use it with the saw or sander. The mobility of the vacuum is good although I would have preferred casters all around instead of the two straight wheels on the rear. Buy this vacuum. You will be pleased. I haven't found any thing it can't pick up. Like I said this vac has tons of suction.

Very easy to install. Recomend that your hold the axle rod in the metal keeper on the concrete and hammer in then put both wheel on the shaft in the correct postion with the two plastic holder that snap on the vacum canister, then hammer on the second axle metal keeper. Have not turned on the vacum yet, but iam sure that it is verry good.

Best One they have
4 Star Review   By Frankey on Home Depot - May 4, 2011

Rigid's best wet and dry vac. Powerful and fast. Only thing I wished they had was 4 of the larger wheels. When full of water smaller wheels get stuck in larger cracks in the floor. Worth the money.

Awesome!
5 Star Review   By junior40 on Home Depot - May 2, 2011

I ordered (2) of these units in March 2011. The shipment was right on time and the boxes came in undamaged. The vacs come with alot of goodies!!! I am using the vacs specifically for sweeping corn and soybeans, and so far, they have been phenominal. The 6.5hp motor is big enough to still have great suction for a 20' hose. Overall, the items were shipped in perfect condition, I recevied more than i expected and the vacs have great suction power!!!

This thing rocks err uhh sucks :)
5 Star Review   By TJP4406 on Home Depot - Nov 25, 2010

I've been through several shop vacs and this one sets a standard. I strongly reccommend getting the filter bags and getting rid of the filter. RIDGID Dust Collection Bag Model # VF3502 Internet # 100390230 Store SKU # 515888 After 9 months this unit has the original bag in it and has yet to be changed. It is getting a bit heavy though :) Still pulling as good as day one Puts a smile on my face everytime I use it

Too much engineering and marketing, not enuff tech
4 Star Review   By PapaRoy on Home Depot - Aug 17, 2009

This vac is everything I expected from Ridgid, and a little more -- light, very powerful, and well appointed with tool storage capabilities. The only weakness I see is the plastic undercarriage, and the clamping system that secures it to the stainless steel drum. Kinda chicken, i.e. cheep, cheep, cheep.... Why ruin a great tool with such an obvious handicap?

Great Vac
5 Star Review   By Thehawk on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2009

I've owned many shop vacs and this by far is the best. Lot of power and suction. The storage is handy and easy to use. Rolls around very easy so if you need a shop vac this is a good one.

Could be better
4 Star Review   By Plasma on Home Depot - Jun 20, 2009

A good quality vacuum which can be made better. It is powerfull and less noisy than my previous vac. I love the filter indicator. I do woodworking and use it for dust collection. The indicator is extremely helpfull because filter clogs fast and it can overload the motor. Will benefit from a better hose. The supplied one is to stiff and makes vacuuming a chalenge. Also the big rear weels are just a marketing trick. Vac can benefit from 4 swivel weels instead of the rear none swivel ones. It will be a lot easier to move the vac. My old Shop-Vac was following me around the garage just by pulling the hose. One should know vac is heavy. The supplied filter is low quality. Because of that I am rating it 4 stars.

Kitchen
5 Star Review   By loggiver on Home Depot - May 7, 2009

i love this because when i flood the dish sink in my commercial kitchen i just suck up the water with the squeegee attachment and i am done. i no longer have to sweep any thing i just suck it and mop. with the wrong attachment in your car it will pull the carpet up. every one around that knows i have it asks to barrow it but no one is smart enough to us the handy cord keeper and hose keeper. i love this and wish i had one at home also beause my wife also is always asking me to bring it home.

A real shop vacuum
5 Star Review   By RiderJohn on Home Depot - Apr 27, 2009

I've used an old Kirby vacuum as a shop vac for 20 years. It had some limitations but it worked. The one thing I hated about it was the noise. You can go deaf using a Kirby vacuum bought in 1980. I was apprehensive about the noise level of the new Ridgid. I was pleasantly surprised to find it is a bit quieter than the old Kirby and has none of the limitations plus it can suck up water messes too. I like the tool holder pouch and the ease with which it moves around on the wheels. I also like the numerous tool attachments that are available at Home Depot for the Ridgid wet/dry vacuum. Assembly was pretty easy although threading the screws for the wheel carriage requires a long philips screw driver and patience. The only negative I can name is that the stainless steel is magnetic. I always thought the way to check for stainless steel is put a magnet on it. If it doesn't stick it is stainless. An online search for the definition revealed the answer. If it has at least 10% chromium content it can be called stainless. So now I'm suspicious that this stainless steel tank will eventually rust as did the 'stainless steel' kitchen sink I had. Only time will tell. For now I think it looks like R2D2 and I'm tempted to put a vinyl label on it with that name.

A beast of a shop vac
5 Star Review   By ChristianD on Home Depot - Feb 25, 2009

I got a really good deal on this vac and really lucked out. I did not do any research but just knew that I needed one. I was amazed at the quality of this thing right out of the box. It has everything I need and is very powerful!!! I am a woodworker, and I use this vac for shop cleanup and dust collection. I have used it to clean out the car and clean up the garage flawlessly. The best feature of this vac to me is the blower. If you take the hose off the front and attach it to the back it blows air with a ton of force. I spent tons of time brushing and cleaning saw dust off of tools, but once i found the blower function it takes seconds to make them look brand new!! It comes with a LIFETIME warranty you dont even have to register for. This is the best wet dry vac you can buy and I definately recommend it to anyone, even if you dont need one!

NOTHING stands in its way
5 Star Review   By vacman on Home Depot - Jan 26, 2009

I have this vac & its the MOST powerful vac I've ever bought. It sucks up leaf piles (after blowing into a pile) better & faster than a rake. I always use liner bags (except 4 vacing leaves or wet P/U) & just toss out bag when its full. Also have car cleaning kit & does better job than my old shop vac & car wash vacs. Can't wait 2 use 4 wet P/U--maybe I'll shampoo car interiors or wash the floor--I bet it'll dry in minutes instead of hrs! Only problem is its loud (yet still powerful) so its worth every $ spent on this vac; better than the competitors' vacs. Hard 2 clog this vac even when picking up rocks or anything up to 2 1/2" so b careful what U vacuum b/c it eats dirt quickly.

Best Shop Vac Made
5 Star Review   By jaredaggie on Home Depot - Oct 19, 2008

This vac is hands down the best one made. I have used tons of different ones, and this thing is great. The stainless steel makes it very easy to clean the vac up after a messy job, and it polishes up like new with minimal effort. I was scared to buy such an expensive vac, because it didn't seem practical. But this is one purchase I dont regret at all. I recommend using this with the ridgid brand bags you can put inside the unit on dry jobs. It keeps the filter and inside of the vac in pristine shape. I use the bags all the time unless I'm cleaning up a wet job. I think I am going to buy my father one of these for christmas.
