Foot switch gets bumped and jams.
As other reviewer mentioned the foot switch is not a good idea. It gets bumped too easily and jams. I can't even open it and have smelly trash in there. I am sure it will cost a lot to fix it if it is fixable. This is the 2nd time and the first year we own it. Bad design, but nice to look at.

Unless thats real gold showing thru, its a Trash Can.
The first time I cleaned the handle the coating came off. I removed the rest with some 000 steel wool and revealed a beautiful very shiny gold handle in just a few minutes. Wish I could match the other Profile Appliances with the same. The gold on this model is stylish and beautiful, The compactor broke after a month. Its a beautiful Trash Can.

GE...Take this OFF the Market
Broken Motor after 2 years and tarnished handle. Use now as a very expensive garbage can. Purchased a GE dishwasher at the same time that had a meltdown and would have caused a fire if we hadn't been home. GE what is the deal?

This product was a big disappointment for the $ I payed.
I purchased this particular trash compactor 4 years ago after having a trouble free Whirlpool for 10 years. Shortly after purchase, the foot pedal broke and the Stainless steel handle tarnished and turned into an ugly shade of copper. After 3 recent service calls, it was declared "legally dead" last week due to the fact the compressor motor totally gave out! What a disappointment!
