wonderful smoker for beginners and experts, easy temp control and high quality
5 Star Review   By gladiator0825 on Home Depot - Jun 4, 2013

After reading many reviews on different smokers, I decided to purchase the WSM. Being new to smoking I couldn't be happier with this unit. Easy temp control and the high quality of Weber products make this a no brainer for anyone. Already smoked a pork butt and it turned out great with my first use.

Easy for anyone, results of a pro!!
5 Star Review   By ShaneB on Home Depot - Feb 26, 2013

Alright, let me start by saying i researched smokers for several weeks and went back and forth from the bullet style to the side box wood burners. I came to the decision to get the side box wood burner, the $299 Brinkmann on this site to be exact, and changed my mind at the last second. Initially i wanted the wood burner for "authentic" BBQ results and experience. My manager at work cooks in competitins and owns several large wood burners, we've used them at work to cook for our employees and the food was nothing short of amazing. Surprisingly enough, he is the one that suggested buying the Weber Smokey Mountain "WSM" since he knows i'll be using it for cooking at home but, he also stated he's seen on more than one occasion the WSM's take home winnings at competetions. To get back on track, the WSM was very easy to assemble and i learned almost everything there is to know about temp control with it on the very first day i used it. There is tons of online support and Youtube videos with great ideas, upgrades and cooking styles that are easy to follow and have amazing results. The WSM uses very little fuel compared to the side box smokers which means you dont have to tend your fire at all for the most part, you may add a piece of wood chunk every now and then but once you learn the "Menion" method you can close the lid with your temp probes hooked up and never touch it again until your meat is done! I had 100% confidence in the WSM and it's temp control after the first time using it, i can, and do walk away for hours at a time without a worry. A helpful tip is to get temp probes with wireless modules so you can monitor meat temp and smoker temp from inside the house which i find extremely convenient (not as expensive as it sounds). I went with the 18 1/2" model and is plenty of cooking space for me, i can smoke 4 large butts or 6 small, 8 racks of ribs ( in rib racks and cut in half) and 2 turkeys etc. All in all i don't have 1 complaint about the WSM, you can not beat it for the price. I have no regrets choosing this over the wood burner, the meat i've cooked taste as good or better than what i've had from a true wood burner and has that authentic wood smoke taste and smoke ring everyone likes. If you're on the fence about which smoker to get, i strongly suggest the WSM, you will not regret it.

Great smoker. Delicious food. Weber Quality.
5 Star Review   By boknows on Home Depot - Jan 15, 2013

This thing is very well built (as all Webers are) and easy to put together. I've done 6 or so smoking sessions with it so far, smoking a whole turkey, 2 whole chickens, sausages, a Pork Butt, and a brisket. The 3 bottom vents and 1 top vent make it easy to regulate the temperature. The little hatch door makes it easy to check the charcoal (though, in a 10hr smoke, I didn't need to add any) and to add more water to the pan. I expect that I will get a lifetime of use out of this.

Best smoker out there in this price range!
5 Star Review   By efjay on Home Depot - Jan 8, 2013

I've got a few cooks under my belt with the WSM and I love it. Everything has turned out amazing...even with some trouble holding temps (due to lack of experience). It doesn't take long before the cooker gets seasoned and holds steady temps with little fuss. The 18.5 is a good size for me, easy to move around (I suggest adding handles - Genie garage door handles fit on the existing rack bolts). I cooked 3 racks of baby backs and 10 drum sticks on it with no problem. Don't hesitate-get the WSM!

Great product - wish I had gotten the bigger version, though.
5 Star Review   By rstlne on Home Depot - Nov 6, 2012

This is a very high quality product, and was easy to assemble and use. It came with a good quality cover, too. Although big enough to handle most jobs, I wish I had gotten the bigger version just because I think it would be more versatile. Be warned, however, not to use it in cold/windy weather, as it may not get up to optimum smoking temperature (as I recently discovered). The built-in thermometer is not very accurate, either.

Amazing smoker!!!!!
5 Star Review   By Shawn on Home Depot - Sep 5, 2012

I did a great deal of research on finding the right smoker and this has proven to be a wise decision. I am able to hold 225 for 7 hours straight with no problems. It is true to wait for 2-3 smokes before it reaches its potential also but well worth the wait. Ribs are a bit tricky especially spare ribs a little creativity pays off. It has been a wonderful smoker! It also saves you on smoking chunks and charcoal and it is extremely efficient. The best purchase I have made when it comes to BBQ.

Great product, fast shipping!
5 Star Review   By mototlv22 on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2012

This is a really nice smoker if you want to pick up a new hobby, I have really become obsessed since I have gotten it. The thermometer is a little off (25 degrees) from the temp at the top and the temp at the grate, but that is to be expected. I bought a digital oven/grill probe that can stay in the smoker to help. The smoker maintains temp really well and is easy to adjust. Shipping was really quick, I received it days before I was supposed to, which caused me to have to run to the store to buy some meat to put on it right away since I wasn't prepared yet!

A quality product
5 Star Review   By ravenstar on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2012

The WSMC is ridiculously easy to use even for a beginner, and there are lots of independent web resources devoted to getting the most out of it. (Well worth researching while you're waiting for delivery.) Initial assembly is simple and quick, and the product works as well as advertised. The construction is far superior to low cost imitations, and the porcelain enamel coating is both rugged and easy to clean. Definitely worth the investment to anyone who wants a product that will last more than a year or two. The 18 1/2" model has plenty of capacity for most home cooks. I've had good results with 8 racks of ribs or six pork butts at one time. Although I've only used it twice so far, it has far exceeded my expectations even given the glowing reviews elsewhere.

A Must Have!
5 Star Review   By Jake on Home Depot - Sep 3, 2012

Like most guys, I would love to claim I'm skilled in the grilling department. However, like most, I often find myself guessing at what I do when it comes to BBQing. This Weber Smoker literally takes allot of the guesswork out of the whole process. Assembly was a breeze and the mobility is great. Despite having little knowledge in the Smoking arena, there are plenty of informative sites on the Internet. I used it for the first time yesterday at a neighborhood block party. Like I mentioned earlier, I don't have allot of knowledge in BBQing; however, the BBQ was nothing short of AMAZING. One reccomendaron, pick up the Weber Chimney Starter and try The Minion Method, super easy. Easy clean-up too. The only negative is the price, a bit expensive, but trust me, use it once, you'll forget all about that. A must have for all who want to BBQ like a Pro!

Love my Weber !
5 Star Review   By lisa999 on Home Depot - Aug 28, 2012

Smoked chicken over the weeked and used the Weber for the first time. It was a breeze, now granted Chicken is supossed to be easy that is why I went with it first. My family loved it and it was so tender it was incredible. Look online for all kinds of information regarding the bullet. Lot's of urls with helpful hints, how to set the dampers etc. Setup was easy. Can't wait to smoke ribs :)

What a great way to prepare a Sunday meal! From ribs to turkey to ham to brisket. This is the bomb. I've got friends with smokers that cost them 5 times the price of this one and don't produce a better feed. I'll use it forever...it's a weber after all.

Egg-Head Loves this Smoker
5 Star Review   By thedougie on Home Depot - Jul 15, 2012

I've been an avid Big Green Egg user for users, literally bringing it with me on every vacation. Now that I'm a bit older, my back won't tolerate hauling it around, so I decided to explore lighter-weight smoking options that were more portable but with ample smoking capacity, thus I discovered the Smokey Mountain cooker. I ordered the 18 and 1/2 incher on HD.com and it arrived flawlessly in a couple days. It was easy to assemble, less than 15 minutes. Yesterday I smoked two beef chucks that turned out fantastic. The Smokey was incredibly fuel efficient and consistent, and the pulled beef came out perfect. The product quality is extremely high, right down to the cover. I would highly recommend this to any avid smoking enthusiast and plan to use it often.

Great smoker !
5 Star Review   By Kemrjm on Home Depot - May 15, 2012

I have never owned a smoker before so I did alot of reading before deciding on this brand . I have a Weber gas grill that for the for the past seven years has been great . So that being said I figured that Weber also made a quality smoker . So far this thing has produced some really tasty smoked chicken . Once I got the hang of the vents it was really easy to look after with little fussing . So all in all I am very happy with the quality and the performance .

This product, as are all Weber products, top shelf.
5 Star Review   By homeboy on Home Depot - Apr 11, 2012

I bought this item for my son, as a home warming gift. He had told me that he had seen this on one of the Cooking Shows that featured a meat smoking competition. He said one of the competitors used this Weber Smoker, at $300. His competitors used custom built smokers, costing thousands. The guy with the Weber won the competition. I figured it was worth a try. Our first attempt was 2 racks of baby back ribs, 2 weeks ago. They were phenominal. We look forward to using it for many more years for turkey, fish, beef, pork...whatever. A great product. Easy to use, easy to clean.

The Smokey Mountain Delivers as promised
5 Star Review   By Bob10 on Home Depot - Nov 29, 2011

I had read about this model after seeing other lesser smokers was dismissing buying a smoker altogether but a friend convinced me this one would work. Last night was the first run and the pork came out perfect and the unit was so efficient there was enough fire left to cook a chicken. I understand it will hold 40 lbs of pork at a time so big parties just got a whole lot easier. Only regret I have was waiting so long to get one. The chicken was an after thought but if I had thought a bit more about what I was doing probably could have cooked for the whole week on one fire

What a well made high performance smoker!
5 Star Review   By Tigger on Home Depot - Nov 18, 2011

This Weber is a beautifully made piece of equipment that blew me away with how well it performed. I did the test fire to season up it up and was amazed at how easy it was to adjust the air flow and held the temp in the smoke zone. I have been through several cheap smokers over the years and was planning on getting another one. Found this little jewel on sale and took the leap. From how it is packed in the box to how easy it is to assemble this is quality all the way. The skin is porcelain, the grates are heavy chrome. The first food off the smoker was as easy as any smoker I have ever used. Can't wait to cook the holiday turkeys on it.

This is an excellent smoker.
5 Star Review   By glh17 on Home Depot - Oct 8, 2011

I got my WSM last July and have used it ten or so times. I did quite a bit of research prior to my purchase and I can tell you that everything good that you've heard about it is true. One factor you might want to consider is the amount of support for Weber products. Although I've never had to contact Weber, there is an active website devoted entirely to Weber products (Virtual Weber Bullet) that is not affiliated with Weber. You can get all kinds of information at the site. About all you need to learn is how to adjust your vents to achieve a target temperature. This is easy and once you get it right the smoker will maintain it. Clean up is very easy. The smoker is in 3 sections and there's no problem when it comes to adding charcoal for long cooks or adding water to water pan. I really enjoy this smoker.

I bought mine at my local Home Depot. You'll need a flathead screwdriver and a 7/16 wrench for most of it, and a small phillips screwdriver for the last easy step. I assembled it in about 20 minutes. This baby has a gorgeous finish and you'll freak out at how big the water pan is. 'Water pan' is not even a fair characterization of it. It should be called the Tsunami Bowl. I wrap mine in foil so I don't have to clean it every time I use it. Anyway....before I cooked on it, I wanted to season it. The first step was to burn a full load of charcoal in it without food (or water) at 350 degrees and above for as long as it would burn. Then I cleaned out the ash and using the Minion method (and some fist sized chunks of Apple and Cherry wood) I did a slow burn (5-7 hours) at about 225-250 degress with some bacon strips, some pork fat, and some chicken thighs. I wasn't planning to eat any of it, so I didn't salt or season any of it. I never even lifted the lid for about 6 1/2 hours. But when I got finished, the chicken and bacon looked so good I had to try it, and it was literally some of the best tasting most tender chicken I have ever tasted, and that was without one single grain of salt or seasoning. And the bacon was crispy and smokey. WOW. So, I seasoned it one more time the same way and then I was ready to cook. I've cooked with a lot of gear and I have to say that this is one of the easiest cookers that I have worked with that still gives you competition results. As a general rule, always leave the top vent fully open and use the three vents at the bottom to control your temp. Once I get mine settled in around 250 I literally have left it for 4-5 hours without even checking on it. When I come back it's still hovering around 225 like a loyal friend! For longer smokes you'll have to add some more fuel, but if you max out the charcoal ring and keep the Tsunami Bowl full, you could go 10-12 hours without refueling using the Minion method, which is basically putting unlit charcoal in first and then adding hot coals to it so that the hot coals will eventually light the unlit coals for a long slow burn. I fill the charcoal ring half full of unlit coals, then I move all of the them to the perimeter of the ring. Then I bury some apple and cherry wood (or whatever you like) in the unlit coals. Finally I dump hot coals from a chimney into the middle and throw a couple of chunks of wood on top. Then I adjust the bottom vents to about 3/4 closed to get into the smoking range. You may have to adjust these a few times on a long burn. These cookers seem expensive, but not compared to many BBQ smokers and not when you see how long they last (I have other Weber gear too) or taste the food that comes out of them. I love mine and highly recommend it! (Ps. My nickname says WeberNewbie, but I haven't been a newbie for a long time. I should have never picked that name when I first registered because now HD won't let me change it. But it was my fault, not theirs.) Anyway, enjoy!!

Gift that keeps on giving
4 Star Review   By Jess on Home Depot - Aug 31, 2011

I got this smoker for my husband after some research and we both love it. We use it weekly and love the great flavor it instills into the meats/veggies. He says it's the gift that keeps on giving because he loves experimenting and creating new flavors.

Smokey flvaor you can't beat
5 Star Review   By Okiegirl on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2011

My husband used this smoker for the first time yesterday and he said it was easy to maintain the temperature. We had plenty of room to smoke 2 slabs of ribs since there are two racks as well as 6 corn on the cobs. You won't find a better smoker at this price.

So far So good
5 Star Review   By BuckyBBQ on Home Depot - May 2, 2011

I have used this about five times so far this spring and it works pretty much as advertised. I have smooked some pork (tenderloin, ribs, etc.) and they have all turned out well. I have not tried a pork shoulder or brisket yet. I like the faetures of this smoker and was happy that it came with a cover. This item was delivered within one week of ordering on line. That was helpful as most stores do not carry this item at their stores.

You might gain weight!

What a wonderful, well built yet simple product. And it can certainly double as a primary charcoal grill if you don't mind stooping down like you would with any small grill or hibachi because the lower grate that sits above the fire is about three feet up. I just use it for smoking so I only use the top grate, about waist high. I was new to smoking and bought this from Home Depot because it is known as the zen of smokers. Tips off the net for how to use this are everywhere so you can start smoking with confidence right off the bat. I can maintain 225 for four hours at a time and within a few degrees more or less for longer times with minimal vent control. I did "season" it prior to my first cook. I don't need the larger size so I picked this one. No, a full slab of St. Lous Ribs won't fit across the top grate without cutting a few off or placing them in a rib rack. But the extra four ribs or so fit next to the main rack on the grate so no big deal. The water pan on the smaller smoker fits fine in a sink for cleaning so that was a plus for me. Other than the water pan, you wire brush the grates on warm up like any other grill and scoop out the ashes like any other grill. The top cover thermometer gives you your smoking temp and your wireless gives you the internal meat temp. There should be no need to lift the cover during an entire cook since the wireless lead feeds easily through the top cover vent which is easily closed against the lead. You use a wireless for pork shoulders or larger cuts of meat, not the ribs. I've found the charcoal that works for me (yes, Home Depot sells it) and my neighbors are knocking on my door when I smoke. With hands out! One note: I didn't read things carefully enough when I ordered my smoker. It comes with a cover, where my other Weber (gas) grill didn't. So I ordered one from somewhere else to have one when it came in. The smoker comes with a nice cover.

Can't miss with Weber!
5 Star Review   By MoTiger on Home Depot - Oct 30, 2010

This smoker is so easy to use. Although you can't just "set it and forget it", it does only require a minimal amount of monitoring. We have smoked chicken, turkey and pork loins so far and all have been excellent. The only thing required after starting is monitoring the temperature on the built in thermometer, a few vent adjustments, adding a little more charcoal every couple hours and making sure the water bowl stays full. Perfect for tailgating, picnics or while working around the house. Large wood chunks work best. If your looking for a smoker to use unattended for long periods, this is not it, but with just a little attention, the Weber can't be beat!

We're Smokin'!
5 Star Review   By suzyhome on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2010

I purchased the Smokey Mountain 18.5" smoker for my husbands birthday a couple of weeks ago from the Home Depot on-line website. It came very quickly! My daughter's birthday party was last night and we decided to try the smoker out. We decided on pulled pork, buying 4 - 6lb. bone-in shoulders. It turned out absolutely delicious! The only problem we had was the day before when we smoked the meat, it was extremely windy. We had the smoker set in an open area and the wind kept the temperature in the smoking gauge area, but on the low side. It took about 11 1/2 hours of smoking until the meat was finished. A long wait, but definitely worth it! We are now considering pulled pork for her graduation party; in 4 years! In the meantime...brisket, ribs, turkey, chicken, etc. We can't wait!!!!!

Great Smoker!
5 Star Review   By KW84 on Home Depot - Jul 12, 2009

I have only owned this weber smoker for a week, but I love it already. The smoker was delivered with no problems and the assembly was easy. I smoked two chickens for 4 hours and did not have to add charcoal or water; just an adjustment with the bottom vents. This smoker is well built and I am looking forward seeing what all this baby can do!
