Excellent product...
5 Star Review   By JCook on Home Depot - Jun 15, 2013

I bought this unit to replace the Insikerator Badger model disposal that came with our home. So far it has proven to be an excellent purchase. It is ten times quieter than our original disposal. So quiet I was worried there was something wrong with it when I first turned it on. I had to put something in it to chew up just to make sure. Very easy to install. Took about 30 to 45 minutes. Only took that long because I had to cut about an inch and a half off the pvc drain tube to account for its larger size. And don't forget to punch out the plug for the dishwasher drain inlet before you install it. Very pleased with this product.

Very quiet and 'works fast'
5 Star Review   By ltrt on Home Depot - May 8, 2013

I have owned an insinkerator for more than 50 years. It has always been a great disposal. This one is no exception. It is very quiet and grinds the waste very quickly. I especially like the fact that the rubber baffle is removable for easy cleaning. I had the disposal installed by a plummer. It didn't take him any time at all to install it.

Quiet!!!
5 Star Review   By MomTested on Home Depot - May 7, 2013

We have only been using the disposal for a week but it works fine. It is extremely quiet. My only complaint is the rubber flange. The opening is so small that you have to push almost all foods through the opening. We are thinking this is a part of what makes it so quiet. It is not a deal breaker but I just wanted to mention it. My husband installed it. He said it wasn't too bad just a bit awkward because of the heavier weight of the disposal. The biggest thing we notice is the quiet operation.

Smooth installation, from the box to chopping up stuff in 40 minutes. It runs whisper quiet. It does not come with a power cord which could make for a second trip to the store if this is a brand new installation, but for replacement, no problem at all.

4 Star Review   By AmyJO on Home Depot - May 1, 2013

I was replacing an old Insinkerator disposal (builder model) and decided to replace it with a mildly upgraded unit. Being a DIY Woman, I found the directions were good and the unit easy to replace. Everything seemed to run fine after turning the power back on. The unit was quiet and I did not notice any shaking. I'll make my final decision after the first few uses. Install time for me was a little under an hour.

Good disposal

Disposal works better than expected. Certainly has more power than the one I had before and it's quieter to. I was hesitant to put bones in my old disposal, but this one handles it like a champ. I have no complaints.

Read this before installing!!!
5 Star Review   By Mkstev on Home Depot - Apr 29, 2013

This is an excellent disposer. However if you are installing it yourself, purchase a dishwasher connector kit. Some plumbers find the hose from the dishwasher is not the same diameter as the nipple on the disposer. In my case the hose was connected to a piece of PVC on the main drain with the correct nipple size of the hose. If you want the hose connected to the disposer, get this kit, #DWC-00. You may want to use a screw clamp instead of the spring clamp that comes with the kit. Makes this so much easier, and you will be sooo happy.

nothing quiet about it
2 Star Review   By justanothertexan on Home Depot - Apr 20, 2013

I thought that paying a lot would mean that this was less noisy than the other cheaper models. It turns out that I was wrong - this model is just as noisy as the cheap builder's model that it replaced. That was also an Insinkerator that dissolved after five years. Also, for this price, which is twice what other units run, put a stinking electrical cord on the thing - why do I need to pay an extra $12 for something that will be needed with every unit?

Glad the Cheaper One Wasn't In Stock
5 Star Review   By northwind on Home Depot - Mar 13, 2013

The lugs on our old Whirlaway garbage disposal had seized to the rotating plate a few years ago. This disposal was installed in the house when it was new in 1988. It still ran, but was starting to clog up more often and smell bad and after being in use for 25 years we thought it should finally be retired. When we got to the store we found out the cheaper model we wanted wasn't in stock and went ahead and bought this model instead. I was concerned with the much higher price, more the 2x the price of what we planned on buying, but the warranty made me feel a little bit better about it. The installation was easy once I got to the point of installing. It took me a quite a while to get the old one out and replace the air gap for the DW. I realized I was out of plumbers putty so I had to go buy some more. I also planned on re-using the cord from the old one but didn't have the metal cord clamp that screws into the disposal. Once it came time to finally install it only took about 5 minutes of actual work. This disposal is amazingly quiet! I can now run the disposal at night after doing dishes without worrying about waking up my daughter since you cannot even hear it outside the kitchen. This disposal also has a wider "mouth" that allows you to pull items out that have fallen in (unplug it before you do so!), with the old disposal I've had to use needle nose pliers to get items out that have fallen in. The baffle on this model should prevent silverware from falling in though, which was a common occurrence on our old disposal. The only annoyance was the fact that not only was the powercord not included (as stated clearly on the box), but neither was the powercord clamp that screws into the bottom of the disposal, a part I picked up at the local feedstore down the road for $.50.

Works Great, but I feel a little pricey
5 Star Review   By Will on Home Depot - Mar 5, 2013

Installation was easy, but unit is heavy to lift and mount. and it works well. Installed less then a month so don't know how long it will work. I find the item a little pricey.

Quiet, sturdy, easy to install
5 Star Review   By romjul on Home Depot - Feb 25, 2013

We bought this as a replacement. We chose this model based on the advertised sound insulation, the metal grinding chamber, and good reviews. We have had the unit about 2 months and really like it. It was relatively easy for my husband to install, and it is surprisingly quiet -- so much so that it took some getting used to. Make certain no hands -- especially childrens' hands -- are around when it is running. I also like it because it handles slippery stuff like onion skins without clogging, and small bones, such as chicken bones. We also liked the 4 year warranty but hope it lasts much longer!

quiet but you have to push everything in
2 Star Review   By DIYinATL on Home Depot - Feb 4, 2013

Replaced a previous insinkerator so the installation was pretty easy, my handyman had it installed in less than 30 minutes. This unit is powerful and quieter than my previous model but the flange is so rigid that you literally have to push all of the food down in with hand or other utensil. The previous Insinkerator worked better as the flange was soft enough that just water pressure would work the food through. It is definitely quieter but it is now harder to keep the sink clean and I have to wipe down the flange to remove the food that gets stuck. Frustrating!

Very quiet
4 Star Review   By plumberman on Home Depot - Jan 29, 2013

I was replacing a five year old disposer that was very loud. This model is so quiet that at first I wondered if it was working properly. Just as important it also grinds food waste fast and completely. I highly recommend this product.

Excellent replacement!
5 Star Review   By wd69em on Home Depot - Jan 26, 2013

I had an existing in-sink-erator badger model installed and it finally gave up the ghost. I have never dealt with replacing one of these and figured I'd be at it all day. After some quick research I decided on this model and talked to an associate at the store and was dismayed at how easy I was told it was going to be to replace. 30 minutes and my new QUIET sink disposal was grinding away!

Fantastic and So Quiet.
5 Star Review   By Glenn9225 on Home Depot - Jan 16, 2013

I had a house built in 1999 and found that the garbage diposer in my sink was loud and vibrated the sink and countertop. I had the builder reinstall it. I even tried reinstalling it myself also. Same problem. I chose to deal with it. Ok, so now 13 yrs later, day before Xmas eve, it finally broke, leaked and splattered on everything under the sink. I was so glad it did cause now i finally had a chance to get rid of it. I checked out online what disposers were available for my needs and price and chose this one after reading all of the reviews on the all the other disposers, including the one I replaced. I dont want to bad mouth the manufacturer of the one I had in there. Your Welcome GE. This disposer just stood out from them all. More power- went from 1/3 to 5/8 power and everything I needed was included in the box. Price for unit was acceptable. Did not need to purchase anything else for it. It does not come w/ a Wall Outlet Power Plug line if that is how your power supply is. That you have to get separately. Or, if your line is still in good conditition, use the one from the one your replacing. If your existing power supply comes through the wall, its very, very simple to install those wires to it. Install took about an hour 10 min - thats removing the old one, cleaning the sink flange of plumbers putty or just put their flange in there if its another brand, and just follow directions after that. YOU DO NEED PLUMBERS PUTTY FOR THEIR SINK FLANGE. This is my first disposer I had to totally replace and install a new one. So, so simple to install. What intrigued me the most is how most of the reviews said it was so quiet. Thier not kidding. The water turned on is louder than the disposer. You can just barely here the disposer hum while its on and while its shredding up anything you put into it. I am finally so happy to get rid of the old one and now have this one. My first house had an Insinkerator back in 1989 and it was quite and still working when I sold that house. I expect the same from this, but time will tell. Good luck all !!!! You will enjoy this product. I believe its the best out on the market.

Great product
5 Star Review   By TomH on Home Depot - Dec 30, 2012

I bought this to replace a 12 year-old Badger (interestingly enough, they still sell the exact same model). While the Badger was (and is) a perfectly acceptable disposer, it would sometimes get overwhelmed when faced with a large amount of pasta or potato peels, allowing them to pass through into the drain and causing a clog. I don't have this problem with the Evolution select. The two stage grinder virtually eliminates the possibility of unchopped food getting past it. Yes it is quiet and has a nice vibration-absorbing mount, but for a product I use for only a few minutes a day, those are not killer features. No, the absolute best feature is one that they don't advertise: A removable rubber baffle. Every disposer I've owned always got smelly, usually due to rotting foot on the bottom side of the baffle. The Evolution's baffle can be removed, rinsed off, and replaced to make sure it is clean on both sides. Genius! While they sell more powerful Evolution models, the 5/8 HP that this model has should be all you need. Indeed, I never found the 1/3 HP on my old Badger to be lacking for power. Installation is pretty much like any disposer: If you are not replacing the exact same model you had before, you likely will need to do some PVC work to get the drain to line up. And, as others mentioned, there is no power cord. I just reused the cord from my old unit. All in all, I highly recommend this unit.

Easy Install, Great Power, and Quiet!!!
5 Star Review   By Paddleboarder on Home Depot - Dec 30, 2012

After only 5 years our Old Badger 5 Disposer started leaking. After looking online, I found out that I wasn't the only one. After a little research and reading many reviews, I decided to go with the Evolution Select. I have been very impressed. It was easy to install. Complete removal of old disposer and install of new one was 30 minutes. You don't need a plumber or even a lot of know how, especially if you already have an "Insinkerator" brand. Just remove the dishwasher hose and the drain, and give the unit a twist to remove and switch out the power cord (you will need to save the old one or buy a new one). Then just twist the new unit on and connect the drains. This unit is powerful and almost silent. You have to remember you turned it on, because you can't hear it. I would recommend this product, you can't go wrong.

Installation Expectations
4 Star Review   By NastyNick on Home Depot - Dec 28, 2012

Beware that installation is just as time consuming as any other disposal if you don't have an existing insinkerator with similar hardware. This will include putting in a new drain flange so get some plumber's putty and also cutting some PVC pipe so make sure you have a hacksaw. It also does not come with a power cord, which is asenine so they conveniently have the insinkerator power cord for additional purchase. I removed the cord from my old unit and this worked just fine. After three hours of installation, the disposal is very powerful, quiet, and is an awesome unit.

Great unit, could not ask for more for the price
5 Star Review   By Bone62 on Home Depot - Dec 6, 2012

We elected to replace the Kitchen faucet which lead to replacing the sink and then, well why not replace the garbage disposal? The existing garbage disposal was a Badger 5 that had been in service for longer than 14 years. It still worked fine but the splash shield was worn and you could see into the rusted grind chamber, so I was looking for a unit with stainless steel grind chamber. The install was easy with the help of the car jack to slowly lift the unit into place made this a one man job. I love the color and the wife is happy that the unit is so quiet.

Great Product / Easy Installation
5 Star Review   By dmunn on Home Depot - Nov 30, 2012

Replaced a 15 year old Kitchenaid disposal with the EVO Select. The installation was easy; the step by step instructions that come with the product are spot on. Installation took about 2.5 hours. Also, the DIY video on the HomeDepot website is very helpful and provides good tips such as supporting the unit during installation. The EVO Select is quiet and compact. I am completely satisfied with this product.

This unit looks great, and it's soooo quiet! Is it working?
5 Star Review   By GKDPCF1 on Home Depot - Nov 1, 2012

I'm amazed at how quiet this unit is - I just hope it's working! When I used to run my old unit, the cats went running for cover. This unit is so quiet that it doesn't disturb anyone. The suction doesn't seem as good as the old unit, but the plumber assured me that the rubber will loosen up over time and drainage will therefore improve - apparently this is common with new units. Time will tell, I guess.

5 Star Review   By Coastalgal on Home Depot - Oct 27, 2012

After much research i decided to purchase the evolution select. I had it profrssionally installed and it didnt take long. As previously mentioned in another review, the sound of the water is louder than the disposal!! I have been using it for a month now and i still marvel over its power and quietness. Also deciding factors of all stainless grinding chamber and blades were important to me for durability/longterm use.

Quiet and Powerful
5 Star Review   By ljthe2nd on Home Depot - Sep 13, 2012

This is one of the few purchases lately that have really pleased me. First lets start out with the installation. This was replacing an existing insinkerator so the installation for me was a breeze, in fact it took me longer to clean out the cupboard to be able to get in there and work than it did to remove the old disposal and install the new one. (Because the insinkerator flange was already installed, all I had to do was disconnect the drain, the dishwasher drain, and the electrical cord, and then just untwist the whole thing from the flange. Then I just had to reverse that process. The whole removal and install maybe took me 15-20 minutes. Now on to the performance. First let me say this thing is very quiet, you can carry on a normal conversation with this disposal running, if you're more than about 10-15 feet away you wouldn't know it was running. As for the performance, this is very powerful. Nothing I have put in there has been a problem. The other day I had a strip steak for dinner and there was a line of very tough gristle along one side, it was so tough it was difficult to cut with a very sharp knife. Now normally I don't put meat into the disposal but I thought I would try to see if this disposal would chew up this gristle (I really thought I was going to have to retrieve it from within and throw it away) but it just chewed it up and down the drain it went. Overall I would highly recommend this disposal. For the price it is very quiet and powerful.

5 Star Review   By WPowell on Home Depot - Sep 8, 2012

Our 15 year old Badger 5 gave up over the Labor Day weekend so I decided to purchase this unit and attempt to install it myself to save some money. The most difficult step was removing the old unit as it had become very corroded due to a leak around the mounting hardware, which I replaced using the new collar included with the new unit. Be sure to purchase some plumbers putty if you need to take this step. I was also shocked to find that the plumber I hired to install the original disposer did not use an electrical strain relief part and the cable was badly worn. Fortunately there was enough slack in the cable to allow me to cut off the damaged part, you may also need to purchase the strain relief fitting. My only other problem was that I was not strong enough to hold up and align the new disposer while turning the attachment ring to lock it in place. I solved this problem by placing a wood block under the disposer and used my cars screw type jack to lift and align the unit in the mounting collar. This disposer is very quiet and the installation instructions are straight forward and easy to understand.

Self Install - Surprising Quality
5 Star Review   By CRinGA on Home Depot - Aug 25, 2012

Upon buying a new home, I discovered that I had inherited a severely neglected disposal unit. I suspect that the device was installed when the home was built (2006) and had been installed improperly at that time. It was missing the three tightening screws on the mount collar, so it had been leaking and rusting from pretty much every possible point. (Don't forget to use plumber's putty when installing!) The Insinkerator Evolution Select 5/8 HP disposer was in the middle of the price range for available models. At the store, I could not determine if it included a Quick Lock mount (which it does) so I purchased one. Note: The disposal does include a Quick Lock mount, gasket, and stopper. Note: The disposal does NOT include a power cable, or strain relief parts. If you need one you must purchase an optional cable kit. In my case, power was supplied from the wall / switch so the cable kit was not needed. However, since ALL disposals must be powered, I recommend to Insinkerator that they include the strain relief parts with the disposal. Installation: A breeze. I had a much harder time removing the old rust-siezed mount. Almost all necessary parts are supplied. I had to re-use a PVC fitting from the old pipe, but I elected to use the new (provided) pipe and cut it to size. I purchased the recommended plumber's putty, and had no issues following directions. For electrical, I used some wire connectors I had available. Noise: What Noise? There might be a problem if you do food prep in a library. The unit is specifically designed to reduce vibration. Sure you can tell it's running, which is important for not losing a spoon or perhaps a finger. There are models that are quieter, but after using this I can't see a reason to upgrade. Appearance: It is maroon. Yep, just like on the package. Every time you reach under the sink for a cleaner, you'll probably find yourself admiring it. It also has a large interior chamber for relatively easy cleaning. Made in USA! I'm glad to see that. Five stars; I didn't see anything that I felt was poor quality.
