Excellent Heavy Duty Smoker
5 Star Review   By Bertogliat on Home Depot - Jun 13, 2013

I am really pleased with this smoker. It is large and heavy gauge making it easy to maintain consistent temperature. The leaks were minimal. I was ableto easily seal the leaks using a high temp silicon gasket used for wood stove. I am very glad I didn't spend the extra money on a more expensive smoker as this is all I should ever need. Great product! And whoever figured out how to get all of those parts into the box is a genius.

Takes practice but works great
4 Star Review   By Ribfather on Home Depot - Jun 11, 2013

I've read some negative reviews about smokers that are short of the ultra heavy-duty, super-expensive variety. I'm sure those hold heat a little better, but this Trailmaster definitely does the trick. I've made all kinds of ribs, shoulder, leg of lamb, brisket, you name it. Everything has been stellar, but it definitely takes some practice to get the hang of keeping the heat consistent. Start with something like pork shoulder, which is really forgiving and work your way up to ribs, etc. Either way, for $300-ish, this thing is outstanding.

worth the money
4 Star Review   By KimchiSmoke on Home Depot - May 31, 2013

Although the smoker could be better in terms of quality of parts and welds, it's well worth $300. The porcelain grates are heavy. Thermometer was not accurate but they're sending me new one. Customer service via web site was fast. Trailmaster is much better buy than cheaper $100-200 smokers from Brinkmann and Charbroil. It took me over 2 hrs to assemble. parts not labeled, so a lot of trial and error. Other than that, I'm happy with this bad boy!

Holds the temp well
4 Star Review   By Dave on Home Depot - May 14, 2013

This smoker really holds the temp well. I made no modifications. It takes less effort to smoke than the last 2-3 smokers that I have owned over the years. It is heavy duty and relatively easy to assemble. The firebox has a cool feature where the ashes drop out for easy cleaning. The thermometer is all filled with water and needs to be replaced. I'm a bit concerned that it came with hints of rust.

This product is the real deal. Good for serious smokers.
5 Star Review   By PatriotsFan on Home Depot - Apr 23, 2013

I am happy with this product. It is a very heavy smoker. It is easy to heat up very quickly, and holds heat very well over time (given that it is so heavy). If you are a beginner, this smoker is probably not for you. It is big and will certainly take up space in your yard or garage. I started smoking two years ago and wanted to step up my game. This has been a lot of fun for me so far.

a few years ago i had to finally get rid of my home made pit (sure miss it) since then we have tried a variety of mfg pits, they either burn to hot or the fire would not stay lite and or could not regulate the temp.. this one however we have used it twice and its awesome! the first round we used just the pit, held the temp at 350 with little attention, no excessive flame up when tending meats, next round we used the fire box, and i was impressed, we used a mixture of wood and charcoal and it held the 250 degrees though out the cooking process, was able to add wood as needed with out effecting the temp, I would recommend this product to any one who is looking for a good pit for cooking or smoking

Good smoker
5 Star Review   By FLRebel on Home Depot - Feb 4, 2013

I've smoked/bbq'd before on various pieces of equipment. My tin-can offset from walmart wasn't cuttin it so I decided I wanted a REAL bbq smoker. Figured I'd have to drop some good coin on one and started saving. Then I was in the Depot one day and saw this 'ol girl. Looked it over real good, went home and read some reviews/complaints/modifcations, and took it home that week after thinking about it some more. After the curing fire, I welded up a charcoal basket and filled it with charcoal briquettes... she didn't like it one bit. Temp all over the place. Tried lump charcoal, didn't like that either, way too hot. I didn't use any sealant when putting it together, as most folks will tell you to do. I wanted to see for myself what my particular smoker needed. So I figured, before I go and seal this thing up, let's try something: time for a REAL fire. Used a mix of oak from my wood pile and hickory from the store, and that's what it loves! She's a stick burner (as offsets are meant to be) and with some time and patience (and lots of beer) I've learned this particular smoker good enough that I can turn out some awesome ribs, pork shoulder, chicken, whatever. A small hot fire with good draft is the key. I actually have to leave the ash pan open a bit to get enough airflow. Might add a taller stack to get a better draft. What you want is a nice blueish smoke, not clouds of heavy white smoke, the heavy smoke contains creosote and will make the food bitter. The wood don't last as long as charcoal briquettes but that's part of the deal, tending your fire. As far as modifications go, I had to weld the firebox halves together since there was around an 1/8" gap after assembling it per the directions. Repainted with high temp grill paint. Also had to grind a bit of weld off the main handle on the side, to get it to sit flush with the mounting surface. Touched up with high temp grill paint. Stock temp gauge reads about 50* higher than grate temperature due to it's mounting location in the top of the door. Might weld on a threaded nipple for a temp gauge at grate level but for now I just subtract 50* from the reading on the factory gauge. Have verified this with a digital temp probe. Overall I'm real pleased with it. Go get one and don't think twice about not using any sealant if you'll be burning wood.

Awesome Grill, well worth the money!
5 Star Review   By David on Home Depot - Jan 12, 2013

Lots of room inside the grill for lots and lots of food. it will definitely need to be modded though, in order to more evenly disperse the heat across the entire surface of the grill.

Very satisfied and highly recommend
5 Star Review   By dezajic on Home Depot - Dec 11, 2012

The independent charcoal and smoke chambers are perfect for smoking large pieces of meat. I have used it three times since it arrived last month. Brisket, salmon and whole chickens. I am new to smokers, so I am still experimenting. It was easy to maintain a constant temperature whether that was 150 or 250 degrees. In the fire chamber, the vent is located at the same level as the charcoal rack, so air enters both below and at the same level as the charcoal. The smoke chamber stack is 18 inches above the chamber and allows easy control. The construction is solid. All components fit together without any modification. The lid to the smoking chamber is near air tight with the exception of the smoke stack and fire chamber openings. The same with the fire chamber. This unit is solid. The box weight was 190 lbs. This is not a thin sheet metal unit, very solid!!

Great Grill and Smoker
4 Star Review   By PJSJones on Home Depot - Oct 9, 2012

This grill and smoker is a great value and a great size for smoking big racks of ribs! It is well made and is a great value considering similar smokers I have seen online are considerably more expensive. Because the grill is so heavy, assembly required two people, but the instructions were pretty good and we didn't have any problems. It was a little difficult to get the cover for it (it took over a month to get delivered because it was out of stock everywhere), but if you get the one Brinkmann makes specifically for this smoker it fits perfectly.

5 Star Review   By Jersey on Home Depot - Oct 8, 2012

This is perfect for any backyard barbaquer! The value and quality is really there, it really does have a heavy-gage steel (not like most). I have used mine for a year now and for all sorts of meats and it works great, so much so that this is the first review I have ever written on any product.

It Could Use A few Mods
5 Star Review   By BBQlover on Home Depot - Sep 28, 2012

Picked up at the local Home Depot. Overall well built for the money. I welded the fire box ends there is a 1/8 gap on both ends which wreaks havoc when trying to control temps. I added a steel nipple mod to the chamber to pass my temp probes through, so far no other mods needed, holds temps well, I have used it a lot. Also modified the "soup" can drip catcher using a one gallon oil container which makes it easier to clean the unit, since you only need to dump the used grease after about twenty uses of course depending on what you are cooking. So far maintains temps pretty well side to side, I also use a water pan on the side where the fire box is located on the bottom grate to act as a heat diffuser to help maintain the chamber temps. Well worth the money, if you don't weld find a friend that does, and smoke a pork butt form him as payment!

Great price for what you get
4 Star Review   By Josh on Home Depot - Sep 18, 2012

Overall I am impressed with this product. For the price you can not get a better smoker. The metal is thick, all of the edges and smooth, and the grilling surface is big enough to throw anything you want on it. It also is sealed good enough to prevent the loss of smoke or heat. The only complaint I have is that when I received my box the Thermometer was snapped off of the base but that solved by using the old one off my other smoker. I would suggest this to anyone looking at purchasing it....but just be prepared to buy a thermometer!

Great selling features
4 Star Review   By tblk on Home Depot - Aug 14, 2012

I got this smoker as a gift for my husband. He was surprised at the size of the smoker, it is a little large. There were three selling features for me, 1. all around gauge of of metal, not just the door 2. the metal food grate 3. the ability to put charcoal into the barrel and just use it as a large bbq. I wanted to get a smoker that would last more than one summer, I believe this will last.

Very impressive.
4 Star Review   By 1121JSR on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2012

I read hundreds of reviews of various smokers, including many relative to this one, before making the purchase. The reviews of this smoker were accurate. It's really of good quality and, based on my research, the value for the product is without comparison. It's true you can assemble it alone. I did. But it would have been much easier with someone to help with things periodically. The only criticisms that I could offer is that the seasoning instructions were not clear and the distribution of heat is not particularly even. Admittedly, this is my first smoker with a side smoker box, so I should have known how to season the smoker - but I didn't. Ihaven't quite figured out how to position items within the smoker so that they are smoked and cooked evenly, but I trust that will come with time. Nonetheless, this is a very good product. I have used it several times and look forward to many more years of use.

Couldn't be happier!
5 Star Review   By SmokenRichie on Home Depot - Aug 4, 2012

Awesome smoker! Was an "android" smoker for years. I guess watching 'BBQ Pitmasters', made me rethink how I was doing my cooking. Bought the Trailmaster in May and haven't looked back. I did a few mods; RTVed all pieces when assemblying, made a fire box and added 2 temp gauges to the lower cook door. Have smoked some wicked chow! Temp control is like turning an oven knob. Definately recommend the cover. Fits like a glove.

not so heavy gauge construction
3 Star Review   By Patrick on Home Depot - Jul 26, 2012

the body of the smoker and fire box should have been made as thick as the doors are. If you can find a brinkman pitmaster deluxe smoker buy it. It is about twice as metal and every part is the same gauge. I also think the welds of the old one look better. I have one and that is why I bought this one, so when I received this one I was somewhat disapointed based on the quality of the old one. I admit this one looks prettier, the grates are better, and the ash drawer is a nice addition. It would have been nice if they could of made it in the USA.

Good entry/budget smoker/grill
3 Star Review   By cwback on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

I had done a fair amount of research on smoking/grilling. The price for very good quality with capacity starts around $900 on up and up. Being on a limited budget brought me to the Trailmaster. For doing your basic backyard, big party, after work burgers it works just fine. A little leaky for serious heat and smoke control but some simple modifications and practice with what you got always works. Great ribs and brisket etc. Solid steel and easy enough to assemble, with an extra set of hands. Made in China, which is always a downer. A little simple maintenance should make it last a good while.

Good buy . . . depending on how much you smoke
3 Star Review   By treknogeek on Home Depot - Jul 13, 2012

I have now smoked ribs and grilled some steaks and veggies on my new Trailmaster. Honestly, this buy is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The thickness of the metal is superior to anything I have seen short of a thousand dollar price tag, and the amount of cooking space is nice. However, there is a problem with cutting off air flow and effective smoking space. Obviously, the food nearest the firebox when smoking will cook the quickest, but the food at the far opposite end does not cook at anywhere near the rate that should coincide with the thermometer reading. In short, just past the thermometer the cooking temp drops dramatically. Also, there are many points along the body that allow air in. So, getting a good air flow is not a problem, cutting it off is. The above has, at times, made me wonder if I should have spent my 300 on a Weber Kettle grill, since I can smoke with that and lift up part of a hinged grill grate to add more fuel when grilling and have better control of the air. Despite these reservations/short comings, I am happy with my purchase. While I might not smoke a lot, I do smoke and despite its limitations the Trailmaster is a superior smoker to what the Weber can do and has a larger space for grilling. I do recommed some form of ash/drip pan for clean up, the 16 bolts/nuts on the inside of the cooking chamber make it a chore to clean around. I did this for my second cook and clean up was a breeze. Summary: Good smoker for the price but suffers from a lack of ability to restrict air flow.

Awesome, WAY better Quality compared to other Barrels and Combo's
5 Star Review   By tld193 on Home Depot - Jul 3, 2012

This grill has been the best I've owned so far. Tried grill smoking, that's boring, went to a small cheapo bullet, that was better but couldn't keep my heat in when adding more fuel or really get anything of a good size cooking. Now I switched over to this barrel style with a separate heat box and it sure does the trick. I shopped around for a while at my local giant home stores and other type stores but found other models use tin like metals, or try to fool you by just adding a heavy door, but this TrailMaster Limited Smoker is solid and heavy with much thicker gauge steel throughout. I’ve used both charcoal and hardwoods for heat sources, I’m amazed at how little fuel is used for 10+ hours of low and slow style cooking takes. High heat’s no problem either and I can easily regulate my temperatures with the vents on the side and smokestack. Build was a breeze, just be sure to follow the directions and season your grill as recommended. Other then finding one close by to pick up, which truly makes it "Limited" I have no complaints. If you're into smoking, don't want to spend a ton of money and don't mind learning how to tend to your fire pit (as most real smokers do), then buy one if you can find one, you won't be disappointed!

I simply love this grill! I have not cooked on it just yet, but it is sturdy and have heavy duty metal. I did not have to assembly the grill. Home Depot did it for me free of charge! If the grill was missing any parts I would not know but I would let the people from Home depot figure that out and replace the part themselves. This grill is sexy and I cannot wait to hear my meat sizzle this weekend.!

Great smoker for the money
4 Star Review   By bpwetzie55 on Home Depot - Jun 5, 2012

Was not very hard to put together. Took about 30 minutes. It appears to be very sturdy and heavy duty for a home smoker. Yes there are some leaks around the doors but nothing that has caused any problems. I've used it several times and hope to get a lot more use out of it. It has been very easy to get it to hold the temps that I've needed for smoking. I would not hesitate to buy this smoker again.

Excellent smoker
5 Star Review   By Nick on Home Depot - May 23, 2012

This smoker is one of the better ones of this style. Heavy duty with excellent heat retention and flow from the smoker box through the main chamber. Easy to assemble by yourself. The drawer for ash removal under the smoker box is by far one of the best designs I've seen. No ash or coals get in the way when you're trying to put the drawer back in vs. similar smokers where the drawer is on the side of the box. I've been able to get a pork shoulder and six racks of ribs, without a rib rack, on it.

For the price AWESOME....but...
4 Star Review   Home Depot

First off, you can't go wrong with Home Depot. If they sell it you know its a good product. It took me about 3 hours to put the smoker together. There were a couple of missing nuts and bolts, but nothing I couldn't scavenge from my inventory or pick up from the local hardware store. The bottom line is this. When you compare the price of this smoker to others in the same class you are going to save some serious money. $300 versus $600-$900 is a steal regardless of how many $.05 parts are missing. This smoker does everthing the others do. Here is what you will deal with...air gaps. I've done some work on mine in regards to sealing a lot of holes to make sure I'm getting a good draw of smoke and heat, and not just outside air. It's an easy fix, you just need to be creative and patient. All in all, a great product for the price. The construction might not be as good as the expensive competitors, however the fixes are cheap and EASY! ENJOY!

Best Grill/Smoker I have ever owned!
5 Star Review   By nnorb on Home Depot - May 8, 2012

We smoked our first 20 lbs of ribs on it 3 days ago and it was great. The temp was easy to control and the meat turned out fantastic. I grilled burgers on it 5 days ago and it worked better than any charcoal grill I have owned. I shopped on Amazon before buying this grill and comparable grills were $200 more. Quality is great, extra durable. Price was amazing!

Decent quality for the price.
4 Star Review   By bunk on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2012

Delivery went great. Assembly wasn't too complicated. It performed great on my first seasoning/ smoking use. Steel used could be a gauge thicker and axle rod could be an half inch longer ( not much thread to tighten wheel nuts on to) but otherwise a decent rig for the money.

Good for the money!
4 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Apr 24, 2012

This is a great beginners smoke house! First time we fired it up we had good results. Everything seems to work as it should. You definately need to babysit it...as the temperature is a bit hard to control, but that is to be expected with a unit this size. Be sure to get a good bed of coals before you put meat on it. Flames create too much heat. A bed of charcoal to get it started helps keep the temp even. Cook low, slow and all day long...you'll get great results!

Love the smoker but as others have said, the fit/finsih isn't perfect. I need to find some sealant to seal up the gaps. Otherwise, do NOT hesitate to buy this, your food will love you and vice versa.

Cooks well and looks great!
4 Star Review   By BKYRDBBQ on Home Depot - Apr 10, 2012

This is my second offset smoker and offers more cooking surface than the last. Have already done (separately) an 8 lb Brisket, 30 wings, a salmon filet, sausages, and 30 lbs of pulled pork - no issues with any of these. The firebox is not one piece like my last smoker and could use some sealing with a high-heat caulk where the top and bottom come together, but that seems minor as it has not affected cook time. Assembly was fairly easy and I only needed an extra pair of hands when attaching two of the legs to the cook chamber (could not physically turn the screw and hold the nut at the same time). Curing process was straightforward and I look forward to great 'cue for years to come. Only con is no way to feed the fire from the side like my last smoker - you have to lift the firebox door to add wood or charcoal. Just means you have to be quick!

Not made in America
4 Star Review   By Bobo on Home Depot - Apr 10, 2012

I was dissapointed that I searched to find a grill made in America. I researched and found Brinkman is an American Company however when I was assembling my grill I found an extremly small sticker that stated "Made in China". Nowhere on the site was this disclosed.

decent all around smoker / grill
4 Star Review   By bill16156 on Home Depot - Apr 4, 2012

Have smoked several chickens and 3 pork shoulders on it so far and it has just gotten better each time (experience!). I use just wood, so temperature control can be a bit tricky, but not as impossible as some would lead you to believe. Just use very DRY wood otherwise you get too much smoke and this can cause a bitter taste. We also use the fire chamber as a mini-grill for things like steaks and burgers. Family just loves them. I did replace the rather flimsy wood grate in the firebox with a piece of metal stair tread I had, and added an electronic thermometer. I put the probe through a potato and sit it in the smoke chamber farthest from the firebox. Great buy! Great eats!

My first few grilling experiences have been great. Even though I'm still breaking it in it works great. I do have some trouble regulating temperature but I'm sure I'll figure that out. It looks like a locomotive on my deck (: I thought Brinkman's was made in the USA. china ... whatever..... but hey! the price rocked!~

The product has great features.
5 Star Review   By BBQN on Home Depot - Apr 3, 2012

We recently purchased this grill and would suggest it's a must have for all outdoor chefs. It has a large coated grilling surface with easy clean-up grates. The smoker portion is also wonderful having the labeled thermostat to smoke your food perfectly. We previously owned a smaller model of this one, yet this is constructed so much better. It has sturdy handles, trays, wheels and a ash drawer. Make sure you follow directions to prepare your grill for cooking and you will have many years of cooking enjoyment.

4 Star Review   By RBQ1 on Home Depot - Feb 7, 2012

I would recomend this product to anyone who is looking for a good backyard smoker. The quality is good compared to others in its price range. I was missing some parts but when I called the company they sent them out right-away. Good customer service. Home Depot was great in that they did not charge me shipping. Home Depot has always been a great company to work with.

Nice but needs mods
3 Star Review   By organix on Home Depot - Feb 6, 2012

The lids on the firebox was warped and the legs are off balance. I did however contact Brinkmann and they sent me the parts free of charge. Did have to mod it to make it hold the temp better; I added two more temp gauges to the grill level, made a convection plate/baffle and extended the smokestack to an inch above grill level, also used high temp silicone to seal any leaks. Works like a champ now, wish it worked this well out of the box.

4 Star Review   By shelly on Home Depot - Dec 14, 2011

this smoker is great. my first time smoking a pork shoulder, i accidently bought hickory flavored charcoal insted of just hickory wood and it was really hard to regulate the temperature at a low temp w/ the charcoal because it just got so hot inside. i finally went through one bag of charcoal and went to the store to get some hickory. we smoked all night and the pork turned out great!! next time when smoking, i'll deffinately only use wood. however, you can fit like 30 hamburgers on the grill, and for that, i'll most def us charcoal. i love my new smoker. :) best birthday present ever. i really can't wait to get all those burgers on there. make sure you treat it like it says in the directions as well. it rained on it the next day and it was fine after i dried it off.

A great midlevel offset cooker
5 Star Review   By Beee on Home Depot - Dec 1, 2011

I've turned out some excellent 'que with this smoker and even competed with it. Being a Kansas Citian my friends and family know good BBQ. There are also few modifications you can do to take it to the next level (seal the door with high temp food grade silicone, firebox baffle, charcoal box, firebricks, etc). It's well-made enough that you won't get frustrated and if you're like me it will be the impetuous to a fun (but not necessarily healthy) addiction.

You will be hard pressed to find 962 sq Inches of cast iron cooking space for such an affordable price. Very sturdy construction and easy to assemble, I did it alone in less than 2 hours. Holds great heat. Only down is that I have not been able to find a cover to fit it.

Overall, a great grill and smoker
4 Star Review   By INgriller on Home Depot - Oct 16, 2011

Very good grill and smoker. Very happy with assembly. Grates are heavy and main construction is very sturdy. The wheels are made of steel, which is a great plus. You do not have to worry about plastic wheels cracking or breaking. My one disappointment is that the metal on the main body/barrel is not as heavy/thick as my older model. The doors on the smoker and grill are thicker material than the body portion. Other than that, I am very happy with the construction of the grill.

Excellent beginner smoker
4 Star Review   By druid on Home Depot - Oct 13, 2011

This is my first excursion into true BBQ. I would consider myself a grill master, so this was the next step. So it leaks around the doors & such, but it did a fantastic job. First up was a bone-in ham, smoked it about 5 hours. Everyone went nuts over it. Second I did 3 racks of beef ribs, smoked for 7 hours. Unbelievably tender and flavorful, going to finish them off at lunch today. For the price I think this is a fantastic product.

good big capasity food smoker at a small price
4 Star Review   By bbqman1 on Home Depot - Oct 11, 2011

The assembly only took me about 2 hrs. I modified the assembly by standing it on the smoke stack end and after I stood it on its legs I put the stack , pull bar and small parts on. This smoker can hold a masive amount of food and can maintain the smoking temp of about 200 f with the air vents just barely open. The fire box is the weak point that would burn less fuel if more air tight.

Sturdy and Well Built
4 Star Review   By luvmooney on Home Depot - Oct 4, 2011

As mentioned in several of the older reviews, there was a bolt or two missing (my husband has enough spare bolts and screws so didn't have to call customer support to have them sent). It was easy to assemble and he did so by himself. His only complaint was how vague and ambiguous the operating instructions are . They overstate obvious issues while leaving necessary ones up to the consumer to figure out. Appearance-wise and quality of product seem to be 5 star. We haven't cooked on it yet, but did go through the "seasoning" process and it did well but required almost an entire bag of charcoal as well as a lot of wood to get it to heat up as it should.

Used this bad boy a couple of times, and I have to say no complaints from me of my family! Gotta make a couple of adjustments to seal the gaps around the lids, but that's my only little irksome problem. This grill/smoker was a bit of a pain to get delivered as none of my local home depots had it in stock, also assembling it was not all that simple. However, once assembled and delivered this was exactly what i was looking for. It works perfectly as both grill and smoker, easy to maintain temperatures and capacaty to cook enough to feed a small army.

5 Star Review   By KirkS on Home Depot - Sep 13, 2011

I ordered the smoker via the HD web site, taking advantage of the free delivery. Smoker arrived 9 days later. Easy to assemble, took me 2 1/2 hours and one iced tea. The parts were all included and in good shape, no dents or dings. I've since smoked several chickens figuring out the smoker and it's quirks. Good heavy metal, sturdy design, looks great. I'm very happy with my purchase and look forward to many great meals from my Brinkman Trailmaster LE.

Great Smoker for the Money
5 Star Review   By trowe99 on Home Depot - Sep 9, 2011

When I decided to move up from my little upright gas smoker, I did a great deal of research on the various BBQ forums, and I looked at a LOT of smokers. This unit is a very good compromise falling nicely in between the cheap tin smokers sold everywhere for $150-$199, and the heavier-duty ones that will set you back $500-$800 and up. It is true that Brinkmann did cheat a bit to make it appear even more solid than it is. You have to look very closely to realize that the metal on the doors is perhaps twice as thick as the metal used for the rest of the body. Still, if you’re willing to overlook that bit of blatant deception, this is certainly a very sturdy and substantial smoker for the money. If you don’t opt for the free shipping, the Trailmaster is boxed compactly enough to easily fit into a compact SUV. You will need two people to carry the box, however. I was able to assemble it by myself, but I can tell you it would be have been MUCH easier with a helper. I used an inexpensive high-heat caulk to seal every screw and connection, resulting in zero leaks of smoke (and heat). After only a few uses, I’ve been able to maintain even temps and excellent smoke with this unit. I’ve found a couple of cheap thermometers on the grate to be much more helpful than the one that comes mounted in the lid. You will need a very generous amount of charcoal and/or wood in the firebox if you want to keep the smoking chamber up in the 375 degree range or more, but it can certainly hold enough to do so, and I don’t expect to need that much heat very often, if ever. Finally, don’t buy the cover they specify for this unit. I heard too many say that it was too small and flimsy, so I picked up the Brinkmann 82” Grill Cover # 812-9097-S off the shelf and it’s perfect.

Excellent unit for the price!
5 Star Review   By hocky37 on Home Depot - Sep 8, 2011

Well it was a little work putting it together without a second person, the directions and general fitting of the parts made it relatively easy. Followed the directions for curing it one day, the next a dry run to get the hang of controlling a temperature between 180-220 degree's, and the third day smoking 4 slabs of pork ribs for a company picnic. After 6 hours the ribs looked like a magazine picture and tasted fantastic. Used a charcoal chimney about half full with natural charcoal brickettes to start things going and added brickettes into the firebox as needed to keep the temperature close. The smoker worked to perfection. It takes getting used to as you have to watch the temp and vents about every 1/2 hour. I spent a couple of weeks looking at similar units and I am very pleased. Hope to do a lot more smoking/grilling the rest of the summer and fall!!

Thinner metal on critical parts, Not all heavy duty, But works well
3 Star Review   By BBQBobalew on Home Depot - Sep 7, 2011

I bought this, exopecting a Much heavier duty model from the $149-$199 model. Some of the parts like the doors, are heavy guage, but the body isn't as heavy as I'd expected, shortening the life, unfortunately. The cosmetic parts are heavy duty, NOT the Main wear compontents, such as the Firebox Clamshell, or the Barrell bottom, Parts that would be subject to High heat and Fire rust, This unit still, has heavier guage metal than the cheaper model, which , in my opinion is not even worth considering. Pros: Temperature is easily and quickly adjustable.using the Firebox & Stack valves. Heat & Fire longevity is good Use of Mesquite is possible, and Firebox heat can exceed 800 Degrees. Does get good slow, Hot smoke results, for the money paid. Stance & stability are good. Heat seal is good, Minimal leaks in design. Cons: Assembly of Legs is a Difficult task, requires thinking in 4 dimensions. Fit & tolerances of components is Marginal, But assembly possible, Judging from my recieved product example. An extension of the Intake of the Smoke stack, internally, is required in order to achieve full chamber temperature, Other wise Place your Subject meat higher in the chamber, to get the temperature indicated on the Door Temp Guage. The bottom shelf is a bear to install & secure, even when following the instructions. Expect a max 5 year life, before it rusts out.

Great Birthday present to myself!!
5 Star Review   By ILuv2smoke on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

I had been looking at smokers. I thought about building one myself. A friend had a smaller version of this Brinkmann smoker and liked it a lot. In being hungry for a beef brisket, I decided to look for a smoker one day and found this one. What a GREAT deal. There is no way that I could have built one this nice for the money that I spent. It was shipped motor freight (free shipping) and the company used was terrific. Assembly was easy and the instructions where good. The quality is very good. It is a terrific asset to my back yard and I am getting better at using it. The one gripe that I have is that Brinkmann has not yet designed and marketed a cover for it. So, I guess that I am going to have to build a little shed to house it and have a smoke house in my back yard. If this deal still exists I would highly consider it. It is a large piece of equipment and could cook a bunch of meat. Guess I will have to have a large party to push it's capacity.

High quality and very functional
5 Star Review   By Richard on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

A great value with many functions. Great for ribs, brisket, steaks, chicken..... I look forward to using it every weekend, maybe even thanksgiving. I just tell myself that smoked/grilled BBQ'd meat is good for you. You may need a hand getting this thing home and set up. The truck driver said that it weighed about 200lbs. Putting it together was somewhat tricky, but I did it by myself in a couple of hours. The paint will scratch off when you move the cooking grates around and water will get in when it rains. So to keep it from rusting, I keep it covered and wipe it down with vegetable oil

I bought the Brinkman Trailmaster Grill and Smoker specifically because of its heavy and hearty construction. This unit is really well made and I expect it to last a long time. Great Smoka
5 Star Review   By Glen on Home Depot - Sep 6, 2011

I have some experience with smokers and I find this smoker is quite nice. Heavy gage steel, good size chamber and very functional. Putting it together was pretty quick and all parts fit well. After the first few fires for seasoning, I have cooked several racks of ribs, shoulders and butts, all coming out with that great smoke ring, taste and tender. I had 50 of my closest friends over for a BBQ, 46lbs of Turkey, Sausage, Ribs and Shoulders - they left very full and happy. Key for BBQ is about consistent temps. With a few tweaks, this smoker can keep a 200 deg smoke for hours. Out of the box, the smoker needs some tweaks, check out youTube and there are many videos on enhancements you can make. All these are well worth it as it makes the smoker tight and give a very consistent temp

Worth every penny and then some
5 Star Review   By JJ08GTS on Home Depot - Sep 4, 2011

I'm extremely impressed with the quality of this product. First, a few negative points: When the instructions say to have a friend help you with the assembly of this grill, it's not kidding. It's not impossible to put it together yourself, as I can testify, but there are a few steps here and there where having an extra pair of hands would help greatly, and cut down assembly time to easily half. Second, there are more than five mentions in the instruction manual of purchasing a cover from Brinkmann's website to "protect your purchase." Personally for the cost I think the cover should be included, but it's a minimal extra expense to protect your investment if you're going to be keeping the grill outside in the elements. Third, be ready for when it's shipped to you. It's going to be delivered via freight on an 18-wheeler because it's shipping weight is a whopping 190 pounds - so have a few buddies or a dolly ready to get it off the truck. Now for the positive: The materials and quality of this product make it seem like this will last for many years, and most definintely you'll get your money's worth out of it. My original turn-off for this smoker was the price, but now that I have it, it's proved its value. I've used propane smokers, electric smokers, vertical charcoal smokers (pretty much everything under the sun), but there's something about this type of set-up that produces a much superior smoke, regardless of what type of wood youre using. Whereas with all of my old smokers it'd mainly just put out heat and sometimes some smoke, this sucker will smoke like crazy the entire time. It can just about make smoking a foolproof process if you follow the simple instructions that come with the manual. Hurry up and get yours, as it is a limited edition, although I'm sure they're going to be making many of these. It comes complete with a serial number plate that is riveted to the lid, but there's a zero in front of my number, meaning they could still make many more.

Awsome Smoker LG Cooking Area
5 Star Review   By LoveCookin on Home Depot - Sep 1, 2011

The smoker works great & was perfect for summertime cooking. The only thing I would highly recommend is that you purchase a cover as soon as you buy it or it will rust if you leave it out in the weather. Here is the catch: we still have not found the correct one so we had it custom made. Good Luck. The drip catcher is not big enough either. An awsome meal will be had by all.

Great product for the price point
5 Star Review   By jimphoto1 on Home Depot - Aug 31, 2011

Arrived in excellent condition - no missing parts - assembly took 1½ hours without help. First use after break-in was brined chicken thighs with Jeff's naked rib rub. They came out great (2 hours @ 250 with apple wood chunks). 3-2-1 ribs are next, after I caulk the leaks (door openings mainly). With some tweaking I should be able to maintain ideal 225 temp in the cooking chamber without constant adjusting. One criticism for Brinkmann - instructions urge use of a cover to prevent accelerated rusting. When I called to order a cover, I was told there was a 1-2 month wait until a cover for this model is available. I guess a tarp will have to do until the cover is in stock. After the ribs, I hope to tackle Pork Butts, then the ever elusive perfect Brisket - I'm salivating profusely.......................

Great smoker
5 Star Review   By HBT731 on Home Depot - Aug 31, 2011

Good and heavy duty. Lot more "stout" than most smokers purchased in big box stores. Box weighed 195.6lbs. Holds temps well. I added 2 temp gauges at grate level. Lid temp gauge is about 20 degrees hotter. Tight fit. very minimal smoke leak from firebox and none from the cooking chamber. I used high temp rtv silicone to seal all seams and around all bolt and screw heads...along with threadlocker. This thing is a tank and I love it.

Great value for the money!
5 Star Review   Home Depot

This smoker seals tight enough to allow very good temperature control. I use wood chips soaked in water for smoke and charcoal for heat. This smoker uses less that one 20 pound bag of charcoal for 8 hours of smoking at 225 degrees. Placement of the wheels allows for even weight distribution and can I move this around easly with one hand. I am from Kansas City, MO, where BBQ rules and I love this smoker.

Good quality materials. Easy to assemble.
5 Star Review   By GreeneBean on Home Depot - Aug 12, 2011

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this smoker. It was easy to assemble and although the directions advised having a second person help, I was still able to do the work myself. I cured the smoker early in the morning and had 3 racks of baby backs done in time for an evening barbeque. There was a small amount of leakage from the base of the smokestack but I think a little food-safe sealant should take care of that. This is my first smoker with an offset firebox and besides being excited about the amount of food I can smoke at one time, this baby's just so good looking my neighbors are all green with envy!

Good smoker for the money!
4 Star Review   By Broke on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2011

I tried to cure the smoker but the temperature gauge didn't work. I contacted Brinkmann to get a new one, but Binkmann Temperature Gauge was out of stock and was going to take 6 to 8 weeks to get a new gauge. Home Depot came through and gave me another gauge from one of the smokers in the store. The smoker is pretty good. Works better with just wood to maintain temp control.

This is a great smoker/grill at a very good price.
5 Star Review   By Streamer on Home Depot - Aug 6, 2011

The smoker is made with heavier grade steel. It takes two people to assemble, and assembly time is 2.5 to 3 hours. I like having the ability to cook with either direct or indirect heat. The fire box comes with cooking grills. The grills for both the fire box and smoking chamber are heavy gauge, porcelain coated steel. I used the smoking grill to BBQ some steaks with the coals in the fire box. It held the temperature well, and the steaks came out perfect. This was my first attempt at grilling with indirect heat, and I was very pleased. I am very happy with this smoker, and it should last me quite a while.

Excellent value
5 Star Review   By Kcottone on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2011

I love my new smoker. I have a brisket and ribs on it as I type this. This is built heavy duty and will last a long time. Temps seem easy to maintain. For the price you can't go wrong.

I have become a fan of this smoker.
5 Star Review   By Gail on Home Depot - Jul 23, 2011

It is easy to control the temperature, it's heavier than most outside cookers, and it's made to access easily for clean up and usage. Way to go Brinkmann.

Smoker is well built with heavy gauge steel as advertised.
5 Star Review   By Charles on Home Depot - Jul 23, 2011

This is a good smoker that should last years given its construction. I have only cooked on it once, but I am satisfied with its ability to hold a tempature and as well as its may other features.

Great Product
5 Star Review   By Rick on Home Depot - Jul 18, 2011

I recived the Brinkmann Trailmaster really fast went together really simple. Make sure you check for all bolts and screws brinkmann shorted me a few. I seasoned this grill the 1st day I got it and the next day smoked 2 porkbutts and 3 slabs of spare ribs all at once. Make sure you get a thermostat for inside this grill cause the one that comes with the grill is easly 50 to 100 degrees off. Holds smoke really well.

very sturdy construction
4 Star Review   By mistermac2000 on Home Depot - Jul 11, 2011

I assembled my Trailmaster Grill and Smoker yesterday. The product was well packaged, all parts were included, and the assembly instructions were easy to follow. This is a HEAVY grill, very solid construction. You definitely need a second person to help you move the box, and also during the assembly process. I have not completed the "seasoning" process which takes 3+ hours, and have not cooked on it yet, but I'm confident that this unit will perform well.

Very nice back yard smoker.
4 Star Review   By FastFords on Home Depot - Jul 10, 2011

This smoker is not a professional smoker. It does not have a fire box for a 24-hour wood fire, but does great with charcoal and wood. You just have to keep stoking the fire every few hours for those long smoking sessions. Well built, moderately heavy construction, geared more to BBQ and now-and-then smoking. Great as a BBQ, very nice heat control.

Sturdy Smoker with plenty of room for small crowd.
5 Star Review   By CarolinaSmoker on Home Depot - Jul 9, 2011

Got the unit and used the break-in period to judge how much wood and charcoal to maintain 225 degrees. Made a deflector to direct the smoke under the lower grates and had three 9x13 inch cake pans for drip pans. Made an excellent smoker with limited hot spot as smoke was then distributed all around. Have smoked 7 racks of ribs, 2 butts, 4 chickens and 5 sausages over two sessions, everything came out perfect and was able to maintain heat with a couple of logs every hour. Still tweaking it to make it "Mine", but out of the box, this does a great job, not one of those lightweight ones mostly seen in the stores.

Great!
5 Star Review   By Adavis on Home Depot - Jul 2, 2011

I shopped around mostly forums and decided to go with the Trailmaster. It took me about 4 hours to put together with easy to follow instructions. I also used Fire Resistant caulking between the firebox and cooking chamber and bought a 12 x 12 SS grilling wok for charcoal box. I cooked my first whole chicken (7lbs) between 215 - 230 for 8 hrs. It kept really good temperature by first filling up the wok with unlit coals then dumping about 20 lit coals on top. I then just fed firebox with about 5 - 6 apple wood chunks. Let me tell you my first bird turned out amazing. I will be doing spareribs and salmon over the weekend. Happy smoking!!

Best item for your money.
5 Star Review   By Bimbo on Home Depot - Jun 29, 2011

I am not a impulse buyer. I did my research before i bought this item. You will NOT find a better smoker out there for this low of a price. It is well built. Heavy steel with a large cooking area. Plus FREE shipping you can not go wrong. I have cooked on it several times and am quite happy with it's performance. I have cooked ribs, butts, whole chickens, all turned out great. As with any smoker the more you use it the more you learn about how it cooks. I am a restaurant owner so I know a little about cooking. I assembled it by myself but it would have been easier with help but no one was around. Just follow the instructions. I would highly recommend this smoker.

Very impressive unit. Large and heavy.
5 Star Review   By dchoice1 on Home Depot - Jun 26, 2011

I looked around for many months before I purchased the Trailmaster. This is a heavy unit that should last many years. You will need a helper when assembling. The quality is definitely here. Looking forward to lots of use of this smoker.
