So far, so great. This vacuum has been a really good value. Considering that vacuum cleaners -- even quite pricey ones -- seem to be semi-disposable appliances these days, I really didn't want to plunk down big bucks for a machine I might have to replace in another 2 years (that's how long my last two vacuums have lasted before either burning out (a small Hoover) or going into "snap a belt a week" mode (a Dirt Devil) to the point of uselessness.) I picked up this Bissell based on the reviews from CU, and it has been a wonderful surprise, even better than I expected. It's got a nice weight to it: not so heavy that you can't move it around, but sufficient heft to feel sturdy and solid. Beats my old Hoover hands-down at pet hair and dirt. I have two kids, a very shaggy dog (a Newfoundland), plus a cat, all of which makes for a pretty good vacuum cleaner test! I was shocked at what wound up in that cup the first time I ran this baby over the area rug in my living room vs. what my old vacuum managed to pick up. Yikes! Speaking of the cup, it's very easy to remove, dump out, and replace. My last vacuum was so bad I had to wear a particle mask to empty it (I'm an asthma sufferer, and the dinky, narrow little cup sent up clouds of dust upon being shaken upside-down vigorously enough to actually empty it. Not fun.) The Bissell's cup is generously sized, slides out easily, and empties cleanly into the trash with no fuss. An unexpected bonus is that it's much quieter than either of my last two vacuums. I mean, okay, it's a vacuum cleaner, so "quiet" is relative, but at least this Bissell doesn't have that high-pitched whine that some machines get. All in all, this is a nice, surprisingly substantial machine for the money. I'm very pleased.
