PROS: 1. Innovative FEATURES 2. Nice design 3. LOTS of room CONS: 1. (Major) Horrible refrigerant cooling system design, function, durability and reliability(the WHOLE point of a fridge to begin with) 2. (Major) Very loud, disturbing noises after a few months 3. Fridge is not made to last - would be surprised if they lasted more than a year. Mine lasted 4 months with light use, and being babied. 3. (Major) GE Customer Service - will take a miracle to get them to do anything and even to respond to calls. 4. (Minor) Doors should lay flush against the fridge cabinet, when open, to easily remove drawers for cleaning. 5. (Minor) No feature for auto fill, convenient for multi-tasking when cooking. 6. (Minor) Hot water dispenser only holds about 9 oz of hot water. This feature is kind of a waste and unnecessary, I still use my tea pot. REVIEW My husband and I bought the GE CFE29TSDSS, Cafe refrigerator with hot water dispenser in May 2013. We have paid for it dearly. When it was first installed this fridge ran wonderfully, was quiet, and a joy to have. We loved all of the "features". Four months later, the fridge started to make grinding noises nearly 24-7, as well as sounding like an airplane was taking off in our kitchen. We called GE to have a tech come out and look at it. The next day we received a box from GE that contained parts for the repair. GE did NOT communicate with me that they were doing this. They also failed to inform their OWN technician they were doing so. When he arrived, he was very apologetic, but informed us that he was not going to be able to fix our fridge for another week. GE hadn't allotted him enough time for our fridge repair, which he said would take at least 2 hours. GE only gives their techs 1/2 hour for each service call, unless the tech lets dispatch know in advance that the call is going to take longer. Our tech couldn't do that because he didn't know GE sent the parts box. The day of his 1st repair visit he was 1 1/2 hour late. I tried calling GE several times to find out where he was, and no one was able to put me through to their dispatch unit. None of the GE customer service reps seemed willing or able to help me. They just told me to wait and that he would be here soon. He was also late the next week. This time when I called GE, they told me that they didn't have an appointment scheduled for our fridge until the following day - yet the automated system confirmed our appointment for when the tech told me he would be here. So, I was waiting around, wondering if the tech was even going to arrive. He did arrive that day, but he was again late. Please, it is NOT the technicians fault, he has to follow the dispatcher's instructions, and is given very little time to complete jobs, which means he is constantly overbooked and short on time. He started the repair and accidentally broke the copper refrigerant line. We do not blame the technician, since GE used the cheapest copper they could get their hands on for this fridge. The slightest touch broke it in half. This discouraged us, we expected more from a $3000 American made, high end appliance. So, the tech had to reschedule again since he had to order the part that he accidentally broke. He came back the next day, did the repairs, which took nearly 3 1/2 hours, and started the fridge up. He told me to give it 24 hours to start cooling again. I thought that was odd because it started cooling within 2 1/2 hours of delivery and installation. Well, long story short, it never cooled down. The internal temp of the fridge stayed at 62 degrees. We called again, and we had to wait another two days for the tech to come out again. The poor tech spent another 3 1/2 hours trying to fix it. The fridge at this point was beyond repair, and he informed us even the GE manufacturing plant would junk it - they wouldn't even scrap it for material. So we have a broken fridge, were given a case number, and given the name of our case manager. You'd think the case manager would have called us, right away, when she saw the notes and situation. Wrong. WE had to contact GE to initiate replacing or refunding our money. I have talked to GE over the course of a week about 12 times, and have left message after message for OUR assigned case manager to give me a call. She STILL has not called us back. Because this fridge is on back order where we live, they wanted to to replace our $3000 fridge with a less expensive model and NOT reimburse us the difference. When I declined, they then offered me a more expensive model, and I asked them if they were going to eat the cost, they said I would have make up the difference. Either way, GE was asking for more money from us on a product that was faulty the minute it left the factory floor - our technician admitted to that fact. I did, however, manage to get through to one of the reps who I hope will help us through their buy-back process. I am still awaiting confirmation she received our faxes to start the process. I can only hope she comes through. On top of this, we had MAJOR food loss over the course of 3 weeks, over $500 worth of organic produce and food. GE wasn't going to pay for any of this, we literally had to fight with them to get even a portion of this loss back. We did our best to keep our food cool in a cooler, but most food needs to stay dry as well, which is difficult to manage in a cooler. Produce is particularly vulnerable to wet conditions. I could literally go on and on about this experience and the lies and runaround that GE IS currently putting us through. Our next step is to write a letter to GE Corporate Headquarters and seek legal counsel if they don’t respond to us soon. I would NOT recommend this product, nor any GE product, to anyone, not even my worst enemies.

Very Loud

I have the GE model number GFE29HSDASS which I purchased in April 2013. This is a very very very loud unit. At night when all of the TV are off, you can sometimes hear the compressor coming on, when I am upstairs in my bedroom. It appears most the GE French door fridges have this problem. I do not recommend any of GE french door fridges for purchase. They look very nice, but the noise will drive you nuts. I wish I had kept my old fridge. Buyers beware.

This thing has a fan that makes a very loud grating/whining noise that can be heard through the entire house. The GE rep came out and said it is normal. That is unbelievable, especially for such an expensive unit. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this fridge. Or at least do a Google search on GE refrigerator noise before you do so you can make an informed decision.

Too Loud

This fridge is very LOUD. There is a buzzing/grinding noise while it's cooling, which is most of the time. I don't think it is compressor noise - it sounds more like a fan. I searched the issue online and found a number of other people who have the same complaint but were told by GE that this is normal for this refrigerator. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE for such a high-end, expensive unit. The fridge has some nice features, but not enough to make up for the noise. Seriously, it sounds like elves are running a buzz saw in there. I don't know if the issue is due to bad GE engineering or bad GE quality control, or even bad GE customer service. At this point I don't care. I just need to get this thing out of my house. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. Or at least Google "GE refrigerator noise" so you can see what you may be getting yourself into if you buy it.

Very Loud
