Perfect color combination
I am very happy with the black sides of this stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator. It goes perfectly with my colors in the kitchen! I am still trying to adjust to the amount of space from our old refrigerator which had an "openness" to it with the freezer on the top. The icemaker is a little messy...I had to put a rug down so the floor wasn't constantly getting wet.

worst fridge I've ever owned
On the outside this unit seems high quality and a good deal. However, it is a dud GE has been selling for well over six years without improving on it's faulty parts. This unit was the base model the builders installed in every house in my development. So unless you upgraded this is what you got. I was one of about 30 households to keep this unit. On the outside this unit seems high quality and a good deal. However, it is a dud GE has been selling for well over six years without improving on it's faulty parts. This unit was the base model the builders installed in every house in my development. So unless you upgraded this is what you got. I was one of about 30 households to keep this unit. I finally had to get rid of it after 6 years. And mine lasted the longest out of everyone, barely. Everyone else's had several repairs and then the compressor went after about 3 years! So my experience was hardly isolated! The ice maker AND the water line, two separate components, broke EVERY year. That was $250-$300 every time to fix. Obviously the problem was never solved with working parts... it simply breaks again a year later. In the mean time, the handles always come loose. The freezer shelves always fall inside. It was very loud. A couple times I thought someone was in my yard using a chain saw, and then realized it was the fridge! And every other year or so, an unexplainable occurrence would happen when the temps would go hay wire and the freezer would melt..so if the ice maker was even working at the time then the ice melts and drips out the door on the floor. And everything in the 2 drawers in the bottom of the fridge side freeze solid! By the time you can have someone out to look at it, it would be back to normal. And they can't fix something they can't diagnose! When we got this unit they were $1000, now they are $1200! And it's the same unit with the same problems! After this experience I could never bring myself to buy a GE appliance again. I paid for three of these fridges(in repairs) over 6 years... and the problems never went away. I wouldn't even rate this one star, but I don't have that option. BUYER BEWARE

Compressor is VERY loud
There is a persistent rattle when the compressor is on, GE technician said this is normal for variable blow compressors. The rattle is audible, and quite irritating. Consider buying a different fridge.

My new GE refrigerator
Size is perfect, look is what I wanted....delivery was very clean, quick and professional... The filter for the water is far superior to my last one.

constantly warms up
Brought 3 years ago. It seem like every Sunday morning we wake up to water on the floor because the freezer temp has risen to 9 and the fridge is up to 46. It goes back to normal by Monday pm, so repairman thinks we are crazy. Veggies and meat freeze in fridge drawer no matter what setting you use. Totally frustrated.
