had to return twice
1 Star Review   By MicrowaveTroubles on Home Depot - May 27, 2013

We purchased this product and had it installed. It worked for 30 seconds when the installers were here. When they left, I went to use it and it worked for 3 seconds, made an awful clicking sound and then powered off. We had it replaced with the same model. This time, it worked for about 3 heatings. Then, I put a bag of popcorn in and it heated for 30 seconds and then no more heating. It still sounded like it was on, but nothing was happening inside. We returned and will get a different brand. It was not a power issue with our electric outlet as was suggested to us by the people that came to remove and return the microwave.

Good Machine, Good Step Up!
4 Star Review   By John on Home Depot - May 21, 2013

We replaced a GE OverTheRange that was working, but losing power/emission. Install went fine, instructions and templates worked as expected. Still working out the new menu panel structure; lots of absolutely identical button locations that I am not yet familiar with (more to the point, my wife is struggling with all the many buttons.) I think I may invest in some florescent dots !! (Old eyes, you understand) I did this as a one-person install, and the lift, lean in, hook it on the wall went well. Not recommended, I understand. This model has the square glass tray with the left, right, front, back shuffle. Occasionally think I have some cool spots, but that has not been an obvious event. The only feature I would ask to add to the unit would be Inverter Technology, to offer/regulate lower cooking power. Searched for three years for an OTR product with inverter technology, until my wife put her foot down and insisted we replace the old GE. The Maytag was our best choice in the 2.0 cubic foot products. Our new unit was a good value, is apparently a very good product , and my Home Depot sales professional handled the buying process to my COMPLETE SATISFACTION !!

LOVED it! Untl it stopped heating food
1 Star Review   By sweetps on Home Depot - Mar 30, 2013

After about 18 months the light in the microwave stopped working. After about 40 months the microwaves stopped heating food. This is the second major maytag appliance I have had to replace pre-maturely. My maytag dishwasher stopped working after about 14 months. I am moving to a new brand!

Pluses and minuses
3 Star Review   By Elzbee on Home Depot - Mar 26, 2013

My previous microwave was a Maytag and I was very pleased with it. Thinking I was getting something very similar, I was surprised that it wasn't. The pluses: It has a nice large interior and the tray slides rather than rotates. The cons: The vent fan runs with the microwave and it is very noisy.

Looks nice and works well
5 Star Review   By James on Home Depot - Mar 19, 2013

The microwave looks nice and works well. I have only had it a couple of weeks but it has performed as expected. It is slightly taller than the old microwave which made installation quite difficult and took me a lot of time. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase.

Problems with electronics from day 1
2 Star Review   By BillR on Home Depot - Jan 26, 2013

We have had 3 service calls on this one within the first 2 months of ownership. Before the 3rd visit we were told that we would have to pay for the visit if they couldn't find the problem. We were finally told the problem we were having was an undocumented "feature" where on the minute the turbo mode would kick in and cause a power fluctuation. Now after a year the microwave is now not beeping all the time when it finishes. The fan is extremely loud but comparable to other makes. I will not buy Maytag again.

Stopped working at 25 months
1 Star Review   By KGF1 on Home Depot - Jan 16, 2013

Just paid $138 for a service call to find out it doesn't work (we knew that) and that it would cost almost the price of the microwave to fix it. We bought all new kitchen appliances when we moved into our house a little over 2 years ago and wanted everything matching in the same brand. Will now go a different brand and less expensive.

Great Microwave...a must have if you have large square plates
5 Star Review   By Jamesinseabright on Home Depot - Nov 27, 2012

This microwave is as big as you can get I think, plus the cocking platform is very unique. We have large square pottery plates. Every other micrwave would either constantly thump or nothing not even fit. This platform goes sort of back and forth in very small circles very nice. All power and features that you would expect. Finally I love the look of the Maytag series. We have the dishwasher and personally I think they are extremely sharp looking appliances. PS I had Home Depot install ... well worth the low cost.

Satisfied
4 Star Review   By Johnny on Home Depot - Nov 20, 2012

I bought this because of the power, size, and longevity. My previous microwave was a Maytag of 5 years that would have lasted longer except for misuse on our part. My previous unit was 1100 watts. If I were to do it over again, I might purchase another 1100 watt instead of this 1050 watt, although the difference is probably only noticeable to impatient people like myself. I've had it for 2 weeks, so I can't judge the longevity. Other less important features that I like are the vent and the light. As with all vents, it is loud when turned on high, but it is doing its job so I don't mind. The light has 3 settings (bright/dim/off). I like the over-sized rotating plate. There is also a separate rack to use if needed, although I don't see me needing it.

Good, but not great
4 Star Review   By Jimal on Home Depot - Nov 3, 2012

We bought this microwave to install in the kitchen we were remodeling in a house we recently purchased. This is a really nice looking unit. It feels solid and goes well with the almost matching Maytag stainless stove. There are a couple of annoyances that let it down a little. - The exhaust fan is louder than I thought it would be blowing to outside of the house. Insulating he duct inside the cabinet helped a bit, but it still seems a bit noisy. - The cook time doesn't reset itself when you open the door after it finishes zapping whatever you have in there. I understand it holding the time if you open the door mid-cycle, but for it to sit there at 0:00 and tell you it's done even after you've opened the door seems a bit odd. -It is "only" 1000 Watts. I didn't realize until just now that the unit it replaced, a GE countertop model we had in our apartment, was 1600 Watts. It makes a big difference when doing things like popcorn or boiling water.

I bought this product and within in a month I had to call for a repair 3x and it still doesnt work properly. After heating up a baked that takes forever, then when I try to use the 30 second button it doesnt work, the system gets overheated have to wait a couple of minutes to use and the sensor buttons you have to push so many buttons to use. I am returning it for a GE

Large interior, impressive performance
5 Star Review   By AllieCRNA on Home Depot - Aug 19, 2012

We just finished renovating our kitchen, and this over the range microwave really saves space! The range vent is very effective, the stove lighting is a little uneven, but my kitchen lighting makes up for that. I just made a large casserole in the microwave, and it was perfect! It heats food and defrosts meat evenly- no partially cooked parts or cold spots. The unit is quite heavy, but our contractor installed it.

Good buy, good performance, alll features that one needs
4 Star Review   By Mike on Home Depot - Aug 18, 2012

We had to replace a GE over the range that we had for 14 or so years. This one fit the space (most of these over the range microwaves have the same width and height). It is larger than our previous one; it is deeper by 2 or 3 inches. It cooks fine, and the controls are typical. The price was right making it a good buy. The stainless interior makes cleaning easier that the plastic or painted metal interior of our last unit. My only complaint has to do with the intuitiveness of the buttons. I have rarely had that sense on any but my last microwave. The penalty is a minimum of two or three button presses for simple tasks, but I'm willing to live with that.

It's OK
3 Star Review   By 17handycap on Home Depot - Jul 24, 2012

Install was easy, although you will need an upper cabinet to fasten the unit to. Don't count on using the light for, well, light. It's located in the back of the unit and doesn't illuminate much. OK for a night light. The 4 speed exhaust fan, the reason I bought it, works very well. It has a stainless interior with a shelf, for lack of space, not sure what one would cook with the shelf installed. I would recommend this unit if your looking for a unit with a good exhaust. It's a new install, time will tell.

Works well but not with legacy maytag products
4 Star Review   By microman on Home Depot - Jul 17, 2012

I had a maytag range and a maytag over-the-range micro I bought separately but in the same time frame. Now the new replacement micro could not use the installation hardware from the former model with no advantage to anyone except giving some engineer extra work. So I get extr holes in my cabinet, drywall, etc. OK, when I called they did warn me. Fair enough. When I fired it up, the display is amber glowing LED clock. Both the range and the old micro were teal. They did not warn me, they did not highlight this. But they did tell me that this a was great follow-on for my previous unit. Sure small thing but I really did like having the two clocks for the two maytags sitting in close proximity to be the same color. If they had only told me.

Great when it works!
1 Star Review   By dollarsandsense on Home Depot - Jun 28, 2012

Had this microwave for 2 years working fine, it did not heat as quick and as well as my older Whirpool, but it was fine until...it stopped heating. All other functions were fine. So I hired prof to diagnose it, the magentron and diode went bad, that's a $100 in parts, plus labor. No I would not recommend it, especially that parts are expensive, but labor forget about it....

Great microwave, at any price!
5 Star Review   By TomF on Home Depot - Jun 6, 2012

When our Kenmore Elite failed after 9 years, we looked hard for a micro-hood, over-range replacement with the "back-and-forth" tray action, and this one fit the bill. Turns out that the Wide Glide tray goes from side-to-side AND back-to-front i.e. it has a better range of movement vs. even our old oven. Other nice features, some of which were not clear from the Specs or User Guide: - Exhaust (we left to Recirc) is hidden and straight up from the front-top; thus the oven has a boxier "look" to it but is easy to get used to - Powerful fan; moves alot more air than our old unit - Multi-power; set from 10-100% in 10% increments; magnetron operates continuously afaict - Add 30sec (our old one had Add 60--we like 30 better!) - Hidden sensor measures air temp thus food temp - Time-of-day timers for both vent and light; we set the light to come-on early AM so we can find our way to the coffee maker in the morning! - On a cycle completion, waits for more TIME input in case you want to cook some more i.e. keeps all your cook settings in waiting. Changes to Clock again by itself after a few minutes. - Beeps at you if you've forgotten and left food in the oven! I had a heckuva time installing it (manufactured April 2012 btw, brand-spanking-new) because the underside of our wall cabinets is not flat, so measuring precisely to drill the 3 upper holes was difficult, and the paper template no help. The CARDBOARD template for the back wall could have been paper, and they should have used the Cardboard as a template for the upper holes--they got that backward. And be Carefull with the packaging; it's not obvious that the box top is a template! Finally, the unit is fairly loud, but that's because the fan runs continuously when the oven is cooking. But we'd rather have the fan run vs. having the oven fail prematurely (as our old one did) because the insides were inadequately cooled. With our old unit the fan ran only when the innards got very (very) hot. But this is one cool microwave; we're very happy. And less money than we expected to pay. Great delivery service from Home Depot too, including haul-away of the old micro. Thanks HD!

This product has multiple features
4 Star Review   By Andy on Home Depot - Sep 7, 2011

Product can be difficult to install, read instructions thoroughly. Make sure you understand the template and that cabinets have been measured and marked correctly. Can be a little in depth if you are remodeling, ie...outlet installation, cabinets may need a lot of work (call an expert). Overall very pleased with product, saves a lot of space.

Overpriced, over hyped, underperforming
1 Star Review   By TLJ43 on Home Depot - Sep 7, 2011

Extremly loud fan, far too loud for its limited function. Microwave is not powerful as wattage suggests, this machine is on par with 800 watt microwave. 3:45 to hear a cup of water for coffee. Bulky size for only average inside dimensions. No convenient quick keys or pre-programmed minute buttons. Our old microwave, hit 2 and instantly microwave starts for 2 minutes, this new microwave, hit two, then if you want any action, hit zero, twice, then start, only to see the underperforming microwave make butter room temperature.,

A Very Solid Value
5 Star Review   By ShineBaby on Home Depot - May 14, 2011

The unit replaced a GE that died 10 years from it's build date. Not bad, not great... The GE unit REQUIRED that the date and time be programmed into it every time there was a power outage which is several times a year where I live. This "feature" alone made it a PITA. It also leaked RF so bad you could feel it and intuitively scurried off to a far corner of the house, which was not my imagination as It caused a great deal of static if you were on a phone call and it was running. Since it is installed over the stove it made it a unfriendly machine to use and have in the house. This Maytag has higher build quality, is much quieter in operation, DOES NOT require programming to run (but still has all those "features" if you want them), has much better RF shielding (as witnessed by it's lack of effect on phone calls), has the nice stainless interior, is intuitive to operate, and heats evenly. Even the chime is pleasant- thought went into every aspect of the design and it shows. At $270 delivered, I could not be happier. This Microwave is our friend. Well Done Maytag! Hopefully it lasts......

Maytag does NOT stand behind their product
1 Star Review   By TLickfelt07 on Home Depot - Jan 7, 2011

3.5 years ago we remodeled our kitchen. We bought matching, brand new Maytag appliances because of their reputation. We chose a top of the line over the range microwave to replace our 10 year old Panasonic counter microwave that still worked just fine. HUGE mistake. The new microwave died last month. While researching what the problem could be, I found that most of these microwaves have the same issue (magnatron). While I understand this was probably be a fluke with an otherwise awesome microwave, I expected more from the company. On the Maytag website, I found a 10 year warranty on the magnatron only, but when I called them to confirm this, lo and behold, our model was NOT covered. So now, not even 4 years later, we are looking at a $250 repair bill and Maytag won't do anything about it. You can bet I'll be replacing it instead of repairing it, and it will NOT be a Maytag.

Great for Me! Great for You?
5 Star Review   By BubbleminTS on Home Depot - Nov 24, 2010

We purchased this microwave to replace our recently deceased, 6.5 year-old Maytag microwave. We, well I (the wife), decided to go with this microwave because of four main reasons: 1) It had more cubic space than our former microwave - 2.0cf; 2) It was the exact same width as our old microwave, so we didn't have to make adjustments for our cabinet; 3) The sale price was in our price range $248; and 4) It could be delivered AND installed in four days versus 10-14 days with other home appliance companies. It was just a coicidence that we chose another Maytag. As for the features of the microwave, I really like that there is a timer on the light! This review does not give enough characters to tell why this is a great feature for my household. Second feature I will mention is a rectangular turntable (not circular) that moves in an elliptical pattern-very neat to watch. The third feature I like is the stainless steel interior. I don't know if it helps with cooking, but it looks good inside the microwave. Final feature I will mention is that there is a "filter change" indicator (like a change oil light in a car). The reason our old microwave broke was we didn't keep up with the maintenance. Now we have a reminder. Please note we chose the installation option from the Home Depot (~$49). I was a little hesitant about this option because the Home Depot hires contractors. However, we got a great installation team: they were on time and they were friendly. They drilled a few too many new holes in my cabinet, but luckily, few will ever see. If you choose the installation option, I would recommend opening your manual/installation packet and allow the installers to use the upper cabinet template. ;) The gist: this microwave fits my needs. I hope it can fit yours.

Great product!
5 Star Review   By jaws79 on Home Depot - Aug 7, 2010

Previously owned an LG and it quit. I think it was the magnetron and it was under warranty. It would cost more to repair than replace. I loved the side to side table and looked for another like it. Did not want to risk same company and checked Consumer Reports which rated this a 'Best Buy'. This not only has side to side table, it also goes in a small circular motion. It allows you to use large dishes and rectangular ones as well. It is stainless steel inside which I didn't know and is easy to operate and clean! I love the option that allows you to change power setting during cooking which I have never seen before. I have not had it long but use a microwave to cook a lot and really love this one! This product costs a lot less than the one I replaced and is so much more. If you want an over the stove microwave, this is the one!
