I have wanted a Dyson for some time.
5 Star Review   By j47tonks on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

This vacuum is very handy and easy to use. I love the suction on this vacuum and the fact that it can be used on carpets as well as hard floors! I have not had a chance to use the extension tool for high places/or under furniture, but am pretty confident it will work equally well for me.

Not impressed!
1 Star Review   By LC1117 on Home Depot - May 13, 2013

I am sad to say I was very disappointed in the quality of this machine, and it will be going back to the store. Granted, I only used the machine for one day, but there were more than enough dealbreaker cons to warrant a return. Some observations from my try out: Suction: It seemed to pick up well, but I didn’t notice any more suction than my 8 year old Bissell has. Beater bar: You start the beater bar with a button located on the front of the vacuum. The only problem is, once you press it you can’t tell if it’s on because the beater is so quiet (which on one hand is nice), and the button does not stay depressed or light up. Also, as others have commented, this vacuum doesn’t leave vacuum marks on the carpet or do anything to make the pile stand up. If you’re like me and need to see the vacuum lines, this is not the machine for you. I finished vacuuming and while there was dirt in the canister to show for it, the carpet didn’t look fresh. Starting the vacuum: I found starting and reclining the machine to be awkward. Every upright vacuum I’ve ever had has an “on” switch and a foot pedal to depress which reclines the machine and allows you to start vacuuming. This machine does both functions through the on switch, so when you hit the “on” button, you also have to push down on the handle fairly hard (to the point I was worried I might break it – and I am a 5’1 110lb female with no upper body strength) to recline the upright part of the machine and start the wheels. The Ball: This is a nice feature, as it does allow you more mobility around corners instead of the usual back and forth motion. However, if you want to use this machine to vacuum stairs, forget about it. The ball makes the beater bar flop around when you pick it up (vs. a regular upright which has a better hinge), so you have to sort of hover the vacuum over the carpet. If you stand the vacuum too vertical, it will disengage the beater bar and shut the suction off. I don’t even want to think about how clumsy it would be to try to use the hose attachment on the stairs. Hose and attachments: This feature seemed fairly useless. There is a hard plastic extension on the end of the hose that makes it very difficult to use for anything other than reaching up high (it would work for cleaning curtains and the ceiling I guess), but since I was looking to use it to get cat hair off my couch and vacuum crumbs under the cabinets and appliances, it’s pretty useless to me. That plastic piece is supposed to be detachable, but when I tried to take it off, I was afraid I might break it, so I gave up. Even if I did get it off, the hose is too short to stretch to anything anyway. Cord: I picked this machine because it has a 24ft cord, vs. other models with a 20ft. I couldn't get from one end of my living room to the other without switching outlets. For $500, if it's not going to generate it's own power, you should at least be able to get across the living room without unplugging. Canister: I actually thought the canister held a lot of dirt. I also liked that the canister has button to press that drops the debris out the bottom (instead of having to flip it upside down, which for me always seems to result in a plume of dust in my face). Assembly: Echoing other reviews, I was shocked assembly instructions came on an index card with only pictures (which were hard to make out)and no written directions! I figured it out without a lot of problem, but come on folks! I am sad to say I think people are buying these things on the name alone. I will be returning this machine and trying another Bissell Lift Off for less than half the price.

Very Good machine, just a few cons
4 Star Review   By nuget19 on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013

This Dyson lives up to its name when it comes to quality and versatility. We love how easy it moves around the house and it looks great too. The only few things i wish were better was more power and more attachments.

After a month of use I still like the vacuum
5 Star Review   By DC91849 on Home Depot - Jan 8, 2013

I was somewhat apprehensive about buying an expensive vacuum but this Dyson seems to be worth the money. I like how easy it is to switch from having the brushes on or off when vacuuming carpets and wood floors. The telescoping hose is great and it easily reaches the top step of the staircase. The canister is simple to release, empty, and replace.

Lovin' it!
5 Star Review   By Hellohun65 on Home Depot - Dec 28, 2012

Surprisingly slender and lightweight. I have used it nearly daily for the last month and love it. The maneuverability of the ball is awesome. It does take a bit to get used to its "kickstand." This vacuum sucks!

Dyson DC40 vs. Shark Rotator Pro Lift Away
5 Star Review   By Chopper on Home Depot - Dec 22, 2012

Both the Dyson and Shark are made of plastic. The plastic on the Shark seems a little cheap and non durable. The plastic flexes in certain spots. Both are well thought out and designed well from a user stand point. Both canisters can be emptied easily without a dusty mess. The Shark is heavier than the Dyson and feels heavier when vacuuming. The Dyson maneuvers better than the Shark. The Shark vacuums more quiet than the Dyson. The Dyson puts out less (almost none) vacuuming smell than the Shark. The vacuum test. The Dyson is very expensive and is suppose to be one of the best. I vacuumed a 30" x 40" sample test rug with medium thickness with the Shark first, then I went over the same rug with the Dyson. Both vacuum canisters were empty at the beginning of the test. The Dyson vacuumed the same rug right after vacuuming with the Shark and was able to pick up about 3 table spoons more dust. The same test was repeated again with the same results. Remember this is only a 30" x 40" small rug. But, the Dyson DC40 is over twice the price of the Shark. I was able to get the DC40 at $130 off on sale and it came with the small vacuum brush and other attachments. Note: The test rug did look clean after vacuuming with the Shark. Then again the Shark can go on sale and the price is more attractive.

Outstanding performance makes the price livable
5 Star Review   By MoneyPit on Home Depot - Dec 20, 2012

Within about 15 minutes of opening the box the machine was assembled (just click 5 pieces together per the very clear step diagram) and I was vacuuming a spare room that desperately needed it. At first the action was so smooth I thought I had it set wrong, but the unit self-levels to the floor and there is no setting... it works that well and is that effortless to work over a loose pile carpet. Yes it is a pricey product. I was lucky and got it at 20% off. Even at that its a substantial purchase. Nonetheless if it can make vacuuming this easy, its worth it in effort saved over the life of the unit.

Really outdoes itself cleaning both carpets and bare floors. Does an excellent job with pet hair. It's a more expensive product but cleans so well it's worth the price.

Amazing Efficient & Maneuverability Is Unmatched!
5 Star Review   By SemperKai on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2012

Love that it's lighter and much easier to maneuver.
5 Star Review   By pmedrjva607 on Home Depot - Dec 4, 2012

I like the bagless feature. I had just vacuumed my carpet the day before with my old vacuum and when I brought the Dyson home, vacuumed it again and filled the canister with dirt and dog hair. (My son's Golden had been visiting.) I just wish the power cord was a little longer.

Excellent Vacuum
5 Star Review   By Consumer on Home Depot - Oct 14, 2012

It was time for me to replace my vacuum, We heard a few things on the dyson so I thought I would go check it out. The store person was very knowledge about it, because he owned one. He had all good things to say. So we went with his recommendation. It has now been 4-5 months and I am totally impressed with this vacuum. I must admit I was not sure on the whole ball thing, But I am sold on this design. Everything is well designed from how it all comes apart to empting the canister. The cleaning power is good, it's light and easy to use. I am now a dyson fan. It is a little pricey but we were lucky, at the time we were looking it was on sale for $130 off.

Cleans well, Easy to move.
4 Star Review   By WillE on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

Cleans well, Easy to carry and move. It is nice that you don't have to change any parts between hard floor and carpet. Easy to empty. I worry about the plastic parts breaking over time maybe they won't. If you are a stickler for perfect vacuum marks on your carpet, you may be frustrated by the lines the ball leaves.

It's OK
4 Star Review   By Machita on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

I had heard a lot about Dyson products. My neighbor has one and she ranted and raved about it. My new Dyson replace a Hoover canister and I can't see the difference between them. Sorry, perhaps if the old vacuum is a very old model there would be a difference, but not if the machine is relatively modern

This is the Rolls Royce of vacuums!
5 Star Review   By DesertSnow on Home Depot - Jul 4, 2012

I love my new Dyson!!! I cannot believe how light it is, and the maneuverability. It is amazing. And the suction is great...I filled the canister in just one cleaning of my town-home. My only complaint isthat it is a little difficult to clean stairs with the attachment....I think I need to purchase some more tools to make that easier. Also, I had a little problem putting it together, but we looked on youtube and found a video that really helped. Sometimes you just need to see something done rather than read instructions and diagrams. But overall....I'm happy with my purchase and highly recommend it to others. Well worth the extra cost.
