This product is a very important feature in our lives.
5 Star Review   By archie on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

We replaced our previous filter with the new , easier to install icemaker filter. The store personnel were very helpful in helping me find the filter I needed. The filter turns out fresh icecubes of which everyone likes the taste. As the filter is behind and under the fridge, pictures are not realistic.

Ice made with filtered water tastes great
5 Star Review   By GLM123 on Home Depot - Apr 13, 2013

My new refrigerator has an ice maker but no filter. The ice tasted awful. The appliance store suggested adding a water filter. After finding the installation directions given by "HomeownersHelper," I purchased the filter & recommended attachment supplies. The directions were easy to follow & worked beautifully. The only change to them I made was to include a step of hooking up the wall line 1st, then running water through the filter several times (per the GE filter's instructions), then attaching the filter's small line to the refrigerator. Also, to secure the filter to the refrigerator, I tied a small bungee cord to it & hung the hooks on 2 Command adhesive hooks applied to the refrigerator back. Once in use the filtered water ice cubes tasted great in less than 24 hours.

Great replacement filter
5 Star Review   Home Depot

If you already have the quick connect fitting on your water line, then this is the right filter for you. The newer filters don't have the quick connects and instead use a push in and release mechanism directly with the water line ... which scares me a little bit. I have never had problems in 20 years with this type of filter so I am going to continuing using this design as long as I can.

Easy Setup without Quick Connectors
4 Star Review   By HomeownersHelper on Home Depot - Nov 23, 2012

These GXRTQR Inline water filters can be connected to your refrigerator water line even without the quick connectors. This often confuses purchasers who are buying this item for the first time, since the mating connector to the quick connectors are not what you find on the back of most refrigerators. Fear not, with a few adapters and some hose, you can quickly adapt your refrigerator's water feed line to use these excellent water filters with ease. Using pliers or a wrench you can unscrew the 'quick connector' ends from this water filter, which leaves you with a threaded 1/4" OD compression connector on each end. On your refrigerator side, most expect a normal 1/4" inner diameter connector. So you'll want to get a short 1/4" to 1/4" hose, like SKU # 723666. Now you'll need an adapter to screw into the water filter to match up to the 1/4" connector on the hose to the 1/4" OD compression connector on the water filter. The WATTS adapter SKU # 544574 works perfectly. Teflon tape the larger end and screw into the 'water out' side of the filter. Then connect the short 1/4" to 1/4" hose (the SKU # 723666) to the other end of the adapter. Assuming you already had water going directly to the refrigerator without any filter, now its just a matter of putting a second SKU # 544574 adapter on the 'water in' side of the filter (again with teflon tape) and then screwing your existing water line into the adapter. If you're installing a water line for the first time, the adapter you choose will be dependent on the type of water line you're installing. If you're using copper or plastic tubing (I recommend copper) then the spare parts that come with the SKU # 544574 adapter can be used to terminate the water line in a conventional 1/4" inner diameter connector that will fit the adapter just perfectly. Tighten connections, slowly turn on the water and check for leaks. Once all is good, you'll have a solid setup that can be easily unscrewed from the water filter every 6 months or so when you want to replace your filter. Next time you're in the store, thank the guys working in the plumbing department who figure out all these details so you don't have to!

GE Icemaker Filter
5 Star Review   By Jake on Home Depot - Oct 25, 2012

This is the 4th time I have used this water filter since we bought our Whirlpool refrigerator two years ago. I'm very satisfied with the results since the inner refrigerator filter has failed and I have removed it permanently. I think it is a manufacturing defect, but Whirlpool disagreed! I sent them the attached picture with the dates imprinted on the them and another picture with dirty water. They still won't admit to their design malfunctioning.

Great water
5 Star Review   By farmgirl95602 on Home Depot - Aug 12, 2012

Remember to flush the unit before you attach. Charcoal dust comes out with the first water run through the unit. It's great for well water that has a lot of lime in it.

Does the job
3 Star Review   By Corky on Home Depot - Jul 31, 2012

The filter does the job, I don't know if there is substitute, but if there were, I would try it. Why? Because the newly installed filter emits black charcoal dust for a few tray fulls of ice and I chose to throw away the grey ice cubes. They say it's safe to use, but they look awful. That is why I chose not to give the filter a top rating, it's expensive and the charcoal dust is annoying.

Easy to install
4 Star Review   By BaketownCrystalDowns on Home Depot - May 15, 2012

This filter deliver noticeable fresher water taste for the first few weeks, after that my senses got used to it. The cost of the filter had risen 50% over the last 5 years and I think it is reasoner compared to a competitor. Do not know how good is its claims on its filtering metal element but psychologically I feel good than drinking water from the tap

Cheap and easy
5 Star Review   By Yoshi on Home Depot - Sep 22, 2009

I didn't want to pay $60 for my fridge filter so I took the filter out and spliced this in-line filter into the water line behind the fridge. I use duct tape to keep it in place until time to change it out next time. For less then $12, I get at least 6 months of filtration. It's a piece of cake to install if you get the kit for a couple $$$ more... then next time you just need the filter that clips in when its time to change the filter. Water tastes great too!
