Much better tasting/smelling water
5 Star Review   By member SpinningLizard - Mar 6, 2008

Strengths: The filters make a big difference in cleaning the water. We have a well and the water is much cleaner and better tasting with these filters

Weakness: The only weakness is that it does not filter very fast. If you fill a pitcher or something and use that it is not so bad, but a glass each time you want one is time consuming.

I highly recommend these filters if you have any questions with your water. I also installed a whole house filter and it is amazing what was in the water we were drinking before (mainly sediments). I am sure that it was fine, but the water is much cleaner and better tasting now:)

Better options out there for filtering drinking water
3 Star Review   By member codance - Feb 11, 2008

Strengths: Great tasting water; easy to replace filters; faucet mounts are attractive (chrome or white).

Weakness: Carbon residue in the drinking glass; bulky PUR mount; messy spray when turned on unless you are careful (not good with kids).

I have both a PUR filter on the kitchen faucet and a Brita pitcher for the refrigerator. This double filtration results in incredibly clean tasting water. It is very helpful in the desert climate, where the water supply can contain a lot of calcium, lime and other minerals. The PUR mount is bulky on the faucet and you need to switch it off when using hot water. I have found that it sprays a fast stream and is rather messy when using. Water gets all over the counter, so be careful not to turn the cold water handle too fast. The filters themselves are about $8 each, if you purchase in bulk. This is more expensive than the Brita pitcher filters, which cost about $5 each. Both filters do leave carbon residue behind, but the Brita leaves the residue in the pitcher and not in your drinking glass. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Brita pitcher alone. Also, I have tried an under-the-sink filtration for the tap water and I prefer this to the PUR mount.

Affordable filter that produces great tasting water
4 Star Review   By member sonrij - Feb 5, 2008

Strengths: 1) Affordable 2) Easy to Install 3) Long Lasting 4) Clean and Great tasting water

Weakness: 1) The Filter housing takes up some space at the faucet 2) Pours kind of slow initially, which gets better with use

The city water run through this filter tastes great. I feel the water quality is fine, and have not had any problems with minute particles in the water. The filter is easy to install, but pours kind of slow initially, which gets better with use. For my kind of usage, the filter should last about 3-4 months, which is a great deal. The filter housing does take up some space at the kitchen faucet, and takes some time to get used to it. NEVER run hot water through the filter.

Long lasting filters at a convenient price.
4 Star Review   By member IonutRadu - Jan 15, 2008

Strengths: Long lasting. Easy to install. Relatively cheap price.

Weakness: They don't seem as efficient as previous generation PUR faucet filters. Sometimes find debris in water.

First the Pros: 1. These filters last pretty long: I use it pretty regularly (consuming on average about a gallon of water a day), and one filter usually lasts about 2-3 months. I usually refill water bottles and that saves big time on the cost of bottled water. 2. The filters are so easy to change out that a child could do it. Just follow the pictures on the box/package. 3. The best place I have found them for sale is at Amazon. A box of six is an incredible deal at about $50 with free S&H. Now the Cons: 1. I have used the previous generation water filters that had a charcoal filtration system that I thought was much more efficient. Of course, the filters didn't last quite as long, but I felt more confident about the water I was drinking. These new filters use a carbon & mineral filtration system which doesn't seem to filter out the smallest particles. 2. Often I'll see some black debris in my water that may have come from the carbon filter breaking up and seeping through the "natural minerals". 3. Also, when you first install the filter, you better let it run for 5 minutes as instructed because the water has a very "soapy" feel and look to it. That's kind of scary. Makes me wonder exactly what's in the filter. Conclusion: the faucet filter works nicely and doesn't get in the way. It is easy to turn on and have nice filtered water. Debris is rare, but occasionally it happens. But in the end, I feel better about the water and it tastes much fresher and crisper than regular faucet water, so I will continue to use this product in the years to come.

Good Tasting Water, Still Expensive Though
4 Star Review   By member nemesisdb - Oct 12, 2007

Strengths: Good tasting water that's cheaper than bottled. Convenient.

Weakness: Not as effective as pitcher filters. Expensive.

These are much nicer than pitcher filters since you don't have to wait and filtering happens on the fly. Even the 3 stage ones (like these), don't remove as much 'junk' though -- specifically heavy metals like mercury or copper aren't even touched by these. As for faucet filters though, these are probably the best in existence for what they filter -- they just can't compare to a pitcher. The 3 stage filter is supposed to make the water taste better vs the 2 stage (filters over 'minerals'). I can't tell the difference. I just bought these because they ended up being cheaper than the 2 stage (they also filter out more pollutants).

Pur Ultimate 3-Stage Faucet Filters 6-pack
5 Star Review   By member mabsrubio - Sep 7, 2007

Strengths: The price was great, 6 pack means it'll last probably a year without having to buy more, so convenient.

Weakness: None!

I love the PUR water filter that I have and buying the 6-pack replacements is the most convenient and easiest thing ever. They are shrink-wrapped so you know they're clean, they're easy to replace, and there's not a lot of wasted packaging.

Good to use with a PUR faucet
4 Star Review   By member thisis - Aug 10, 2007

Strengths: - good tasting water - filters out 99.99% of "stuff" - buying 6-pack is a better deal than smaller packs - easy to install

Weakness: - will need to keep buying filters, but overall a lot cheaper than buying water from the store

Frankly, if you choose to filer your water, and you choose the PUR brand, you have little choice but to keep buying PUR filters. The 6-pack is a good deal (cheaper than buying 2- or 3-packs), and results in good tasting water. I have been using PUR filters for> 1 year now, and am a believer.

Purely Pure
5 Star Review   By member karmaleyez6 - Jul 30, 2007

Strengths: Best way to make your own clean drinking water from your tap.

So simple to use, just read the red replace filter indicator on filter housing and know its time to change filters. Confident in my tap water being better than store bought bottled water. Encourages people to drink the recomended 8 glasses per day.

Best value for water filter replacements..
4 Star Review   By member NavyGuy - Jul 4, 2007

Strengths: good value space saving

Weakness: no added minerals for taste

I'll be honest here.. I live in Los Angeles and we have the safest water around the nation. The water adheres to strict government regulation etc. However, the taste of the tap water is something to be desired and this is where the water filters come in. They do a great job of removing all the particulates contributing to the bad flavor. But frankly, I use water most of the time for cooking and making a pot of coffee so I'm sure I'm not reaping the benefits. I use bottled water for just drinking. But this gives my girlfriend the piece of mind. I prefer the taste of bottled water with the added minerals but the cost of the service and cooler isn't justifiable against the mini bottled water & pur filter combo.

Pur Ultimate 3-Stage Faucet Filter RF-9999 6-Pack
4 Star Review   By member hiaragon - Apr 3, 2007

Strengths: results in excellent tasting water

Weakness: wish it lasted longer

This water filter was easy to replace, and results in water that has an excellent taste. We appreciate that the water filter removes sediment and more things that the two- stage water filters. This may result in the filter not lasting as long as we wish, however, we like it well enough to order a six pack of new filters.
