I think it's very workable..
4 Star Review   By jifferyb on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013

Very pleased, would like to have the top(liid) not plastic, and fit a little tighter. Waterproof(plastic bag) that's ok, it is in the ground. Thus a tighter lid.. over all it will work just fine.. but why the holes in the bottom plate(plastic bag). Shipping was right on time 5 stars for that.

The ideal in-floor safe!
5 Star Review   By Ryan on Home Depot - May 1, 2013

I have been doing a lot of internet searching for an in-floor safe. I was very happy to find that Home Depot carries this water-proof in-floor safe by Sentry Safes. If your an individual who is ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work, then this is the best in-floor safe for the best price. The bottom of the safe has three holes drilled into it so that it can be mounted to the floor. If you are going to mount the safe in the ground such as I did, then I recommend welding the holes shut to ensure that the safe will be water-proof. After I welded the holes shut I suspended the safe over my hole to ensure that the safe wouldn't sink while the concrete was drying. After all the prep work was complete it was time to mix up some concrete. I used several 90lb. bags, so if someone want to take my safe, they better pack a lunch! I like the fact that the safe has a removable door so I can change the door, and hence the combination, anytime I want. If you are a Do-It-Yourself kind of person and you are ready for a big job that takes only a Saturday afternoon, I highly recommend this Sentry water-proof in-floor safe with two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Great for the price
4 Star Review   By BowleggedBob on Home Depot - Apr 12, 2013

I must say, I sleep much better now. This is the best money I have spent in a long time. I was very pleased with the quality of the material. After I put the plugs in the bottom and placed it in the heavy plastic bag provided to prevent moisture and to protect the coating. Wow, nice.... The combo lid has a well made lock and is about 2 inches thick. The water tight cover with the O-ring works great. After the cement was poured, I was amazed how hidden it really is.....

Exactly what we were looking for.
5 Star Review   By roxtiger on Home Depot - Feb 12, 2013

We were looking for a hideaway safe easy to use and this fit the bill perfectly. Came very timely and packed nicely. A fantastic value compared to others we looked at.

Good value
3 Star Review   By tommc on Home Depot - Sep 25, 2012

Design of the top part of safe is not very secure. There is (12 gauge?) steel exposed around the door that could be cut fairly easily. A simple design change, flat(horizontal) steel welded into the tube instead of angled steel going to the top of the safe where it is above the door and exposed would solve the problem.

Great value
5 Star Review   By LesS on Home Depot - Mar 6, 2012

This is a improvement from the same safe I bought 12 years ago. I like the o-ring seal on the lid. The top screwed on cover can be hard to un-screw when new. Note* I gave it the high ratings because of the dollor value. You can buy a better quality safe for twice the money, I set mine in a concrete floor.

It surely serves the purpse
4 Star Review   By Foxy on Home Depot - Jan 31, 2012

We needed a floor safe due to a better security then the one installed above the floor that could be easily removed from the premises. Having said that, it presents some inconvinience to get to the stuff in it - kneeling on the hard floor, reaching, etc. Getting the safety combination just right requires practicing - my husband still does not get it...Other then that, I finally have it and am happy!

water proof
3 Star Review   By simsm7 on Home Depot - May 2, 2011

they say that this safe is waterproof. from the top it is with an O ring. but they put 3 mounting holes in the bottom. if you make a pit in your basement floor. (which this is supposed to be designed for) and drop it in and put concrete around it, the top will be waterproof. the bottom is next to sand or dirt that could seep moisture or even insects or bugs. they sent 3 little plastic pluges for the bottom. 1 of them was bad could not be used. would not seal anyway. I put some bolts in with copper washers to seal the bottom. even though the top locks it is still loose and you can rotate the top in complete circles. the reason i would not recommend this product is that most people would not know how to seal the botton effectively.

Security Safe, .31 Cu. Ft. Floor Safe
4 Star Review   By Steven200 on Home Depot - Jan 23, 2010

Very pleased with the quality of the safe, it was better than I expected for the price. Not a super heavy duty safe, but still should be very secure when installed. I like the cover and that it's water proof. Great price compared to other venders, plus free shipping. Koudos to Home Depot.

It will keep honest folks honest and...
4 Star Review   By Jeff3 on Home Depot - Apr 28, 2009

...thwart run-of-the-mill theives. HD had the cheapest price out there. Even though I can afford a $500+ Amsec, Guardian, etc. safe - why waste the money when this safe will do the trick? Even the most expensive in-floor safes are subject to physical removal by a persistant and well-prepared team of theives. The combo is changeable, if you're handy - essentially, you can mix up the numbers you already have, but that's up to 4 factorial (24) combinations that an unscrupulous Sentry employee would have to do perfectly. I set my Sentry7250 in with 4-80# bags of Crack Resistant 5000 Sakcrete and a welded ring cage of 1/2" and 5/8" rebar. Any thieves looking to remove my safe from the floor has a long day of work ahead of them! To ensure mine is damp-proof, I inserted the plastic plugs and epoxied them in on the inside and outside. One other thing I did was to spray 5 coats of 'dipping latex' all over the outside and a couple of coats over the inside. I used the HD plastic bag and zip-tied it to the top as instructed. To ensure that the safe was flush with the floor, I installed the plastic cap, folded over the top of the plastic bag and used several layers of painters tape to seal the top. I was careful when I screeded the concrete and later made sure not to finish trowel too hard over the safe. Nice-looking job.

Use it often to prevent failure
3 Star Review   By Goldbug on Home Depot - Apr 25, 2009

The description lists this as waterproof. It is definitely NOT waterproof. The white plastic lid has an o-ring between the ring and the lid, but where the ring is secured to the metal, there is no seal. The actual locking door (removable) also has no seals. Further, any moisture/water from the concrete mix you may use to secure it sub-slab will seep into the safe, rusting any metal contents, and causing mold/mildew on any paper work. This is even if you mount it inside the thick plastic installation bag. Further, if you don't regularly open the safe, the mechanical internals will 'freeze' in place. It's not rust, but a very light, whitish corrosion. If this happens, you won't be able to turn the combination dial. After installing mine in my single-story home (concrete slab), I did not access it for nearly six months. When I tried to open it, the dial would not turn. I called Sentry, and they told me I had to hire a locksmith to 'drill' the safe open. I did not want a complete stranger in my home to know where my safe was, what was in it, and how to forcefully open it. Sentry offered to pay for the locksmith (after I provided them with three estimates). I refused to hire a locksmith, instead, I drilled around until I hit the right spot. After getting it open, I again called Sentry. They asked me to send a photo of the serial number sticker on the handle to verify warranty - which I did. They then sent a new door for free. I now exercise the lid monthly. I also removed the back plate of the door (two screws hold it on), and lubricated all the parts liberally with silicone spray. Other than the musty smell when it's open, and the moldy/rusty risk, It works as it should now. Once you know where the drill points are (which you will see as soon as you remove the back cover - and this can onlly be done with the safe open) you'll realize you can 'pop' this safe open within 10 seconds. Knowledge is everything. The primary defense against this is concealment. Mounting it 1/4" below the slab level, I was able to 'tile' over the safe. Toss a throw rug over it, and a piece of furnature, and no theif will ever know where to attack it. Buy your gold and guns and get them stored safely!!!
